Oh, and did we mention you can now use a custom PIN for purchases on your phone, instead of leaving your Google Checkout wide open for anyone that picks up your device? If you have kids, or your phone is stolen, this is one awesome feature to have – and really, it makes a lot of sense.
Root access is not required, but you’ll need Unknown Sources enabled in the Settings -> Applications menu to install it.

After screwing around with the new apk for 15 mins, it seems the missing apps problem may be fixed. I am currently holding my breath though...
Edit - immediately after making this post the problem returned. I can stop holding my breath now.

lol you guys think i would really post a virus or something. i found it. if you dont believe its true google android market 3.1.3. and yes the missing apps thing is there still. i use titanium backup. market doctor feature to fix that tho
For some reason this market is showing all apps for me that I've installed from Amazon store as if they need updating. When I yet updating them, it fails but still shows as if needing to be updated. That's annoying.

yea no kidding. if you have titanium backup you can detach those apps from the market so they wont show updating. those are apps from the amazon app store i think, love the +1 feature

+1 is a new google plus feature. if you go into the market and look at an app it will have the option to +1 it which is equivalent to liking a status on facebook. you can +1 websites and links. and all the links you've +1's can be viewed on your google plus

That's what I use. Works for me.
After installing adfree make sure you download and install the hosts then reboot your phone.
I am pretty sure that adfree doesn't work for youtube ads. I don't think there's anything you can do about the ads since they come from youtube directly as opposed to an advertisement service server (which is how it works on most websites and apps).
I'm using AdAway, much better than AdFree : (sorry, can't post links now, just search in Google Play "AdAway")

AdAway does the trick
I installed AdAway a couple days ago and i haven't seen a single ad on my tablet since. It appears to be working a lot better than Adblock Plus for Android.
The youtube apk has no ads if im not mistaken. Only www.youtube.com has them.
By installing any adblocker and useing either FireFox or Google Chrome you can block these ads

Without an ad blocker, the YouTube app will often play video ads before videos.

Why, because you feel you should get content without paying? Ads support the sites you go to. Ads support the apps you use. If you don't like that, don't use up their bandwidth and server resources when you're just leeching content.

Not all apps have a buy option, I would much rather pay a few dollars for an app than have ugly ads taking up real estate on my screen. But since this isn't an option ad blockers it is.

I support developers that have apps that I will use daily. But if there is a game I will probably play once I rather not pay 4 dollars for it.

I couldn't agree more. I for one would much rather pay for an app then have ads. I have no problem compensating a developer for their work if it results in no ads.
Just search... AdFree APK and download it and install. That will take care of your Ads if you are rooted. There are several sites to download the .apk. :good: Works great for me.

If there is an app that you use mostly offline and it shows ads, using No root firewall will stop it from showing ads. If the app needs internet to function (example a browser or something that needs synching) this will not stop ads in that as it simply turns off ads on a per app basis. It is all or nothing for a app. Good for most of the apps.
I have become accustomed to not seeing ads through out the user experience. I was using a flashable ad blocker from the N5 thread but I guess its not 5.0 compatible.. You guys have any suggestions.

Adaway apk has worked on lollipop with my n5 (n6 is being delivered soon). I just wish I could find something for you tube now.
Where is adaway available for download? Yeah I agree I watch a lot of YouTube and I used to have an Xposed module that blocked all add in the app, it was sweet.

Huh? AdAway is working for me. I downloaded it from f-droid. I just ran an Ookla Speedtest and no ads came up
I prefer using https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway ... AdFree is nice but blocks a lot of the Slickdeals links for me, yeah theres whitelisting but Slickdeals has a lot of redirecting links whereas AdAway is less aggressive on that part and gets most of the ads.

There used to be this great xposed module that removed the ad spaces in apps. I really hope that comes to L somehow.

Whitelist redirect.viglink.com on AdAway then reapply the list.
Out of curiosity, can you run an adblocker (like adaway), have it modify the hostfile, then unroot and still have ads blocked? Or do you need to keep root for the changes to remain in effect?

You can unroot after making the change. You would have to re-root to update or modify the hosts file again.
