Why, because you feel you should get content without paying? Ads support the sites you go to. Ads support the apps you use. If you don't like that, don't use up their bandwidth and server resources when you're just leeching content.
I know where you can get a working copy of ad away that's not malware

Use that for your adblocking woes.
Not all apps have a buy option, I would much rather pay a few dollars for an app than have ugly ads taking up real estate on my screen. But since this isn't an option ad blockers it is.

I support developers that have apps that I will use daily. But if there is a game I will probably play once I rather not pay 4 dollars for it.

I couldn't agree more. I for one would much rather pay for an app then have ads. I have no problem compensating a developer for their work if it results in no ads.
Just search... AdFree APK and download it and install. That will take care of your Ads if you are rooted. There are several sites to download the .apk. :good: Works great for me.

Hi guys,
this is my first post in Nexus S section. Wildfire is my previous device.
This is an ADblock file that will block almost all annoying advertisement (except those app made by Chinese from China [it do block, but not all]) in your app and browser as well.
Advantages
Free at all, does not use system service, update is not required.
Attachments
HOST.zip: Updated on June 2011
HOST1.zip: Updated on June 2010 (try this one if the first one doesn't block some of your app ads.)
Instruction:
1. Unzip the file and you will get a file named HOSTS.
2. Copy and paste the HOSTS via root explorer to system/etc.
3. Reboot system, and open an app with advertisement and you will see the advertisement is blocked.
Thanks for viewing.
Please hit a "Thanks" if you like it!
Would this work on sgs miui as well?

This script blocked ads from 21k site. It is like windows, they built in the feature but lack of ad block file.
I checked root tools from market, it doesn't block much of the site. It is paid app..
Adfree use service, this doesnt. If you use task killer, it wont kill.

Oh and to answer your question ... i didn't bother to update my flashable hosts file for the new recovery... cause tbh i don't really care about ads anymore xD (also including laziness)
Oh and i don't think the boot.img has anything to do with the camera recording (not that i know of course)

No one here uses adblock we all use "adfree" which is free and does EVERYTHING.
Personally, I have recently decided to keep the ads. They are the sole reason we have some quality games especially free ones. Its not like we are in abundance with android app developers, if simply having a small ad will keep them going, please support them.
Somebody please get this up and going for the xoom
I was about to side load it....see how that goes.
XOOM
Why bother? It's a POS compared to WordFeud.
I was just going to install this when I noticed the app doesn't install on Xoom. I must say this makes me really disappointed and brings a huge spotlight to splintered status of Android.
That said, I find it hard to blame Google solely. I much rather blame EA. Its not like they couldn't have made the app work on both platforms.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I side-loaded it. It works but not great. It is 1/4 screen and has graphical issues in the unused space. The music sucks too. I haven't gotten to play a game yet but the game does seem to run and the HC3.2 full screen trick will probably handle the screen size issues.

Can you post a link to the APK, I would like to give it a go even though it apparently only partially works. Or send to [email protected] Thanks!

I loaded it on my TB, haven't tried moving it to my Xoom yet...
It is disappointing that this new Free version doesn't support "local" play only... or play against the "computer."
Anyone get the apk out?

That would be warez, unless of course you are asking for the trial version. The trial version does suck a$$ though. See below.

+1 It is pointless for me, i just wanted to grab a quick me vs computer game to try it before i buy it.
There was a free version of scrabble. So that would not be warez. Anyone know where to find the apk in the file system? I can pull it from my TB or tab.

This is getting very annoying, my dock icons gets switched somehow to some V****, like vcast or their "APPS", why are they trying to push down the throat of their consumer crap that nobody wants? It happens like once or twice a day. Want to make a call and "bang" some annoying stuff pops up.
I can't wait for the day the phone gets rooted so i can uninstall all that crap.

I'm used to bloatware, but switching your dock icons is another whole level. Makes you think you are not in control of your phone anymore.
it's called marketing lol...
and sprint is being a good daddy and letting consumers remove MOST of the bloatware, and they're also limiting the number of bloatware
verizon has the most bloatware imo
I wish it was uninstallable. This is where Google needs to step in and remind carriers that Android is supposed to be open. Microsoft allows computer OEMs to send systems loaded with bloatware but all of it will uninstall, Android should be the same way. Instead we'll have to wait for a root.

Source is open, not company standards. Ie you can compile anything you want but man facts and resellers can limit access, hence locked boot loaders and such.

if you download launcher pro you can have it hide all the bloatware from your app drawer

You can do that with the Motorola UI that comes with the D3. You can make your own custom app groups to organize/hide what is installed.

This lol. Seriously, all of the "V****" is in the market so I don't know why they don't make it uninstallable on phones. The most they should do is have the Verizon Apps app uninstallable and allow you to choose which uninstallable apps you want on your phone.

My real main reason for root is being able to block apps and this app works extremely well for that. Used to use it on my note 4 too. It blocks all ads in browsers and across all apps. You get a 30 day free trial but I went ahead and paid the 10 bucks he wants for the app. To me it's totally worth it. Oh and you don't need root to use it which is the best part!

I've used this for awhile, its works very well, with or without root. I purchased the lifetime subscription. I'd give it a 10 out of 10. The picture below shows how well its done without root and its been installed 2 days.
My trial just expired and I think that I'll buy the license. Once the trial expired I could not believe all the adds in apps. I hadn't seen many ads in 10 years until yesterday.
I had a HUGE battery drain with this app installed!
I only got 40min screen on time with this and max 5 hours of battery life.. And it was taking 40-50% of battery consumption..
After uninstall nearly 3-4 hours screen on time and over 10 hours on time.

I've never had that problem, my battery life has been doing very good.
If you are rooted i would highly recommend AdAway instead. Editing the host file and blocking incoming traffic is way more efficient than downloading everything (ads included) and then filtering what to show.
Had this app on my phone for sometime and found out it does nothing until I came to this page, and what I found out is I have installed it, but never started it.
Like the app, but the battery hit for me was too much. :/
I haven't seen any noticeable battery hit. I did notice that anything the uses data gets counted against Adguard battery usage.
I agree also, it's a big battery drain

Does this app just set up a VPN tunnel and filters all traffic on the other side?
If so, than it will drain your battery really really fast.
Plus there is NO guarantee that all your traffic (incl. passwords) is not monitored - classic MitM attack
Trial's expired, in 2 minds whether to pay or not. Pretty sure my battery's taking a bit too but that may be in my head.
If you pay in Romanian money, it just cost 1 or 2 dollars .
