Hello everybody!
I've tried to find a solution, but without success.
Today I tried to install CWM on a french Galaxy S.
I've rooted the phone with z4root and after I started on download mod with adb.
Then with Odin3 I installed this file "Root-XX_OXA_JVK-v2.7-CWM3RFS.tar".
After that the phone rebooted automatically, unfortunately it's rebooting eachtime on the galaxy s logo.
The problem are that I can't boot on download mod or on CWM.
When the phone is off and I plug it on charger, it doesn't charge!
I think my phone is bricked.
Do you think you can help me or it's dead?
Is there a hard reboot procedure or something like that?
Thanks
I have exactly the same problem!
Are you sure you can't enter recovery? Volume up+home+power.

Yes i'm 1000% sure!
I can acess the Download Mode, but Odin/Heimdall does not recognize the USB connection...
Keep Trying
I know this is weird but keep hard resetting it. Try like 20 more times before you give up. Worked for me in the past I know it is weird. I had just flashed a new factory ROM.
I swear i have tried to enter the Recovery 20-30 times!!
It's fine
Hello,
I've bought an USB JIG for my SGS GT i9100 and I've been able to install ICS SLIM using Odin v3 1.7.
Very easy...
I advise this solution..
Thanks for your help.

did u try vol down + home + power button to go to download mode? if it can do that, the problem is just find some driver to make odin recognize your phone. search for "usb driver for samsung galaxy s" in google
then you can bring back your phone to live by downloading any rom you want and flash it via odin
ps. but if you cannot go to download mode, JIG USB with 301 K ohm will help you look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdn5GoRjhn0
Same problem here, I actually didn't see this in my search and made a new thread about it (feel free to delete). My computer had KIES on it so it had the drivers already and it's the same computer I went through the download mode before with so I have the drivers. I tried to reinstall them but still nothing.
I fear I may need to buy out my contract :crying:

I am sure that I am right with this. "If you root, do not use KIES" so you have to uninstall KIES and download separate USB driver.
Then it should see your phone when connect with ODIN
Hope you got your phone back alive soon

Did you checked usb drivers, if not try to connect another samsung android device to your pc first. if another phone connected properly then problem in your phone only.
i suggest check this thread, if you think you completely lost your device - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551

Sorry, I should have been more specific. When I reinstalled the drivers I had actually uninstalled KIES and installed just the drivers.
I do have an update though but still can't get it to boot completely. Late last night I decided to try to get download mode to work one last time before passing out and pressing Vol-, Home and Power actually brought me to the recovery screen for the first time in my phone's life! "F YA!" was the only thing I could think at the time so I first went through and formatted/wiped every option I could find then installed the CM9 that I knew worked and now I get to the alien with the matrix-esque background and it stops there. I plugged it in and left it on that screen all night and that guy was still staring at me this morning. I tried download mode again but my computer still doesn't recognize it.

EDIT:
odin crashed while going back to stock then
my phone will get to download mode buuuuut.. my computer doesnt recognize my phone...
i re-downloaded drivers and the phone is recognized however odin failed the 2 times i got it in dl mode(took about an hour to get it each time)... so i have a jig ordered but with odin not working im not feeling optimistic
nothing seems to happen when its plugged into the wall no battery icon. i reinstalled drivers hoping that would help with no luck.. i just got it back in dl mode after like an hour of it not turning on for me but it doesnt do anything once i get it there.
Get odin3 one click and use it in dl mode. It will brg ur phone back to stock

definately problem of bad USB..either cable or port....try using different USB cable or different computer....Use full odin by iCezar...its with minimum risk....specially very beneficial in cases like yours....
my pc doesnt see my phone. thats the issue i cant use odin. and the only thing my phone will do is glow black or go to download mode, idk if its charging but its getting hard to get it in dl mode, multiple tries atm no luck
i have already tried reinstalling the drivers. what are they called so i can delete them and install again rather then just redownload maybe that will help?

try connecting your phone to pc when odin is already running. See whether it detects. Mine worked this way.

thats not a big deal, just get it in download mode, and flash it with odin.
EDIT: might as well us this post to say what my computer says with usb since i got in in dl mode again...
USB device not recognized
one of the usb devices attached to this computer has
malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.
then something about for assistance in solving this issue click here
this has happened to me acouple times, the first was my fault I pull the usb before odin finished. I could get back into Download mode but Odin would not see the phone and computer would not recognize the phone either, device not recognized.
I tried rebooting, re-installing drivers etc. did not work.
but after an hour or so I finally got it to recognize and odin'd back to stock and back to flashing I was.
this is what I did hope it works for you.
1. disconnect all usb devices
2. un-install captivate drivers
3. reboot computer
4. goto device manager and verify that there is no USB device errors, if there is delete them and reboot again verify again in device manager.
5. install captivate drivers
6. reboot computer
7. start ODIN (DG or iCezars, iCezars is safer)
8. plug USB cable into the computer first (the one that came with the phone not an after market one)
9. hold both up and down volume buttons on the phone
10. plug the usb cable into the phone quickly to get into download mode (if I plugged the phone is slowly ODIN did not recognize the phone no COM, once I did it quick and it picked it up)
11. push START as soon as ODIN shows the COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4 etc (this had to be done quickly too, If i waited ODIN would show the COM but still would not start flashing back to stock)
this worked for me more than once I hope it helps you good luck
oh ok thanks, ill give that a try when i get off of work. i hope my battery doesnt die idk if its charging or not
well no luck even getting back to download mode. i bought a jig so i guess im waiting and trying while i wait.
i keep reading its possible to completely brick if odin fails... did i perma brick?
well a bump of sorts, the jig should come in the mail tomorrow. i miss my phone
jig came in the mail, im working on a few failed odin3 attempts but as i freaked out and started typing this post it seems like a great success. the jig works wonderful

I have not had to do this but I know some others had issues with Odin and had to right click on Odin and run as administrator for it to work. Also the Odin 1 click should work in almost any situation to get you back to stock. The only worry (again never had the problem) is that depending on the build version of the phone you could lose the three button recovery. Look for the Odin that DG posted.

Did you try a jig?
Hi,
yeah.. its over now. My SGS doesnt longer react to USB connectivity, except power charging <3
Finally I have to get a microSD, hm?
cheers
What about downloade-mode?
download mode is workin! But neither download-mode nor cwm with mounted usb drive let my PC recognize it as an SGS.
Tried several slots and computers with different operating systems.
And by the way: my smart phone isnt booting any longer, stucks at kernel splash due to some epic-fail-flashing-moves.
I would check anyway, if odin recognize the phone!
My PC also doesn't recognize my smartphone as an sgs, during this is in downloadmode .
It's not bricked if you're able to get download mode or recovery menu.
Do you have latest SGS drivers installed? Kies installed?
If not, download them or download Kies.
Then try to flash stock JVR firmware to you phone.
Hope those work.
No, Odin does not react.
Like I said: I tried different PCs and set-ups.
But now i think it could be important to mention, that before I have had my bricked phone, my plan was to fix the phone. Because it stucked in panorama mode and showed a lock screen, like it were shown if it were connected to the SGS dock.
I didnt see any chance to deactivate it. Not even the automatic display turn worked to get back to portrait mode.
My result was that my phone got damaged by rain (maybe it got a little wet at a rainy outdoor party). In fact: I dont know what happenend, but at this time i wasnt able to connect it as a mass storage and at this time it stucked in this wierd dock-mode.
Now my clever move: shut down => cwm => format everything => boot => wonder why it doesnt work => short remember of the USB problem => **** => problem solving Plan B
Yeah thats all.

Suggestion:Maybe you can try this !!??
Pls take it as friendly advice
OR you should try to get a Jig and enter Download mode
I didnt know about the thread you just linked, thanks for the really friendly advice !
But seriously, this is nice to know and he can have my device if theres no hope, but i wont give it up this early.
Just reinstalled KIES but didnt change anything. Any clues ?
I had the same problem with my phone where basically Windows 7 refused to detect the phone (probably the drivers weren't being cleaned out properly when I reinstalled them). I think it maybe worth a shot if you got the time to try Ubuntu with Heimdall and just for kicks try it with a different USB cable if you haven't done so already.
dude try to uninstall the DRIVERS for the phone(usually found below KIES uninstall) and then install KIES again
Hope this helps
good luck
I gave it back to the store and they repaired it. Fortunately without any costs
Even my internal storage card hasnt been touched. My SGS is now stock 2.3.3 jvi

I need help connecting to Odin
I have two I9000M's
one is mine and the others is my wifes.
Mine can connect just fine, but for some reason i can get my wife's phone connected.
Basically what happened is she liked how much faster mine was with Darky's Rom, vs her stock phone.
So I odin flashed darky v10 no problem, and CWM 10.2.2.
Then trying to connect the USB to get her contacts back and such, i cant connect her phone. Odin wouldn't work either.
I have tried with the SD card in an out
SIM in and out
Connect the USB cable after i am in download mode and before.
Any idea why I can not connect her phone but i can mine?

What firmware is installed on your wifes phone?
Maybe you should try to update it with kies and then try connecting to odin again?

Is Download mode (Volume UP + Home + Power) still working?
And, is Recovery mode (Volume DOWN + Home + Power) still working?
If Recovery mode is working, you can try to proceed an emergency recovery of firmware with KIES.
Otherwise, you really have a problem.
Good luck !

If you dont have correct information then you must not reply to anyone here. Recovery mode is volume up+ home+power and download mode is volume down+ home+ power!
hit thankxx if i helped. sent from my mind through telepathy (ya its possible)!
If recovery still works (VolUP+Home+Power) flash a new rom via CWM/external_sd and sort it out, u can use F1's rom.
It is also good to sync contacts via gmail.
I for some reason cant mount my external SD card with CWM
i wish i could have done that.
Any idea how i can mount an external SD card?
My other phone that is working i can play with right now.
Both have a class 10 16GB Kingston card in them.
Was in the area or the repair center today so i dropped it off stating i cant get any data over USB.
Will report back if in fact i did have a hardware issue.
Thanks for the ideas though

i Have had the problem of not being able to connect to odin before , all what i had to do was Reboot my phone a couple of times , check USB debugging from Application > Development > USB debugging
then afterwards open your computers's task manger and KILL every kies related software like Kies AgentTray and stuff
make sure your phone is unplugged before killing kies stuff , then try reconnecting your phone and check odin , if u can't see it try restating it a few times
that's what i did to get odin to see my phone

I accidentally Flashed a vibrant rom on my i9000. When I finally did get it into download mode with the JIG, I flashed back to stock firmware with ODIN and It totally ruined my phone.... The screen went all crazy and it kept rebooting faster than odin could do anything to it.
Just be careful. Im really not sure what happened But its pooched now for sure. JTAG is my only option on that one
if u dont own JIG or u dont know how to use ADB . the other way is
remove battery from phone /sim card / sd card
take the USB connect with ur Laptop or PC ( dont use it with charger it will not work)
connect with ur phone , then u will see the black screen being lil bit lighter
pres the 3 combos button to enter download mode and then flash ur ROM
this always worked for me , i hard bricked 4 times already my phone :/
First of all, I'm sorry if the answer is somewhere, I searched, but I "only" found many threads with suggestions for JIG use... The three stickies of Q&A also don't present related information I believe...
After some stuck situation in odin, I can't boot the phone. I get a yellow triangle, between a phone and a computer icons. Even if I try to charge the Phone, I get that static screen.
There's anything I can do without using JIG? I cannot enter download mode (at least with the traditional way), I always get that screen. As fair as I know, the phone is still 2.1 with official firmware (i was trying to apple the 2.3.6)

The problem is, I cant get out of the black screen of death.. in fact, I'm not sure if this model/version can enter download mode through combo keys, yesterday when the phone was borrowed to me, I tried and I couldn't, so I was using adb reboot download shell command - but anyway, the drivers are there.

Yes. I'm wondering if my Google Nexus S drivers didn't not conflicted with the drivers I installed. I don't know.
Well, I'll try with another laptop, if that don't work, is it advisable to use a jig connector from a "trusted" seller? I'm asking because I already saw a comment or two along the about blewed (is this a word?) up phones.
Hey mate had the same issue your gonna have to get a jig as a lot of the i9000's came with corrupted boot loaders so you can't get into download without the jig and the screen your on isn't download mode I know which one your talking about with the phone the triangle and the computer

Do I risk blowing up the phone using JIG?
No the jig basicly makes it so a certain voltage signal is sent to the CPU triggering download mode no risk at all

I tried with another laptop with very well configured drivers, and didn't worked. Still didn't detected by odin. When I tried with another galaxy it works, after entering download mode...
I'm not admired, because before the brick, I was not able to enter the download mode with como keys, I shouldnt be surprised that does not happen now..
Follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
1) Uninstall your drivers, and re-install the ones following the instructions and link above.
2) Pull your battery out for a few mins and then put it back in and go into download mode (power, volume down, home button).
3) Download stock + odin from the link above, and start odin, and connect phone to pc through usb.
Your phone should be detected -- this is where you got stuck right? I'll assume if its detected, the rest you can figure out (plus its in the link above)
Good luck bro!

That would be a good suggestion if could get into download mode Tried everything, including some other solutions that I found around the Web. Looks like the bootloader was corrupted since the beginning, and now that I need it more than ever (because the black screen of death phone-!-pc), I stucked until (hopefully) i get a JIG... Already bought one, have to wait a few days to receive it. Until then, I'm going to use a old nokia.
Jig is only option then install a stock gingerbread that will fix 3 button combos
