Hi.. I recently rooted my N7000 using the instructions on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
How do I install CWM now? I don't have any CWM even though the phone is rooted.
TIA
Which method did you use ? Root only or Root & CWM ?
You can just flash the cwm.zip in stock recovery, Or you can flash a safe kernel with root and CWM already installed, Like speedmod using Odin.

Hi,
I've installed SpeedMod Gingerbread K15H-T11 and found that I'm lost root.
I'm with SH 3.8.
Is in purposed? does this kernel have no root?
Thanks
The kernel has root, but it does not automatically apply it. You need to enter recovery mode and apply root from there.
I tried each and every thing to get full root but everytime I end up with that fu** partial root. Is there anybody who can guide me. I had tried following things till now :
1. Installed Factory kJ1 via pc odin.
2. Got full root access in KJ1 GB rom (tested by pasting a file in system folder)
3. Rebooted in recovery.
4. Installed Red pill Abyss kernel.
5. Did all the three wipes in red pill mode.
6. Installed Kingdroid Rom and s3 mod patch via red pill abyss.
7. Booted up in Rom and noticed a partial root.
8. Then flashed Chainfire 5.6 kernel via pc odin.
9. Used remove triangle apk ( succeded in removing triangle)
10. But still that partial root.
11. Then tried to flash cwm.zip via "update from sdcard" mode in CWM but failed to do so. It says no update file available.
12. Then installed the same file via "Select zip from sd card".
13. Did succeded in installing by this method then tried to install SU installer but CWM hangs at "unmounting system".
14. And guess what that fu**ing partial root.
I have tried many times the same methods but still no benefit.
I upgraded using Mobile Odin and I have full root.
When MO loads files, replace kernel with CF-Root 5.6 or any other safe kernel.
Hope it helps.

Read this post before you continue.
As CF said Beware: update.zip's can trigger the bug if they use "format" commands!
This kernel is safe to restore backups and to perform wipe data and factory reset but do not use it to flash custom roms.

even i did this but i never flashed cf root via pc odin earlier. let me give it a try will tell u. ...
Success
Finally succeded in rooting ICS thanks to robbie hood and his method given in Alliance rom forum.
do i understand that right, that i can root my stock gingerbread by flashing this cwm/philz kernel, without the need to wipe any data?
i just want to flash ultimate rom. it says i need cwm. i don't fully understand why cwm comes together with a kernel and why that kernel gives root on any rom. how to root topic doesn't mention the flashing of just a kernel to get root. i guess i got something wrong here?
baseband XXLA4 - GB 2.3.6
You cannot flash PhilZ kernel on a GB Rom. It wouldn't boot up if you did.

for the Note the kernel and recovery are integrated, each kernel has a corresponding cwm recovery and root features too
so when you want to root a rom you have to flash a suitable kernel which will give it a cwm recovery to flash custom roms from and it will also give root features too.
Phillz kernels root stock ICS Touchwizz roms when flashed from stock recovery. after a complete reboot you can safely wipe from recovery and flash custom roms.
BTW - this thread belongs to the QA forum.

but would let me use cwm to backup and flash another rom?
You can't flash ANYTHING from stock 3e GB recovery. It won't pass signature verification.
(Unlike ICS). You need to root it first, then use an app such as mobile odin to flash a kernel which has CWM recovery.

Edit: to root GB without going through Dr. Ketans long winded process, just download Chainfires exynos app from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35512626 click on it, and select root device

unfort my kernel is not bugged. can i flash a bugged kernel?
i think i understood that i need to use odin to flash on a GB device? if so, i hope i can directly flash ultimate custom rom using odin?
1. Root Gb
2. Install Mobile Odin
3.Flash Cf-Root or Abyss (both are GB with CWM recovery)
4.Boot into recovery, do wipes and flash new ROM.
NOTE: custom roms can't be flashed with Odin.

non rootable room ^^
Use the exnos abuse app to root.
Hey can i flash philz on 2.3.6 (rooted) format and install a JB rom?
Yes
Hi is this a safe kernel on my device or not ,
and please another thing how can I root without CWM.
thnkxxxx in advance
Hi, just flash a philz kernel with PC Odin (I assume you're not already rooted), you'll get root + safe kernel
Flash Philz kernel through stock recovery (copy the zip file to your external sd card). That way it won't raise the flash counter.
Flash Philz kernel zip from recovery is better. Rooted and on safe stock kernel.
I did flash the stock rom: N7000XXLT9_N7000ITVLT3_ITV
Now i have to redo the root, but i do not remember which one Philz i used last year to unlock my n7000, i looked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191 but not i find the version LT9 Philz ... what should I use?
If possible I would like to use Philz because it solves everything with a simple flash from recovery (stock kernel + root + safe recovery)

Thanks!!!
