[Q] Boot loops at random on power on, downgrade doesn't fix - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I've got an Australian vodafone GT-i9000 which i bought that was having issues boot looping on power on. Sometimes it can boot loop for 20 seconds (looping at the Samsung screen, not the S screen) while others it can boot loop for 20 minutes before powering on.
I've tried flashing with ODIN using the 512 pit to numerous stock versions, most recently this : GT_I9000_XWJVP_XXJVQ_VAUJV6_Sbl (stock vodafone AU rom). The flash goes fine, however if I select format with the 512 PIT I can get the following message after the reboot:
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblkop2
Even if this message doesn't come up on flash, The phone keeps boot looping. Once started, the phone seems to work fine detecting internal & SD memory. I want a more permanent fix however, because if I was planning on giving it to a friend and 'leaving the phone boot looping until it starts' is probably too hard for them to understand. Also I'm not sure if there's an issue with the internalSD which is causing the problem, and if it is, it could cause further issues on more harder use.
Anyone had this sort of issue? The phone was flashed with ICS when the guy sent it to me, he said the bootloops started after he upgraded to ICS. I've got a 32gb SD- tried removing before flash and having it in while flash with no success (have seen a guide for installing on external SD for the i9000m- however it looks like you can only do this if the media device has completely failed). It seems to boot every time using a bootloader kernal (cant remember the name, ICE something from memory) into the recovery software- so maybe a busted sector on the internal SD?
Ideas anyone?
Cheers,
Dylan

Maybe try going into cwm wipe internal same card memory, remove external as card, put into download mode and flash with Odin using pit and repetition checked, if you get the devblock error flash this is PDA without repetition checked and without pit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984140

Theres an error message about the CSC but it flicks up so quick i cant see it. It's not in red however- its just in yellow text. I'll see if i can get an error message outta it.

Hmm try flashing the cf root kernel with Odin after the install, don't tick repetition

Bit of a problem with that matey, Kies says the phone does not support firmware updates through KEIS and the rom i've been flashing with KEIS is the full standard rom from Vodafone- includes CSC, PDA and phone files. from memory the PDA file contains the standard bootloader yeah?

Look at this
Take a Firmware with the red SBL ending, thats with bootloader, flash it in download mode via odin and the problem should and must be solved through this !!
btw: i recommend to flash a JW5 version.. please tell us if this worked !

Did you get a look at the error? Or try flashing the cf root kernel?

GT_I9000_XWJVP_XXJVQ_VAUJV6_Sbl is the firmware i'm using, so no good with the boot loader
I'll try a JW5 version as suggested .
Also to the guy above, no luck with getting the error message, i'll give it another flash now and see how it goes.

Flash the stock JL2 firmware with Odin the use super one click to root your phone then flash a new kernel with SGS Kernal flasher from the market... then u will have clockwork recovery then wipe and flash seeArms! Its a great rom but not as fast as darkys
Get the stock firmware from samfirmware.com u can get the .pit file from there to

So the stock JL2 that I have is a .tar and .dll
I have a 512.pit from a beta 2.2 , are they different?
Did I mention boot problems too? Hanging @ Samsung, no splash ani.
I guess the .pit means yes on repartition?
Thanks
Just use the stock firmware and .pit from samfirmware.com and when Odin is open do not tick off repartirion... just put the .pit in it's spot and the tar in th's PDA part and flash

Download a full firmware for your model and locale (with dbdata in it) and flash it with repartition with the pit proposed (samfirmware.com) then, I believe, you will have a full functioning phone. If everything is ok, then flash ... whatever.
It's Alive! - Can't mount /dev/block/stl10 fixed.
Hey All,
Got it all working again.
Repaired: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
the fix: A full firmware (pda/csc/phone/pit) flash w/repartition.
Flashed w/repartition - I9000XXJP2.7p. (the only FULL firmware I had on-hand)
on reboot the system does a media check and was successful in reformatting and mounting the internal SD.
Phone didn't like the ROM and still logo of death, but..
A quick Jig into Download Mode..
Flashed I9000UGJL2_homebinary_add_param.tar with no repartition
(can't remember if I used .pit).
And Success!! my phone is alive and running 2.2
Thanks for the help, and hopefully this thread can help others.
Everyone should build/get a jig

Yes, do this. For repartition to work the .tar has to have dbdata.rfs, otherwise it won't work.
Then flash a speedmod kernel with odin for root/cwm and flash you're favourite custom rom
unlock&root owngrade or speedmod kernel? suggestions?
Forgot to mention that all this started after I got the phone back from Bell service after SD card failure.
I know mod methods changed with the latest firmware, as I had used the update.zip method that is now unavailable.
My phone went in unlocked and rooted
the phone came back re-locked (old code doesn't work? wtf?),
and it was unrooted w/3e recovery
Can the phone unlock code change?
Will downgrading to 2.1 make unlocking easier?
or is unlocking just as simple after a speedmod kernel with odin for root/cwm
Which is better?
downgrade the firmware to 2.1 and root using the old update.zip method or speedmod kernel?
Which kernel? (link please )
cheers

You know what....I've been trying various combinations of CSC/MODEM/PIT and everything to get this phone running again.
All I did was select a FULL UGJL2, and thats IT. NO pit, NO repartition, and it worked
The best way to revive your I9000m is to first flash JPC (a three file ROM) with 512 PIT and repartition ticked. The phone will still be in a boot loop. Then flash the JL2 PDA without repartition or PIT. The best way to go back to stock! Has always worked for me. I9000m's are not the same as other I9000's and do not flash repartition and the PDA in the same flash! Good luck!

SGS Semi-Brick , Help would be appreciated !!!

Hello buddies,
I was using my DarkyModded SGS i9K and all of a sudden my phone's lock screen got freezed and i tried it shutting down but i wont recognize ,then i had removed my battery and rebooted it.Now the problem comes !!
It wont Reboot i.e It's stuck on Galaxy S -powered by Darky ROM screen !
i tried with odin to reflash it back to stock,Reinstall Darkymod, Stock Froyo but no luck!!
but it booted into Stock 2.3.x and was booting very very slow @ 1FPS of sgs animation ,so i accessed the recovery but it was also too slow even it was taking the input after a sec , i wiped it and still no booting up and one more thing my phone displayed once the BSOD logo and now my sgs can go into download mode also but cant reboot after flashing with odin ,ezodin!!
I would be grateful if anybody snapped me out of this crap !
Thankyou!
If you can get into download mode, then flash stock with Odin, 2.2 is a good option, was for me anyway. Hope this helps.
Which odin roms have you tried?

1st of all buy a jig, it will give you download mode and reset the counters. Have you maybe got a corrupt internal sd card ? See when this happened to me I flashed stock via Odin, then I rooted and got clockwork recovery and formated ststem, then a custom rom. Are you seeing recovery and download mode, or are you seeing a pc and triangle with a cross.

Yeah it helped me out, also pit files caused me problems in the past, my advice is get Odin v1.82 and froyo 2.2. Try it without the pit, just use Pda Phone and CSC. If it doesnt work try with the pit. Make sure the files are in correct boxes. Let me know friend

[Q][HELP!!!]How can I bring my phone back to life if it only accesses download mode?

There's a problem that I've came on while downgrading to stock 2.3.3 from MIUI 1.11.11 2.3.7 with CWM. I've wiped partillion chache and dalvik chache, installed rom XWJVH (it went correctly) rebooted, it stuck on booting screen. Restarted into download mode tried to install another kernel (cf-root 3.2 because it worked in past) and got fail in Odin.
Is my phone fully bricked? 'Cuz I can't get into CWM anymore.

Ok, let's try but on other combinations Odin said connecting after starting a process (tried 1.3, 1.7, 1.8 versions to flash 2.3.3 and 2.3.5, none worked) but whar if it will not work? What next, because on recovery it gives "black screen of death" as said in this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Series
But at least download mode works.
P.S. I get modem and code files in jm9 download, which to put in pda? csc?

I am a little bit confused, and you too...
To bring back to life your phone you have flashed jm9, eclaire....ok.
But why have you flashed a CF-root 4.3?
It's for JVS gingerbread rom.
Edit: If your 3 keys combo still works, try to flash a stock 2.3.x
If the problems happen while using MIUI, better you select eclair rom first. Then you can upgrade to GB that have bootloader.
From MIUI directly to gingerbread will have fuzzy screen problem.

Should try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886
You'll have to identify the bad partition and then manualy rebuild the partition table with ADB.
You'll lose up to 3gb of space and stock roms will probably not work anymore without fc's. Cm based roms usually work best after emmc brick revival.

My phone was bricked.
And I use hg42 revival method.
Simply go into download mode.
Use odin pc to flash stock rom (gingerbread preferred).
And....
Choose the pit from hg42, tick repartition.
Flash.
Voila. It is up alrd with a lost of 3gb. But I didn't care since I have ext sd.
PS:
It will be good if u know how to identify the bad block first. So u can choose the correct pit file to do repartition of ur device.
And.... u better charge ur battery first, no matter how r u goin to do it. I m sure u don't want to get worst while flash with odin pc, and ur battery dead.

You have to do it manualy with your brain and your hands.
With ADB you can check each partitions to find the one faultly and then create new one.
you will loose space on mass storage (UMS partition) but your phone will work.
So are you still on stock recovery? After flashing PIT you need to format emmc, data, cache and system before flashing new ROM with Odin. You need custom kernel for that.
Also, did you do factory reset with CWM.zip before you bricked?

its because he has bricked the phone and no access to recovery currently. also Odin (PC/Mobile) is the only way to get back a stock official rom

Is Korean m110s firmware compatible with i9000?

Someone please help me. I want to try Korean firmware because I'm having errors when mounting my SD and also getting boot loops which just displays the i9000 logo and nothing else. Also behind my battery the sticker says i9000gsmh. Someone please help me. I'm trying to fix my phone and it's been like this for almost a week. I can flash back to stock and repartition and all but after an hour or so if I try and reboot it simply boot loops. When I'm in recovery (custom) it says SD card not detected. Please help.

No it's not compatible. Try to flash the correct firmware using Odin. Also use a 512 pit and check re-partition.

You don't have the Korean version. The Korean's version SSN is SEC-SHWM110S(B). Why do you want to flash the Korean version?
Try flashing XXJVU. If it still doesn't work then there is something wrong with your hardware.
Also use Odin 1.83 as this is the last supported version for I9000.
To download XXJVU see this.
