Hi,
I was lucky enough to get my Nexus 7 today as I bought mine from Ebuyer. I've been playing with it for a couple of hours now and have noticed that I get really weak signal strength using my home WiFi. The internet is working a lot faster on my phone (ics) and on my laptop. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a jelly bean issue?
Thanks for any help
My WiFi strength has been very good so far. Have you updated to 4.1.1? I don't know if it affects WiFi, but I updated right away and its been good since

So what was the final result? Did your wifi strength got better?
So far mine seems pretty good.

I updated a few hours ago before I posted. The signal is usable for browsing but YouTube takes ages to load there have been times when i've got no signal at all while my phone can load YouTube videos up fine. I pretty much always have 1 bar of signal,I know that's not the mist accurate indicator, but there's definitely a difference in performance between the nexus and my one x. Maybe i have a dud?
Rumours went around earlier that those models shipped earlier than google play, might have issues with wi-fi or screen problems, but don't take my word for it, it was just a post I saw on this thread.

Have you checked, settings, then wifi, then menu select advanced, then select "best wifi performance". It bumps up the wattage to the WIFI antenna. Its mentions at least on my HTC EVO 4G LTE that it may consume more battery. Hope it helps.
I'm sitting about 20 feet from my router in the same room and I have full bars. I did a bandwidth test and got...
Test Date: Jul 14, 2012 12:53:25 am
Connection Type: Wifi
Server: Vernon Hills, IL
Download: 17073 kbps
Upload: 3080 kbps
Ping: 23 ms
So I guess it's okay here. I'm on 4.1.1

Just walked around the house, no problems. I did lose signal in the driveway though.
Yeah I'm having issues with WiFi also, same problem with YouTube being really slow. Also my WiFi cuts out and I have to turn it off and back on again

Install WiFi analyser from the play store and see what the WiFi signal strength on your router channel is like, also shows other routers near you which may be interfering with yours.
I hope its good my A500 was rather weak.

No issues with wifi so far. However i don't think the chip supports 5 GHz networks as i can only pick up the 2.4 GHz networks.

Hmmm... wifi strength... Yes, hmm, indeed... let me say this...
OMFG it's GREAT!!!
Compared to my Razr Maxx and my Acer Iconia A500, it's amazing. I'm seeing neighbors wifi that I never knew existed. ZERO problems not only anywhere in my house, but anywhere on my property. Probably the best wifi reception I've seen on a mobile device.
anyone also have a prime? if so, how does the 7s range compare?

I have a Acer a500 tablet and let me say the Nexus 7 gets 2x the Wifi strength of that POS. I love the range I am getting its very similar to my Galaxy Nexus.

Just a heads up, I've got a Portenzo Alano case and it's beautiful... BUT.. after noticing some serious buffering on YouTube I ran a speed test using speedtest. net and 2 very unhappy with the results. With the Alano on, I got download speeds of roughly 6000, upload of 4000 and a ping of 98. With the case off my speeds jumps to 11,000, 6000 and a ping of 23. Anyone else experience this?
Update: Seems Ok now, I don't have a clue why.

Pretty sure all sprint versions of the One do this.. I have yet to see one that didn't in areas around - 93dbm, always drops to -100+dbm when the grip is applied in lower left corner.. Although I don't call it a death grip because it actually does not kill the connection like the iPhone 4 did. And when you're in a call it switches to the top antenna so no big deal.

It happens in my area as well and I'm not sure my device is switching to the top antenna because I will drop calls as soon as the signal strength drops.
I never hold my phone in a way that contacts the lower left when in a call. But just to test it I make a call and if I have 3 bars and grip lower left I can see it drop to 1 bar then immediately to 5 bars. I assume it's switching antennas because that's what I read it was suppose to do.

Like the iphones of old, will a skin or case prevent the death grip?

I see it on my 2 week old Black ONE. Thought it was the work-in-progress issue with using cm 10.1, and decided to bare with it by assuming that the Cm 10.1 folks will find a solution. After reading this post and watching the videos, I was stunned to see that this was the actual reason for the low signal and slow data speed... and possibly a few dropped calls? I finally noticed that when the phone is on but laying on table top... it can show 4g signal rather well. But, as soon as I grab it to use in my hand... the 4g data symbol disappears.... signal meter drops to almost nothing... then comes to 1-2 bars at most showing 3g data. I still thought 4g was not rolled out in my area.... But, my wife, who has N2, said she has been noticing it for few months already.
Overall, besides the camera, I was pretty happy with this phone, but I am realizing it has worse signal than my old epic 4g. I am hoping this is a fixable issue for HTC and Sprint... I am contemplating returning to exchange for S4 this weekend, before my return period runs out. demmit.
this has already been discussed somewhere else, may have been the international forum. but like i said in that post, it is nothing extreme. and it is CERTAINLY not a death grip. death grip COMPLETELY kills your active connection, or drops you to 1x. in this video, the signal was already ****ty... dont worry about it, every phone always hovers in the -70 through -98 range... stop worrying about it... just stop. a 10db loss is nothing people...
end of thread please
hmmmm i can't reproduce this in my case....
Having big issues with the Wifi on my phone. I just bought it a week ago, but the wifi is incredibly weak. I have found very little info on issues with the wireless, so I'm inclined to believe that something's wrong with it.
Basically, it works, but at approximately 10-15 feet away, I've got one bar. This is through two walls, but other devices get great signal in this spot. I get absolutely no signal in my bedroom at any time, and while my EVO LTE got one bar, it at least got something. The bedroom is around 30 feet through 3-4 walls, depending on where you stand in the room.
Have you all had good experience with the phone's wifi? Since I haven't read much about wireless issues, I'm assuming I got a lemon.

Forgot to add, I have a Linksys E3200 which is still a pretty high end router. The router is NOT the issue.

Well, I swapped the phone out today, and the new one is working great. As I walked out of the store in the mall, I was playing with the WiFi and saw TONS of networks I didn't see before walking in. The WiFi works great now, even better than my EVO 4g lte.
The 3g signal is reporting that it's higher, but I haven't made enough phone calls to thoroughly test it. The defective phone was dropping calls left and right, but I made 3-4 calls today on the replacement without any drops, so I think the phone was just screwed up all around.
I'm definitely happy, since the S4 demo I used stuttered like crazy, so I would have had to get an iPhone 5 since that's about all Sprint has.

I do not have this problem at all. My WiFi has never dropped. Might be a weak router.

I've just tired it on both my htc ones. didn't encounter any signal drops. are you using 802.11n with 5ghz band? I've heard 5 ghz tends to drop signal easier.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The WiFi antenna is at the top of the device. Your hand will affect the signal if your signal isn't very strong to begin with.
I can hold my hand over top of it all I want with a strong signal, but when I move pretty far away and hold it it does drop bars. There's really nothing you can do about it, except move a little closer.
I'm sure of you held the other devices ontop of there WiFi antenna you could see a drop.

I have noticed it as well, but having had experience with anenna design I think that there is not much you can do with it. The antenna matching always gets distorted by the human body. HTC have designed the antenna matching for the hand holding the phone in portrait. When you use the phone in landscape your body connects to the antenna system differently debalancing the matching (I tested with my friends iphones and samsungs and all of them react similarely some more and some less). So basically you want to be closer to your router or a more powerful one.

I've been aware of this too. It's only noticeable for me though when connected to 5ghz wireless. This is a feature of the frequency - it's unable to penetrate as well as 2.4ghz
If I use case with this problem it improve or not

I hear battery life is excellent... On 3g. Usually using LTE makes the phone take a nose dive on battery life when using it because that is exactly what happened to me with my note 2.
So is anyone using it with LTE? And if yes, what is the battery life like?
I'm seriously considering getting it day 1 but I need to know!
I'm using LTE at the moment. No root, using T-mobile, and my battery life is amazing. I have my bluetooth headset connected to it all day and I can easily go 24 hours without needing to recharge it while streaming music for most of the day and watching videos randomly while browsing the web and light gaming.
I never use wi-fi either.

I'm on T-Mobile LTE in Oregon. No issues here. Definitely the best phone I've had. I dropped it in the toilet last night too (accidentally) and it's still going without issue. I did turn it off and put it in rice overnight. The only thing I could see giving this up for is the G Pro 2.
