Just picked up my N7 and I tried listening to some stuff and I have no sound out of my left channel. Any ideas? I tried two different pairs of headphones. Is there some setting that would mute one channel? Am I going to have to return it already?

have you double checked that the headphone plug is pushed firmly into the slot? due to the design of the headphone plug, if its not firmly in, only one part of the connector will make contact and hence will only be able to output one channel. you need both the top and bottom half of the plug to make contact.
Yea I've pushed it in far enough. Of that, I am sure.

Just checked mine....both work. Return it man.

Yea...I called GS and they said they would put in a special order for another one and call me when it comes in. So I can still play with it for a few days. Thanks for the help...maybe someone else will have this problem too
Someone said this already but I am gonna repeat it again. Make sure you push it in all the way, mine was pretty stiff and made sort of a click sound
Its in all the way I am sure. I bet its just an open connection on the inside. I think the jack is OK...just not hooked up properly. Kinda blows cause I'm not going to get it set up the way I want to since I'm just going to exchange it
Worth trying another set of headphones. I had the same thing when my S3 arrived but by weird coincidence my headphones had bitten the dust at the same time. Unlikely but you never know.

The same headphones work fine in my Evo 3d. And besides I did try another pair too. I tried twisting and wiggling the plug while it was plugged in...no dice. I just hope it won't be too long til my replacement comes in. Maybe I'll call tomorrow and find out when it will be coming in, though I doubt they will be able to tell me anything.

Fair play. Hope you get your replacement soon (Hopefully they keep some back from the sales channel for just such circumstances. ).
Got my replacement today (that was fast!) And the new one has both channels working! Though now I have a squishy left side of the screen ugh. Do I return it again? Was reading the defects thread and some people have had some luck by putting pressure on it as it cools and that seems to fix it...anyone else?

Hi i have a rooted NC running at 1,1.
All is working fine, but i have a problem with movies
All my video is working with stereo 'reverse'
i'm using headphones, and the left sound is at right, and the right sound is at left ...
It s like that on all my videos,
on my computers all is ok with the same headphone.
Do you have the same problem ? is it possible to reverse the stereo sound output on the NC ? using a APP, or maybe in an advanced menu ?
thx
Best regards
Does this problem only appear with the oc'ed kernel?
No idea, i saw this problem yesterday
someone here have the same problem ?
Ayorosknight, eurosa is asking if you're running the stock kernel rooted or if you are running an overclocked kernel. Is your NC running with defaults aside from the root or have you done any other mods to it. That'll help with the troubleshooting.
Oops sorry,
yes i'm using a o/c kernel (kernel-1100mhz-omap3630.zip)
available here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925451
And i'm on Eclair.
thx
now if you could just flash the stock kernel and test your audio that would be helpful

i am running completely stock currently and i have the same issue as well. audio is reversed from what it should be according to the what's happening on screen.
so has anyone else had this issue with the audio channels being reversed? trying to figure out how common it is.
i just finished talking to B&N about getting an exchange, but to say that it's a hassle is an understatement. it started with me going to the store on monday, they told me i had to call the 1-800 number because i bought it online, then one the phone they said i had to go through the whole tech support to try and fix the problem before they would escalate the case to exchange it. i do the whole reset thing and they say if it continues to have issues to call back. well today i finally had time to call back and after 20 minutes of nothing they said that i should go back to the store and tell the customer service person to call their store support line. i flatly told her that if she expected me to put more time into this by driving back out to the store, one in which they had dismissed me already and told me to call the 1-800 line, just to get a properly working device then i would rather her just send me to the returns department so they could issue a rma and i wouldn't even bother with owning this device. sorry, but 4 attempts by the customer to right the problem is too many.
anyway, after talking to the supervisor my new device is on the way. however, if i get another nook color that has the same issue i will just give up on owning one. i'm not going through that nonsense again.
so again, is this a common issue?
Would it really be a deal breaker if the channels are reversed? Why not just switch your earbuds to opposite ears? Otherwise, get a 6-inch 3.5mm extension cord. Cut it, solder back togeher with the channels switched. Ta-Da: poor-man's channel swapper. There are other options...

First off, you do realize that many headsets, earbuds included, are meant to work with the L and R sides placed correctly on the corresponding ear, right? Take a look at your set, if they are anything like the 3 different pair I have then the tiny drivers are angled to deliver sound down the ear canal. Furthermore, with a set of Nike over the ear style sports you don't have a choice as they are made to only fit one way.
Second, why would I go about buying and soldering something to make a new device work like it already supposed to?
Yeah there's optons, which I'll explore if I have to, but don't you think something should work like its supposed to when you buy it?

not trying to take it out on you. i apologize if it came off that way. you stated the obvious solution in switching the earbuds. i merely stated the obvious that they are meant to work a certain way.
also, i'm not rooted.
so i got a replacement nook and it still has the same issue. so frustrating.
So I just got my Bionic today, and I tried to play some music on it. The phone's speaker is fine, but for some reason, when I plug headphones in and start playing music, I will hear a faint high pitched sound in the background. And when I press pause and the music stops, the high pitched sound will still be there for a few seconds, and then no sound.
Does anyone else have this problem? Did I just get a faulty unit? I tried with all the headphones in my house, and the same thing happens.
I'm hearing the same thing when the phone is plugged into the car dock and plugged into my car stereo. It's very faint but it is there. Seems to go away after I start playing music. It's not there when the music stops.
I'm definitely getting the same thing on my over the aux cable in my truck tried other cables too same thing

I've got the same problem here as well. It m to new the thing I can focus on with the headphones in.
Ya this is a huge problem. My friend, who got his phone yesterday, has the same problem.as well. He is going to verizon to see about it, but it looks like to be a design defect.
I notice it, only if i have my headphones plugged in and i'm not playing music....... its not a big deal to me, because why would I have my headphones plugged in with NO music playing??
Its definitely there for me. It sounds like the type of noise that can be induced from a ground loop in the charging circuit from a car. The sound is there for me even when I do not have a charger connected through...
Not to sound crazy, but I get the exact thing happen to my G2X.
Wrong forum yes but I couldn't help but comment on this. I hear that sound when the screen is off. Goes away when screen is on.
Happens on stock and custom ROM.
>> Ya this is a huge problem ...
More of a minor annoyance in my opinion. I barely notice it.

Alrighty, I think it's safe to say that everyone is getting this. We don't really need 5 pages of "I have this too."
I guess we'll have to wait for an update for Moto to address day-one bugs.
Add me to the list of those with this problem.
High pitched whine when listening to headphones(tried multiple headphones) through 3.5mm jack. Goes away ~3 seconds after pause playback. Only hear while playing media. Easiest to detect when media volume turned way down. and/or quiet portion of song.
This thread is being used to track % of phones that have the issue. Take a moment to reply.

I sent them an E-Mail and was told to do a factory reset (which I had already done, but for another reason). I told them I did this and they then said I was the first person to mention this problem and it must be unique to my phone. I then sent them 3 links to various forums with members discussing it, many of whom had also contacted support. I told them it was a very well known problem and I was obviously not the first person to contact them. They ended our conversation by basically saying the phone has a 1 year warranty from Motorola and I may take it back to a Verizon Wireless store at any time and if they can replicate the problem, the phone will be replaced
yesterday i got bluetooh head phones from the verizon store that were 50% off and they sound great. no noise at all. i think that it might have something to do with the wire. maybe the bionic has a faulty ground because alot of people are complaining about noise with headphones.

I use the Motorola S9-HD Bluetooth Stereo headset and it sounds great as always. It must be a problem with the wiring, but I do find it strange how the noise varies in volume a lot and when audio stops the whine stops within 2-3 seconds too. That makes me wonder if perhaps it is a software problem. Oh well who knows, once I start playing music, I can barely notice it, but for video it is a bit annoying. I may take Motorola up on their offer of returning it on their 1 year warranty if in a month or so they quietly fix the problem in the next batch of Bionics Verizon receives. There are a few people who say they don't have the problem, but I think those people are just in the group of people who can't hear sounds that are that highly pitched (like the mosquito ringtone). Perhaps in their mid 30's or older, or just not the best hearing. Anyway, it's hardly worth me returning them for the problem, and like I said, if it is fixed in the next year at any point, I will return and exchange them on Motorola's warranty
So quick dumb question. I bought my Bionic off contract / retail price, anyone know if the 14 days return vzw has only applies to subsidized phones or to full retail price phones as well? (my phone has this problem as well which is why I am wondering if I have till Thursday or longer to return it).

14 day return applies regardless of price paid. Probably the restocking fee too.

The problem lies with the fm receiver. Try using titanium to freeze the FMradioservice 2.3.4. If this does not solve your problem then it is a hardware issue. I have become an avid slacker radio user and this seems to have solved it for me but, I just did it so haven't had time to really test it. Please let me know if this works for you or not. If you are not rooted then there is no solution for you other than to become rooted.

According to a user over on the motorola support forums:
"Freezing FMRadioService does nothing."
Weird thing happened last night.
I was on my pc that has a 5.1 audio setup and out of nowhere i start hearing somebody talking. I'm like wtf? Made sure nothing was playing and got closer to the speakers. Turned the volume up and nothing, turned it all the way down and, bam - i'm hearing somebody's conversation. I think to myself, I must be tripping lol Call the wife up to make sure I'm not mental, and she hears it too, but is not as amused as I am lol
So, turned out it was actually 2 different radio broadcasts. I seemed to be some evangelical stuff, the other a local mexican radio show or something.
Tried it later on in the night and got nothing.
Can somebody explain to me what happened?
I don't know what causes it but I get it in my focus using the bluetooth sync. Perhaps it's something with dolby

You might have a ham radio operators near by, if they transmit strong enough you can pick up their radio signals like that. I have a neighbor that's a ham operator and sometimes I can intercept his signal through my electric guitar when its hooked up to my amp. Its annoying.
lol
If their coiled round something or in a circle that might explain
(edit: The wires this is)
I used to get it a lot from an old synth/keyboard when I lived near a police station. Stuff just picks stuff up.

About a week ago my D4 started to randomly shut off. Opening the keyboard, using Dolphin, or just sitting in my pocket. I am unable to turn it back on without plugging it in to a charger, like it needs a jump or something. Once it fires back up, it says I have plenty of battery. The only other thing I see is when I plug it in but don't turn it on, it says it has 0-5% battery. It is rooted with safestrap and Eclipse installed but I've been running the stock version because some things weren't working quite right in Eclipse. Iv'e seen some posts say it could be a battery problem. Others say to factory reset or SBF. I'm going to give these a try but does anyone else have any ideas? I bought it off ebay a month ago and I'm worried they might not honor the warranty being purchased second hand. Luckily I still hadn't sold my trusty D3, but I dowant to get the D4 back in operation.
I've seen this problem with a few other of my older keyboard phones and it was always a hardware issue. I bet a ribbon has pressure applied to it so that the system briefly doesn't detect a battery...

I figured something like that. Weird thing is every once in a while if I plug it in to the charger it will show 5% battery, then go up to 10% after about 20 minutes, then suddenly shoot up to 100%. The phone would work fine off the charger for about a half hour then die, rinse and repeat. So it is charging but only like 5% then it will show 100%. I'm probably just going to bring it in and hopefully get a replacement.
Well I ended up calling Verizon and they are going to send a replacement, no questions asked. Apparently it doesnt matter if you bought the phone second hand, they will still honor the warranty (or I got just the right CSR). Case closed.
Really? They told me to f* off last time I called about warranty off a phone from cl... lol
I was guessing they were going to tell me to F off as well since most people were saying that's what they do when you try to get a warranty replacement on a second hand phone. It was literally the best experience I've ever had calling any customer service line. Told him my phone wouldn't stay on, he said he was going to talk to an engineer, next thing I know he's asking for my address. Win!
interesting.. will call tomorrow (my earpiece speaker crackles) >_>
Just got to get the right person to answer. My guy actually sounded like he was based in the US, not Kazakhstan. I told the person on the phone my story and that I had already gone to an authorized retailer (which I did) and that my phone wouldnt stay on. Put me on hold for a minute, came back and said were going to get a warranty replacement out. What may have helped is that I had my D3 active on my line and D4 was deactivated, so maybe they couldnt look up the info that would flag it as not from original buyer.

Mine does this too. Not all the time, just enough to irritate me. I've been putting off calling in to get a replacement because I'm worried whatever they send me will have more problems than just a crackling ear piece.

Whoops forgot to update. New phone definitely has less crackle. Old one was very noticeable, new one has little to no crackle. Only thing was it wasn't updated when I got it, had to manually go in and have it update to 219. I don't use the rear speaker very often but I don't remember it having a cracking sound. All in all there are no issues with it
So I got my turbo last week in blue nylon (and i'm loving it) but there's one horrid problem with it, the headphone jack doesn't want to work with some of my headphones. when I plug in my over the ear theres static the left ear, and a pulse of static on the right (kinda like a heartbeat). This occurs on my phone and my brother's, who got it in black. I've narrowed the problem down to the ones with 3 bands on the plug vs 2. Does anyone know what the hell is going on? any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

When I first got my Razr Maxx it did the same thing. I took some caned air with the little straw and blew it out really good and it was fine. Occasionally I had to do it again tho. But be careful I wouldn't stick it too far down inside the jack because sometimes that stuff is pretty powerful. Idk if this will help you but its worth a try.

You should definitely be under warranty. I wouldn't settle for a phone with a broken piece if hardware. Just my two cents
i'll definitely send it in, but I won't have a chance to do so for a couple weeks. So i'll be using bluetooth anyway. thanks for your help btw!
