Hello all,
My issue with this phone has been mentioned here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=384f4daca48e10b1&hl=en
My basic problem is that atleast 4-5 times each and every day the 3G connection suddenly drops out. As the link says, I see the "up arrow" blinking, but no action from the "down arrow" next to the 3G symbol on the top right corner of the phone. At this point, all apps complain about no network connection. About 45-60 seconds later the connectivity is restored automatically, and I can happily do anything on the Internet again.
I've had the phone for 1 week and this happens regardless of location or signal strength. So I've had this problem at work, at home, while driving etc. The dropouts also occur even when the number of bars indicating signal strength is 3 or 4.
These constant dropouts are really infuriating and I'm not sure if it's a network problem or device problem. Has anyone else had this? I'll be very grateful with any suggestions.
Thanks.
same here, I dont know if this caused by my ****ty provider.
I'd like to try new radio but it seems it still has problem with bluetooth
I had this problem too, it was very frustrating. However the new radio 5.08 appears to have solved the issue for me (I don't use BT currently so can't report on that aspect)
Ask a work around, try setting your phone to "WCDMA Only". That improved things for me previously.

I have also had this problem and I am on stock FRF91. It really slows me down when I need to quickly perform a task that's data related.

This is exactly what I'm doing.
The internet oon the phone barely works on 2G, so I lock it on 3G only mode.
Have this problem on stock.
Also drops calls when it goes down to 1 bar (in areas where another phone with the same provider will have 2-3+ bars)
This has been discussed in detail here

Thanks for the replies guys. So if a mod completely gets rid of the problem, that means it's a software issue right? What's this radio 5.08 that solves the problem? Can I apply this chagne without rooting?
I'm in Australia, running stock 2.1-update1 (EPF30).
you could try update to Froyo
it has new radio

Oh, so Froyo will fix this issue? That's great.
I don't mind waiting for Vodafone to release Froyo then. Shouldn't be long now.

Hmm I see. I'll wait and see I suppose.
I'm surprised if it's just a software issue, why it hasn't been released to everyone.
3G and APN
I have froyo it does not solved the problem.
I also have an issue with the APN, I can't change the MCC to 425 from the default, it wont save it, any suggestion?

I tried going though this, but unfortunately it's not obvious to me what I should be doing. I'll include my details here:
Firmware: Android 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.26.0024U_4.04.00.03_2
Build number: EPF30
Could someone please help me out here? Is it possible to upgrade just the radio version somehow?
How do the CM mods manage to get a radio version better than Froyo?
Thanks again.
I have my router using MAC filter and after the latest upgrade I notice that my phone is not connected to my network anymore. I tried to connect again and nothing worked. I went to my router and turned off the MAC filter and the phone connect without any problem. I checked the MAC list and the phone has a new MAC address now.
I did some tests and if I delete the network and restart the phone the MAC change again. If I remove the put the battery. The MAC change again.
Now I cant use the MAC filter in my house anymore.
Anybody with the same problem?
Could you please test in you phones?
looks like the firmware broke my wifi.
Regards,
MAC address changing is caused by ISharing driver(s).

Hi
Like in the title : The wifi in my S+ keeps randomly disconnecting, on various roms (starting from branded play 2.3.4 rom, then on 2.3.5, and now on 2.3.6)
What seems to be the problem ? is it hardware fault ?
I read, in few other threads, that other people, had in some kind of way a similiar problem...
What do You think ? Please SHARE

try to assign staitc ip............it happened in i9003 too
download a root explorer, go to data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and set: update_config to 0 and priority to 1, it doesn't solve the problem but it gets a little better

Here comes super mega answer, which is worth finding Thank You button -
1.) Open dialer and enter *#*#526#*#*
2.) Come back and say that your wifi works without any issues.

i guess he means 528 instead of 526. *#*#528#*#* is the wifi test mode which loads the wifi drivers automatically.

Yeah there are plenty of those codes actually.
for example:
*#*#7780#*#* factory reset
*2767*3855# factory format (everything wiped, also the internal sd card)
*#*#1575#*#* gps test
*#*#1234#*#* pda phone version
*#*#1111#*#* fta sw version
*#0*# lcd test (cool one )
*#*#2664#*#* touchscreen test
they should work on every android device. try google to find more
Thanks mate
So after the tips from Sakindia and BackDaws, when i changed the phones ip to static, and changed the routers DHCP settings, i have no more problem with the wifi connection.
Thanks again guys
I hope, that this thread will be helpfull fo other S+ users

If it is set to static ip and you changed dhcp settings it is only solution for your home network, not anywhere in public, right?

This was exactly the cure for the problem, I can also confirm it. I tried several things, such as exchanging config files between several ROMs, what a waste of time
But I'm still wondering why 2.3.4-2.3.6 can not work with forever leasing time... It's bad.
p.s.: for me no static IP needed for proper work
Thanks for sharing this BackDaws!

It was a 2.3.5 issue also
Now everything runs smooth as hell ;>
My provider uses other provider's network, which causes the "r" show all the time.
I could fix it with spn_conf when I was on Darky ROM, but the fake_home_on -part doesn't work with ICS. Just can change the name (with spn="String")
From my Galaxy (ICS RC4.2)
may be with some custom theme ??? !!!

Hi tiwag,
In Terminal Emulator I'm able to run the command manually successfully.
But I can't seem to find where te create/copy a script to use you roaming hack.
Thanx in advance.
I saw that MVNO hack, too -- thanks, Tiwag. But I never got to using it; I first ended up flashing KF1, trying out those Nexus radios that pwneman found, and somehow those don't show up with R. It's been working this way for me with AOKP since Milestone 4.
Interestingly, I just had a bootloop and no recovery mode, so had to go back to flashing stock and JVZ, then back up to AOKP b32. Before flashing UCKF1, I saw that the "R" was back.
FWIW, I'm also on Bob, the MVNO for Austria's A1, same as Tiwag. Only thing is, I wonder if this combo, Nexus radio and an MVNO, is causing me terrible battery drain; others using the same setup as I am, in the region and I think one other using a different Austrian provider, report having great battery life.
As I've already read, SD 835 phones including this one suffer Wi-Fi drops and disconnects. My particular issue is that even though the device is connected to wifi either speed seems to slow down a lot or internet simply doesn't work, I can tap whatever I want in Chrome and the loading bar below the address bar fills in a millisecond and disappears. Happens on different routers, router configuration reset doesn't help nor does device reset. Was the issue already addressed by any update or should I wait?

It is, however most people complain about disconnects making them restart the phone. In my case wifi is still connected, but it sometimes seems to stop working while still being connected and wifi relaunch fixes the issue.. 145 fw didn't solve it, so I guess we should wait.

I returned mine and ordered the US version to see what's what. Should be present there too but one can hope... don't want to give up on the phone but if I encounter it there too then I'll have to go for another model. I'll report back whatever I'll find.
Have a similar wifi problem using (US) firmware .145. A restart fixes it, but eventually the problem resurfaces again. May wait to update until firmware following .179 is available, as I've read that in some cases .179 makes the problem worse. (?)

I did this. Problem was still present on US phone as some predicted. Returned that phone as well.
I'm using CE1 .145 firmware and it started to do that problem a week ago. I have never experienced that before that time. I have to restart my phone at least twice a day and it appears even I'm not connected to any wifi router.
I'll see when update will come. It's horrible.

I'm not experiencing the Wi-Fi disconnect very often, fortunately, but it makes the problem more difficult to diagnose. Odd that some people experience it regularly, even several times a day.

For me it happened several times in a couple of minutes time. I'm on a college campus though, a lot of wifi hotspots around because of the university's wifi network, I think that made it worse.

Several days ago, my xperia also sufering wifi issues. The wifi is disabled by my device.
I have done so much attempts to solve it until I got this:
Connect the device to the PC and open ADB Fastboot. Then, conduct this codes:
adb shell
settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
That's all. My wifi work again.
I hope that will work on you.
Code:
adb shell
settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
This worked for me. Thank you
