Buzzing sound when playing through speaker - Nexus 7 General

Has anyone else noticed a buzzing sound or poor audio using the speaker? Sounds like a speaker going out. Sounds perfect with headphones on. Even the beep from Google now sounds funny

Yeah, me too. It's going back

Not really noticing any buzzing, but the audio from the speaker is soooo low. I'm exchanging this guy. Already talked to a Google rep and he said I should receive an email this week with the exchange instructions. They'll send me a new one and will pay for my shipment of this one.
By the way, which GB version do you guys have? The rep mentioned audio issues with some of the 16GB units. Just a thought.

[Q] Audio issues- background noise

Has anyone else noticed any issues with a background noise behind the audio? It is most noticeable with headphones, however I can identify it regardless of how i am playing audio. It sounds like a sort of static/buzzing sound, and is really irritating now I've noticed it.

I do have background noises that do sound like some static/buzzing, most noticeable after the ringtone / notificiation playback, for a second. And no, the actual ringtone / soundfiles are just fine, its related to the One.
S/N on Qualcomm DACs is not the best, but this sounds like maybe something different.

Hi I know the solution! Just switch off the NFC!
Settings/more/nfc
And you will be happy :good:

The noise is really quite significant, it makes listening to music over headphones pretty bad below half volume.
NFC was already turned off, but thanks for the advice anyway.

I've noticed the hissing when I use the camera to video something
I'm waiting for a replacement but now wonder if all phones are affected by the problem

I doubt it, this is the only thread describing this problem so far. Return it is... Love the phone but am hating the build quality.

I think it might relate to Enable Beats sound. However, customer service told me HTC is working on this and will fix in SW.
It is the beats audio. Turn it off and the hiss is greatly reduced.
Beats audio seems to make no difference, have a replacement coming tomorrow so will be able to see whether it is a manufacturing fault or not.
I have this problem as well on my HTC One (Black).
It seems to be most noticeable on Youtube videos and games for me, disabling beats audio does seem to reduce the background noise / static but doesn't seem to get rid of it entirely, it also seems to happen no matter what you have the volume set to or if you are using headphones / the speakers.
I couldn't live with it and tried to get it replaced by phones4u but technical support said I would have to take it to a store and compare it with another HTC One, unfortunately no stores near me have any in stock so I am going to return it and wait for some of the kinks / build issues with the phone to be worked out.

Did you end up getting a replacement and does it fix the problem?
Thanks,
Aziki
In my experience from having the One since Friday, I would say it is a software issue rather than the hardware. I do get popping and bad hissing from the speakers at different frequencies, but if I turn off Beats Audio it is reduced drastically, although then you lose the nice bass and depth from the speakers. Hopefully it will be fixed in an update. I mostly notice it on YouTube videos or files with lower quality/bitrate.
Rescheduled my delivery for tomorrow but will update this thread, id be suprised if this is an issue common to all the handsets though as it's pretty unlivable for me and I would have guessed more people would have reported it.

Received the replacement, same issue with the audio. Could be either a software fault or a hardware fault common to the batch? Either way, the replacement I received has some awful build quality issues, gaps and an overhang in the metal. I like the phone but this is getting stupid, may just get an s4...

I was hoping you would come back saying your new phone is perfect and doesn't have the problem. It's weird that no one has come into this thread saying they don't have the problem, although only a handful of people have said they do.
It does seem like a software problem like you and a few other people have mentioned, considering sound is one of the main selling points of this phone you would have thought they wouldn't have shipped it with such an obvious flaw.
I'll be sending my phone back tomorrow and at this rate I'm not sure if I will be getting another one as the sound problem bugged the hell out of me for the short time I used it.
-Aziki
Phoned three and they were really apologetic, sending me a new phone that they will first inspect for build quality issues. I expect the audio issue will persist though. Phoned HTC to see if its a software issue or not (also reported the capacitive button issue) and a manager is going to phone me back at some point today or tomorrow. They have until the s4 release date to give me the phone I paid for or im jumping ship.... Good luck with your replacement .
The hissing is a known issue which only appears on some builds, I personally have no issue so it is hardware
What is the serial number of your device (the first 6 characters)? Would love to be able to track which build exactly has the issue.
Just to clarify, the hissing is most noticeable if you play a track at low volume through headphones. Is made worse with beats enabled, but still occurs without it on.
Serial number is HT339W, so it was made on the 9th March 2013 in Taiwan. No hissing at all

Do your speaker make a popping sound after playing volume?

I got my HTC One today, and something I noticed is that 2 seconds after volume comes out of the speakers it's followed by a popping sound which sounds like the speakers are turning off. It's extremely annoying, and sometimes I hear a popping/clicking from the speaker when I'm not even playing sound.
Are you experiencing this, or is my unit defected? It's EXTREMELY annoying, considering the speakers are facing you, and you can't ignore it as if the sound was coming from the back of the phone.
Please let me know.

I just received my second HTC One today and it has this problem (as did the first), I also get popping sounds while watching videos on youtube.
It also has the same loud hissing coming from the speakers when watching videos on youtube / playing games as my first phone. Considering audio is one of the main features of this phone it's quite disappointing.
I could probably live with the hissing / audio glitches if I didn't have dead pixels as well, oh well, time to get the Galaxy S4 I think.
-Aziki
Had 4 handsets all with this issue. All very different batch numbers. Could be a software issue but equally it might be a hardware issue, which isn't worth risking, especially when I can just get an s4 instead.

Have you tried disabling Beats Audio?
I've noticed a weird cut in / out when it first detects audio and engages Beats.
Probably unrelated...
It's part of the problem, beats makes the issue twice as bad, but it's still present without it.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
It Software not hardware related. This used to happen with the One X when it first released, I think it was fixed though. Try closing all applications and running just YouTube, it normally makes the problem better. Also, if your on the Music app it won't always do it.
I have exactly the same problem
Is every handset having this problem? One of the main selling points of this device is the premium audio quality, right?
I'm having the same issue... Everytime I press the sleep button I hear a pop just a few sec later... Hope it'll be fix with the next software update... It's not a big deal, but now that I noticed that, it bother me everytime I hear it!
I disabled touch sounds, etc in sounds along with beats, and it is much better now

I was told it's something to do with the beats audio amp/chip what ever it's called,

I think it maybe the EQ that the software uses. I remember when I had an AT&T One X someone made an audio mod for it that changed a lot of stuff and one of the versions had this problem but the others didn't so I don't think its a hardware issue.

HTC ONE microphone problems

I bought my ONE from amazon.de and, after 2 months, I cracked the screen:crying: .I called htc and they sent me to the official service in my country(Romania). The guys there replaced my htc one (to my big and pleasant surprise) with a new one.I updated it to 4.2.2, but I got some complaints about my voice not being heard loud enough on this new phone.I don't seem to rememeber to have had this on the original one.....
Is it the mic?Or something to do with the network?Anyone elese having similar problems with the microphone during calls?
P.S. By the way, does anybody know how to enable/disable noise cancelation on this phone?
What I've noticed is that my calls aren't as clear as on my Galaxy S3, not sure if noise cancellation is doing too much, but my calls are definitely more "muffled", in fact I almost always have to use my headset to hear people loud and clear. Loudspeaker mode works fine though
It's probably related to this:

Yes, I know about that, that is why I wanted to buy the phone as quick as possible, probably the first one, which I bought in april, was from the first batches, with that mic in it,and this one is not. But,stil, this doesn't explain the low volume....
I mean,I did a test: I put on a song on my ipad3 in a quiet room at about a quarter of the full volume and opened shazam on my htc one and got at about 1-1,5 meters away from the tablet. To my surprise, the mic recorded the sound and shazam recognized the song!!After this little experiment,my conclusion is that the mic is working ok,but, during the calls something is a little wrong!

But what about your voice,do you have problems making yourself heard to the other person?!

Speaker distortion/resonance and buzzing

Hello,
I picked up my att note 3 on Friday. I believe I have a defective loudspeaker. When at max or near max volume when talking on speaker phone the audio is distorted/resonant similar to a buzzing. I tried removing the back cover which had no affect.
Being as others have modified the android OS to increase volume with success it seems likely to be a defective phone.
Please let me know if any one else hears poor speaker phone audio quality.
I will likely try to swap my phone out for a new one at att.

Maybe yours is normal. As when I listen to folks on speakerphoneI can hardly hear them compared to my S4 and its quiet perhaps they reduced it on my build for this very reason ( cheap speaker ).
I originally thought something was wrong with my device because i kept hearing the audio drop down and raise again when listening to music. But I noticed it never did that with anything else besides the app, Spotify. I decided to try another music app and I cannot replicate the issue. I think it's the Spotify app. Maybe a compatiblity issue with 4.3, not sure. Either way sounds comes out normal except in that app.

Hello Everyone,
I exchanged my phone this past Friday. The new phone may be slightly better than my previous one but it still distorts at full volume when on speakerphone.

Ran some more tests on both my wife's and my unit. If you listen carefully on full volume you can occasionally hear it clip

Mine is pretty bad. I have a hard time hearing people on speakerphone unless it is all the way up, then it is pretty distorted.

It does have a Speaker.

I see so many reviews of Android Wear watches that do not mention the speaker.
It does look like this will have a speaker, may try and buy one.
No speaker means to voice alerts on watch, can not do phone calls.
I'm thinking of getting one too, but only if it has a speaker for calling.
I use it a lot on my Gear 2 and I can't get without.
I have my watch for almost 2 weeks now and I can confirm, that it has a speaker and it can be used for calls.
It is pretty loud for that small size, too.

How's the battery life ?
Can you drop some pictures, especially of the software ? (we've seen a lot of pictures of the device itself already).
I got mine today (replacing original Zenwatch).
Yes, I've heard it make sounds, but haven't figured out yet if I can actually use the speaker/microphone for a call or speaker for listing to audio other than tones. Hints appreciated.
I have been using it to make phone calls when I don't have my headset, this thing sounds clear and very loud. The other end couldn't make the different. That's pretty impressive.

Wish the anti-Android wear reviews smartened up.
A speaker is important for making calls and it will be important if Google ever decides to release Android Wear 2.0
Yet this expert ? reviews never mention the word Speaker and I see mixed reviews.
I can buy one online from Best Buy and guess what .... it says Speaker "No"
However people are actually using it and it does in fact have a speaker.
Thanks for the speaker info. No one else seems to be reporting this info. Can't decide on this or wait for Google watches.
has this got a speaker for calls?
i cant figure it out
Yes it does have speaker and its loud and crisp.
I'm having the smartwatch over 10 days now and work flawlessly.
Best Buy still says no speaker....
Which they fix that it is confusing.

Best Buy does not know what they are talking about.
The Zenwatch 3 has the best speaker in it and when
compared to any other android wear watch it's at least
twice as loud.
It's almost as loud as my S7 Edge cell phone and the
audio in it sounds crisp and clear..
I just bought zenwatch 3 and am using it with my iphone. I dont see the call feature for iphone. Will i get that feature in android wear 2.0?

The zenwatch 3 has an excellent speaker and microphone so you can make
and receive calls on it. You can also play mp3 music files using it's speaker.
There are also 3rd party apps at the playstore which adds audio tones for
notifications, I like audio tones a lot better than the weak vibration when
I get notifications.
("feel the wear" is the very best app for it)
Bit off topic, You can also play mp3 music files using it's speaker.
For me the audio plays on the phone
