screen point descalibrated! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys i am on 4.0.4 open germany, all good and fast! but i have a problem, there is a point on the screen very uncalibrated. if i start drawing from left to righ at the middle of the screen, when i am in the right side i can drawg good, it draws like 5 milimeters far. i triyed with touchscreen tune, it works but not with that point.

It is normal they have done it so for right left handed use. If you go to spen settings and switch to left then those 5mm will move to the left side of the screen. Imba developer made this I guess using offset to switch left-right handed and not to use new axes for the pen.

One side of battery cover doesn't close firmly?

I noticed my Incredible S's back/battery cover isn't firmly attached even after reattaching it to the phone a few times. I can press down a little bit of the left back cover but the right side is okay. Anyone else experiencing this?
I also tried pressing down that side first to secure it when reattaching but it's still the same.
The side I'm talking about is the opposite side of the volume rocker.
Mine fits perfectly, take it back for a replacement
My first IS had this problem
I returned it to have another one, nothing to complaine now with this one
but before making the exchange, check the new one if there is a problem with the battery cover
Well, it's a minor annoyance but I can live with it. It's probably not worth the expense of exchanging it since I bought it internationally online. I just had to make sure I'm not just placing it the wrong way.

Hi,
I THINK I have had a similar issue when trying the first times..
One side, I think the one with the +/- loudness button didn't close perfectly..
I found that it only works when I start fitting the cover at the top first and start pressing on both sides (left and right), slowly moving my fingers downwards and pressing.
I had the same problem next to the SDCard slot, but I swapped it for a new one and its fine

Any DIY fix for this? It's just that my thumb is always on that spot. :l
I've had this as well, it just takes some magic and trickery to get it to fit perfectly. Dont really know how I managed it to fit perfectly again, but I removed it several times and pressed the area I was having trouble with first.
I had this yesterday on the right side. Pushed hard from top/bottom and it wouldn't go in.
I then tried from the side and this worked. Hope this makes sense as its hard to explain.

What do you mean from the side?
There was a slight gap a couple of mm. Looked like the inside teeth type parts weren't quite lining up to allow pressing together. I pushed it side on (the right side edge) and it clicked in.

Hmmm, my problem is on the left side though (when battery cover is facing you), only the middle part of the edge of the battery cover wouldn't close properly. I think this is the part between the two teeth.
Any guide to properly close it back?

Does anybody else find the S.pen of the SGN really bad??.. when it comes to drawing some stuff..? Any remedy for that?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
i don't draw but i do annotate quite a lot, and it feels like the calibration is a bit off. what in particular about it is your concern?
Like, the place where i point the pen and the place where it writes is not the same, the location where it writes is a little bit to the upper left( not precise)... and its also has a latency after writing...
Its not a very big problem for me just a little critic...

I've used five s-pens so far, and two of them were significantly worse than the other three. Good news is that the problem is most likely with the pen itself and not with the Note!
Try getting a different pen (e.g. there is an official Samsung holder that comes with another pen). For the offset problem, try to switch from right to left to right... several times --- sometimes that helps to make the offset more reasonable. Also experiment with the angle of the Note as you write, often that makes a difference too.
Just my two cents...
The reason why it seems a bit of is done on purpose.
You notice this when you change your writing hand in the settings.
When it's set to your right hand, the drawing is slightly left of your pen. With the left hand it's the other way around.
This is done so you can see what you are drawing/writing and your hand is not in the way.
I know it sucks, but Samsung made it this way.

This is true, but some pens have larger offset than the others. I think some of them have sensitive elements inside aligned better. And actually this works rather nicely if the offset is reasonable, at least for me. Takes a bit of practice, but feels quite natural after a while... if you think about it, some offset is appropriate, since there are three surfaces at different depths: the writing surface, the "displaying" surface, and the actual surface which is sensitive to the pen's movements (this one is quite deep, it's behind the screen, not in front of it)...
Try different pens before giving up
Yeah the calibration is not exact to the point. When I'm writing words normally I'm not really affected, only when it comes to drawing in slow motions, the placement is off and it's frustrating for drawing little details.
However, I managed to dig out an old stylus which came with my ancient fujitsu tablet PC and it's calibrated perfectly.
I've noticed that the angle to which I hold the s-pen to the surface makes a difference in percieved accuracy.

It will run without root, kinda, but you'll be getting something like this on the unlock:

With the Fujitsu pen, does it have calibration issues or extra lines if you write on it upside down, like if you were lying on your back? My biggest pet peeve with this phone is that I can only use the pen if I'm sitting upright and holding the pen just so, otherwise calibration is way off and a lot of unintended lines appear.

I've noticed this too. It's most apparent to me when I set my phone on a table, holding the pen by it's very end. Touching the screen with the point and changing the angle of the pen relative to the screen--without moving the tip of the pen;s position at all--you can see the cursor move with the angle of the pen, even though the tip stays in one place.
The best way to fix this, in my mind, is for Wacom to do on this phone what they do for a lot of their tablets--have a little dot show up on the screen when you hover your pen, so you know where you'll be drawing.

This is a damn good idea right here. Someone should forward this to Samsung before they roll out the ICS update.

I see, so its most likely caused by the pen rather than the note itself... ill give the app(touchscreentune) a try..thanks.

Help: Keyboard sliding unevenly and jamming?

Hi, I just got this phone and notice that when trying to slide the screen portion upward with my thumbs to reveal the physical keyboard, if I don't move my thumbs with exact uniform timing, it's very easy for one side or the other to be pushed/twisted unevenly higher and get "jammed" in place, preventing further sliding. I then have to adjust and re-straighten it to enabling smooth sliding again.
This is different from the Droid 2 which slides on straight locked-in-place rails and can't become jammed in this fashion, even if one tried to do it.
Is this normal for the Droid 3/XT860 or did I just get a battered/damaged one?
I'm gonna say damaged as I don't have that issue

Thanks for the reply, it's appreciated. So if you hold yours in landscape position closed, and use only your right thumb to press up from the bottom but near the right edge of the screen (rather than in the center), the whole screen moves and slides smoothly upward along its tracks to reveal the keyboard?
If so then yeah, it sounds like mine has a problem, because if I try to do that it only pushes the right edge up a little bit, and then the whole thing jams in place. I have to press up from the exact middle, or use both thumbs at both edges of the screen simultaneously to get it to slide.
If you could confirm from my description above, then I'll know I need to return mine for sure. Thanks again...

pushing as you describe has some resistance, but i am able to open fully, tried from the left and same thing. I can see that it's sliding slightly crooked if i only push from the side, but definitely no jamming

I'm hardly an expert on lubricants, but my concern with wd40 is that it's somewhat runny and good at penetrating. I would worry about it getting inside the phone. You could try spraying it on a cotton swab and applying like that.

Better to use some kind of grease, you can get tiny little packets of silicone grease at pepboys and autozone. Lithium grease also works well. Also in tiny packets at pepboys.

Touch sensitivity

When my phone is laying flat on a table the touch sensitivity is very poor, at least around the edges. I can't pull down the notification bar and the nav bar is near unresponsive. It almost feels like it's some sort of feature to prevent accidental touches, if you know what I mean. Has anyone else experienced this? There is no issue when holding it normally in my hand.

I just tried it...yeah, it happens on mine as well. I guess it has to do with the curved back no biggie. I normally lay it down on my wallet with Skip inside. So I have never even noticed this
Yeah, not really much of a concern for me either. Just curious if others had experienced it or if anyone knew why it happened. Interesting idea with the skip/wallet setup.

Yes, actually. I have the thick shock protection sold on the Motorola site. I have been meaning to test it without but have been waiting to get a new protector to replace it however. I really don't like this protector and hope the touch sensitivity gets better once it's gone. I have just been lazy in looking for a new one.
I cannot detect any loss in sensitivity when my phone is laying on my desk. I am not using a screen protector at all.

No problems pulling down the notification bar? Also can you try installing the following app and drawing lines from the center of the screen all the way up to the top of the screen? Does the line go all the way up or does it end slightly before the edge of the touchscreen?

Yep noticed this as well. Mainly on the home button. Back and recents seem responsive enough, but if it's laying on my desk or floor, home is almost non-existent. Gets to be pretty frustrating.

No problem with the notification bar at all. I tried it all along the top, it works perfect every time, fast or slow movement makes no difference.
Might try the app later but I just gave it another good test and it performed perfectly, even if I barely touch the screen.
Yeah... Mine is fine too. No screen protector.

It happens every once and a while. I got a otterbox self healing screen protector
Just tried it on mine with no screen protector and I am getting the same as the OP.
It's funny because usually I sit it flat while I am on the couch - must be the soft surface and the curved back which means it works fine, but you're right on the hard table surface it's noticeable.

S pen air command

Hi
Please can you help, is there a way to have air command open on the left side of the screen when you remove the s pen?
Thanks
No, but if you tick "Enable floating icon" in S-pen settings you can move the icon to the left side. It will still open on the right but if you tap off the air command icon on the screen the S-pen icon shows up where you moved it last, i.e. the left hand side...
Haven't found anything more permanent than this and don't know if it would survive a reboot but this is the best available until Samsung see's fit to add the option to change sides...
Don't see them doing this any time soon though as the majority of users are right handed...

I'm right handed and I'd like to have it on the left two, lol! Call me crazy, but I wish the fingerprint scanner was on the opposite side. I hold my phone in my left hand and tap with my right. Most times I open the phone with my right hand since my right index finger naturally hits the sensor. Then I switch hands. I'm trying to train my left index finger to hit the sensor, but it's awkward.

One of the notes had an button to move it. So maybe if you bug samsung enough they will add it in an update.
I write with my left hand, but can hold and use my phone with either hand.
Even use the spen with my right, just cant write with it lol...

Don't know but if you press the button on the S-Pen over either side of the screen it will open the air command on the same side. So, if you click it on the left side of the display you got the air commands in that area. Same on the right. Hope that helps.

I am left handed. You can move it over. The problem is when you first pull out the pen it always on the right side. After you close it it'll move over to the left side. One of the leaves I have about this phone. Lol I wish they made a left handed version and put the pen silo on the left. I'd pay a little extra for that lol. I serious!

When you have it set to aur commands it will always open it up on the right side. When you tap outside it will minimize and go to the side you have it set to. When you have it do nothing it will just have it minimized on the side you have air command at. So you would have to tap it to open it.
I wish it was like the older notes where there was an actual setting where you can pick the side and it would stay that side.
