How much these puppies go for, I think I might upgrade to the n7.
Used, my guess would be $75-$100.
Look on Craigs list in your area for a few days. Pay attention to the prices of the ones that sell and ignore the jerk that wants $250 because he has a case and an extra blahblahblah. In my area we can still get $140 because I guess idiots can't google "refurb nook color".
seems that 110 is about the average price.
is the n7 worth it?
Just depends on what you use it for and if you need the power. It looks like the effort to get JB working on the Nook Color is going well, so I wouldn't be too worried about being completely left behind. I've been playing with my N7 and I love it. I thought about selling the NC, but instead I'm going to re-purpose it to be my media player/GPS/whatever in the car and use my N7 as my daily carry around.
mostly reading, PDFs, web, games.
You have 8 or 16? Okay without the SD slot
NC would be fine for that, except some of the heavy games.
8GB, I don't need the storage at the moment, and if I do down the road I can attach something.
I can get 110 for my nook. So another 90 aint too bad..
Will wait to see JB builds before I bite though

Attach something through the USB? Such as? Possible to hook up an external hdd ?
personally id only pay about $65-$75 for one but i guess if its in good enough condition and has original packaging i could fork out like $100 but i wouldn't pay more than $100 for one

There's both the option to use a micro sd card in the slot for extra storage as well as the option to attach external usb devices through some software tweaks+root such as external hard drives, flash drives, keyboards, mouse's, etc.

Still $160 in retail. I don't like buying things off Craigslist, but you can find them locally for around $100.
I've bought then off of cl and ebay for under a 100. Haven't had any problems.

If anyone is still looking for one, it's being offered as a 'pre-owned' item on cowboom today for $75.
http://www.cowboom.com/
Overstock.com has them for $124 new.

I want to get the best deal on one of these, is Craigslist the place?
Or should I buy new for $250? or are there some going for 200 new?
Retail, you'll find them new for $250. (I haven't seen them go on sale)
There was a deal on B&N's eBay store (that only applied to ebay purchase) for $50 off... making it $200. But that deal has since expired.
After that there is the Craig's List or ebay route to take your chances and buy a used one.
Although I'm sure most people will not have problems, I wouldn't buy a nook over ebay or craigslist and I'd spend the extra $50 for new. That way you have full warranty for one.
That's true. I'm trying to convince my mom to get one but she keeps saying that there will be much better technology in a couple of months...
Never live in the past but always learn from it.
There will be... for 600-800 bucks.
Though the new resistive Coby model looks very interesting for $170.

yeah, but that's like saying you should get a galaxy tab or Xoom over a Nook. For the price there is nothing like it. Sure in a year from now we might see more, but in two years from now, we'll see something twice as good as that, so it's all on when you want to get into the game. I personally bought the nook with the thought that a year or year and a half from now I'm going to upgrade and spend the good money on a good one (if I still want it)
There is always something better coming out tomorrow. You just have to figure out what it is that you want in a tablet. I for one wanted a tablet to mess around with a decent price point that has android on it and i can download some apps and have somehing to easily browse the web. I originally bought a archos 101 which is a very cool product but after a couple of weeks I realized i couldn't stand the viewing angles of it, i mean i could barely stand to look at it in landscape mode and it was unbeariable in portrait mode as it just messe with my eyes. So i got the nook color and the screen is fantastic. I've rooted it and installed my favorite launcher and some simple apps that i enjoy using. Plus the great thing bout the nook color is a lot of people are hacking it and developing roms for it and someday hopefully we will have a nice version of honeycomb to play around with.
This may or may not be of help to the OP, but, there is a $15.00 Gift Card offer available for Referral.
With the Groupon B&N GC, I made a small purchase and along with it a free trial of B&N Membership; also I registered my NOOK COLOR bought from B&N Ebay offer. Not sure, which one triggered it, but I received Email from B&N with the above offer.
So, you may want to check with your friends near you.
Regarding purchase for your Mom: her age, eyesight and nimbleness of her fingers, would be a major consideration to make sure a 7" tablet will suffice. Notwithstanding, these factors for older people, I feel this is the best bargain in its price range.

honestly I wouldnt buy it used.. I was considering buying one on craigslist and decided to go to the store... this is why i wouldnt buy it used..
My first nook.. returned it in less than an hour because it had rippling of the LCD beneath the digitzer.
My second nook, returned and exchanged it 6 days later because the bezel was creaky, volume button would stick on the + and it had horrible light leaking on the bottom right (Almost like a big yellow arc you could see at night no matter what brightness setting it was set to).
Now i am on my third nook color.. This one has dust underneath the digitizer between the LCD, creaks alot too..
Based on my experience i would highly recommend spending the extra bit of money just for the 14 day return\exchange policy coverage.. the quality control on these devices sucks.
I have no troubles, but highly recommend getting one new, just for the peace of mind of replacement if there is a hardware problem.
I think I'll pull the trigger once (hopefully) the B&N-Ebay discount happens again....I was on the fence last time last time it had a $50 discount.....
Mine is just perfect out of the box, not any single problem, love it so much.
Would anyone be able to recommend a reseller that ships to the UK? Or one that's based here preferably.

E Bay NC
Got a $200 one on E Bay from B&N New, tried booting Froyo from SD. For some reason the MicroSD went in between the back cover and Chassis. Since I had to take it apart to extract the card, and probably voided the warantee
I decided to go the auto-nooter route and use the sd for storage. Thr back does seem a little creaky now, but everything works fine. Hate those micro sd's, already lost one, and broke another.

I have a current model Coby, with the resistive screen. I don't like it. I'm use to the touch screen on my OG Droid. Also have a NC and I think it is a good tablet for the price. I couldn't see paying $600 for a tablet, especially if I bricked it from messing around with it.
it is true, the dev community for the NC is so much larger than the Coby community.
Just my 2¢

Thanks; the new Coby (shipping from Amazon soon) adds multitouch and a front camera, so it mimics the iPad2 to a tiny degree. Unfortunately I still don't know any retailers that carry it locally so I could see just how bad the touchscreen is. (I've used Windows Mobile resistive screens, and I think they're fine!)
I have purchased two refurbished Nook Colors from B&N's Ebay site and they have both been perfect. Now my son wants one. There are some other sellers on Ebay selling refurb units. Are these the same as getting them from B&N? Has anyone had problems with any of the refurb units? A seller with the name NextWorth has them right now for $99.
I picked up a 3rd party refurb of the Nook Tablet without any issues. Just make sure you read the posting carefully to see exactly what they are selling you. Also make sure they have a good return policy and you should be ok.

'B&N via Ebay' was selling the 8GB Nook Tablets for $150 a few days ago.
In my opinion that is a better buy than a refurb Nook Color.
You get a dual-core processor plus the std. warranty.
Keep a lookout on SD and you will get lucky soon.
Here's the thread:
http://slickdeals.net/f/4490902-Brand-new-Barnes-noble-nook-tablet-149-FS
I couldn't look at the listing from NextWorth at work. Now that I have seen it, I see that this is seller refurbished. I think I definitely would prefer to get something that is manufacturer refurbished. There are some listings for $126 on Ebay, or I could get one at the local Microcenter for $135 if my son can't wait.
I just saw the post yesterday about the Nook Tablets for $149 and was going to go that route but they are no longer available. Again, it just depends on if he wants to wait longer to see if they become available again. We are going on a trip next month and he wants to have it by then.
I just bought 8 Nook Colors from Cowboom (all 7s) for $99.99 each and put CM7 RC2 on them, but they were for coworkers of my Wife and I. The $149 Tablet deal is where it is at, but these people wanted an Android tablet with an 8gb Micro SDHC and a TPU case for around $120.
Wow, 8 Nook Colors! You must really be spreading the word. I'm assuming you didn't have any problems with any of the ones you got from Cowboom. I had never heard of Cowboom before, it looks like an interesting site and appears to be somehow affiliated with Best Buy. I didn't know what you meant by the all 7's comment, but that appears to be a rating number on their site. Looks like the higher the number the better. I only saw 1 8, but it didn't come with a charger or cable to that would be a deal killer. I might see if my son wants to go this route if no other sales pop up this weekend. The tablet for $149 would be sweet but I am not holding my breath on that one showing up again soon. What are the TPU cases you mentioned? I would love to find a decent case with a multi position stand that does not cover up the speaker. I'm currently just using one of those rubber things that slips on it.

They are $99 again for the "returned" Nook Color on Cowboom
All 8 were fine. I put Mr.g666's CM7 RC2 on all of them, used the free LCD Resolution app to set the DPI to 220, overclocked to 1200mhz, and have had no complaints. So far I have probably put Android on 15+ of these. Everyone my Wife or I have shown it to wants one once they see it. I would look for a condition 7 with the charger. Some came in the original box, some didn't. You get 30 days from Cowboom but I think if you had a problem with it and asked real nice B&N would replace or repair it for you within a year of registering because they rely on you buying books and games (my opinion).
Office Depot has nook tablets for 199 with a 50 dollar visa gift card on sunday.
Picked up the tablet today and the Visa gift card is given in the store. Did not have to mail anything in to get it, but you do have to pay $4.95 to activate the stupid thing. Running CM7 from microSD and it seems to be working pretty well. If I reboot it, it boots into Nook mode. If I shut down, then power on, it boots from the microSD.

I haven't tried anything else besides the CM7 off of uSD. This is my Son's tablet so I'm not playing around with it too much. I still haven't had the confidence to flash CM7 to my Nook Color's eMMC, plus it seems to run perfectly off of the uSD card so I've seen no reason to. As far as the tablet and CM9, I thought I read that hardware acceleration is not working on it yet so not really interested in trying that until development gets further along.

So what do you guys predict for sales figures for this? If Google can make a big announcement out of this on the Play website and actually make a commercial, I say it will be Kindle Fire sales figures.
Google really needs to market the device ... but we'll see! I would hope a lot with that price range.

Agreed. I preordered the 8GB version. My Kindle Fire with CM9 seems fine with just 8GB so I figure I'm "safe".
I'm hesitant without a micro-sd slot...how can you really market it as improved for 3d gaming if you only have enough room for a couple of really big games after music and videos, etc?
Now, if it has support for USB OTG then I'll be good...thumb drive and a little velcro and I'm set.

Why is that?
For me, its not really a big deal, I don't put 1000 apps and 10,000 movies on my tablet at time. I usually have 50-100 apps and about 5-6 movies on it at a time. If you aren't using it, why have it on there?
im also hesitant without an sd card, but i figured you can always use cloud storage to save things (drive, dropbox, etc). thats why i also skipped on the galaxy nexus, oh well. im still ordering one.x)
I said it in the other thread. There are wireless drives you can use with this. I personally have the Kingston widrive (32gb) & the airstash (any SD card). There is also a Seagate 500gb HDD that is wireless that should work.

Just wondered how many went with the 8gb and how many went with the 16gb
I went with the 8gb because:
1) That $199 price is so damn sexy
2) I don't clutter up my electronics w/ excess rarely used music & movies
3) Dropbox / Google Drive / Skydrive / Box.net cloud storage.
I'm getting more and more into using the cloud. Didn't seem worth it to spend an extra $50.
16GB. 8GB and i'ts like i have my little ipod touch again.
8 gigs. Nothing to put on there... a few pdfs of school books and everything else is on cloud. I couldn't justify putting anything else on. lol
Don't forget that 8/16 GB is an overall flash storage capacity.
Judging by my Nook devices there will be about 5/13 GB available for user.
8gb
I went with the 8gb since I am getting it as kidtainment system for my toddlers apps, I figure even with the all those apps I will have plenty of room for some "lower quality" videos for him as well. Other uses will include the occasional eBook or magazine as well as for use as an xbmc remote and for the occasional browsing etc. Point being actual media storage is not a concern, and though a microSD slot would have been nice the trend seems to be away from it.

We pay a lot in tax and just generally get price gorged in the UK compared to the US.
Having said that, £159 to £199 is actually a pretty good price for a device with this spec in the UK . Got my order in already...
I'm so happy, I have just ordered the 16gb one today with my spare money from my 18th birthday (today ). Also, today I have just gone out and bought the galaxy s3 international with most of my birthday money (and money I have saved up the last year) I can't believe how cheap it is, I know that I will need the 16gb version. Wow, I can't believe what a good day this has been, the galaxy s3 and the nexus 7 I just can't wait for the amazing development to start on this tab, seen as how it is a nexus
Spare money from your birthday? Lucky, I've not had this much with all birthdays combined!
I'd go for 16gb.

Well, as I saw in checkout, the tax is £34 so if you subtract and convert £ to $, you will get $255. And price for 16GB in USA is $249 without tax. So I would say the price is big surprise... At least I was nicely surprised....
I preordered the 8gb at 4:30 this morning but I am debating weather I should change the order and go for the 16gb, I looked at my phone and tablet, not including the music on my phone, I have less than 2gb of data on each, so it looks like 8gb would be plenty for me but as its is impossible to add storage after purchase Im finding it hard to make up my mind.

I also ordered the 8gb version and still not sure if I should get the 16gb model. On my Sensation, if you don't count music, nandroid backups, etc. I'm using 3gb of storage on my SD card. I know it's only $50 but that could go toward something else (e.g., a new Kindle Touch with backlighting).
One way I decide when spending money is to put it this way: I'll give you either a Nexus 7 8gb and $50 or a Nexus 7 16gb. Which would you take?
16 for sure. With all the games that I'm going to have on it I will need all the space I can get.
I preordered a 16GB but I'm waiting on the phone right now to change it to the 8GB. I don't see myself putting any music on this thing and will most likely use it for web browsing and streaming videos. I'll save the money to buy the next Nexus phone instead since I'm in the market for a phone this year. I just hope they give us more than 16GB with the next GSM Nexus phone.
8 for me. I mostly use the cloud even when I had huge sd cards I would always stream unless absolutely necessary.

Charger and card are more useful. Wish they offered better headphones as an option.
Going with the 360 camera. I have always wanted to use one but I couldn't justify the cost. I already have several fast wireless chargers and a 200gb micro SD card.
I already have a 256 sd from the n7 but im going to get the sd and wireless charger. Most people who will get the camera will get it to resell which in turn will drop the value. meaning you cant sell it for as much.

Priced already dropped from the deal with the S8/S8+
but that lower price is still higher than the resale value of the card and charger

Its msrp dropped. Its sale price is going to drop further once everyone is getting it for the n8 and wants to sell. Its gunna be all over ebay once the Gifts arrive.

The resale price already dropped from the S8/S8+ deal. Has nothing to do with the MSRP. I resold the one I got from buying my S8+ and that was when ebay was flooded with them.
It will only drop so much since people actually want the cam.
It's still worth more than the card and charger even with a flooded market.
I would never actually end up using the 360 camera, however I could definitely use a wireless charger and some free memory..
Micro SD card and charger, I have no interest in the camera. I just wish there was a watch available like they offered with the Note 7. Last year I chose the 256GB Micro SD. But, I can always use more memory.
lol, everybody trying to justify why this or that.
i bought the VR setup for the note8 and the 360 cam will come in handy. im a camera op and this tech is right up my alley.
i already have the 256 (2017 edition) samsung evo and i haev a 50 dollar fast charge sammy charger, so for me the camera was ideal!
Don't care about the camera and I would never actually use it. I will definitely use the charger. I'll just set it on my desk at work and keep my phone topped off all day. I can finally get rid of the charging cord plugged into my computer and the cheap plastic phone stand.
I wish that they were giving away a Gear 3 watch with the phone. I'd jump at that in a second.
I took the SD card and charger. the the charger was useful, and it's harder to find a legit card that's not fake on the market after all of this.. the camera would prolly flood the market like crazy bring price pretty low if i wanted to buy one .
