The graphics are exceptional but the lag is so bad that it hinders my gameplay significantly.
I don't understand why this is happening. The game runs perfectly smooth on an ipod toucb 4th generation; sure I know that apple has a way of making their devices run apps smoothly. I also know that optimus 2x's tegra 2 gpu chipset isn't the most powerful but it's certainly not a low end GPU either. As a result coupled with a dual core processor surely it should play very smoothly, when a device like an ipod touch with its mere 1ghz can even execute it fine.

Which android version/rom are you using?
ICS is known for using a lot of memory. So, there is a chance that the 512Mb of our device is not enough for using the android system + game.
If you're in ICS, I suggest you to downgrade to a rock solid CM7 GB rom. (temasek's unnoficial cm7 is just AWESOME).
I am really sad to say it, but i think our device is not capable of running ICS in a heavy use profile.
I think we need hwa driver to run those new games out there smoothly

That's depressing, because i'm currently using temasek's unofficial cm7 ROM
On a side note, based on the Play Store reviews for Dark Knight Rises it looks like high end phones like the Galaxy S2, Galaxy Nexus and even the galaxy S3 experience occasional lag. Therefore i'm not entirely giving up hope of being able to play this game...
Also you say that our device has too little RAM. Once again i'll refer to the ipod touch 4th gen. It only has 256 MB of RAM and a 1gHz processor, yet my friends have shown me how TDKR runs quite smoothly on their device. I'd like to know how this is possible.
I know about smartphones' inferior gaming quality compared to portable consoles like PSP which only have 64MB of RAM and a 222mHz processor, because PSP's are specifically designed for gaming and don't have other processes that interfere with their performance. I don't think the same analogy can apply to ipod touches and android phones, because ipods are essentially mobile devices without the texting and calling capabilities. So I REALLY can't see why our phones are incapable of playing this game.
Use ramhack to have some more RAM available, overclock your processor and use the highest OTF value for the GPU if you use the Etana Kernel. You could also kill all running processes before running the game. Just make sure to have enough RAM free for the game.

That it don't work good on the O2X can only be because of 3 things.
1. The developer have made the game primary for newer phones with more power.
2. The software on your phone don't make good use of the hardware.
3. Poorly written/bad code in the game-
That it runs fine on the PSP you seem to have a good understanding for. Good thing to mention about the PSP is that the resolution is really small compared to phones now days. But you miss the similarity to the iPod? Sure the iPod runs the "same" firmware as the iPhones. Only that when it's installed to the devices it leaves out all phone stuff(things thats ALWAYS on and use RAM).
This is also a common thing that it's nothing that people can deny. Most apps runs better on iOS then their counterpart on Android. Why? Because its easier to program for iOS. Not easier in the mean of writing the code but testing it and making sure that it runs on every or at least those devices you want. Without the need of posting a minimal requirement list like on PC's. Also goes for the PSP and every other game console, maybe I didn't need to mention that.
O yea for the record don't try ICS rom it will be a waste of time since it don't have any HW-acceleration.

I see...so ipod touches don't multitask either. Well that actually makes perfect sense seeing as it's iOS.
And yeah I know about the lack of HW acceleration. LG has to release ICS officially so we can get the drivers...but the hopes of getting ICS on our phone are getting dimmer by the day especially with LG canada confirming no ICS for their phones -.-
*Edit: I'm going to be bold and deny the fact O2X is not powerful enough. I just saw 2 reviews in the newest reviews for TDKR on playstore, one using HTC One X and the other Nexus 7 both complaining about horrible constant lag. If some quad core devices experience this lag, then surely it must be the dev's problem?

The 3D hardware acceleration is working perfectly fine on ics. So there shouldn't be a difference between ics and gb in games. Except some that are caused by less free memory in ics.

i only bought the lg 2x for 3 weeks, and this is sad to watch.
However, i don't see the point of the gpu being such powerful, since android does not have any thing to push the gpu at all besides benchmark. This is a good way to make myself feel better.
I would like to know is there difference between Tegra 2 cpu vs Exynos cpu at all?? besides Exynos gpu being so much more powerful than Tegra 2?
Thanks

oh thats just terrible
Now my O2x are completely useless - it will just stop functioning im sure
No wait - thats not right - whats happening, it still works ? My games still play, I can still read the news, I can still do all the things I did yesterday.
It's just a benchmark - does it really matter that much ?
Those are just numbers in my opinion.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
I might have wrong, but that benchmark is made for mobile gpus and tegra 2 is not like normal mobile gpus it's more like a desktop gpu. A eight core gpu can't be beaten by a quad core or?
Tegra is our one, probably futile, hope of future proofing our phones.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Don't expect Tegra to lead benchmarks for a while until mobile graphics are more geared towards immediate mode rendering (Stuff more like PC graphics.). Everyone else uses Tile-based rendering. I believe NVidia did this to avoid changing the rendering (which changes the drivers even more and etc) once they reach "console-level" graphics. The Tegra 2 will excel in a few things. Don't expect it to be the best performer for now. Expect it to be a capable one.
Don't forget. SGS II is capped to 60fps and we won't know what it's truly capable of
I've seen several gaming videos and the tegra walks all over the Orion. I do agree that push for tegras are the last hope for a unified gaming platform and I think it will work. Nvidia has this backed and will see it through.
i am really sick of the fact every android phone has its own different games on each platform. same game cant be run on different android phones. this is stupid.
its one of the reasons i like Nvidia. they are trying to do something good here for once. you see all those samsung galaxy S2 hardware. but where all the games ? those same games i can play on nexus S. with good frames too. however with nvidia and tegra 2, the users are getting exclusive games that can take advantage of the hardware. thats nice for a change.
let the galaxy S2 owners have fun with there powerful phone on paper. at the end of the day. the Tegra 2 owners are the people who are getting the best looking games.
i am not saying i hate S2. because i will buy it as soon as i can. i love super amoled and the techs for the phone. but if i want a pure gaming phone. tegra 2 wins hands down. not because its the most powerful. but because there are exclusive games that take advantage of that GPU.

so you can see that samsung galaxy with exynos and with 1.2ghz against lg2x nvidia tegra2 with 1ghz and lg optimus 2x seems for me faster for playing videos at this ..!i wanna only know if lg use stock 2.2.2 at this video against samsung galaxy s2 2.3.3 stock
lets compare those two videos and see that there are no differences between samsung s 2 and lg2x
and again dont forget...lg 2x has stock 2.2.2 rom
samsung galaxy s 2 has gingerbread 2.3.3 wich supposed to be faster..

True, and Nvidia is causing fragmentation by using their own compression formats. Afaik Mali supports the one and only standard format, but that don't help much when Nvidia is paying off devs to use their proprietary stuff. Yeah not very techical i know, but check out the SGS2 thread for more info.

I'm wonder what would is the reason behind the fluidity of the iPhone 4 ?
I got the captivate and most of friends got the iPhone 4 in, relatively, the same time.
The performance of their phones is superior to mine even though both phones have the mostly the same specifications !
BTW, I'm using CM7.
simply put, iphone is one OS meant specifically for one phone, developed by professionals..
Android is an OS that is spread over hundreds of different models.. Its hard to make everything perfect when the devices are constantly different (especially when different models are running different versions of Android). It's also open source and has the potential to be better than iOS but needs more time to develop IMO. I think the base SDK is pretty solid but then the carriers do thier own "tweaks" etc and we lose some of the functionality.
The reason I prefer Android over iOS is the ability to customize it. Your friends wont be flashing custom software on thier iPhones which to me is half the fun of having a "smart" phone.
Also iOS doesn't offer real multitasking. Its how they both handle memory and cpu usage. I'm not a fan of Apple mobile's BUT I have to admit that for single tasking and simplicity (ish) iOS is better.

Android is fundamentally going to be slower than iOS just because of the way it's structured. And yeah, a lot of it has to do with the multitasking aspect. Android is much more like a PC than iOS is

What about hardware acceleration. As I understood, ICS support full HW acceleration. So does the iOS offer the same feature ?
If so, does would we witness a change in the performance of ICS ?

Superior GPU, OpenGL, Hardware acceleration, software optimization for one architecture...it's really more than one, single thing. Android guys like to point at it not having "true" multitasking, but that's just not true. iOS can run apps in the background and it is just as easy to switch apps in iOS as it us Android.

The multitasking that you speak off is false. It closes apps as it wishes and sometime blocks access to other apps. I'm not knocking it it works great for most ppl. I've used Iphone 4 for 6 months and It annoyed the hell out of me. The Gpu is exactly the same. Both ru PowerVR SGX 5 series (535 for Iphone, 540 for us). On paper ours is a tad better since it can process 20M triangles/s vs Iphones 14M/s. Hardware accel we do not have (for now).
I started to describe the 4s, which does have the best GPU in a mobile device. My bad. On paper the 540 is better, but the hardware accel of the 4 makes the 535 perform better. iOS doesn't randomly shut down apps, it prioritizes. The performance is still noticeably better, and you still have multitasking in much the same way you do on Android. As for the 4s, we will need quad-core processors and much better GPUs to see that kind of performance.

Having gone to a Verizon store and used the Galaxy Nexus, I can report that it's pretty much right on par with the iPhone as far as fluidity and responsiveness. The browser in particular is light years ahead of the one in Gingerbread or Froyo.
I think the apples-to-apples comparison on our devices with GB vs ICS shows that the software is mostly responsible for the enhanced responsiveness. Go Google!

After installing ICS on my Captivate, I have been thoroughly impressed with its responsiveness. Considering it is a port and the Devs have not had the source to work with, I was ecstatic to see this. Once they integrate the recently released source, I truly believe that even my "ancient" Captivate will rival the new iPhone.

+1. The Team Hacksung build already has the source integrated.
Just bought it yesterday, posting from it now in fact. Absolutely love the screen and form factor, its perfect in that sense...however with touchwiz 3.2 it was just unusable. Went to overcome, didn't help still too slow.
I'm now on cm9 and its still just so damn slow. The browser isn't smooth at all, playing games like anomaly hd and shadow gun just aren't smooth and seem like they're running at 15 fps, and trying to play HD content just depresses me because it doesn't work.
So I feel like I'm stuck with an amazing tablet which is just useless.
Is the situation ever going to get better? Am I doing something wrong? Should I just sell the thing even though I only got it yesterday? I watched a million videos before I bought it so I knew what to expect but using it constantly is just a different story...
Thats tegra2.

I would indeed seem that Tegra 2 is a broken CPU. Never seen a fully smooth tegra device, even a WVGA phone running ICS, its not a lack of power, its just poorly designed and isn't able to deliver its power. I wonder if it's a memory controller issue. The PS3 also has a broken GPU (also nVidia!), but because its a single closed system its been worked around.
You CAN improve things somewhat though. Games arent slow for me, or the browser, but the homescreen is bad. Overclocking helps (running at 1.4ghz here with no issues), change the CPU scaling threshold to 65% increase the sampling rate.
Different launchers improve things to, but none are 100% perfect. ADW EX has a silky smooth homescreen and app draw, but scrolling widgets are slow. Go launcher HD is slightly slower in the homescreen, but widgets are much better.
Part of the problem is Honeycomb which is slow, the ICS builds we have now arent perfect, but they aren't built from Samsung sources. Once we have real Sammy ROMs and Sources to work from things should improve.

You are judging Alpha software (CM9) as if it were final as in Stable status. Things will improve even more when Samsung releases source. In my experience, this tablet has been smooth with ADW EX. Perfectly usable, no stuttering, almost no lag, speedy and long lasting battery. Hey and this is with unfinished software (ICS) due to lack of source! I even had a good experience with firmware LA3. Just ditch the TouchWiz launcher. It helps a lot. If you still want to leave the tablet, be my guest, your choice.

You can use SetCPU to adjust the CPU thresholds. It basically changes load at which the CPU scales up its clock rate, makes it more responsive, but wont make it faster at its peak.
Also, remember to make sure the CPU Governor is set to Interactive and not On Demand.

Tbh I don't think this is a fair argument, the thing shipped with honeycomb finalized and even had an update, neither of which was alpha software and they both sucked and were completely unusable. The fact that I had to root and am currently using cm9 just so that I can use the thing reasonably is ridiculous...
I'm using cm9 and it is a lot better but I still find that games don't run smoothly, scrolling isn't smooth and there's a lot of lag
I do have it over locked to 1.4 and have governor set to interactive as well as I/O set to snoop. Its at least usable now but its so disappointing seeing such an amazing piece of hardware gone to waste. It kills the iPad on every level but the software just lets it down so badly....
We just need to wait, and hope for the best with ICS kernel. Tegra 2 ain't that bad, it's like every other Tegra 2 out there, it has its limitations, HD videos are one of them. Considering what my job is, i get a lot of Android tablets, but none of them were completely smooth, it's Android fault mostly.
The best i got so far was Transformer Prime, but that's Tegra 3, but the smoothest one of Tegra 2 ones was definitely Motorola Xoom. If Xoom can be that smooth with Honeycomb when i tested it, there is hope for this model yet. Software is the thing that needs fixing, so this model gets what it deserves. Even then, it won't be as smooth as iPad, and with every new Android version i am more and more sceptical that level of smoothness will ever be achieved.

As for HD movies I've tried dice player, mobo player vplayer and mx video player...only dice seems to give a decent framerate but still has a lot of slowdown. Some of the other players don't even play audio which is a bit weird, but that's probably my fault not messing about with the settings.
Any tips for sorting out the video? Or will tegra2 never be able to handle it? Because if that's the case this is definitely a waste of a very good screen and while it'll break my heart, will have to sell it...
EDIT: also is there any fix to get 3d gaming to run a bit faster? Will doing a system wipe, dalvik cache and cache partition wipe and reflash help you reckon?
Tegra can play HD, but its limited in what encoding methods it likes. Its certainly no match for Exynos, which will play pretty much anything. Samsung really messed up by not using their own brilliant processor in the Tab. Frankly the Exynos is better than the Tegra 3!
iOS is smooth, but slightly slow. It doesnt react as fast as Android, its animations are just more 'sedate', but as a result, buttery smooth. The problem with android is that in the rush to animate it can microstutter unless it has the CPUs total attention. My SGS2 with a custom ICS ROM and a few further tweaks is like lightening, totally smooth and faster to animate than iOS. I doubt a Tegra device will ever be able to do that, but it should do a lot better than it is now.

You mean iOS is limited, that's why is smooth.

Yeah I'm running westcrips resurrection ICS on my sgs2 and its incredible. Might have to hold out for a 7.7 instead, watching videos of it playing 1080p perfectly and its just upsetting me lol
If I can somehow tweak things so I can at least was 720p videos and play games smoothly I'll be happy. Its just that games aren't running smoothly at all, tried blood and glory, anomaly HD, shadow gun, fruit ninja thd, all very laggy as if they're running between 10-15fps, especially blood and glory.
Considering a wipe and reflash but doubt it will make a difference and really can't be bothered if it won't make a difference....
I guess I'm luck. I can play samurai vengeance no problem

Doesn't seem particularly slow to me... I mean it's no iPad but it isn't as slow as most of the HTC devices I've used.

Yeah that runs okay, but then go try something like shadowgun or anomaly HD, its rubbish.
Once I cleared all Samsung's live widgets from the home screens, I found the home screen transitions to be generally pretty smooth on mine.
Most HD video chugs in SloMo though. Its depressing and sad. Not sure if ICS will do much, if anything to improve that.
Hopefully, Samsung will refresh the ~9in form factor in the summer with some version of Exynos.

Hello guys my problem today is heavy games like mass effects and asphalt 6
Problem is my phone runs those games slowly very slowly and I think it should be faster than this but why heavy games are slowly if we compare it with iPhone 4 (has same processor speed)iPhone runs them very fast so should I do something to run them vary fastwithout hangs thnx

Try closing some background apps. Performance also depends on what android version you run (but I don't think you use Froyo, gingerbread is way better )

GPU in Black is not first class. Actually it's rather old and even if CPU speed is the same than in Apple then GPU is much way weaker.
Can I use chainfire???!!!!
chainfire will make only things worse - it will emulate another GPU...
Sorry I mislead you - GPU in IPhone4 is comparable with that in Black - IPhone4S
just crashes Black's...
I don't have those games so I can't check how it run at my config. But Real Racing 2 runs fine on Black.
thats wierd cause, if my mind doesn't trick me, I remember when first using my OB for first time, a year ago or something, it had froyo and asphalt6HD and I spend hours playing it without problem before I even know about this forum...
now with the big wave of new roms, you can play almost anything you want

Sorry but I tried it with chainfire it's faster

But also chainfire make graphics very very bad!!!!
no another solution (I'm using cm7)
I'm closing all apps before starting but it also hangs

that is absolutely not true!!!!....the GPU of black is still on par with most mid range droids rolling over adreno 200/205.
and of the Iphone, i feel u r comparing OB with iPhone 4 and not 4S, since they are on par. iPhone 4's GPU is as much powerful as OB's. the optimization is of the light (read "flash" free )OS
my OB plays most games seriously well... i feel it's a seriously well balanced device for the price range.
@hemo ali: try and use a task manager before your game start to clear off and release RAM. and avoid intensive apps like browsing, streaming etc while playing.
or better yet, get zeus/marvel
thnx for advice I hope to use zeus or marvel but my problem is in rtl support
is Zeus or Marvel supports rtl???
also what about graphics can I use chainfire without getting worse graphics??
okay another big problem after installing chainfire drivers And i noticed it goes well
but now another big problem(priority is very high)phone full hangs and stopped 4time/1day And I should release battery then put it again why is it related with chinfire???!!
I use cm7.2 rc3 with heux 4.0 kernerl, with chain fire 3d with smartass2 governer.
I play asphalt6, st iv and ShadowGun.
I dont find any perofrmance issues.
The games some time lag, and I see in CPU spy the CPU is stuck at 300 Mhz, killing the game and relaunching it fixes it. I see in CPU spy that CPU is scalled at 1 Ghz
I use Zeus 6.28n and i play both games + front line commando.. and i have no lag and works fine. i didn't change any frequency.. i use RARELY the memory booster when i switch from game to game..

Hey guys, I know its kind of a stupid thing to start a thread on so just spear with me
In 2009 I had an iPhone 3GS. Its was the latest iPhone in 2009 and was super fast. No lags on opening apps, closing apps, multitasking, scrolling screen and stuff like that. It was 99% LAGFREE. Games worked wonderful. I'm a big fan of hacking, so I jailbroke the iPhone and it still remained smooth and fast. For those who don't know, iPhone 3GS has a 779mhz CPU (apple clocked it down to 600mhz to prevent battery drains and other instabilities) and only 256mb ram. Now I have an international version of galaxy S that is clocked to 1.3 GHZ that has a 512 MB of RAM and believe me its slower than the iPhone. I just want to know what is wrong with our phones? Does apple use some magic superpowers on their devices? Opening apps lags, closing apps lags the home screen scrolling for some time, there are frequent crashing due to low RAM, there's lags in browser :S the music player lacks things as filtering of files, it has a worse reception than the iPhone 3gs. GPS is not goood. Even typing is sometimes laggy... the new jellybean made it a lil more like an iPhone due to its 60hz refresh rate and triple buffering but it still lags. Can you guys give me your opinions on this and stuff? Again I'm not trying to complain, I'm just wondering how could this be possible.

Asking one time is absolutely enough. We could stop posting in here, your other thread already got some responses.

Itouch 4 maybe you have the 8gb one which is clocked to 600mhz and has 256mb ram. & believe me I had the iPhone 3GS in 2009 and I remember how everything was smooth even when I jailbroke it I OCed my iPhone to 800mhz and it became really fast. So idk... but now I know. Android uses CPU to render the UI, but as the new JELLYBEAN came out, its UI is rendered by the GPU which is how its supposed to be. That's why its alot smoother than previous android OS

The answer is quite simple: Apple produces hardware and software made only for this hardware, Android is only software which has to work on any device. Furthermore there are more specs than RAM size or CPU frequency. If the hardware is specialized for something, you don't need that heavy hardware.
E.g. Playstations: They are optimized for graphic rendering and do that really well without a great amount of Hardware (I think the latest has 256 MB of graphic RAM). But try running anything else (Windows, lol) on them, it will lagg like hell
Same thing with the iPhone.

If that's the case, then why don't the android community create like groups? You know, Motorola Android group, Samsung Android group, HTC Android group etc. to ensure that the software is running according to the hardware! That'd be easier and cheaper for the companies too, plus will have a great impact on the reliability of the OS

OEM ROMs are not that great, you should for sure try some custom ROMs:
(i) ICS: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...dwich-4-0-4-on-samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000.125/
(ii) JB: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum/threads/installing-jelly-bean-4-1-on-galaxy-s-gt-i9000.131/
