Same problem. Bricked it. How to avoid this next time
I got myself into this same situation. After trying a couple of things like the solutions on this thread, the phone ended up not even powering on. Completely dead.
I have a new one coming from AT&T but I still want to upgrade the OS. I originally started with installing a jelly bean ROM Slim ROM. Which worked perfectly, except the AT&T phone did not work. I assume AT&T doesnt support that.
I receive my new phone tomorrow. So what would you suggest for an OS upgrade that works with ATT? And any idea what i may have done to brick the unit last time.
try semaphore kernel

Cheers again for further efforts in this thread, though I've scoured google and even tried looking for the individual files and downloading them separately. The only one I could get a hold of was 'EZbase-CSC-XXJV1.tar'
I even went in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29331775#post29331775 but to no avail.
I've noticed that the last post was 11th October last year, possibly old dead paths have moved. Would someone be so kind and willing as to shed some light in another direction...
I'd say it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, sorry if i'm not posting in the correct section it's just that i can't find a section for the galaxy ace gt-5839i so this was the closest thing. The other day i rooted the gt-5839i and then decided i would be an idiot and atempted to install cwm4 and now the phone is stuck on the screen that displays the model number. I can boot into recovery but doing a data reset/wipe or wiping the cache or trying to install a new rom is not working at all, all it says is E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument) so i'm guessing i probably need to reflash an appropriate stock recovery (2.3.6) to fix this it's just that i can't find one and don't know which i should try if anyone could help me out on this one i would be extremely greatful as at the moment the phone useless, thanks.
first, download your stock firmware from samfirmware.com
then download odin, and learn how to use that

Hi guys!
Since 2 days, I've got a big problem
My Samsung Galaxy S i9000 doesn't want boot. I tryed to flash JVU, but after a lot of trying, my phone doesn't boot.
I have acces to the recovery and download mode, i've wiped and format all, except /sdcard (i formatted system, cache, boot, data and datadata)
I think the problem comes from the internel SDcard, but i don't know how to fix the problem
Can you help me to fix this problem?
P.S Sorry for my english, i'm french

try a solution from My Android Solutions
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card...make sure you have more than 50% battery charge before you attempt any sort of flashing.
I had this problem once, and I solved it reflashing from ODIN a clean, stock JVU rom.
I hope it helps

I had the same error after i flashed CM9 and tried to revert back to stock GB ROM. I did not know CM9 uses a different (and backwards incompatible) filesystem. I received such an error and had to 1) use Odin, 2) get a JVU stock ROM and a pit file, 3) flash, install CM9 again, 4) revert back again to GB I still did not do, but at least I got rid of the error
same problem
it has also the same problem of my gt-5570i when i open recovery mode and choose apply update from sd card it will appear E: failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory i also wipe date/cache but still the same the problem of my phone was it always booting on samsung logo.
please help me for this problem/
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command and bootloop?
I have a problem with my galaxy s plus. I tried to install cm10. So i rooted, new cwm, Nandroid backup and then i flashed cm10. But I forgot to do factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache! I tried to boot it, but i see samsung , then samsung galaxy s plus GT-i9001 and then it goes straight to cwm. Did factory reset and restored from nandroid it does everything. The only problem is that it ''cant find .android_secure.img. Skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure'' And when i reboot system now it does the same goes to cwm and it says E:can't mount /cache/recovery/command.
But now another the problem is that my pc wont recognize the phone! So i cant flash anything with Odin or something.
What do I do?
I fixed the problem using the process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24831012&postcount=1330
Hope it helps for you guys

I got my phone bricked! Recovery does not work. All i can see is GT-7000 with triangle samsung logo. Can't even see samsung glowing logo. But download mode is working. What should i do now to not get my phone bricked totally?
Bricked when i flashed new rom. I did full wipe/cache/dalvik cache. Problem was not there. Something with recovery itself. When i flashed previous rom recovery changed from PhilZ-cwm6 to CMW 5.5 and i tried flashing rom with it. Why recovery changed with new rom install?!??
Odin. Back to GB and start again. If you get stuck at factory fs you may want to try the revive method posted in general.

Ok first, you need recovery back. I assume you know how to use PC Odin? You do? good:good:
You need to download a stock ICS kernel. Get one (any will do) in Tar format from Dr. Ketan here.
Now download one of Philz Temp recovery's from here (again any will do.)
You need to get Philz temp recovery onto external SD card and put it back into your Note. (Old phone?, Camera?, Card reader?....)
Done that? Excellent!
OK, now flash stock ICS Tar file in PC odin. (put it in PDA box).
Reboot into recovery, "apply update from external storage" and select the temp Philz recovery.
The recovery will now miraculously change to Philz 6.0.1.4
Now select "restore" and choose the file that you backed up on Philz before.
When the operation completes, reboot phone. You will be back on ROM from when you did original Philz backup.:good:

Try flashing the temp recovery and see what happens (its safe)

Theoretically factory reset wont brick, even on stock recovery. But don't do that just yet, time for a different approach, just wait, back soon...

Yes, quite right, but I was trying to see where the problem is. And it looks like Data partition is bricked. I feel doing GB through Odin will just get stuck (classic superbrick symptom).
Lets see how he goes....
just flash any 2.3.5 or 2.3.6
from the thread you following. and let us know if it passes in odin

Yup for VJ's CM 10.1, you will need to resize the HBOOT from 145/90 ( which is your default) to 260/10. You will need a tool called BlackRose to do this.

Then it goes through a bootloop.
So, my question is about these problems,
1. are there anymore suggestions on what I may do rather than flashing? (flashing is my last resort)
2. If I may flash, on what type of firmware do I need? how to know which kind I need?
info about the phone that I got on the back.
MODEL : GT-S5570I
FCC ID : A3LGTS5570I
SSN : -S5570IGSMH
MADE IN VIETNAM BY SAMSUNG (dunno if that helps on which region I need)
I also need links on what file I need for booting on a region that I need.
what version of Odin I need. (I have Odin3 v1.34)
A quick reply would really help me.
I assume you are on stock kernel/recovery.
If so, well, there isn't much you can do without flashing a new kernel or ROM.
You can try using the portable CWM. Try wiping again. If it fails still, flash a new ROM (should be AOSP to be safe).
If you want to flash the stock ROM back, use this link to find your firmware.

The firmware is based on where you live, rather than where it is made.
Also, use Odin v1.84, not v1.34.
Sent from my CM7 GT-S5570I
typo, 1.84 is what i meant.
I live here in Philippines, don't know which firmware to choose, still. :silly:
Also tried flashing with the Official firmware (S5570IXILG1) Italy
still no luck, still gives me a bootloop and a message "can't mount /data" on recovery.

Flash a custom ROM from here. I assume that any ROM is good for you, so long as it works on your phone.
