OFFLINE Voice Recognition for WP8 - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Android Jellybean has Offline Voice Recognition. I think the Jellybean has inbiult recogniser software ( which was with Google servers, till ICS, which needed internet connection ). Also language recogniser for other languages are available to download, just like TTS service.
I never used Voice Recognition on android coz it used data. I will definately buy WP as my next smartphone. But please answer these 2 questions:
1) What you guys here @ Windows Phone section think, will Microsoft introduce OFFLINE Voice Recognition for WP8, or WP9
2) How deep will the WP8 and Windows 8 sync be? Will it be like iCloud, which sync almost everything. I hope EVERYTHING and I MEAN EVERYTHING possible sync between WP8 and Windows 8.:good:

How should we know what is going to be in WP8 / WP9?
Anyway, Windows Phone's Voice Recognition TellMe is offline.

Microsoft removes synchro over Wi-Fi in ActiveSync 4.0

Arrogant Microsoft knows better and removes synchronization over Wi-Fi possibility in ActiveSync 4.0 and Windows Mobile 5.0 - more information available
May 23, 2005 [Wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ...)]
Competition is adding features in new versions of mobile platforms. Microsoft is removing some features.
We have mentioned it already previously, that no longer ActiveSync over Wi-Fi will be possible in Windows Mobile 5.0, and now there is some addtional background information available about this serious mistake of Microsoft with regard to Wi-Fi synchronization:
the wifi/ethernet sync capabilities had to be removed in ActiveSync 4.0 for security reasons. When decision was made, there was plenty of disappointment internally and a number meetings where smart folks tried to find ways to keep the feature in without risking security and without slipping the schedule commitments we had made. Unfortunately, that ended up not being possible for AS 4.0.
To read more on this topic (rather lame justifications from Microsoft employees) click here.
Conclusion: again Microsoft behaves in a totally arrogant and disrespecting (for end customers) way: removes the feature that was heavily used by many people. While other corporations are innovating strongly (example: next version of iTunes will include native support for Podcasting, while next Windows Media Player and ActiveSync will not support it), Microsoft is removing features and not innovating at all - just imitating features that others had 2-3 years ago (as it is with camera API in Windows Mobile 5.0). Clearly Microsoft needs some urgent changes because something is wrong there.
This is the only reason i'm not upgrading to WM5...
WM5 needs AS4 and AS4 does not support sync over wifi, this is the feature i love most in my ppc, getting my mails, documents... everything while sitting in a meeting room.
hell... i need some alternate to activesync b4 i upgrade to wm5
My guess is that it won't be long before some third party is out with a solution that fixes that problem (fake serial driver accessible via WLAN or something).
I really cannot believe this!! I had a Himalaya and was happy with it. I bought a Wizard now for good money, just to have WLAN/WIFI and - I swear to god - in order to use it for Activesync!! I had a WLAN SD Card in my old Himalaya and it worked FINE!! Damn!
This news are almost a year old

Status of VoiceDialing (normal and BT) in WM5

Couple of questions about voice-dialing in WM5.
I purchased MS Voice Command 1.5 and loved it on 2003SE, but:
1) Does it work with the latest WM5 ROMs?
2) Is there a way to initiate a command from a BT headset?
Not concerning MS VC:
3) What other options are available, and what are the best?
Thanks!
1. At the moment MS Voice Command 1.5 does not work in the new WM5 AKU ROMs (at least it didn't last time I tried!!)
Once you install the app it runs once then states there's been an error and refuses to run again!
2. Within WM2003SE if you have the A2DP profile set with your headset (assuming it's stereo?) then you can initiate a call/command via BT, I used it quite a bit...
3. Alternatives are the following:
Cyberon Voice Dialler (I don't like this as you have to record all the voice tags as there is no speech recognition engine.
VITO Voice2Go/VITO VoiceDialler (I liked this in its previous incarnation but haven't tried the new version with 2K3 or WM5)
If you search the forum for Voice Command you'll find plenty of threads about getting these apps working, and working with BT...
Thanks for the response. I'll search the forums and see if there is anything else that I can find.
FYI, I just have a headset that supports handsfree (Jabra JX 10).
I love cyberion voice commander just becaues it doesn't make all the voicetags itself. I think this is why the device is called a pda with the P for Personal, everyone his/her own opinion.
Since english is not my native language and voicecommander always want to make it sound as english it's not good for me.
And suggsjc i love your signature "If the world didn't suck, we would all fall off..." . I borrowed it several times now to friends of mine, interpreting it as a positive thought
Well I guess to each their own. I (P)ersonally liked it having all of the tags created for me. I could find a contact that I rarely used (and wouldn't have created a tag for) with just using voice commands. But having the choice is a good thing.
Despite the glitches with some software in WM5, overall I am very pleased. Much nicer and more refined than 2003SE.
Glad to hear that my sig is popular

Quick questions.

Hello everyone.
First of all, I would like to say that this forum and this community are one of the bests I've ever encountered before.
After that, I've got a couple of questions that would help me finaly buy this Diamond...
1°) Using a lot my email account, and knowing it's a Windows Live one, will it work on the 'Mail' tab in TF3D? Or do I have to go all the way through programs==> Windows Live? Will it work as a standard Windows Live Mail like on my Pc?
2°) Also I would like to know if a French version supports Greek characters for texting.
Thank you for your replies.
Edit : Also, being a fan of Microsoft, I own a Zune, & a Xbox 360. Is there any interaction possible? Especially with the Zune Software on my PC (Replaces WMP11 for my Zune device and is a kick ass) ?
Regards.
A.
Answer 1) I use the Live function of my phone, and it integrates fully with the TouchFlo 3D so yes, it works as normal email just settings are done through the Live application (which is brought up when you go into normal email settings anyway).
Answer 2) I can't say for French roms but I have a English ROM Diamond and the Greek letters are on there, just stashed way down on the symbols list.
I hope this helps. I don't know if you can Greek as a proper keyboard on an English or French ROM, but if you find out you can please let me know as this would be nice for me too.

Thanks for your response, I will look into it.
Anyone else, who owns a Zune could tell me if Zune software works with the Diamond?

Tomtom for HD7

Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere, my internet is not great currently. Can you load tomtom on the HD7? I have read somewhere that it comes with tomtom maps and you pay a premium for turn by turn navigation.
Any ideas?
Thats for the Desire HD, Not HD7, since the TomTom for HTC is using the HTCSense Android navigation app
So there currently isn't a turn by turn navigation app for wp7? Bugger.
There seems to be one: Navigon select
(it's delivered with the HTC Mozart (T-Mobile Germany) on November 3.)
http://translate.google.de/translat...1828,25199-_,00.html&sl=de&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8
No current GPS works so it's encouraging to see that Germany will have something in November, meaning the companies ARE working on it. Won't be long now.
Well I read at Pocket Now that turn by turn navigation may appear in the January update...
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/windows-phone-7-update-in-january-may-bring-turn-by-turn-gps
Of course, at the moment this is just a rumour, but it would seem foolish for Microsoft to ignore an opportunity like that considering Google are pushing it for free on Android...

That probably true as most other smart phone OS have this feature and so they will probably add it soon to catch up with other OS like Android.
Bing Maps for WM6.5 supports turn-by-turn navigation. The questions is not IF rather WHEN Microsoft gonna add it for WP7 as well.

Neither Google or Bing Maps support turn by turn in the UK on WM6.5 so I'm not holding my breath for the WP7 version. Would be good if it did.
Copilot is also being very tight lipped about WP7
Well, I am not sure about Bing, however Google Maps Navigation (on Android) works perfectly in UK and it is quite good. Actually I've never tried Bing, since for WM there are plenty of really good third-party offline navigation software. I do not think we will see the same quality for WP7 soon.

Neither worked on WM 6.5 using the Energy ROMs, but it is good to hear that they made it to the Android version in the UK so there is hope if Google release Google Maps for WP7.
I emailed co-pilot asking them about their product on Windows Mobile 7, this was their reply:
Thank you for contacting CoPilot Technical Support.
Unfortunately we have not tested the latest Windows Phone 7 as yet, We are planning to test it in the near future, but unable to tell you exactly when it will be released.
If you have any further questions, or feel that this incident has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please do not hesitate to bring this to our attention.

CoPilot Technical Support
lol. The CoPilot answer really cheered me up. How pathetic
GPS should be free, MS needs to step up. Android, nokia etc offers free voice navigation. This is the only one I hate about my phone.
give it some time, bing worked well for wm 6.x, let's give them an update or two to get Bing for wp7 to have a chance to get updated.
I was riding home today and thought of a few reasons I could see why it wouldn't work as launched, I didn't write any down because I was driving, but many had to do with power management, and the way the interface is currently setup, minor things that may have taken extra time to get tweaked so they just work, rather than feeling hacked-together
I'm just slightly worried that if Microsoft do bring Bing GPS Navigation, whether it will be restricted only to the US again as in the UK, we were unable to use the Bing GPS Turn by Turn Navigation on Windows Mobile 6.x!
Because if that's the case, us Brits will still be left with NOTHING and no alternative!!
The Navigon product proves it is possible, I guess other firms may wait to see how much take up there is of WP7 before they commit development resources, or maybe they have something in the pipe now, or maybe Microsoft will release a Bing Maps turn by turn product

I agree. Not ALL parts of the world have superb internet access specially when you're off the city. I mean GPS and internet shouldn't be packaged.
Even if Bing maps and google maps ARE for free. With slow data connection and you're on the road, you will 100% miss your turn before your map appears on the phone. That's just silly.
I miss my GMXT on 6.1
Surely you guys are just using the Satnav solution you used before you purchased your WP7 phone? I still use Tomtom on my HD2 in the car, and bing maps on the HD7 on foot.
It's not that hard, and will do until Satnav eventually makes it onto WP7.
If the lack of satnav is a dealbreaker for you, you shouldn't really have bought an HD7.

Blue Tooth HID

Just learned that all Windows Phone 8 have limitation in BT, HID tools e.g. an external keyboard, cannot be connected. What reason MS has for such a thing is not explainable. I want to use a foldable keyboard but cannot. Is here someone who knows to fix the BT stack? We all should complain by MS. the same with the weekly calendar and notes or to does. I like my Samsung ATIV S but not this nonsense from the software - OS builders. In which world do they live?

We feel your pain. I spent the time to explain the BT stack issue in your other threads about this same topic. I also included links to the Survey MS site to add your votes so that this will be included.
I can't imagine we will have to wait much longer for them to accept it. Who knows, so irritating to not have a keyboard.
Microsoft ran out of time when releasing WP, that's why so many features are missing.

MS on WP8 updated the BT stacks that devs had access to and simply left one of the key six out. Do we know that they ran out of time, because it certainly seems like they just don't know if they want to support it, vs not having time for it...
