Pre-order leads to anticipation
Anticipation leads to Angst, and high expectations
High expectations leads to disappointment
Disappointment when you get your new toy is bad.
So, just pretend you never ordered, stop checking every hour... and be happy when it shows up at your door.
Just a thought
Make sure when you forget you ordered it, don't forget day of delivery.

This is some really good advice. I remember being disappointed by both my Xoom and Transformer Prime because I built them up so much in my mind and hunted them down so relentlessly. You come to find out that you enjoyed the hunt and the purpose it gave you more than you enjoy the product after you built up all of those expectations.
Definitely agree. I usually check once a day. Of course, I'm trying not to freak out so much since I cancelled my 8gb and ordered a 16gb just today. Hehe...
I am still upset didn't help should I smash my Nexus against the wall when it comes in to show Google I am pissed at their shenanigans?

This is good advice for anything in life. It really is just silly the reactions we have been seeing lately.

It's always like this for every new device launch. People revert to little kids. That's not such a bad thing. There is enough stress in life that it's good have an excuse to be a little kid once in a while. It's good to be excited and enthusiastic and rambunctious.
The toy may not be up to all the hype, but it's not that important. Good or bad, there'll be another sought-after toy to come along in a few months, and we can have another little girlie tea party. Wash, rinse, repeat. Such is the color of life, eh?
jUST ENJOY THE MOMENT WHILE IT LAST/ U CAN...
I enjoy the waiting a little. I find it exciting to know that I have something that I want coming soon in the mail. It is like Christmas but I know that I'm going to like what I'm getting.
This wait is nothing, I pre-ordered some $200 canal phones mid March which were expected in within about a month, by April they were delayed to June. I decided to wait and when June came around they still weren't in and now there was no eta. I figured I'd waited this long so sat tight, a few weeks ago I was told mid to late July so fingers crossed it'll be very soon. Another retailer is shipping them Monday so maybe mine will be just in time for my new Nexus hehe
Brainwavz B2's for anyone who's interested, I've made sure not to let the wait effect my expectations at all, the worst that could happen now is that I don't like them
Its been my experience that when you try to get a hot selling item as fast as you can, you end up having to pay way more than you planned to in the beginning. I'll be happy if mine comes before August.

I will be happy with Wednesday anything else is unacceptable.
my other phone is Nokia maemo n900
So I noticed that on the left side of my screen isn't properly secured because I can push it inwards and hear a popping sound. Anyone else facing this kind of problem?

Had a dead pixel on mine that I picked up from GameStop
Also it seems the screen is coming up on the left like if the adhesive is giving out already.
I spoke to GameStop who referred me to play store but then play store said any warranty claims have to be done through the retailer. Obviously GameStop is out of stock but they said they were emailing corporate for me today to ask for another unit to be sent. So I should have mine replaced around Wednesday hopefully.

Same issue here. Bought mine from Gamestop. Going to wait a couple of weeks before I exchange mine. Figure that will allow a second batch to work out the issues. Other than that VERY annoying defect, i absolutely love this thing.

yup waiting for batches to arrive @ london drugs (18), future shop (19) and best buy (19). could give them a shot.
The build quality of these tablet is not very good, especially when compared to the Galaxy Tab 2... I had one of those and it was a tank the build quality was superb!
I bought from sams club, and had the same screen separation issue and it had a small dent on one side, replaced it with another one, the screen is fine but this one also had a small scratch in one of the corners...
This might be my last ASUS product ever.... their Quality control is pretty much non existent.
Just bought one from Best Buy and noticed this as well, going to swing by tomorrow and replace it
The same problem here. Ordered from play store

that really sucks, Hopefully next ones are proper, i'm disappointed with asus
Got mine from Gamestop last week and it is in perfect condition. Nothing out of place, no creaking, no dead pixels, etc.
Just stopped by Staples to ask if they had any in stock, not expecting much. Much to my surprise, they had one in stock! Today's my lucky day!
That aside, I don't see any build quality issues, and its working great so far. I just need to figure out how to manage app data between two android devices. (Ie, keep them in sync) Any seasoned dual android wielders it there have any advice?

My mother was after a tablet. She didn't want an iPad, so I told her to try out a 10in and a 7in Android in a store an decide what size she liked the best. She liked the 7, so I said I had a Nexus7 on pre-order, and she could try it out when it arrived.
I took mine over last Sunday (29th July), she instantly loved it, ordered the 16GB there an then from Google Play store, I warned her it might take a week or so, but I was shocked when it arrived early on Tuesday morning (31st July). It's also defect free, and she is overjoyed with it so far. She has already spend her £15 on content.
Well done Google. They seem to be ontop of things now for sure, at least in the UK. Mine arrived perfect condition, but was delayed by a few days (not the end of the earth, despite the impression you would have got reading here).
The new ones don't need a OTA either, it arrived with 4.1.1 ready installed.
I got next day delivery and a perfect unit also, first wave UK device.

I bought one for my mom, she immediately fell in love with it. My dad has an iPad and she doesn't like it b/c it's too heavy, and also because Apple sucks balls.
Nice Story.. my mother liked mine too, especially playing "wheres my water". I will buy her one for birthday hopefully I can purchase it here (germany) until then. Importing 5 pound of Walther Whites blue crystals is easier to get a Nexus 7 from UK to Germany
My mom probably plans on getting one, she just needs to get rid of her nook color. I can always tell when I show her my new toys if the next time i hear from her it will be "hey how do I do this on mine"
I got that when she was playing with the nexus. She also made sure before i left, so I'd want the 8gb, or the 16? lol
I'd get one for me and one for my mother, if only it was available in italy and you could buy something other than apps and books on the market...
Please google give us newpapers at least!
Okay so i went to a retail store to get the nexus 7 there was one left and the lady tries scanning it but it wont let her through the system i call another store and they said they have them in stock i said will it let me buy them try scanning one and she did and it wouldnt work.

Not saying that you're lying, but do you have any proof or news source to backup your claims? In all honesty if this is true I would not be surprised because of the many hardware defects users have reported.
At least my preordered 16 GB unit from Google Play has had no hardware or software issues whatsoever. It was probably among the first (relatively) to be manufactured too because I preordered the first day, so I'm probably one of the lucky ones.

Considering the ridiculous amount of N7's being sold, the percentage of truly defective devices is probably quite small. Hell, an article earlier today says Google expects to sell up to 8 million N7's.

I just picked mine up from Radio Shack today.. (Used ship to store though)
one left could be a returned item that suppose to go back to Google for repair, hence unable to scan for sale.
The Staples that I got my N7 from had a recall on the batch previous to mine. This makes sense since a lot of people have had problems with screen lift and flickering, yet I haven't had a single problem with mine in the two weeks that I've owned it.

it was probably just a bug in their own system, who knows, if it was recalled it would have been pulled off the shelf and staff would have been notified

Indeed, I come here each morning to laugh at the morons that can't understand proportion and context.
There is also a massive amount of viral shilling going on, newly registered users creating posts in the full knowledge that there is a thousands desperate "news" websites likely to report their bull****.
I heard this was true in the UK because apparently, stores like Tesco and Argos had their stock recalled due to the high number of defects, Tesco however seems to have them in stock now but Argos haven't had them in stock since early July
A PC World staff member told me that their first batch was recalled from stock and this is why stock dissapeared.
But I never believe half of what PC World staff say!
I wonder if Google/ASUS identified specific batches/runs of N7s that have issues and recalled only those from stores.
Would explain why only some people have heard of this recall from a limited number of stores.
Well just off the phone with PC world...
They have not recalled any batches due to faults - they have had some returns, but it's not a product recall that made it 'out of stock' - it was high volumes of sales...
This is total bull****.
I pre ordered from Google and a c70 model arrived in perfect condition. The today I bought another from tesco, same batch number and also fine.
Clearly tesco had no recall, and I know argos haven't either, they are just out of stock due to demand.

I was told by staff at two local Staples stores (San Fernando Valley, basically) that they'd had a bunch of units recalled and that this is why they were out of stock.
I took their statements with the obligatory grain of salt at the time, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised. Thing is, though, I don't know what a recall would have been intended to accomplish, since I've received units from Staples since then that have essentially the same issues as earlier units.
No I bet it was a returned one. I went to a Staples to replace mine that I killed (screwing with the bootloader). They had 1 16gb left and it wouldn't let them sell it. Turned out it was opened and returned.
I just got a refund and ordered off Play.

Just called Futureshop and he said a ton of their previous inventory was recalled and thus they had to send it back.
That is the reason both they and Best Buy in Canada have limited to no stock in store.
20 just appeared online to order and were gone in minutes.
All due to the screen lifting issue.
I grabbed one 2 weeks ago online and my screen is lifting...my friends is getting screen issues with barred lines etc...so she has to send hers in...mine has been great other than the lifting.
I've been searching for an Aussie Nexus 5 thread and couldn't see one so I thought I'd kick it off.
I missed out on the 1st run of black 32Gb devices so ordered mine when the 2nd batch came out on 3rd November.
I have to wait until 6th December to get it, so I'm hanging.
I notice the black 32Gb have sold out again today, these things are like hotcakes.
Any of you Aussies got yours yet?
Ordered mine on release day, had it for a week now. Couldn't be happier, but remember this IS half price over other top end phones.
I mean, it's simply brilliant but it does have it faults. Having said that though, I'd go through it all and buy another one if I had to.

I was having trouble sleeping the night that it was released. So I got up at like 5:30am... and was just wasting time on the net and thought I'd check out the Google Play store and the Nexus 5 was there. Woke my missus up for permission (so didn't enjoy that) and was lucky enough to get it the following Tuesday.
It is going great so far. I have noticed that people whinge about anything and everything they can find. You might want to lower the DPI though because it looks like an old person's phone with massive icons that you can read from 10metres away.
But wouldnt lowering dpi make some apps incompatible in play store?

Hey guys, good to see a few Aussies on xda. I purchased my n5 black 32gb from the play store the morning it launched. And received it the Wednesday after.
I'm really happy with it. Coming from an n4 the screen is bigger and better. Despite the bad reviews battery life is definitely better than the n4.
It feels lighter and really nice in the hand
Currently running cataclysm rom with Franco kernel and loving it

This thing rules. Same as the guy above, ordered the morning of, about 8.30am when I got to work and it turned up the Wednesday after. Black 16GB because I wasn't going to wait for the 32GB which was already 2-3 weeks delay by 8.30am.
Will have to try the DPI trick but actually happy with the stock ROM at this stage. This has to be longest I've left any of my android phones at stock [well i did root and TWRP but that doesn't count, right?]
Bought my 32GB Black the morning it was announced, delivered a few days after. Unfortunately it's going for RMA due to random sleep if death and a faulty vibrator. RMA was easy though, requested last night and it's already been shipped, should arrive Monday.
Nice phone, but then so is my Nexus 4
I'm still using my S3 until my Nexus 5 turns up.
I got sick and tired of waiting for updates from Samsung and thought why stuff around and ordered a phone that would get the updates the quickest.

i ordered mine when they were available the second time in the play store, mine arrived a few days ago. Although since its supposed to be a Christmas present and my mum paid for most of it i haven't even been able to open the box yet lol
I bought a white 16G the very morning it was announced. I checked the possible problems reported in other threads. Mine had 2 spots of little dirt under the glass and the power-rattle problem. I arranged RMA last week (not very difficult). Although it was said to be shipped in 3-4 weeks, it was actually shipped in two days. This time those two issues seem to be gone. Maybe it has been the second batch now and LG improves their quality control.
Ordered white 32gb day of release (I start work very early and have been checking the Google Play Store religiously).
Received it on Tuesday afternoon. Very fast delivery.
Since then I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted.
Attached a Spigen SGP GLAS.tR (For piece of mind)
This device is so awesome coming from a Galaxy S3.
Very fast. Battery life is amazing. Consistently getting 20hrs+ with 4hrs+ Screen on time & did I mention very fast
