Structural Integrity of Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 General

So I noticed that on the left side of my screen isn't properly secured because I can push it inwards and hear a popping sound. Anyone else facing this kind of problem?

Had a dead pixel on mine that I picked up from GameStop
Also it seems the screen is coming up on the left like if the adhesive is giving out already.
I spoke to GameStop who referred me to play store but then play store said any warranty claims have to be done through the retailer. Obviously GameStop is out of stock but they said they were emailing corporate for me today to ask for another unit to be sent. So I should have mine replaced around Wednesday hopefully.

Same issue here. Bought mine from Gamestop. Going to wait a couple of weeks before I exchange mine. Figure that will allow a second batch to work out the issues. Other than that VERY annoying defect, i absolutely love this thing.
Sent from my Nexus 7

yup waiting for batches to arrive @ london drugs (18), future shop (19) and best buy (19). could give them a shot.

The build quality of these tablet is not very good, especially when compared to the Galaxy Tab 2... I had one of those and it was a tank the build quality was superb!
I bought from sams club, and had the same screen separation issue and it had a small dent on one side, replaced it with another one, the screen is fine but this one also had a small scratch in one of the corners...
This might be my last ASUS product ever.... their Quality control is pretty much non existent.

Just bought one from Best Buy and noticed this as well, going to swing by tomorrow and replace it

The same problem here. Ordered from play store
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

that really sucks, Hopefully next ones are proper, i'm disappointed with asus

Got mine from Gamestop last week and it is in perfect condition. Nothing out of place, no creaking, no dead pixels, etc.

Just stopped by Staples to ask if they had any in stock, not expecting much. Much to my surprise, they had one in stock! Today's my lucky day!
That aside, I don't see any build quality issues, and its working great so far. I just need to figure out how to manage app data between two android devices. (Ie, keep them in sync) Any seasoned dual android wielders it there have any advice?

Replacement 7s

I'm thinking about starting the exchange for my screen separation issues, and I'd just like to know, for those of you that got a replacement device, did you have any problems with it? Google Play orders only please.
My replacement just shipped today, so I'll be sure to let you know when I get it. I'm not sure if anyone has received their replacement yet.
For the integrity of your data, I assume that you will only want votes from people who are doing a proper RMA replacement from Google.
Maybe you should explicitly state that people who have done retail exchanges should not vote.

I have the same issue on the right side of my screen. But I think it is caused, at least in my case, by the lifted corner on the left side as the screen is up and over the silver bezel pulling it away from the right side.

unlikely - there is no trace of the device being rooted and the status will be set back to 'locked'
Just ordered my replacement today July 24,2012 @ 5:45 MDT...
8GB N7 from Play Store
The left side of my screen feels very loose and creaks when I use that side in regular loose, t's sort of a sticky-spongey feel and will kind stick if I push a little harder on it. I even popped the back off and tried to tighten the screws to no avail.
The only thing I am worried about is while prying the plastic I nicked the back plastic a tiny bit, but only a tiny bit and you'd have to look for it specifically to notice, but a nick none the less, I just hope they don't null and void the warranty with something minor like that because I popped the back off to try and tighten the screws.
Anyone else in the same boat?
Google is really fast for the replacement. I emailed them yesterday and the new unit will arrive tomorrow. I think the new one won`t have the separated screen problem, which is the reason I asked the replacement.

I ordered my replacement N7 16 gb 7/23 @ 11 pm for screen separation on the left side...Still haven't received tracking on the replacement, but when I get an update I will let you know and will report if the replacement has any issues.
I originally ordered two Nexus 7 16gb versions when they first became available, one for me and one for my dad's 60th. I got them both last week
but the the one for me had a big screen separation on the left hand side. The screen was basically bouncing around. I decided to open the 2nd device as my dad's 60th inst until September and although better it still had the screen slightly raised above the silver bevel.
I rang Google on Monday night and was told the issue would be sent to a specialist to deal with. I got the replacement RMA email for both devices
this morning. The email contains a link for each device to re-order however the first link correctly add a new 16gb model to my Google wallet but the 2nd device link adds an 8gb model :crying: even though both RMA pdf clearly state the original devices are both 16gb versions.
Think its just and honest mistake by Google but just waiting to hear back from the email I sent them but guess I'll have to wait for the yanks to wake up.

soooooo annoying, no 16gb in stock

I just wanted to vent my anger here.
I got my nexus 7 on 13th July and used it for 2 days. I then noticed light bleed so sent it back to ebuyer.
At no point was i warned of stock and demand etc.
This week i was told that it'd be sent out on Thursday (today).
I have just called and they say they are sorry but will have no stock until 10th August.
Totally gutted i have paid for something i can't use for at least another 2 weeks!
This is a massive mis-judgement from google, maybe they weren;t backing themselves so much.
For a milli second i considered cancelling and getting something else. I'll wait it out.
Rant over. sorry
I bought mine from the play store. 16 gig.
Had light bleed exactly like this:
http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-7-backlight-bleeding-issue-spotted-102236/
Contacted Google on the 23rd of July. My replacement device shipped yesterday.
Sounds like you should have bought from the Play store. Whenever anything new comes out there is limited stock (yes, even apple products). There is nothing new about this and this shouldn't be news to you. Sucks that you got a bum unit but lots of others did as well. You just don't have the luxury of having Google support because you didn't buy through them, I'm assuming, so that you can get your tablet sooner. Blame Asus for their crappy manufacturing track record with tablets.
Its ok. cancelled ebuyer order, Tesco of all places have stock. picking it up tomorrow! super!
I don't think Google anticipated this kind of demand.
Most Android tablets haven't exactly been sold out everywhere in the past.

UK Units - General Condition?

Hi, i'm about to order my Nexus 7 in a few days when its payday. I was wondering, for anyone else who has ordered from the UK what is the general condition of their units, any defects etc. etc? Im going to be ordering from Tesco direct if anyone else has ordered from there..
Thanks.
I bought mine from the UK Play Store and it's perfect. 8gb model.

Mine too is perfect. Ordered from Google and arrived ontime.
Don't let the Apple shills claiming defects and poor store delivery put you off. That is their aim.
PS. I see Argos also have stock again of 16GB.
Got 2 units (8gb and 16gb) from Google play store and both are absolutely perfect. No defect at all.

bought 16g from play store. pre ordered on 5th july, shipped last week. absolutely NO defects that everyone else is talking about.
UK must have had good shipments.
Two from Tesco both with screen lift. Seems like play store is the way to go in the UK.
16gb from play store, has the screen lift problem, still waiting on google bothering their @rse getting back to me with RMA details

Got an 8GB from the Play Store, unit shipped from a company called Computec 2000 and the box had been re-sealed with new custom black stickers.....the unit is physically perfect but came covered in finger prints over the screen and has terrible screen retention, washed out colours and a sub-pixel stuck on red. Had an RMA so this one is going back......hopefully get one from a different batch next time. I'm in the UK.
Hey, I got my N7 from the Google Play Store. The 1st one had screen lift, so I got in touch with Google. I contacted them Wednesday and had a replacement by Friday. 2nd one is perfect, so all good here.
Had three from Tesco Direct.
One had screen raise issue. Second had dead pixel , third is perfect.

Got one from PC World, worked for 4 days then the touch screen started touching its self ! Got a replacement from PC world, the last one in the country according to PC world apparently. So far this one it working.
When at the store i compare the units for the screen lift, the faulty one had considerable amount of glass showing on the left hand side of the screen. New one still has a little lift but works great so far.
Bought mine from Tesco last week. Had a dodgy display. Sent me a replacement next day. Took the dodgy one back to store.
Simple. New unit is fine.

Nexus 7 (Asus fail RMA)

Finally i got my Nexus 7 back after 3 weeks. You don't even know how happy i was to get it back. That is until i found it that they didn't repaired it. Well they did repaired my nexus 7 dc jack but they didn't repaired my screen. I was having major screen bleeding and i specifically told them to fix my screen and dc jack. They only fixed dc jacked but I just got off the phone with Asus and now i got to RMA it again... This is very very annoying but i hope that they actually fix it this time. There go 3 more weeks. I really love this tablet but it sucks that i can't use it for a total of 6 weeks since Asus fail on their repair.

Well to be fair, it sucks, but about all mobile device manufacturers have crappy warranty service. Google does advance shipping on nexus devices that's why I bought my tablet straight from them. Wasn't crazy about the extra $14 to ship it but figured if I ever had a problem it would be less hassle then dealing with Asus.

Yea Google needs to setup some kind of advanced replacement for this stuff. Never have I ever had to send a device out for repair. Just send me a refurb, I'll send you mine, fix mine, and return it to someone else. Seems it would be better that way. Customers shouldn't be bothered with whatever happens behind the curtains...
I can understand laptop and PCs as those are a little more personal because of data and parts.

This is one of the things people forget about when they say Apple charges too much money. When you have a problem, you goto the Apple store, they'll hand you a 'new' device on the spot. Its usually a refurb, but if they don't have any refurbs, you get a new one. And if they don't have any new ones, you get an upgrade. My wife's iPhone 4 had an issue with the charging port. They had zero iPhone 4's in stock at the Apple store so they gave her a brand new 4S. Not a refurb, they opened a brand new box and handed it to her.
I'm surprised Samsung hasn't started doing this even if its a 'mini store' inside of places like Best Buy or the like.

Yeah that's typically how advance shipping works. You typically require a credit card to use it, exception being a carriers warrant service, which is because they can just bill your account if they find the warranty to be void

They returned me a new nexus 7 as they said, and when i opened the box there was a nexus 7 with screen lift , and scratched screen + someone tried to open it so i have real bad scratches from the sides all sides. How nice. Paid 260 euros for a nexus 7 16 gb. For that money i could've had a 32GB 3G Nexus 7 . Well that is how my luck is .

A few weeks ago after light use, and most of that reading, I noticed an entire band of pixels lighter than the rest of the screen. Mind you, my Nexus was 3 weeks old and that was 3 weeks ago. Notified ASUS and quickly got an RMA. Sent it in, got it back, read the repair note *BATTERY BAD, REPLACED BATTERY*. Nope didn't even fix the screen, let alone touch it. It still has the same band of light pixels. I promptly emailed them back and am still waiting for a reply. I read so many mixed reviews about ASUS customer support that I dreaded sending it in. After my incident I understand why.
just received my nexus 7 after three weeks
let me tell you how happy I am to have it back, though they didn't fix one thing on my c9o. not the screen flicker nor the charging issues..nothing.
on the paper had said found nothing wrong. also they stole my charger...it was written in the report that I was going to send that in as well and wrote on the paper inside the box.
this was Texas facility
I called then where's my charger..they opened a case for me, said were going to put me on hold to speak to manager, stayed on for 15mins then they hung up on me.

Helps to be near an Apple store for that. I had the awful luck to be at school (with no means to the nearest Apple store before my warranty ran out) when my trackpad went nuts two days before warranty's end. Now I live next to one but I'm past warranty. And as the student manager for our college helpdesk, Apple makes mail-ins absolutely awful unless you're willing to argue.
That said, done and done on their in-store support. But Apple's got the on-the-ground presence to do that sort of thing. If Google made their own retail shops, I would be a happy person indeed.
...but what would you call them? I think it's Microsoft's Experts, Apple's Geniouses, and Google's...I dunno, kNow-ers?

You CAN get a perfect Nexus 4

For anyone who is thinking about buying the Nexus 4, but is worried about all the threads you've seen citing various problems with the screen, etc.
Perfect Nexus 4's DO exist. I bought mine off of the play store about 2 weeks ago, and everything was great except one thing - there was a screen defect that took up about 1/4" of the right side of the display.
I contacted Google who made the exchange process painless.. and I received my new Nexus 4 yesterday. It is, without a doubt, 100% absolutely perfect.
No hissing from the speaker, a brilliant screen, excellent blue tooth/wifi connectivity, fast as hell, great reception/call quality, just perfect.
I didn't have any of those problems with my other Nexus 4, other than that minor screen defect. Just wanted to let everyone know they are getting much better with their QA on these, GO GET ONE NOW!
Coming from a Galaxy S3, I can honestly say the Nexus 4 is the best phone I have ever had. Hands down I would sell my S3 and buy this phone all over again. Hell I might just buy another one, at this price point it's almost silly not to.
Feel free to chime in if you have a perfect Nexus 4

Yeah I'll probably give it to my wife and sell her GS2
Received my Nexus 4 on 04/04/2013 and it is flawless as far as I can tell. None of the problems posted in threads on this site are present as of yet (knock on wood). I've had really good luck with online orders of electronics though. I know a lot of people that don't like ordering electronics on the Internet because they always RMA. Anyway, just thought I'd post for statistics.
Less on-topic than my previous paragraph, I love my Nexus 4. By far best phone I've ever had, hardware- and software-wise.
Mine's not flawless but the 'defects' are so small that they're not noticeable. My volume rocker squeaks a little when stroked from top to bottom. I know it sounds weird but that's the only way I can make the noise. It's very minute and you have to be listening for it specifically to hear it unless the room's silent. Five of my friends also have N4s and none of them have complained about them at all.
Mines perfect. Rev 11.

I didn't have to "warranty" exchange it because I will still within my initial purchase period (I think it's 15 days)
A warranty exchange is different because they can (and usually do) provide a refurbished device instead of a brand new one.
They offered me a refund, but instead I opted for an "advanced replacement". That means they send me the brand new phone but place a hold on my account for the amount of the phone ($359, they don't charge the shipping or tax) until I send the new phone back.
I received my replacement in 3 days and I am sending my original phone back today.
