A2SDX
A2SDX - DATA TO SD-EXT
(CM9 - CM10 - AOKP)
First of all : Buy a DECENT SD card with decent write speeds. It does not cost much and you wil be happy with the result!
I highly recommend using a class 10 external SD card for this to work optimally
This works perfectly in combination with SWAP in the post below. If you are planning to use SWAP also dont forget to define SWAP space while partitioning your SD!
What the hell is A2SDX and why would i install it?
A2SDX modified for jellybean, will extend your internal storage with the SD-EXT size without lags.
Attached you can find the script, use only in combination with EXT partition on you SD card!
INSTRUCTIONS
Partition your SD via CWM recovery OR via Windows. I recommend doing it via WINDOWS for optimal results!
Do note, its not needed to do this again if you already have a EXT partition. You just can flash the attached zip then.
- VIA CWM RECOVERY:
REMOVE ANY OTHER SCRIPT FOR APPS 2 SD
1. Backup the contents of your SD card
1. Partition EXT3 with the partition option in cwm recovery (beware, this will erase your SD card, save important stuff to your computer and copy it back afterwards).
- For EXT4 use minitool partition wizard on your computer, its free.
- I recommend at least 500mb partition. Swap size is optional, if you want to use the swap script posted below 128mb should be enough.
2. Flash attached zip
3. Boot to android.
4. Reboot twice to let the script settle
5. Return backed up data to your SD card.
- VIA WINDOWS:
REMOVE ANY OTHER SCRIPT FOR APPS 2 SD
1. Back up the contents of your SD card.
2. Download MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition (FREE)
3. Remove external sd card from phone and connect to a pc using an adapter or sd card slot. (!DO NOT DO IT TROUGH YOUR PHONE!)
4. Right click your sd card in mini tools and delete existing partition.
6. Right click again and create a new fat32 primary partition, choose the desired size. (Dont forget you need some size left for the SWAP and/or the A2SDX partition)
7. Click apply.
8. Create a swap partition and/or A2SDX partition in your unallocated space by right clicking and choosing primary linux swap (SWAP) and/or primary EXT4 (A2SDX). A swap partition of 128mb should be enough.
9. Click apply.
10. Return backed up data to your SD card.
11. Flash attached zip
12. Boot to android.
13. Reboot twice to let the script settle
For more info check : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Yeah Yeah, I installed it already. How do i know if it works ?
Check your internal storage in android and be surprised.
525MB !!?? OMG!

Do note, this is NOT my work, i just packed it up as flashable zip. All credits go to AMARULLZ, Lennox and all other people that added their contributions to the script.

Well... swap space is a partition that will be created on your SD card on which the users inactive will be moved. This will free up physical ram for the OS and the active applications.
This works in perfect harmony with the A2SDX script.
Cool now give me the link, give me, give me!
Calm down, first you need to make sure you even have a swap partition on your SD card!
Just like the a2sd script you will need to partition your SD card, doing this in CWM recovery will give you the option to choose SWAP space size and SD-EXT apce size.
The script is attached to this post.

Yeah Yeah, I installed it already. How do i know if it works ?
Go to terminal in android (If you dont have it, ionstall it from the market) and type : free
Check the line after SWAP, If there are values there like the picture below then SWAP is enabled and working fine.
If it looks like the picture below (with zeros in the swap line), you do not have swap.

Do note, the script is NOT my work, i just took the correct files together and packed it up as flashable zip. All credits go to all the people that contributed to the script.

What's the point for soft keys on such a small resolution anyway? Use hardware buttons, lol.

my hard buttons are old and barely work

It is my opinion sir..I prefer a little display with super fast imput (press a software button is not equal at press hardware buttons)..
If I can give you one advice..
you could implement two options:
- enable\disable nav buttons;
- settings for set dimension of buttons (as cyanmobile...the concept is different..but makes the idea)
Sorry for my english.

[GUIDE] Link2sd setup and installation

I can no longer support this thread. I apologize I will leave it here for people that may find it helpful.
Hey guys I have read several posts were people are having issues with some Roms with sense 3.0,etc.
This guide should help those experiencing the following issues:
1) Have apps on your sd card and icons for those apps on one of your home screens but when you reboot your phone the icons disappear or change to the green standard app icon. icon may or may not still open the app.
2) Mount SD card to a PC while the phone is on. After disconnecting it, the phone shows a message on the screen for preparing SD and afterward, the SD card can be browsed. However, apps that have been moved to SD do not show up in the app tray until the phone is restarted.
Important before doing any of this please note this process can render your SD card useless if you make a mistake. Please follow all steps completely and know that I am not responsible if you mess up your sd card
This process is done from your pc not phone! Things you will need:
1) your Incredible
2) Your micro SD card
3) A micro SD to SD card adapter - this if your dont know=

4) computer im using windows xp
Here is what you should try:
1) Download Link2sd from the android market. Don't open it just yet your phone is not ready.
2) From your pc download Minitool partition wizard for your appropriate system. Install the wizard by following the instructions that appear when you download it. At the end it will ask to create a desktop icon check yes so you can find it easy.
3)Turn off your incredible and remove the micro SD card and place it in the adapter. Plug it into your PC.
4) create a new folder on your desktop and name it "sdbackup" or whatever you would like just remember were it is. Copy the entire contents of your micro sd card to the sdbackup folder you just created. This may take a while depending on the amount of files you have.
5) after backing up your sd card. Open the minitool partition wizard. You should see your sd card. Caution do not do anything with your c drive or any other drives listed under disk 1 Mine is under disk 2 labeled D:E1292
6) click on your sd card. In the left pane of the wizard choose format partition. choose FAT32 as your file system and leave cluster size and label blank. click ok.
7) click your sd card. In the left pane again of the wizard choose move/resize partition. On the window that pops up click partition size. uncheck the use extended data protection mode. type in the amount of megabytes or gigabytes you want your sd card regular storage area to be. In this guide im using a 1gb sd card. I typed in 700 to create a 700 mb regular area. Leave all other boxes alone. So if you have say an 8gb card i would type 7000 to give you roughly 7gb main. click ok. you should now see your main sd card and another one below it now with a *as its name.
first
second
third new partition created
8) ok almost there: Now on the new unallocated partition we just created ( one with the star as its name) click on it. At the top of the wizard click create. You will get a message saying the new created partition cannot be used in windows...... just click yes to continue. In the window that pops up pay attention click create as and select primary! click file system and select Ext3! Leave all other boxes etc alone. You will see the partition size that will be created. click ok.
message you will get:
Creating the partition:
9) Ok here we go.... In the top left of the wizard you should see a check mark that says apply..... Click it! You will get a message saying apply pending changes, disable power savers etc... click yes to continue.. do not let screen saver come on after this and do not allow computer to "sleep". Let the wizard do its thing. This can take some time depending on your system, sizes, etc. You get a dialog box to let you know whats going on. When the wizard finishes you will get a message saying apply all pending changes successful. Click ok...
You can exit the wizard now.
The wizard dialog box when you click the check mark..
10) place all your files back on your sd card. Find the folder you created with your sd backup in it. Select all files and copy them back to your sd card. Dont worry about the second partition as windows will only see the first FAT32 one.
Thats the partition link2sd needs now to set up link2sd:
1) place your SD card back in your incredible and reboot.
2) find your link2sd app you downloaded and open it. The program will load. A box will appear that instructs you to select the file system type of your second partition. Select Ext3!
3) Link2sd will do a few things and ask for superuser permissions.. When this box pops up click remember on superuser permissions!
4) Link2sd will tell you the scipt to mount the second partition was flashed (installed),etc.
5) it will then tell you to restart your phone to mount the second partition. Just do a normal reboot!
6) once the phone has rebooted go back and open link2sd again. You should get a whats new box with the changes to link2sd.
7) to check just to make sure it worked click menu/storage info it should look something like this.
Now you can use link2sd!
Enjoy please say thanks if I helped. I will try to answer any questions you have. This may be possible to do while the sd card is in the phone with it attached to computer but I did not chance this so wont be able to help in that area.
Yay!

Your welcome just trying to do my part lol.
Not to be thick, but I believe I have run Partition Magic on other drives (for other than Android use). Can't you repartition the card on the fly (using the PC) without a complete reformat?
May be possible with this wizard. Skip the format step and everything else should go normal. One would start from the move/resise step. After editing what you want I however can't recall if this particular widget will format both when you apply changes. I'll look into it when I get some free time.
I put the backup and format step in just to make sure things go smooth. It should work without that first format tho...
Lost \emmc mount to PC
Eraste -
I found your guide tremendously helpful and was able to set up the ext3 partition without a problem.
Thing is, I cannot mount \emmc to PC, and I used to be able to.
I didn't lose it after doing this; I lost it on a prior ROM (Nils Business Gingersense 2.1/3.0 v3.0) after flashing a new kernel. After that, nothing I did, old nandroids, reflashing, restored it.
Now I'm on McSense 2.4 which is fairly close to stock OTA Gingerbread for the Incredible, and I have Links2SD running fine, and I have SD card mount, but I still don't seem to be able to get emmc to mount.
Any suggestions?
EDIT - Okay, it's 19 days later, I've wiped the system several times, installed two other ROM's ran Jermaine's/Tiny's ext4 mod which moves \data\data to ext4 and just plugged my Incredible back into the PC for the first time on this particular combination of ROM's and mods and, lookit that, mount to emmc has spontaneously returned. I'll never figure this one out. (Except that ext3 is still there, but Link2SD doesn't have anything linked at all right now, because I don't need the space without a 150mb limitation on \data\data on a Sense 1.0 ROM.

try the "ext2" format option.. as all devices are compatible with it
hope that helps!!
you should decrease the size of the 2nd part because file store in there is so little, the main is half full
now that i have 2nd partition and link2sd, where should i start? i mean where should my app stored before creating link? and there are 3 files to be link, wich to be link?
thankss bro this very usefull ......nice:highfive:
Thanks for the guide, although i have trouble installing. Once I open link2sd (ext3 partition created n all) i select ext3 as secondary partition and i get "script cannot be installed" error, mount:mounting/dev//block/vold/179:2 on data/sdext2 failed: Device or resource busy
Any suggestions please?
Edit:solved by wiping and reformatting ext partition on pc
is there a way to manually do what link2sd does
like via shell
BM first.. will try it later after i buy 16GB SD.. thanks
Big thanks!! wonderful guide!

Increase ur internal memory with --> UNGAZE (script)

For everyone who has an error with a2sd / s2e / link2sd like :
- when install apps then the phone restarts
- can't download from market which says "Cannot download xxx due to an error"
I suggest u to use UNGAZE script, it is similar to a2sd and others.
the ungaze script will mount the sd-ext as the data partition so it will make ur internal memory bigger. we know that it will make our phone a bit slow but it is better than we use corrupted a2sd and etc then have to reflash the rom and wipe all the data.
From my experience it won't make my mini slower. the respond time to open something only takes 1 second longer than a2sd etc.
REQUIREMENTS :
- an android phone, of course (GALAXY MINI)
- a stock/custom rom which had been rooted and busybox-ed
- a stock/custom rom which free from a2sd,s2e,link2sd etc.
> if you already installed one of them, wipe data and reflash your rom
INSTALLATION :
1. Partitoning the sdcard
- backup all important data (eg. Titanium Backup files)
- go to cwm recovery > advanced > partition sdcard
skip above step if you already partitioned the sdcard
2. Download the Ungaze_v4b5.zip
3. place on sdcard (don't extract it)
4. go to recovery mode
5. mount system,data,cache,sdcard,sd-ext
6. flash the ungaze
7. reboot
- go to settings > storage, and if ur internal memory increase, it means .....
- dont forget to set the default installation of apps to internal , setting > cm setting > application
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
TROUBLESHOOTING :
1. if there is a problem with ungaze like :
- when boot up / reboot the phone, the rom back to default (everything is default) it means the sdcard is not mounted properly by the ungaze.
to check the problem, go to recovery then mount sdcard and sd-ext, if it can't be mounted, yes there is a problem
to solve it :
while in recovery mode
- release the sdcard snd put it back
- try to mount sdcard and sd-ext
if problem exists :
- release the battery
- release the sdcard and mount it on pc using cardreader etc.
- put back sdcard
- reboot to recovery
- try to mount sdcard and sd-ext
- if it is mounted succesfully then reboot your phone
2. WiFi MAC Address always changed (thanks to denzel)
For all that want use ungaze script but mac address change every connection.
Here the solution:
Problem is the absence in this case of this file: .nvmac.info in /data -->
Important file to read after searches, about that file, with root explorer is this: wlan_mac in /system/bin/
Read this file and you can found a good solution. This part:
Code:
Code:
if ! ls /data/.nvmac.info; then
while true; do
case `getprop ril.wifi_macaddr` in
"")
# $SYSLOG "Still waiting for mac property"
sleep 1
;;
*)
break
;;
esac
done
$SYSLOG "Generate mac file" `getprop ril.wifi_macaddr`
echo `getprop ril.wifi_macaddr` > /data/.nvmac.info
fi
For some reason this code with ungaze script (data on sdext cause the problem?) dont work.
So from emulator:
getprop ril.wifi_macaddr > /data/.nvmac.info
Now, to every connection, to every boot, also with ungaze, you will have always the same original wifi mac address.

At least two variants of JellyBean CM10 for Atrix are now available courtesy of xda members epinter and jokersax11. So I created a Dual Boot Flashable Zip (DBFZ) with CM10 (epinter) on emmc and CM7.2 RC3 on SD card. This is consistent with the philosophy of hosting an alpha ROM on emmc and a stable ROM on SD, thus making it easier to manage dual boot when flashing alphas.
Dual-Boot-CM10-epinter-0727-CM7.2-RC3-signed.zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?grp4adjqwuhica1
I noticed that the CM10 path to SD FAT32 is now “/storage/sdcard0”. So I updated the boot switcher: ./Boot/boot-rom.sh to automatically follow this path if it cannot locate ./Boot on the /mnt path.
I also found a bug in my previous DBFZs which this version fixes: In CM7 /system/bin/backuptool.sh, redirect the “mount /system” command to SD: “mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system”
That's it...
Instructions:
1. Boot to CWM and if necessary, partition your SD (you can use SmartPart, which is described further below):
2. Are you coming off a previous dual boot with a non-CM7 ROM on SD? You can ...
wipe SD /cache: http://www.mediafire.com/?mc881zjhl9oqr0q
wipe SD /data: http://www.mediafire.com/?4k4fey6gxe1nbn0
Both wipers assume that SD is correctly partitioned to host ROM.
3. Flash DBFZ.
4. Boot to CM10 and configure SD card ./Boot/boot-rom.sh in Script Manager to boot CM7 (Argument = 2).
Note: If for some reason the Boot directory did not make it over, you can manually extract it to /storage/sdcard0 (CM10 path).
5. Boot to CM7 and configure SD card ./Boot/boot-rom.sh in Script Manager to boot CM10 (Argument = 1).
6. Boot to CWM and flash CM10 gapps and gapps-for-CM7-20120316-sdcard: http://www.mediafire.com/?1c2br6sw6330lwn
You should be able to flash another CM10 alpha right over this one. And if the CM10 boot.img differs from current one, you can update dual boot configuration by copying boot.img to ./Boot/ROM1.
Cheers.

“SmartPart” Android batch script intelligently partitions your Atrix SD card to host a second ROM in a dual boot configuration
SmartPart v1.1 accommodates larger SD card-based ROMs, simplifies tweaking and slightly refines the decision logic for repartitioning.
Dry Run (allows you to see first-hand what to expect without making any changes, since all code that modifies SD card is commented out)

Full Up
http://www.mediafire.com/?vz2q6usm2f84j8q
SmartPart Features
Eliminates the need to swap SD card between phone and computer
Takes the guesswork out of setting partition boundaries by automatically computing them while taking measures to protect your SD card's existing FAT32 partition and all data stored on it. My (pre-shrunk) FAT32 partition actually grew after running this script, lol.
Provides a “walk-through” feel as it computes and displays useful info about your SD card and internal memory --- all in “real time” on your monitor. And the intermediate results files are all stored in the CWM /tmp directory alongside recovery.log.
Option to backup your SD card's FAT32 partition before proceeding
Several options to exit midstream before modifying SD card
Uses all stock ClockWorkMod Recovery shell commands
Can be run from any ADB-enabled machine, Windows or Linux
Preliminaries
ADB-enabled computer (“adb” tool resides in the Android SDK “platform tools” directory)
CWM Recovery 5.0.2.0
Class 4 (or higher) SD card with leading FAT32 partition. Class 2 MAY work, not sure.
Fully charged battery
Instructions
1. Download "part-sdc.sh" from link at top and move to directory where "adb" tool resides
2. Boot to CWM
3. Connect phone to computer
4. At ADB command terminal, enter:
Code:
adb devices (ensure device is listed)
adb push part-sdc.sh /tmp
adb shell (to access phone's root filesystem)
sh /tmp/part-sdc.sh (run SmartPart)
5. During execution, follow all prompts, read the displayed info and wait for SmartPart to process between interrupts. See "Timing Benchmarks" below to get a feel for how long things take.
6. Done!
7. Reboot to CWM and (if necessary) wipe /cache and /data for primary ROM and flash dual boot – or maybe clone the /system partition of a working ROM to SD card.
SmartPart Algorithm
1. Analyze memory and check for three ext3[4] partitions of adequate size behind the FAT32 partition. If they exist, exit; else continue with memory analysis.
2. Check for SD card device name: "mmcblk1"
3. Check if SD card has enough free space to hold second ROM. If not, exit.
4. Provide option to safety-backup SD card FAT32 to /emmc with a timestamped backup directory. Figure on 2+ minutes per GB using Class 6 or lower SD card.
Note: I have run SmartPart several times on my Class 6 SD without backing up and in each case, all of my data under /sdcard was preserved.
5. Option to backup SD card FAT32 to /emmc, check if /emmc has enough free space to hold this backup. If not, exit; else proceed with backup at user's request.
6. Remove any pre-existing SD card partitions beyond FAT32. If coming off a previous dual boot, this will wipe the SD card-based ROM /system, /cache and /data.
7. Proposed SD card partition design is presented for review.
8. Option to repartition SD card by resizing FAT32 and creating three new “ext” partitions for ROM /system, /cache and /data respectively.
9. Upgrade ext2 to ext3 using CWM “tune2fs” filesystem tuner.
10. Final review: Mount SD card FAT32 and ROM filesystems to show used and available space
11. Unmount filesystems and exit
Note 1: Partition sizes may not be adequately robust for all ROMs. May need to increase size of one or more partitions. But the script format allows for easy tweaking.
Note 2: I tried rolling an earlier version of SmartPart into a CWM-flashable zip, but got errors at runtime. I think it is because when CWM flashes zip files, the /sdcard filesystem is mounted and stays mounted during the entire flashing process --- and partitioning tools cannot modify a device while one or more of its filesystems are mounted.
Timing Benchmarks
Platform:
SanDisk 16GB Class 6 micro-SD
Motorola Atrix 4g running ClockWorkMod Recovery version 5.0.2.0
Running part-sdc.sh with single FAT32 partition
Start: 1:13:15 Finish: 1:19:35 (6.3 minutes)
Backup 4000MB from /sdcard (FAT32) to /emmc using CWM busybox"cp" copy command
Start: 2:14:06 Finish: 2:23:09 (9 minutes, or 2.25 minutes per GB)
Same backup with CM7 running on SD card and LCD mostly OFF
Start: 5:23:30 Finish: 5:33:28 (10 minutes, or 2.5 minutes per GB)

Dual Boot Information Here!
PLEASE read Dual Boot Instructions first! See below.
Dual Boot Flashable Zip v1.4
Ziplink: http://www.mediafire.com/?58pxlm9qbj5e1q2
Checksum: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?rg3bozbckzq4baq
This is my first attempt at integrating dual boot with an AROMA-based installer. It worked great on my phone after flashing my wiper zip (wipe /cache and /data on both sides).
Make sure to have a solid Nandroid backup. If you previously had dual boot and want to backup your second ROM, I can provide some direction on how to do it. (CWM Recovery will not recognize the second ROM.)
Then, CWM-flash wiper zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?yguun5clck17pdx to fully wipe /data and /cache on emmc and sdcard.
Then flash dual boot zip and select all of the AROMA defaults if you want to make sure this works before customizing.
Android should boot to the Nvidia Tegra II splash screen and hang there til it's finished loading files and building cache. Longer boot times are typical after full wipe. Then look for the familiar Welcome screen.
Since the primary goal here is to get dual boot working, you can skip Google setup for, tapping “Next” to all the prompts and then “Finish”. Then configure Script Manager using the Dual Boot Flashable Zip instructions below.
In the AOKP/CM7 zip file updater-script, I pushed the kernel you selected during the AROMA install to: /sdcard/Boot/AOKP/boot.img. So theoretically, if you boot AOKP from CM7, Android should boot that same kernel. I personally haven't had much success with overclocked kernels; my Atrix usually goes into boot loop.
Now if you want to customize from here, it's better to re-flash the dual boot version of AOKP and customize from there instead of flashing the original AOKP installer zip. That's because AOKP doesn't include Script Manager which is needed to quickly boot to the other ROM.
I did a simple test by choosing Droid splash instead of Tegra II and black keyboard instead of AOKP kb. Everything seems to work fine except for the usual CM9 hiccups with rotation, camera, etc.
CM9 beta 0.6.9.1 and CM7 RC3...
Dual Boot Flashable Zip v1.3
Ziplink: http://www.mediafire.com/?b7g7i78kzr08hcd
Checksum:http://www.mediafire.com/view/?4yue8mds4sd7zxc
Features:
Joker Beta CM9 0.6.9.1 (emmc) and CM7.2.0 RC3 (sdcard)
Zip updater now automatically backs up the boot configuration directory: /sdcard/Boot (if it exists) and generates a new /sdcard/Boot.
Script Manager free (credits to devwom https://sites.google.com/site/devwom/script-manager ) is now pre-installed in both /system partitions (emmc and sdcard).
Installation/configuration instructions are now simplified as a result of these enhancements.
Dual Boot Instructions:
1.a. Create ext4 partitions on sdcard as described here and/or in my original Dual Boot Atrix thread. I prefer to use GParted with micro-SD card connected directly to computer via card adapter. This can be done on a Windows or Linux machine using GParted LIve CD: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted/files/gparted-live-stable/ , Here are two videos showing how to do this. The second one (better display quality but no sound) was done on Ubuntu, but the method is exactly the same.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fQIQIKeIbI
http://www.mediafire.com/?ys8b07b0vpaivg5 (opens with VLC Media Player)
1.b. Remove SD card from computer and reinsert into phone.
2. Download dual boot zip to /sdcard/Download (or wherever you keep your ROMs).
3. Flash dual boot zip via CWM 5.0.2.0. If all goes well, CM9 should be on emmc, CM7 on sdcard and boot files in new directory: /sdcard/Boot
4. Reboot. CM9 should come up, though the first boot takes longer as CM9 is building cache.
5. On CM9, go to Apps, tap SManager (SM) and browse as root (no need to install widgets). With SM running, tap Menu > More > Advanced Options > Config and set home directory to /sdcard/Boot (use the select directory button at bottom). Exit and restart SM, look for /sdcard/Boot/boot-rom.sh and tap on it. Set Arg = 2, tap "Su" then "Save" then "Run" to reboot to CM7 from CM9. The first boot takes longer as CM7 is building cache.
6. Reboot to CM7 and configure SM to run /sdcard/Boot/boot-rom.sh exactly the same way you did for CM9, except this time set Arg = 1 to reboot to CM9 from CM7.
If you want a jet clean install (e.g. after previously dual booting) here is a single CWM-flashable zip that completely (and dangerously) wipes /cache and /data (ALL user apps and related data) for both ROMs (emmc and sdcard). Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?yguun5clck17pdx . I am presently working on a companion backup/restore zip.
Note: Dual Boot Flashable Zip version 1.2 and below are now deprecated.
Video Tutorial Sneak Preview! http://www.mediafire.com/?ys8b07b0vpaivg5
This video-only clip shows how to partition your micro-SD card so it can host your second ROM. You can open the video using VLC media player (free). In this video, I have my 16 GB micro-SD card connected to my computer via card adapter, and am using GParted on Ubuntu 11.10 to shrink the existing vfat partition and create the required ext4 partitions (/system, /cache and /data) for my second ROM. Note: The sizes of these new partitions are approximately the same as the existing emmc partitions. You can also boot your Windows/Linux computer with a GParted Live CD and perform these operations. I chose to run GParted on Ubuntu so I could capture this high res video with Desktop Recorder.
Bonus! CM7 GApps flashable zip ported to sdcard: http://www.mediafire.com/?dv22qnfqzj5d3la Since this version is older than Google Play, it will initially come up as Android “Market”. And you'll probably get “Problem loading widget” at top of screen. I think it's the Google search bar trying to load. I just delete the search bar as it consumes too much real estate anyway. Let Android Market update to Google Play (takes a little while), reboot to CM7 on sdcard and enjoy.

SD card partitions should look something like this after the install:http://www.mediafire.com/i/?qseve9gppjt2bxe

When you reinsert your SD card to phone, Android should recognize the partitions as:
/dev/block/mmcblk1p2 (system)
/dev/block/mmcblk1p3 (cache)
/dev/block/mmcblk1p4 (data)
Troubleshooting: Copy /sdcard/Boot/CM7/boot.img to your computer. Then with phone connected to computer with fastboot tool (e.g. under Android SDK Platform Tools) enter:
fastboot devices (make sure phone is recognized)
fastboot flash boot /path/to/boot.img
fastboot reboot
Helpful link: http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/fastboot-guide
If CM7 does not boot, most likely one or more of your SD card ext4 partitions does not exist or is corrupted.
Please Note: The ramdisk directory embedded in /sdcard/Boot/CM7/boot.img is custom in that the embedded script file: init.olympus.rc is modified to mount /system, /cache and /data on sdcard instead of on emmc (see code below).
Code:
on fs
# mount mtd partitions
# Mount /system rw first to give the filesystem a chance to save a checkpoint
#mount ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system noatime nodiratime wait ro barrier=1
#mount ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p16 /data nosuid nodev noatime nodiratime wait barrier=1 noauto_da_alloc
#mount ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p15 /cache nosuid nodev noatime nodiratime wait barrier=1 noauto_da_alloc
mount ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system noatime nodiratime wait ro barrier=1
mount ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk1p4 /data nosuid nodev noatime nodiratime wait barrier=1 noauto_da_alloc
mount ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk1p3 /cache nosuid nodev noatime nodiratime wait barrier=1 noauto_da_alloc
SO... if you want to swap /sdcard/Boot/CM7/boot.img for another image and keep CM7 running on your sdcard, you must first: 1) unpack the new image to kernel file and ramdisk directory, 2) modify init.olympus.rc under ramdisk to mount /system, /cache and /data on sdcard instead of on emmc as described in the code, and 3) repack boot image from kernel and modified ramdisk. Along this line, I have developed simplified, more intuitive Perl scripts to unpack and repack boot image files based on: http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images
I haven't yet posted these new scripts as they are still under test, but hopefully they will make it a little easier to unpack/modify/repack boot images.
Please Note: I've received several valid requests for customization, and I seek to respond to each while continuing my research. However please understand that this work is highly experimental. One BIG challenge is the lack of a recovery tool that will recognize the ext4 partitions for /system, /cache and /data on sdcard. So for example if you want to customize your secondary (sdcard) build, you won't be able to do it via standard zip flash. For now, customizations must be done manually e.g. by modifying/re-signing the customization zips or by pushing a nandroid backup of your pre-customized ROM to the respective ext4 partitions on sdcard. I'm looking at ways to automate certain methods. I've also considered developing a "Sendust Recovery" tool, but that would be a huge undertaking
Idea: A flashable zip that clones primary ROM and data to sdcard. Concept offered by XDA member Always_Jonezen (thanks!)
A future goal of this project (and a primary reason for building this zip) is to redirect user apps to sdcard per Joker's suggestion, thus allowing each ROM to access a common set of apps . For CM7, the /data partition is already on /sdcard as /dev/block/mmcblk1p4. I would still need to modify the CM9 paths.
Standard disclaimers apply. In short, I am not responsible for any harm you or your phone may incur by using any or all of this material.
Many thanks to epinter, jokersax11, leonardoaraujo, and the CM/Photon/Atrix/Android dev teams for their excellent ROMs. And of course, to Koush.
Exciting stuff man!
Downloading file, not sure if I have the balls to attempt this one just yet, but im FOR SURE going to learn some useful stuff from this thread.
So keep it up and ill be watchin, and learning as this progresses!
I have been trying for days to get this done on windows, but it just never works for me. My goal is to have nottachtrix on the sdcard and then be able to flash different roms to the internal. I've tried hatefuls guide and have been in contact with him about it...still can't get it to work. I hate to ask, because I know it is a lot of work (been messing with it for a few days).
But, if you would be so kind to make a zip that would put nottachtrix 1.3.1 on sdcard with the ability to flash other roms to the internal. That would be outstanding, because I think a lot of people are looking for the full functionality of a blur rom, and still be able to test the multiple cm9 roms available.
It would be nice when out on business and if the rom acts up.....being able to go back to a fully operational blur rom would be priceless!!
Thank you, and I hope you consider my request...not only for myself, but the whole atrix xda family?
Thank you sir!!!

I think it should be "knock on plastic" Alright, back on topic.
If i flash without wipe anythink (suppose keep current Faux Kernel), and boot on CM7.... AND flash CM7 RC2... and flash Kernel Faux...
Work ? Don't work ?
When switch CM7 => CM9 and CM9 => CM7 ... keep adress book, and another settings ?
Thx ... Good work !!
(For ".img" do you use "mkyaffs2image" ??)
I knew it was only a matter on time before they figured out how to dual-boot on this thing

Presently the /sdcard/Boot/CM directories contain specific boot image fielnames. Tomorrow I will work on making these filenames more generic. But for now you can try out a different boot image file for CM7 by replacing the current one with yours. Make sure to modify the companion "boot-rom.sh" shell script to reflect your boot image filename.

O great something new to learn. Great progress. Will be watching and learning.
Thanks for everything you do. Back to reading. Just thought I would chime in.
I've got a question... it might sound noobish. I have a 2gb sd card...will it be enough to hold the cm7 or do you suggest a bigger card. I'm going to try this as soon as my exams finish so I'd like to be prepared before I attempt this.
Anyways awesome work...this is exciting stuff. I'm looking forward to future development on this project. Keep it up.
PS. Joker usually discourages direct download links to zips. He says to link to his site since ads help to pay off for ads.

Instead of int2ext+ do this , it is more convenient , easy , simple to use !
USE LINK2SD card for this from market after doing the below steps
Make sure u read twice before u take action
Partition your sd-card:
Simplest way is to use "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" from http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html
This tool is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista & Windows 7
requirements: USB SD Card reader.
pull SD card from phone, insert into USB SD Card reader, you can do it with your usb cable mount Sd-crad. Windows should report new drive and content of the drive should be visible.
• step 1: delete old partitions on SD card
Note: this partition manager QUEUES the operations. So nothing is deleted and changed UNTIL you click "APPLY" and then confirm by clicking "OK".
WARNING!
Make sure you are deleting partition on SD card! (not your hard drive for example)
This step deletes everything on SD card, so backup files first!
Dont be afraid, just read everything and think twice before selecting correct drive.
Do you see three gray icons on the bottom? Under each of them the capacity of each drive is listed, and SD CARD has slightly different icon.
Hard drives on the screenshot have 465.8GB and 74.5GB, and on the bottom, the SD card, with 3.8GB capacity.
• step 2: create FAT or FAT32 partition “ note that this partition is for storing your media, etc..”
select "Create As": PRIMARY
Select "File System:" FAT when you have 2GB or smaller card.
Select "File System:" FAT32 when you have 4GB or greater card.
• step 3: select the 2nd partition and select "Create As": PRIMARY
NOTE:
Stock roms with stock kernel will support fat32
Stock roms with custom kernels “ like CF-Root” may support both fat32/ext4 “check their threads”
Cm7/cm9 roms will support ext4
Here Is a NOTE:
For a wired reason, in both cm7/cm9 roms if formatted your 2nd partition with ext4 format, link2sd wont create mount script, unless you have selected ext3 “although the format was converted to ext4”
• step 4: finish
finally, click "apply" button on top left corner.
partitions will be created and card will be formatted.
Reattach your sd card to your phone and turn it on. (you can also do it With usb Connection )
*HIT THANKS IF I HAVE HELPED YOU*
Thanks, I already done that sd partition. I think it has install correctly, found it in etc/init.d/folder>40initxxx.The Rom is fast n smooth but
battery drains real fast. Good day.
Can someone provide me with the link to ICS based MIUI ?

[Link2SD][SWAP] How to prep your SD card for it for Nameless ROM

What does this do?
make 3 partitions on SDCARD
-FAT32 > Primary Storage
-EXT4 > Secondary Storage Internal memory dummy
-Linux Swap > Extra RAM
Do I need to Backup my SDCARD contents?
Not needed, but if you want you can, it doesn't erase your sdcard data unless you did something wrong.
1/ Boot up your Windows machine
2/ Unmount your sdcard card on phone eject it and Insert your Micro SD card into a card reader and attach it to the computer
3/ Install Mini Partition Wizard Home Edition
4/ Run Partition Wizard Home Edition.
5/ Look for your SD card along the bottom and identify your FAT32 Partition
6/ Right click on it and choose "Move/Resize Partition"
7/ Use the down arrow in the middle field "Partition Size:" to change the value and consequently the value of the "Free Space After: field as well until you have created around 2307 MB of free space. *Warning - Do not create free space before the first primary FAT32 partition!!! If you do discard changes and start over!
8/ Click "OK"
9/ Identify the new unallocated space on the drive map.
10/ Right click on it and choose "Create"
11/ When you get the warning about the partition not being able to be used in Windows click "Yes" to continue
12/ Choose Ext4 for partition type. Primary, Resize to 2000 MB
13/Right click on empty 300 MB left Create Linux swap partition, Primary
14/ Make sure it is all primary not a logical partition
15/ Name it if you want.
16/ Click "OK" to continue
17/ Click the BIG "Apply" button in the top left of the window
18/ Choose "Yes" to continue from the pop up
19/ Let it do it's work.
Congratulations! Step 1 Complete!
Now to step 2:
1/ Eject and place your SD card back into your phone
2/ Install Link2SD from the Android Market
3/ Run it
4/ On first run it will ask you the type of partition your second SD card partition is. Choose Ext4 depending on which you made it.
5/ Follow the directions to reboot your phone
Congratulations! Link2SD is now working on your phone!
1.choose the funnel and choose User
2.choose multi select and select apps to to be moved to sd-ext and choose actions then create link choose all 3 checkbox
At this point I recommend you Menu click and go to Settings and choose "Autolink" to automatically link programs (.APK), dalvik cache files (.DEX) and library files (libs) to your SD Card 2'nd partition when a new program is installed.
Now for some strategy!
You say, "I've got all this external space! Why bother putting any programs on the internal space?"
Well...SPEED MAN! SPEED!
I keep Launchers, Widgets, Background processes like Titanium Backup, etc, on the internal as space allows to allow for speed when booting. The internal memory is faster than your SD card and keeping these programs here helps a lot in speeding up your boot time. This is an option with Link2SD that you DON'T have with Data2SD or Data2Whatever!
You can also keep commonly accessed programs like Tapatalk for example, on this internal fast memory.
You can also mass move by multi selecting, several programs to and from either internal, SD card, or SD card second partition. Ideal for your initial move to your new second partition of your apps pre-installed prior to link2sd.
People wanted instructions for a third swap download 81swap.rar in attachment extract 81swap script and push to /system/etc/init.d/ folder, during boot it would mount sdcard swap.
in cmd.
adb remount
adb push 81swap /system/etc/init.d/
adb shell chmod 777 /system/ect/init.d/81swap
reboot phone
to check if it mounted in terminal emulator type
su
free
see swap if it changed size to 400.
WARNING: From now on your SDCARD should not be Unmounted or ejected when phone is on.
Only eject SDCARD if phone is off.
Otherwise some problems might occur.

FAQ:
Why when I created linked apps why does my Internal Memory Storage still low
A: After linking your apps to EXT4, reboot phone to see if Internal Storage increased.
Why my internal memory is still 700+ mb
A: link2sd ext4 partition is like a drawer so instead of 1 drawer you have 2, transfering stuff to your second drawer.
How can I check memory info?
A: In link2sd app hold recent apps button then choose storage info.
How does link2sd work?
It creates a link shortcut like in windows in internal memory and transfer the main apps files in sd-ext.
Can I connect my phone to usb storage mode?
Sure you can sd-ext partition won't be unmounted only your fat32 partition will be so computer will read contents of sdcard.
Stoshke says:
If you connect HTC desire C in USB mode on computer running linux OS, you can mount ext partition on your PC using Device Notifier, but this way you will dismount it from the phone. So be careful if you have automount enabled.
Questions
Hi einstein.frat ,are you running all this on your phone atm?
I ask because I've been waiting for my new sd card to arrive(it has) and have been looking and trialling this Mod over the last few days or so and I've met a few problems and irregularities .
I was going to PM you originally but I thought asking you in the thread might actually prove useful to others as well as myself .
I've read 3 other threads on this subject , the first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432459 is referred to you in this thread.
The second http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919326 is the thread about the app we are using to link to our ext partitions.
Now first question ;
Are the partition sizes you quote , the sizes you used as to me (and reading the other thread) they seem small . I wonder if you have typed KB instead of MB ?
Second question is about the swap file , the thread I referenced is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659231
The Author basically goes through all the same procedures as everyone else but he uses an app instead of your script to manage the swapfile .
Now I agree with your thoughts here(i assume you wrote the script for this reason) that your script is a more elegant way of implementing the swap file at boot up .
But I think your line ;
adb shell chmod 777 /system/ect/init.d/81swap
should actually read;
adb shell chmod 777/system/etc/init.d/81swap
Just 2 very small differences
Anyway I have done it all and got it working on my new sd card so thankyou very much .:good:
Now my last tip? I guess I could call it that , is to do with checking if swap is working . Going back to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659231
The Author points out that if you run 'free' in terminal emulator if you have failed it will look like this (swap is all zeros)

Guys, what do you think, when doing this, is there any real phone performance difference between Class4 and Class10 SD cards, other then usb transfer speed?

I only got mine yesterday (a UHS-1 class 10) to move up from a class 4 , but it's way too soon to say whether there is a noticeable improvement (especially as I've implemented this mod)
.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947560 This is a good thread to read especially where he finds a good class 4 is better than a poor class 10 . Have a read it's worth the time :good:
fixed kb to mb
Your chmod is wrong that is directory 777/ which doesnt exists right way is 777(space)/ chmod is attrib in windows like making it read only, hidden or write protect. 777 means read, write, executable to the file in all groups. If this it not set it won't run.
2000 = 2gb
300 = 300mb
Swap script is to enable linux swap partition on sdcard, nothing else.

Yup I realise what the script is for and my taking the space out of 777 / explains why the script hasn't stuck ( I think?)Just realised I erased the script myself last night as I decided to do a fresh install of your Rom and added a fresh init.d folder when I was doing all the bits with the Aroma installer after ...Doh
Hi einstein., thanks for your mod and development. Could this mod (Link2SD and swap) running on other devices with init.d support (I would like to test it with me)? If so, I would your permission I use your guide as a template for mine get in the S3 mini section, or not? Thanks for your answer and I wish you all the best for the new year, more!

Okay, thanks! I test first Link2SD and it should work then swap. Should questions arise then I write ...

sorry for my double post but ...
Hi einstein., Link2SD works very good and fine but I have problems with the swap script. My sdcard is mmcblk0 and I have mmcblk1, these are split on again in mmcblk1p1, mmcblk1p2, mmcblk1p3. What is the partition for swap? I've tried several but none worked. The value in the terminal emulator is 0 for swap. At the moment I do not go on, unfortunately ... Or can I see in a file where is the partition for swap in my device? Or do I need to swap a unsecured boot.img with swap support? I have enabled the init.d for stock rom and secured kernel but all scripts in the init.d and Link2SD works very good and fine. Thanks for your help.
Regards
Maybe your kernel doesn't support swap if you tried all 3 partitions.
Desire c kernel config have it enabled by default.
Will add this to index thread soon.

Hi einstein., thanks for your answer. I'll try again now. So one of these mmcblk1p1, mmcblk1p2, mmcblk1p3 partitions be destined for swap, I understand this correctly? Thanks for your mods and roms. Link2SD works perfectly. Can something happen when I test a another partition in the script specified and this is not be used for swap? Thanks for your help but sorry for my english ...
Regards leather.face
Edit:
@einstein., thanks for your help but my question has been settled. The stock kernel in the S3 mini supports no swap. I tested all the partitions but not working. Link2SD works perfectly. Thanks einstein. and have a nice evening.
Regards
Just in case anyone is thinking of adding this mod to their desire c my opinion is that It's worth it.
Performance when switching between apps is much better. I've tried most of the tweaks I can find, and this single change has made the most difference.
Boot time is significantly longer and I suppose you run the risk of wearing out your SD card sooner but its still worth it.
Thanks for the detailed instructions.
When using the latest version of nameless the swap will setup automatically ( you still need to create the partitions before flashing the Rom)

einstein, if I delete the symlink of an app, it goes back to the internal storage, right?
and an other thing: after doing the swap, my recent apps button goes straight into 2nd option mode, as if I held it longer, so no recent apps menu comes up. Do you have a tip how to fix it?
Same Issue

I get the same issue with the recent apps button . I've been reading through the original thread for the app but I've had no luck finding an answer.
And yes neoyoli if you delete the symlink the app goes back to internal
Wasn't the recent apps button changed/remapped to long pressing the home button in nameless v7.1.1 ?
