I have tried some of the custom launchers from the store but was not that impressed with them. I still like the performance of the stock launcher but I just wanted it to rotate the home screen and allow portrait or landscape mode.
Well I found out you can do just that.
You need to be rooted to do this. I am using a fully stock Nexus 7 just adding Root to it. Follow the other guides on how to do this.
Note: NEW info...
Just add the following line to the file "local.prop" located at "/data/local.prop"
If this file is missing, just create a new one. You DO need to be rooted to create or edit this file.
Use ES File Explorer, turn on Root Explorer and Mount File System in the settings.
Navigate to the folder "/data/"
Press Menu, New, File, then name it "local.prop" (without the double quotes).
Add the following line to it in the editor...
Code:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
Also change to Tablet UI
If you want the full tablet UI just add the following line also to this file:
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
The qemu.sf.lcd_density overrides the setting ro.sf.lcd_density in the "build.prop" file.
Then reboot your device.
Old method
Note, this method makes it more difficult on re-installs and OTA upgrades, because typically the build.prop file is upgraded or overwritten each time also. The new method above is retained as long as you do not wipe data.
All you have to do is edit your "build.prop" file located at "/system/build.prop"
I used ES File Explorer to edit this file, just turn on Root Explorer and Mount File System in the settings.
Just add the following line at the end:
Code:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
Then reboot your device.
That's it! Hope this helps others.
Confirmed

AWESOME!!! When I first did it, the rotation seemed a little hiccupy. Apps in the bottom disappeared and took a few seconds to reappear, but now its working fine. How do you figure this stuff out??
Edit: The play store doesn't really seem to like it now. Keeps acting weird. It wouldn't let me go anywhere else in the store while an app was downloading. Now that the download has stopped, its not glitching out anymore. I am trying to download another app, and while its downloading, it goes back to the earlier app that I was downloading and stays there. The screen is almost pulsating. Its hard to describe.
Second Edit: I force-stopped the play store and google play services, then rebooted. The glitch with the play store is now gone. But when I rotate from portrait to landscape then back to portrait, the apps disappear for a few seconds again and then reappear. Just an FYI.
Third Edit: Lock screen doesn't rotate.
It does work! Only thing is the bar on the left side that the icons pass through.

although... i'm not running the stock rom, i'm running an AOSP rom. so that might be why.
Appears to be working perfect on CM10, thanks!
Running stock rom, it works. Lock screen does not rotate. Does the stock launcher seem choppy or laggy when in landscape mode? Everything normal on portrait.
brilliant! worked perfect for me on rooted stock 4.1.1
should add in OP that a reboot after the launcher edit helps.
Great edit, thanks! I was using Nova but went back to stock to try this out.
I changed my dpi because I like the tablet view but my lock screen doesn't rotate, anyone figure out how to get it to rotate on stock rom?

Thanks, prevented me from having to spend $1.99 on the Ultimate Rotation app (Free trial ended). I'm cheap
Great tip. Its much nicer than running an app to do it.

This is a great tip. I've been modding my launcher to do this exact trick. It's SO much easier just editing the build.prop.

Ok guys, people seem to be having problems using the LCD Density changer app, so I am making this write up to help you out
If you would like to make your Droid X look like this...
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then follow these steps.
Method 1 - ADB
1. Download LCD Density w/ 2.2 market Fix - This also contains the 2.2 market fix (without the stagefright)
2. Put the build.prop in your android-sdk\tools folder
3. Connect your phone via usb, make sure it shows up with adb devices
4. adb remount
5. adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
6. adb reboot
Method 2 - Root Explorer
1. Copy the build.prop to the root of your SD card
2. Long press on build.prop
3. Select "Copy"
4. Navigate to /system
5. Click R/W in the top right corner
6. Paste, and overwrite
7. Reboot
Your screen will now look like this, giving you much more space. And If using ADW launcher, you can use 6 X 5 rows of icons!!
Now if you really like to do things yourself, in the build.prop..
Change
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
to
ro.sf.lcd_density=200
push, reboot.
If you want to revert back, just push this Stock Build prop back into place.
Credit to the guy who made LCD Density app, but it did not work with Droid X phone and koush's recovery installed. People had to SBF, so this post was necessary.
does this change the resolution ? does it affect any apps from running correctly ?
Looks great, I think I'd like to try it. Just want to make sure it's safe I guess.

Jacked mine up.. the method works fine, the only problem is that apps are completely screwy now.. the apps only show up in the original size so if your screen is 4 inches the app is only displaying in like 2.5 inches of space and the rest is just black now, also cause some fuzziness with some various icons in the notification bar ( battery etc).. definately gonna revert back

Only seemed to have resolution problems in the root explorer app, all other apps work fine Aside from that, i think 200 is probobly a little on the low side, may try 220 or 230 for a improvement
Yea I love it but a few of my apps are also little now. I'm gonna rock it tonight and see how I feel in the morning.

Worked well for me as well.
Thanks very much.
FYI
I couldnt adb remount (got an error, not sure why but whatever)
I had to boot into recovery, then do an
Code:
adb shell
then just (assuming your modified build.prop is on the sdcard root)
Code:
mv /sdcard/build.prop /system
exit & reboot!
230 was a good middle ground
Yeah, I like how it looks mostly but some apps don't strech which is kinda annoying. I'll give it a shot for a day or two and see what I think.

[Update: Screenshots below]
I just installed the latest update for Android Market (was v3.0.27 now v3.1.3).
First things I checked out were the Announced +1 buttons and PIN lock for Purchases features but I've noticed something else interesting.
First thing I noticed was that everything is slightly bigger (My PixelDensity is the same as before the update). Next thing I noticed is when I went to the Apps section, is that the Categories now Pull out into a Side-Pane instead of their own screen. But the most interesting thing I noticed is that instead of getting the "Staff Picks" screen, I get "Staff Picks for Tablets". To me it seems the App Market now detects your screen size and adjusts some things accordingly.
This can be a Good thing and a Bad thing. Good because tablet designed Apps(including the Market UI tweaks) do look better on the Nook's screen but also Bad because it could alow Google to adjust things depending on Device even more, ie: certain phone apps might only show up on "Phone sized" screens.
What do you guys think of the new Market Update(v3.1.3)?

Here's the Fix.
If you don't see "Movies" category or the "Videos" app in the New Market here's a Fix.
NOTE: DO NOT USE IF USING OLD MARKET!!
If you have issues return it back to 161!
Root Explorer Method
1. Clear Market data in Application Info
2. Navigate to System folder in Root Explorer and "Mount R/W"
3. Long-press build.prop and "Open in Text Editor"
4. Find "qemu.sf.lcd_density=161" or "ro.sf.lcd_density=161" and change it to 160
5. Reboot
6. Run Market
File Expert Method
1. Clear Market data in Application Info
2. Navigate to /System folder in File Expert
3. Menu-->More-->Mount-->Mount as ReadWrite
4. Copy build.prop to sdcard
5. Press build.prop, Open as Text, Select a Text Editor
6. Find "qemu.sf.lcd_density=161" or "ro.sf.lcd_density=161" and change it to 160, now Save
7. Copy build.prop back to /System, Overwrite when asked
8. Reboot
9. Run Market
If it doesn't work try Clearing the Market data again.
This should allow you to see most missing Apps and Access the Movies category.
If you lose Movies in the Future just Clear the Market data and it'll work again.

...to a different problem. The issue with My Apps is the reason CM7 defaults to 161 in the first place, and only applies to those who have already applied the 160 dpi fix. In a CM7 NC set to 160 dpi, My Apps will eventually display only a white space, requiring us go to the Market's App Info and hit Clear Data again.
AFAIK, we're more likely to see a fix for the limited market than for the My Apps issue.
One thing many people seem to miss: any app's individual App Manager page is accessible by longpressing the app shortcut and choosing App Info.
Japzone, you're doing people a disservice by failing to mention that the fix does not persist once the market app does its data update, which occurs at least once a day.
Edit: damn, once again, ninja'ed by the lizard...

I know about the Icon long-press shortcut but the app screen sits on scanning for awhile, instead I pull-up Titanium Backup as it's usually quicker.
Now concerning the Market My App issues with 160dpi, personally I'd rather deal with the occasional data wipe then the Oversized UI of 240dpi but that's me. Sorry if I seemed misleading.

Hello All,
I just share to make your Xperia T/TX/GX into full screen mode (Your Device MUST be ROOTED)
First, The apps is not written by me, I just share the apps and the link
Second, I just share my experience on this "If make your device burnt, don't find me!!! ha XD"
To hide your Virtual Button, you need to install the "Full Screen Toggle V2" which come from the Galaxy Nexus
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497558
Thanks to mrx8836350
But Before you active this Apps, you need to use another apps to make you can press "back , Home, etc...buttons"
So that you need to install the "GN LMT V1.5"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
Thanks to noname81
The Full Steps (Root your device before start the following steps)
1) Install GN LMT
2) Config the GN LMT, you need to set your Device to "2" from the GN LMT Setting, after that, you assign the action on pie or gestures
"If your gestures is not work, please double confirm you had choose the Device to "2" , from the GN LMT Setting"
3) Test the GN LMT is work or not
4) If work, please make the GN LMT auto start from the GN LMT Setting
5) Install Full Screen Toggle V2 "Must be V2", after that active the Full Screen Toggle
6) Reboot your phone, after that the soft button will disappear and you got the 4.55" full screen
Thanks~~~

Thanks for this. I'm planning to upgrade to a T very soon and this will be very useful.
However..
I think I may be able to do one better and put these keys in the drop-down notification screen. Which means no extra app's, just a bit of modding.
But I'll need someone to test it on..

I haven't had a chance to work on this yet, but that's a good point. I can probably put the back button in the statusbar but the full-screen issue is a good point. There's not much I can do about that. The camera button can probably be remapped so that's the home button, but that's a bit impractical.
You can always exit games without the home and back buttons anyway

Hello Fish,
Finally I can modify the Navigator Button Size by myself
I search many post, no one can tell me how to solve the aapt bammi issue
After a long long search, I found a post said, if aapt not work then bababababa...
The method is, build the unchange version of the framework-res.apk first
after that, modify the res/dimens, then build the modified version
Extract resources.arsc from both unchange / modified framework-res.apk
use the Binary different software to compare which address value is different
After locate the address, and modify the original framework-res / resources.arsc
But the address is not the same, but the pattern is almost the same, so need to search
Use Hexeditor to edit the value which you want "you changed"
Then put back the resources.arsc to the org. framework-res.apk
Then finish~~~~~
PS: modify the Hex address, call up my memory of playing Nitendo to modify the save file or even crack the PC games password ...ha...

Cyanogenmod
The first thing I did was flash Cyanogenmod 10 one of the nightly builds. You can find these on their website. Then I flashed the play store apps. After to get maximum amount of storage I formated my SD card via cwm recovery. After you finish this the next thing you wanna do is settings--->security----> unknown sources. U wanna make sure there is a check in the box. Then enable USB debugging mode by settings---> devolper options----> check USB debugging mode. It will give a warning ignore and just press OK.
*If you want the greyish blue theme as seen in the notification screenshot its angel theme installed using theme chooser
* the city background is a cm default wallpaper
GMD
Next I installed GMD app. By using this app I get to use gestures similar to the iPad. This app requires root access so allow superuser access when you first open the app.
Windows 7
Install launcher 7 via browser because the play store will tell you its incompatible. To get your system background back look in launcher 7 settings. The menu button is in the screen to the left. To get more stock looking kind of tiles search Google or I could load some just make a request.
*this app does not require root
Multitasking bar
To get the multitasking bar the app is called dock4droid to get a second one at the same time its an app called dialdock which you have to install via browser as well because of incompatible error. One bar I use for recent apps and the other I use as quick launch apps
*this app does not require root
This is my first tutorial so please jus respond with anything u like, dislike (besides spelling), any other requests

I'll give it a try soon and let you know
Can you give a link to the theme you were able to apply? Using the nightly from here:

The themes I tried give the error "This theme was improperly compiled..." so it seems I can't get any themes to work.
So I tried...
And if I had no pb to download and install the apps, its now hard to get the result I see on your post.
Can you please give more details ?
Thanks in advance
Can you link me to where you downloaded Launcher 7? Can't seem to find where to get it outside the Play Store. Thanks.
I got it. Had to install it on my Shift and copy it from internal memory. Here's the download link from my Dropbox:

Free version so not warez.
Honestly, I like the look but limited options. Went back to Nova Prime for gestures and other tweaks. Hopefully I can find a similar tiles app and if anyone knows of one, please post it.
incompiled improperly
ok so if you tried to apply the theme and you got an error about how the theme is incompiled properly do this
1: backup using rom manager/cwm recovery
2: change lcd density to 140. u can use rom toolbox
3: after the reboot try to apply the theme again and click apply anyway

Hi,
Ok, my fault... I didnt install the good "launcher 7"...
But I have some questions...
- How to customize tiles pictures ?
- Does it work in landscape mode ?
- Is it possible to gather apps in a tile ?
- And for the multitasking bar... i'm lost
Great job !!
Thanks
To customize tile pictures like phone SMS and Facebook etc
1 hold the tile till it pops up and press the little pencil/pen
2 slide to customize menu and turn every thing off except background images
3 choose a custom design from the attachment or search the web for some more
4 when done press modify tile
Landscape mode is a little buggy so I keep it in portrait but to activate landscape mode
1 go to launcher 7 settings found in the app drawer
Then unclick orientation lock
If u mean make folder tiles by gather apps yes this can be done by launcher 7 settings then there is a slide menu called folders. Make your folder there then add it by going to app drawer-->menu-->add special tile
Multitasking app is a little tricky
Dock4droid can b downloaded from the play store but dial dock can't so search the apk on Google. Once you get it play around with the settings to your liking

Thank you lizzord30 for sharing wit us!
I Will test it as soon as I have a chance but would be great if you could post at least a couple pictures.
Thanks !
Glad to see some one working on something. I do not understand why there is not more interest in this device due to the quality and the price point. This is one bad ass piece of hardware and now it is only $270. You can not get a tablet with a screen this good for that price anywhere else. I think it is better than the Transformer prime infinity screen so the only other one that may be better is the Nexus 10 and they both cost more. I already checked out the Nook HD+ and it does not get as bright. Not to mention I have two 7" android tablets and a 10". I love the 8.9" size it is perfect ! Anyway just keep working at it and since the Kindle Free did not manage to block 8.30 I guess I will have to downgrade but If this gets working good it will be worth the work !

Updated to Version 0.9.1 OP changed!
Might want to add the SDCARD\TWRP\BACKUP\000000\ part... I forgot about it when I was setting it up and had to use the file manager in TWRP to copy it into the BACKUP folder... but she's restoring it now

oops forgot that Updated OP, If your notification bar keeps reloading you need to go into settings-Applications-Notification Settings, then turn it off for Gmail.

So far so good... a little odd dealing with the missing bar at the bottom while typing and I'm having some trouble with the background sticking after an unlock, but things are a bit smoother than they were on stock and LMT is great, reminds me of Button Savior on my Nook Color.
Thanks for the work, other than wallpaper I can't think of anything really odd going on. Thanks for the reminder on the GMail, I forgot about that needing to be done when I set things up initially.

If you use Wallchanger then start service then set your wallpaper their either single or a folder. It should stick but its kinda glitchy. I was trying to get Live wallpapers but not much luck yet.
I'm glad to see development pick up!!

Thanks a lot for making the rom, I was going to go through learning how to put together something myself based off stock. Who knows how long it would have taken lol.

It would also be awesome if you could add the clock widget from android 4.2. Here's a picture of it http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zQSzitDaj...h5EHDuc08s/s1600/Android+4.2+Clock+Widget.jpg
