JB wifi signal - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey sup everybody !
I have tryed all of the JB roms out there, but they all seem to have poor wifi quality
can any one confirm ?
thx

Sane here.
I'm not sure exactly what causes this but according to my phone I definitively get worse wifi through JB then ICS and GB.
From what I've picked up the way the phone picks up WIFI has little or nothing to do with the ROM you have installed. Perhaps since JB is more recent and used on the phones with higher specification the wifi picked up on our S's is the same as before but measures differently through JB?

not agree with you .Please flash Nexus Radio KF1 zip file from CWM or reflash cm7 JW4,JW1 radio files.

Did you try fix permission or configure Strong wifi from wifi power mode in Devil Kernel config app ?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2

Confirmed, wifi signal is poor on JB with every kernel.

You won't trouble any wifi issues if you flash JB ROM with full wipe and full format.Wifi signal bars show same levels just like in GB or ICS .

"specification" nor modem has anything to do with wifi strength

Same here, better WiFi signal strenght on ICS, MIUI GB than JB (doesn't matter stock or CM10). Tried all JB roms from xda, same problem.

Agree!
I don´t know... Maybe Radio files have to do something with that?
How can I find out which one I should flash?

I tried wifix and wifix manager , but nothing changed, this problem is so annoying I guess I'll get back to ICS or GB until they fix it

Modems/radio files have nothing to do with wifi...they are separated modules.
The wifi module is in the kernel. The right modems just give you better signal, with better signal, comes better battery, and i think it has something to do with the gps, but i`m not sure in what percentage.

WiFi was not working at all, Then something happened, Maybe I removed name and added it again that's what made it work, Not sure.

any hard evidence? show some transfer rates compares to ics.
maybe signal strength is not displayed correctly in jb?
bcos i dont notice any speed decrease on wifi since ics

WiFi seems the same as ICS for me. I have enabled the PM Fast setting in the kernel and also turned off the Avoid Poor Connections setting in the advanced wifi settings

Secure wifi
I am using Galaxy S(I9000) with JRO03H 4.1.1 ROM and ZSJPG modem and Devil 3_1.0.4 kernel. when I am trying to connect to a secured wifi it throws authentication error. ( I know nothing wrong with my user id and password as the same works on other device.) please suggest if this has to do with modem or kernel and is there any way to fix this.

i second/third this .. i have a worse wifi signal in jb .. tried a couple of roms .
i am saying this based on the fact that i frequently use my phone in one room of my house and i always got 2 bars.... with jb its never more than 1 bar .. and to proove that its just not a reporting case .. i get frequent disconnects with jb which never happened with ics .. so there .. confirmed ...

This is a feature of JB that was added to prevent connection intermittently dropping due to a weak WiFi signal.
If you want the old behaviour go to WiFi settings, options -> advanced and untick "avoid poor connections"

Is really the signal weaker, or it is only a matter of scale?

Losing data connection (NOT wifi but HSPDA, EDGE...)

This is about all the data connection through the MOBILE provider, so not WIFI.
It is after x time when the phone is on. Maybe it is GPS related.
But bottomnline: the icon with the H or the E(dge) is there and it is even flashing for data, however every app stats there is no connection to the network.
After a reboot all is fine.
Other persons are also experiencing this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=675786&highlight=huuub
I am using cyanogens latest with one of pershoots latest, but other kernels show the same behaviour.
My guess is that everyone has this problem? Is this a bug somewhere?
This happensto mine as well. I just switch in and out of flight mode to fix it.

This is a carrier issue. Not the Rom. trust me.

Oh, ok, I should trust you. If you hadn't told me to trust you, I wouldn't have, but now that you did tell me, I do.
I think it's a software issue, as do many other people. Never had this problem with tmobile on any other phone.
Oh, I almost forgot: trust me.
Does anyone here notice it seems to get lost after leaving a wifi connection? Like this bug?

I have the same problem, im using modaco CM mod 5.0.6
I don't remember to have this problem with modaco desire/nexus Rom

I've experienced this more frequently on Cyanogen roms vs. Modaco's.
really a bug ?
ok guys, I am completely in a stock 2.1 rom .. no mods whatsoever and not rooted as well .. to get this problem, use wi-fi for a while(5mins example) and then disable it .. then use ur gprs/edge and see if it works.. the small E logo will show and the upstream arrow will glow white but downstream arrow will stay dark gray.. both should glow white when accessing the net but it doesn't after using wi fi .. this is really pissing me off having to restart my phone everytime this happens and I use both wi fi and gprs for everyday use .. can someone check to see if this problem is persistent ? thanks ..
Juicedefender is the cause
Ok, I figured out what was causing these problems. And I found out that after uninstaling Juicedefender my Cell connection returns. Anyway Juicedefender didn't seem to do so much for me anyway. (on the contrary I believe)
Can anybody confirm?

[SOLVED] WIFI very slow - unstable

10 days or so ago i installed paranoid android 0.5 and followed the instructions by the letter.
all was well except for the camera bug which i knew about...
then yesterday i started noticing internet connectivity issues as well as speed issues.
it seems that (running speedtest.net) i have no upload speed, and my download speed is also very unstabe (5000kbps one moment, 100kbps the next) and my signal icon also shows i do not have full reception while i allways did have full reception where i am currently sitting (about 2m from the router)
i have checked the other wireless devices to see whether it was a router issue but none of the other devices show any change in reception nor speed.
i'm about to do a clean install of GB, see what that does .. but i thought i should allready pose the question here in case there won't be any change .. perhaps anyone else who has the same issues ..
UPDATE: installed GB and no real succes. speedtest showed improved download speed (14000kbps) but still nearly no upload (31kbps)
i'm open to everyone's ideas.. just hope i haven't broken my SGN ..
going for yet another rom .. gonna try one of the more stable ICS roms...
i'll keep you guys updated.
OK update2 ...
just went and got myself another router just to be sure and it seems that it IS a router problem .. grrrr
let's continue the search ...:s too bad i wiped my rom for this ..
lol, change rom and or kernel, or modem, cause you didnt have it before it is likely its not router issue.
Or try newer versions of rom. Cm9 the base for paranoid and had wifi partially broken in some versions. if the paranoid used a cm9 with that issue, you have your cause.

seems it WAS the router ... changed channel, rebooted router, and all is well again ...
it's indeed strange that it happened out of the blue, but i guess that's technology for ya ..
it pushed me to install PA JB 1.3 (which i otherwise would have left to mature) but i am never going back to anything else now .. !
works perfectly for what i use it for (also as daily driver ..)
all's well that ends well
true, technology is weird indeed that way

JB GPS performance?

I'm having performance issues with GPS under Jelly Bean roms. Most recently Helly Bean. My GPS will lock then loss connection 5-10 seconds later. I will periodically lock again, but only keep the connection for a short time (10-20 sec). I had no issues under ICS roms. Any ideas?
I've been reading up on this and am getting conflicting information. Some people say the modem controls the GPS performance. Others say modem doesn't matter and it's all about the /system/etc/gps.conf file. Which is it really or is it somewhere in between?
Have you tried flashing this GPS Fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493695
It worked wonders for my cappy.

It is conflicting yes but all is a little correct. If you're using the same modem on JB as you were on ICS then its probably your config files that the ROMs install. However if your modem has been changed during a flash then it could be your modem causing problems as well.
I will say modem definitely matters. I've flashed a modem that caused me to get absolutely no GPS signal. Then I flashed a different one on the same ROM and had 8-10 sats in less than 10 seconds

Wi-Fi dropping constantly

Hi Everyone,
As title says, a few weeks ago I noticed that my wifi keeps dropping no matter what I do.. this being as i surf and not in sleep mode or anything like that.
How did it start?
when it happened this is what i did, went to GB rooted rom, flashed up to JB room paranoid android, all worked fine except i noticed wifi kept dropping, tried another jb rom ,same thing, tried ics kingdroid rom, same thing. So then I decided to go back to original official stuff GB, same thing.. wifi dropping, went to official ICS, still wifi keep dropping.
What I have done to try to fix it:
Tried different roms, networks, all settings in Wifi settings. Googled like 3 days straight, mostly this seems to be a galaxy s3 problem not a galaxy note problem. A few people said they solved it by giving it a static ip which wouldnt work for me as im on like 3 different networks, and by changing sleep settings to make sure it doesnt shut off during sleep mode, which i honeslty have no problem with. Someone solved it by switching rom, nothing i find applies to me..
So what do I do??
I would honestly appriciate any suggestion, this is a great community so I got high hopes Sorry if my question has been answered before but I dont belive so, i posted in noob thread any noone had suggestion so I hope I dont do anything wrong with this post.. cheers :victory:

The operation of Wi-Fi is a core responsibility. Try changing the kernel. Modem is responsible for the connection to GSM. If you change the kernel does not help, you probably have a broken phone.

well i have weak wi fi signal.. Most of the modems don't work for me.. Ddlp4 is the one i use..and no the kernel has nothing to do with wifi signal strength
Check your router and see if WPA Wireless network encryption is set to AES, if it is, change it to TKIP., see if you can connect after.
Usually it's nothing to do with the ROM, modem, kernel, android or even the phone itself, it might be your router setting that needs a change.
Know it was long since I made this thread but I wanted to report result, it was as above poster said. Rouer settings, finally found compatible ones after sooo manny roms, modems and other fixes were attempted.

CM 7 and 10 always lost signal

Hi all,
I'm always losing cellular signal when using CM 7 or 10 roms.
And I will not be aware of the problem until I try to make calls, then the signal indicator will turn to an "X". Which means I could be missing incoming calls.
It doesn't matter which baseband I use. This problem always occur as soon as on the same day I install the rom.
I don't have this problem however as long as I'm using stock roms (30A, 20S, 20Q, etc), even if the rom is from other regions.
I'm from Singapore and having the signal problem on M1 and Starhub. Would really like to use CM roms and appreciate if any one can help.
Thank you.

Use SU1120 BB
OK. I have flashed my BB to the SU1120 as suggested. Will monitor from here.
Thanks.
Update: With Temasek's Kang, the phone has been working well for the first 36 hours since flashing. However, i have been having signal lost a few times already today but the signal always manage to come back after some times.
So I guess SU1120 is better than all other BB that I've tried, though signal lost still happens. Looks like I have to stick to the stock rom with stock kernal.
Those in Singapore, what BB are you using with CM7 / CM10? Do you encounter signal lost?
