a very unusual problem - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this is the second time i noticed this. it maybe happens every night but i usually dont have my phone in my room. in the middle of the night, for no reason that i can find my phone will play about 30 seconds of loud annoying music and then ..... NOTHING!! Last night it did it twice, about an hour apart.
I am not sure if it is or is not a ring tone. it is FOR SURE NOT my ring tone. I have tried to find some place that might have an alarm and don't know of one. I have looked at my start up apps, and can't find anythong... even looked at what is running .. problem is, to figure it out would require i wait up all night for it to happen again.
I have rooted and upgraded to ICS .. not a custom rom .. i dont remember if the last time was before or after root or rom change. where do i start to find a fix ... it is probably going to be something simple ... I have ruled out email and sms messages because it doesn't happen when i receive either. shEEEsh!

I wish it was re-booting because it feels like my phone is possessed.
When it happened in the wee hours of the morning I picked it up trying to turn off the volume. I looked to see is anything else was happening at the same time- It wasn't. Tonight I will pinch myself to make sure I am NOT dreaming.
It is that horrible ringtone like music that comes on every phone that Some people actually use.

Kaiser ringer randomly swithces to vibrate! HELP!

This is my first time using this site and it's great! I'm sorry for any stupid questions I ask that may have been answered somewhere else already. I have the ATT Tilt/HTC Kaiser 8925 and love it...recently the ringer randomly switches to vibrate. It does it sometimes when I'm using the calendar/appointments and sometimes when I haven't even touched it. I've seen tons of posts on HTC Home versions that affect it but I found (then lost) a thread that said something about about a Registry Edit you could to to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated or any other thoughts that may help fix this. I keep missing calls and it's driving me crazy!! Thanks so much!
i haven't searched yet, but mine will switch to any level, i keep it on vibrate while at work(Kohl's) and today it switched to loud while in my pocket and i didn't realize it till my VC started to read an extremely long text in front of my boss. fortunately he thought it was the coolest thing ever but he said it will never happen again or i'm fired(ass hole) but yeah i will post what i find when i search later

Thanks so much for your help! Yeah, this is driving me crazy..pretty much every time I'm using the calendar/appointment fucntion, it switches automoatically to vibrate from ring and vibrate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!!
Are you using a stock ROM?
Unless people have had the exact same problem, it's going to be hard to help you without more info on what software is on your device.
If it does happen to be a random occurrence, a hard reset usually fixes it.
i have a similar problem with my tilt
i have noticed this hapening on my tilt which is running duttys latest rom. its only been happening in the last fed weeks.
ive also noticed that sometimes the phone will ring for a couple of seconds then go into vibrate mode as well.
i found my problem to be the settings in spb phone suite. if you have any profiles set etc if you change the system settings spb phone suite will automatically change them back after like 10-20 minutes. hope this is a help to some people. but i was about to go crazy till i sat and stared long and hard at my phone and realized what could also be the problem. i no longer have the issue!
i think this happens when your profile is set to automatic... it takes your status from your calender (if you have set it to busy in some meeting) it will switch to vibrate and if there is nothing for you in the calender it switches to the normal mode.....
I had the problem, then I flashed to L26 v6 and no more problems.

*Dumb question, but how and where do you SET your PROFILE? There's tons of options on the phone, but I don't know of anywhere to change something that says profile from automatic to something else? Any info. on that would be great and I'll try your solution. I'd rather not do a hard reset if I can help it. Thanks!
Having the same issue. Saw this post:

Not sure if it works yet, but good luck to others!
Mike
Looks like this might be due to HTC Home. It appears there is an update / fix:

[Q] phone crashes every night

Hi all,
for the last 5 or 6 days, my phone has crashed every single night. :-(
When I go to bed, I just leave it on the table, not charging, but with enough battery left to easily last for the night. The next morning, the phone is switched off and I cannot switch it back on, because the battery is completey drained.
When I charge and then turn the phone back on, it has done a "partial reset", meaning that all settings are back to factory defaults, contacts are gone, ... All accounts, apps, ... are still there, though. The worst part is that I cannot receive calls anymore either, in this case. Callers are immediately redirected to my mailbox, even though the phone has a signal and I can make outgoing calls without problems. The only way to fix this is a factory reset.
The next night, the same happens again.
Has anybody had a similar problem? Does anybody have an idea how to fix it?
Thanks and regards,
Andy

What firmware/ROM are you using?

I am still using the stock Froyo ROM that the phone came with. The phone is rooted and I've installed a SpeedMod Kernel. However, both (rooting and new kernel) have happened months ago, so I doubt that they have anything to do with the problem.
(partial) solution found
Since a phone that crashes every night, using all settings in the process, is fairly useless, I decided that I might just as well trash it completely by trying (and maybe failling ) to install a custom firmware. So I downloaded Darky 10.1 and thanks to an excellent installation guide, I actually managed to install it.
Since then, my phone does no longer crash every night - it now reboots a couple of times a day The good thing is, though that after the reboot, the phone is back "in action" after maybe two minutes and it does not lose any data, setting or anything. So, it's not ideal, but much better than before ...
I was going to recommend trying a new ROM, but I found that as a workaround rather than a solution to your problem.
Did you perform a wipe or no-wipe install?

As I had pointed out in my first post, the crash that happens every night breaks something so that I can no longer receive calls and have to do a factory reset. Thus, the phone was basically wiped, already, before I did the installation and I then did a no-wipe install.
You are right, of course that this is more of a work around than a solution, but since I was thinking about putting on a new ROM for a while, already, anyways, it is a fairly good work around for me - and I really like Gingerbread and DarkyROM so far.

In the end it turned out to be a hardware problem and I needed to get the phone replaced.

[Q] How to stop battery full notification?

I charge my phone every night and have been woken up at stupid o'clock by the battery full notification.
Googling the problem offers the solution of renaming the sound file on rooted devices, but the screen still turns on.
I know there are apps that will silence your phone until a set time, but I still want to hear if I get a call (in case it's urgent).
Any suggestions?

Dear Sketch-UK,
Here you find a good solution. I used it for years on my HTC HD and HTC HD2.

Thanks all - I did do a search before posting BTW, but i was looking for something simpler (as I have no idea how to follow those instructions).
I will try the app suggested.

calls go onto mute mode

I live in the UK and have samsung galaxy s - am with orange network.
This weird behavior on my phone started about 2-3 weeks ago.
while talking on the phone, the phone goes onto mute mode. but its not really mute. We just cant hear each other. hope that made sense.
if i hang up and try to make the call again, it does the same thing .. straight onto mute. or if the other person tries to ring back, same thing, phones connect but cant hear each other.
This happened quite alot and iit also happened when i got a text message etc
I've been getting ads on my phone and also being charged for content upload. nothing that I know of or subscribed too.
I thought my phone was just 'clogged' up so I decided to set it back to factory settings.
Its been working fine but again today, after half n hour, it did the same thing. I can send text messages fine. Its an improvement because before it happened about 10 mins into the call. But then again I've not used my phone alot.
does anybody know why? please help!
ohh - my firmware is 2.1. i cant get kies to work on any of the computers so i can update
I don't know a solution to your problem but would say one thing.. if you are still on 2.1, you are missing a lot of stuff.. the performance improvements in 2.2 and 2.3 are just huge..
If you can't get kies to connect, then download your region's rom manually from sammobile.com and flash using odin.. you'll get the newest firmware and as it'll be a completely fresh install, maybe your problem will also go away..
^ Thank you .. but I still dont understand ROM and stuff .. I need to research it first befre I attempt upgrading my phone.
Is there a tutorial on this site (step by step lol)
Is there anyone else that knows whyI'm having the problem? It happened againt today right when i called because I was 'charging' my phone as i made the call. I think thats how the issue started originally. I was charging my phone in the car and decided to call my sister.
Did I short circuit something
There is a very in-depth sticky by darkstriker. Should tell you all you need to know about flashing.
Go to general and read the sticky thread.
If you've got questions after reading it, post them here mate.
I'm on orange UK too.

Hi, did you try to search this file with any file manager?
Do you consider make a wipe data?
