What ROM would you recommend for my sister? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey x8 XDA'ers.
First of all, I'm sorry for asking this kind of question, but Please bear with me man.
I'm looking for a good STABLE rom with stable battery life, good performance etc, for my sister. She's tired of hers Xperia X8 since it feels slow and react so damn slow.
I'm a SGSII user myself, so I dont know nothing about X8, but I promised her to try and improve her phone's performance so I would be grateful if you could tell me which rom's I should take a look at. Since it is my sister he knows nothing about tech-related stuff, so the rom needs to be stable and good for daily usage, since if anything goes wrong she have no clue what to do
I know XDA hate questions like "what is the best rom etc..", but I'm just asking for your personal experiences with the different rom and what you would recommend for this kind of usage
Thank you XDA!

if she doesn't need a lot of features and she's okay with eclair, i'd say stick with stock. or go for any of the gingerbread roms. all of them work great especially gingerdx and minicm7. plus if you install a custom kernel and overclock it slightly, performance would improve drastically. and if you want to go for ics, try minicm9 or isdx. h

MiniCM7 + nAa kernel is the most stable Rom out there.

Well, if you want android 2.3 then choose between gingerDX or MiniCM7.
If android 4.0 then MiniCM9.

well, if its about your sister i can tell that she dont need high performance, but an improvement is nessecery.....and this rom must have and some beautiful icons?! am i wrong to somewhere?...no i am not!hahaha:laugh:
first to do, download x8toolbox(here), root, install busybox, install cwm, download gingerdx(here), put it in your sd card, reboot to cwm, full wipe-wipe dalvik, go to "install zip from sd", find the rom you download and wait until its finish, reboot, enjoy!
(i dont thing your sister needs a custom kernel, with this rom she will not have any problem and its a tone more awesome from eclair, so see will be happy)
this is all.

1. Pls use search next time.
2. Is the phone already rooted? Cwm installed? You may want to check our stickies for that.
3. I'm assuming your sis is on stock kernel (locked bootloader). If it's unlocked then that's a whole new ballgame.
Here are some you ay wanna check out:
1. Froyo roms are supposedly faster than gb roms (never tried though, so i can't elaborate on the features)
2. The really popular GingerDX. Smooth, fast, stable, and lots of features.
3. LinuxLx's LinuXperia. Cm 7.1. Great 2d/3d scores (dev is a girl so the appearance may be to your sister's liking)
4. Xperiafan's RCI V4. Haven't used it much but has good reviews.
Hope that helps.

First of all, thank you so much for all those fast answers! Thank you!!
#2
She mainly wants better reaction/performance but an upgrade to Gingerbread or ICS would be great as well. I don't know if it would be good for the performance or not tho.
Thanks, I think I will check out Gingerdx, isdx and miniCM9. I think I'll overclock abit, but I still want it to be 100% stable, how much can I overclock, without destroying the battery life and making it unstable?
#3
Thanks for your opinion, will take it into account.
#4
Uhm, #2 mentioned isdx, what do you say about that?
#5
Hah! yeah probably
afaik ICS has beautiful icons, but maybe gingerdx has as well?
As mentioned, I'd like to overclock abit to increase the performance, so I bet a custom kernel would be good. What would recommend?
and thanks for the quick tutorial, I do know how to root'n'flash tho, since I've done it a ton of time on several other devices
#6
Sorry, I tried to make a quick search in the x8 forums, but I couldnt find a thread about recommended roms for girls
Most ppl recommend GingerDX, so I will probably check that out as well as MiniCM9, since ICS would perhaps be great (If it is stable tho)
She isnt going to play games I can tell for sure, so 3d score doesnt matter I guess. But thanks, will check it out, since it is a girl-made ROM
Amazing fast answers, thanks man! I appreciate any feedback <3

Ics aint stable . I dont reccomand for daily use man. GingerDX or MiniCM7 are just perfect.

ok, first of all take out the battery andd look at the back sticker on the phone(on the phone!!!!!!!!), there will be a number like this 10wxx, 11wxx or 12wxx if it is 11w29+ just forget about unlocking bootloader,so you can not flash custom kernel, if it is 11w29- then look this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24630104&postcount=2 there you will find the links for guides about unlocking bootloader.
have fun!

If you unlock your bootloader and install a custom kernel (Alfs v8a CM7) I'd try GingerZaraki..
Best rom on this forum IMO..

It says 11w19, so that's great
With gingerDX, which is the rom I will install, I've decided, what kernel would you recommend then?

Alfs because team GDX making Alfs kernel too!

MiniCm 7 With Hello Kitty CM7 THEME!

just try Kuyadroid
Kuyadroid is most stable rom,its on stock kernel so you dont need to unlock bootloader !! Its so easy to installing, just need rooted and xrecovery !!

Thanks, I think I have decided to go for GDX with alfs then more opinions are welcomed!
//SGSII\\

Okay, I have a few final questions.
The script to root x8 require ADB, so I need to install that again (just reinstalled windows), was so complicated.
Isnt SuperOneClick easier? ( This method -> http://www.xperia-x8.com/tutorial-how-to-root-sony-ericsson-xperia-x8/ )
How much is completely SAFE to overclock the x8 with alfs kernel and GDX rom?

About 760 mhz..dont set it on boot.
I dont recommend oc.shorter batery life.

okay man im using foryobread now!! looks awesome soo far!! thanks ,,
Usually higher "v" means more features (and maybe more performance), but maybe lower stability.
FroyoBread, in my opinion, is stable at v023b
now that i have rotted , installed xrecovery,, using froyobread,, where can i get a overclock module??
Look in my signature dude.....
I have used Froyobread since v12 and i loved it, until GingerDX arrived. I would give it a try if i was you as its from Doixanh who created Froyobread and its so fast and smooth, also check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151293
its multiboot and its good, also attached in the post is dualrecovery.zip which will give you both xrecovery and CWM. Have some fun and remember that the bootloader is locked so go mod your phone in the safe knowledge that pc companion will fix any problem i have come across.

Looking for ROM - rock stable, simple

My girlfriend has the X8, while I use the GNex. I have experience in flashing serveral devices. Her X8 is stuck at Android 2.1 (or maybe even 2.2), but it won't set up a google account, which means that she has no access to the play store. Usually I just send her the APKs and install them by hand, but this is no real solution.
So I want to flash a custom rom, but she doesn't know android very well.
Looking for this:
-stable (want to flash it once and leave it there)
-everything has to work (wifi/gps etc)
-not so deep options that will confuse her
-german language
-2.3.x
Are there custom roms, which have the same stock UI? She doesn't know what a drawer is or even the existence of other launchers. However this is not necessary.
MiniCM7-2.2.1 rom and Alfs-CM7 v8a kernel...

Want to sell my phone

Now that the call bug has been squashed (not sure if battery bug has been solved) I want sell it to a friend. I want to put on a Jelly bean rom but which is the most stable rom?
Thanks
You have to question yourself, if your buddy is able to follow the developments and want to flash a new rom and kernel now and then.
yes) i really like djangos 1.3 right now with kowalski kernel. its stable and i haven found a bug in some days heavy usage.
no) i would advice you to install the normal stockrom and leave it without cwm and so on. for a nontech guy it would be the best consideration i think
greetz lumpie
ParanoidAndroid + Kowalski kernel. Running perfectly.

I'd rather avoid LG rom, strictly JB
He cant flash a phone to save his life lol
So 1 vote for Paranoid Android

It's kinda sad

It's sad to watch all these new ROM'S and kernel's here knowing you can't have them because u can't unlock your bootloader....
And ROM'S compactible with stock kernel are sometimes(70% of time)slow.
I've realized that now aftee getting motherboard with date number 12W03
Now I know how it feels...to be limited :'(
Don't think I am complaining because I'm not,I just want to bring back a little development for stock kernel to show us,stock kernel users that we are not forgotten.
With this thread I am asking someone of you developers to make really lightweight, smooth ROM.
I know you are busy with developing for nAa or some other kernel but I think that other stock kernel user, will agree with me.
Sorry for your time and thanks for reading this!
Please don't tell that there are already plenty of good ROM'S for stock kernel user because there are not...no offense....I a just saying that most of them are slow and laggy
GDX ain't slow on stock kernel
I used it though
Except u need some heavy gaming

No battery drain on froyopro! Where did you get that ridiculous statement from?
Mimicm 1.0.2 is great and I used it while I was at stock kernel and it was like eclair, fast, smooth, reliable. Definitely try it!

Well, stock is ungrateful and painful in development. I don't like to re-stock 50 times, root 50 times, put recovery etc. and still don't know what's going on because logcat doesn't even start. So I wouldn't expect so many ROMs.
And hey, it's 2013 adn X8 was released in 2010 so it's like using Celeron 433 MHz now

You are missing something very important mate, X8 come with eclair 2.1, if you are not satisfied with what devs give you then make sth better or don't complain, nobody cares if you feel limited.

Definitely worth a try. But the latest iterations of GingerDX work great. Probably even better when lots of apps are installed. Tho I didn't tried MiniCM6 with the A2SD script I'm using now.

I don't know what you mean by lightweight. GingerDX is pretty standard when it comes to the apps that come with it. Besides anything you don't like can just be uninstalled using Titanium Backup.

[Q] Good, stable and fast rom/kernel?

Hello.. I recently tried popular roms and kernels for Xperia X8.. However some have a huge lag spike, some have too many errors and reboot every time I use one of the features.. I honestly don't know which rom and kernel is good for me without having to reflash it every day trying to get stable rom.. I would appreciate it if you could help me with that. Thanks.

The stability, speed and all things depends on the person..
how do u define stable or fast? which can be only concluded by trying out too many roms suitable for u..
So, answering to your question according to me fast n stable roms which i have used are
1) Xperia Soul engine Cossmoss and Forrox,
2)GingerDXv31b.
3)PrimeHD.
4)Jellybread. ( quite ok)
Try out these roms ..m sure one of these roms will definitly fit into your stability and speed

verry well said sir . . that's right
Stock android 2.1 is the best android for Xperia X8 for daily use ;D
As for me, JBMP is very fast and stable
I suggest to use Optimus Nexus Me v6 with nAa 14 kernel + Pure Performance addon. It's very fast
Practically speaking
There is no stable or best ROM or Kernel
It depends on your usage.
Ne ways
For daily use
Try GB - MiniCM 7, GDX
Jellybean is also nice and stable- JB MINI, MINI CM10
Kernel depends on ROM
