(I figured to post this in Android Development as it wasn't really a fit for any other forum; and made its own thread since multiple ROMs and threads use non-stock kernels.)
I ran into an issue running JAC's OC/UV kernel, as detailed at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806116 . Essentially, whenever any kind of audio was playing, whether through headphones or the speaker, local media (i.e. mp3 player) or remote (i.e., Pandora), at some point the phone would just.. die. Capacitive buttons wouldn't light up, no unlock; music would die; and basically a battery pull was required to turn the phone back on. adb logcat reports nothing - you can see the audio streaming, then the logcat shut off with the phone.
Based on the thread above (and searching the Bionix thread), it seems that a non-stock kernel does this. (There are only a couple of posts out of the thousands on Bionix's thread.) I have not tested KingKlick's kernel, only JAC's; perhaps KK doesn't suffer from this. This issue is independent of overclocking/underclocking the phone (verified by setting JAC kernel to 1000/200, then uninstalling setcpu); Voodoo lagfix (verified by disabling lagfix and running audio for about an hour); and ROM (tested using multiple versions of Franken-Twiz and Hybrid - maybe there's an inherent issue with eugene's mods, but I haven't seen any other posts.)
I suppose this thread serves as a warning/bug report for anyone that might encounter this issue if running a non-stock kernel. The best way to resolve AFAIK is to revert to a stock kernel.
Thank you for posting this! My phone had suffered from this at random times since I started using JAC's kernel. I asked about it in a couple of threads but never got a single reply. Glad to know it's not only me
I'm running the same kernal and about 20 minutes ago running pandora my phone just turned off too and had to pull the battery to restart
Sent from bionix 1.9.1 jacs oc/uv kernel
Had that issue at the Gym the other day, not even on Bionix.
I had similar issues, also with the KK Kernel, its not just JAC's kernel. You don't have to pull the battery either to get out of the freeze, you can hold the power button for several seconds and it does a hard reset.
I have found though that the KK Kernel is less likely to do it if you set your setcpu to 400 min and 1000 max before using pandora. Those settings seems to have worked for me every time..also after setting up pandora make sure to fix permissions with rom manager.
Just a little work around, try it to see if it works for you.

Actually this is a known problem since even the G1.
If you have anything like setCPU, which I do, and you set the idle or lowest speed lower then 400 Mhz the phone will more then likely freeze up when playing music or when going to idle.
I don't remember off the top of my head what causes it to do this when it goes below that certain Mhz, but Im sure I or someone here can dig the old thread up.
Man without this thread I could never get pandora to work with a custom kernal. I setcpu at 400 min and 1000 max and not a single freeze. Thanks so much for posting that tip, you made my day.

Ive had this problem to.... but it was ONLY with Jacs 1.1, I revert every ROM back to his 1.0 and have no problems. Everytime I dont, I get a phone freeze.
I was having this problem with jac's newest kernel so I went back to his first OC/UV, it is a known problem and he's working on it according to his twitter. how I got around this is I used his OC script and got rid of setcpu, from what Quadrant says I'm still running 100/1200. Hope that helps you guys

Interesting. I'll try installing JAC OC/UV/Voodoo again and see if this observation is consistent.

Yeah, I think the problem only exists when you use the OC kernel with setCPU, and setup setCPU under 400Mhz, other wise the kernel with out setCPU works just fine when it goes below 400Mhz.
Once again I don't remember why it does that but it has something to do with setCPU not being able to initialize properly after the phone goes idle and falls below 400Mhz.
Would have to agree. There's a bug somewhere. Not sure if its limited to jacs though.
Currently on masters rom kk. Only problem is pandora.
i had this problem too. kinda disappointed cause the kernels make everything run so much better. so i had to go back to using stock cause i listen to music a lot :/
There's definitely some hardware variability, because I can't recreate this bug. I listen to music all day long (MixZing, Slacker, Pandora) running 1.8 w/ JAC's OC/UV Voodoo. Never seen this.
Likewise with Jacs 1.1, had a couple other weird issues running that specific kernel too, not a single problem when I flashed back to 1.0

i get this same thing. ive had it happen with SetCPU both installed and not. right in the middle of a good song bam phone just shuts up. walk over to my toolbox and sure enough the phone is in a state of being divided by zero and only a battery pull lets it return to the world of the living. not greally a good thing when i have sevearl iphone dorks in the shop and they pop on over to my speakers and they say out of the way lets plug in a REAL phone. makes me want to scream LOL. ****ing iphone >_<
i retort with soooo when you get it out of the box....thats it right? nothing can be changed right? oh look that program sucks....what you cant make your own? ...yea...i thought so. hey look im making a call in the scrap room surrounded by 4ft thick concrete walls.... i got full bars lol. they got nothing in the empty parking lot cuz there holding it wrong LOL

I tried that though, as you can see in the thread I linked to above. Uninstalling SetCPU didn't help..
I think it's hardware.... One of the unlucky ones....
Try with a stock kernel. Jac and kk kernels do uv by default, which is like overclocking in reverse. It has the same possible stability issues.
Hi ppl !
Prabobly i have solved problem with unlock lag. Fix is simple and you dont have flash anything. Just setup nexus wallpaper for me it worked like a charm.
Sent By Reverse Osmosis
It's not a solution.
Setting up a live wallpaper will make your processor run quicker (so it will drain your battery much quicker), the same way the screen unlocks instantly when music is playing.
so there is no solution fot this "problem" yet???
No, there is no solutions as this cannot be thought as a problem. When the screen shuts down, it takes a few seconds for the phone to fall in a deep sleep. This is a built-in feature which helps to save battery when screen is off.
Friends of me just bought this phone and also had this lag problem. So i rooted their galaxys and changed the governor with set cpu from ondemand to performance. Unlock lag reduced from 4 seconds to 1 second, and also after unlock the phone is instantly fast. I know performance governor leads to more power consumption, but we think a phone with 1,4gHz shouldn't be that slow.
I changed lock screen to golocker and lag is now significantly lower. I also use golauncher so it may have affection to golockers' performance. No issues for double locking or battery drain.
Cheers
The solution is simple, turn off your power save mode
doesn't help here....
And again, it's been established already that turning power save off doesn't help.
Placebo effect at most.

I have a same problem, still no solution ?
While the Galaxy S, there was no problem.

Since i use go-locker, in have noticably less lags.
Tapatalked from my Samsung Galaxy S Plus
Strangely enough, Golocker does speed it up a little, it went from 3 to 2 seconds.
But it still lags.
It lower your processer when your phone is idle make it less battery consuming. Unless you root your phone and use app to stop the deep sleep mode and keep phone speed always at 1.4. Otherwise nothing can do I think. Cause the phone need boot up the speed everytime you unlock making it [email protected]@At least you know it help you save.battery

I changed the lowest clocks from 123mhz to 246mhz. Seems more responsive. Used CPU Master (free).

The standard-setting for the minimum clock is at 244mhz. So this probably wont help anyone.
Also my lag is gone by using Go Launcher and Go Lockscreen!!!
Great (Best i think) Launcher anyway

Is the same for me, with go launcher and locker, the lag is gone
No difference ... ='(
Not going against the waking from deep sleep theory, i also always thought this was how it worked.
What puzzles me, however, is how the iphone doesn't seem to suffer from this for some reason and still performs as fast with perfectly acceptable battery time.
But i got it better by changing my lockscreen, that actually helps. Phone needs to load up the lockscreen when you wake it up so a simpler lockscreen will also help with better results by loading faster. You'll notice the screen starts responding faster. I found the most common one, the sliding tab the fastest while the ring one, to be a bit slower. I also found the go lockscreen to be faster than the "ring" one but not as fast as the basic sliding tab.
Btw im using a I9000 with CM7 stable but the "problem" still applies.
Turning off the power save option did help for me.

Hello,
I've been using Cm7 latest KANGs since months, they're all good but there's ALWAYS been problems in every cm7 build that makes me hate this phone when it happens.
The problem is that they happen randomly with no apparent explanation!
problem #1
almost every week it happens that the phone drain battery very fast and gets a little hot. The reason is "suspend" process running wildly in the background.
What is it and why doesn't happen always? Solution : reboot, after it drained half your battery
edit : now "mediascanner" took the place of suspend
problem #2
every 3-4 days if you never reboot the phone it gets to a point where its slow and slightly unreactive. When you surf with Opera you notice a struggle to process data like something is using the CPU, the reality is that nothing is.
The worst part about this is when the phone is in that state and you do something that involves a cpu process you hear a noise form the speakers like an interference it's very difficult to explain. If you happen to listen to music in this state everything that you do makes the music lag like if it restarted every 1/3s of a second, like when you try to playback some video from a source that has a slower reading speed than the video bitrate itself. A jerky playback.
Solution = reboot.
problem #3 every month the phone (even on silent mode) "screams". :| that's right, from the speakers you suddenly hear random "leaks" of loud and high pitch sound things for NO REASON.
"problem #4" the front facing camera is just bad it doesn't adjust to the light with auto exposure compensation. It has very bad banding and digital noise things on the image. I thought it was a driver problem in cm7 but it happens in stock too. This problem didn't happen in the first nightlies of cm7.
Are those bugs reported?
I'm currently in problem 2 and I'll just let it do its thing just to see how funny the battery graphic will look. In 6h runtime I have "suspend" using the cpu for 30minutes and going.
I tried every kernel.
i have the same problem as you with suspend i dont know what it is, but anyways my battery is not that bad after 16 hours is still 58% medium usage.
we can try asking temasek if he has a clue.
I also have problem #3
very strange, happens sometimes even when the phone is on silent, and it's been sitting on my nightstand for 7hours without me using it (plugged in)
it also happens sometimes when it's not plugged in and I'm just browsing the web
(seems to happen more often when viewing video's)
What annoys me most its problem #1 . It's just unacceptable to have something for no reason draining your battery when you phone is sleep mode, even worse when you don't when it will happen!
#1 - I rarely have this issue but it doesn't drain my battery.
#2 - I don't hve this issue
#3 - I don't hve this issue
#4 - I use LG modded camera so no such issue.

Now I have it and I can't get it to go away!! It drains battery at about 10% per hour (without touching the device). What kernel are you using?
Can you link me the camera mod?
Got another for the list!
BBC iplayer !
On both the app and the Web page it works fine through the interface, the intro to your TV program works fine, then you get into the program and the picture is just pixelated rainbow mush! Lol!
Weirdly if you minimize the program and then resize the image it's fine!
What's that all about?
another one:
( I think its with every android version above 2.34)
if there are too many apps moved to sd card (about 50) phone works only till first reboot. once shut down and turned on again, phone keeps on rebooting. only thing that helps is putting sd in pc and delete some .asec-files from .android_secure-folder.
I had #3 before, I think it was around Temasek kang 1x.. After a dozens of flashes, I forgot it ever existed.

There's another one too which is important to save battery life: sometimes the wifi connection doesn't start until you go into the wifi settings. Meaning that if you are within the coverage you won't be connected to the wifi network until you go into wifi settings. This will drain battery because the phone won't turn off the eventual 3G active connection

I tried that but I what I meant is during video calls with skype and gtalk! It shows the correct exposure at the first second that goes into wrong mode.
BTW this phone has the worst ff camera, just bad bad bad quality
haha...the speaker scream at night....
just flash CM7 (Alien Revolution) this morning,
only some minor things found:
1. have to remove the latin.apk manually to against force close
2. can't use the original screen capture (HOME + POWER),
use the option by long press the power button for replacement
3. while playing "Let's golf 3", it got force close
clear the data of the game and it's solved.
4. 2 hrs before, the phone signal suddenly drop and disconnected...
just reboot and see whether it happen again...
Hi Temasek.. will this camera mod work with MIUI roms?

I have another problem on using CM7, it's the HDMI connection. My phone doesn't displayed on 1080p mode, pic quality is awful (my LCD TV is full hd capable).
And when I played a movie and throw it to the LCD TV on landscape mode, it displayed only for couple of seconds and then blackout. My phone continued to play the movie though. This is not happening in portrait mode.
On Optimus 2x stock ROM, it is possible to select hdmi resolution. How to do that in CM7?
Thanks!

no one of the problems here!
working fine and perfect with alienRevolution 1.9.1 ! Best ROM!
Problem #1 happend to me once, i was on ETaNa Kernel 0mb (i dont know wich version) and a Temasek Kang (think it was 61)
Never happend again. Now i am on ETaNa 32mb 18th Feb. and Temasek Kang 66, everything works fine for me.
I think the battery draining issue was just a bad RIL now battery seems as it should be.
I still have problem #2 though and I can't believe I am the only one experiencing it!
I made a mistake because I was powering off the phone at night in the last month but now that I'm keeping it on at night I can say it happens after 1 day of running time.
Basically when you start using it the second day the phone becomes unresponsive, go launcher EX keeps reloading icons very often, it takes sometimes 2-3 secs to open an app after you press on it , Opera keeps getting shutting down if you check another app for 1 second, when you go back you have to wait 6-7secs for it to restart. The situatios stabilizes itself a little when you keep using it (still not that snappy like at boot) but then goes back to the same sluggishness.
Juicedefender shows in the logs that "memory is low" and for how the phone acts it does look like it but I always have 80-100MB left and even if I kill every service running the sluggishness is still there. SO what the hell is causing it? Could this "suspend" be responsible for memory leaks? Again what does this suspend do?
Here's a screenshot for today only after the overnight recharge.
And of course the phone died while I was charging screen or phone wouldn't turn at all, apparently it charged to 56% and then BSOD
Just to make sure, am I the only one where suspend uses all the cpu?
i have also tryed cm7, its nice and stable but a little bug which forced me to change the rom, go launcher always restarts and i have to force close it and whenever i put some movies and images in sd card gallery doesnt updated it and shows old files only, thats y i changed my rom.
Hello. So I already made one thread but didn't get much of replies. If you own LG P920 or not you can still help. I have some questions and problems with phone If you could answer any of these please do it.
Questions: What is the best ROM for O3D. I never used any different roms than stock.
Does ROM make change in GPS accuraccy? (Accuraccy of my GPS is pretty bad sometimes.
Does Rom change the battery life? And If yes count battery life in question 1
In User manual it says you must use only official LG batteries otherwise the phone may explode. Is that true?
Is overclocking safe and does it have any downsides?
What is the difference between Mod and Rom?
Is There Any Way How To Change backlight brightness. It just wastes battery at night
Problems :
Bluetooth doesnt work. I tap it but nothing happens.
TTS doesnt work either .anytime Im trying to get in TTS settings I get a force close
My media volume keeps randomly going to one state. While Im listening to music or even when screen is off. Im using audioguru but in every profile is media volume set to 0.
Phone reboots after turning on Wi-Fi. It works First time after reboot but when I turn it off and then on it reboots.
CPUs second core seems to be offline all the time. I'll post photo taken right after playing a game while CPU is set on 1 ghz . Sometimes I hear something from back of a phone when playing games but Im not sure if Thats it. I dont often get lags when playing games like asphalt 6 so i dont really know.
Another Problem is what I already mentioned. eXtreme battery drain. 2-5 hours depends if im browsing and watching videos or my phone just sits in pocket.
And The last thing not that big deal is that norton antivirus is showing that location service or whatever it is has a malware in it (I 'll post photo)
If you could Answer any of these please do it. Thanks . Sorry for bad english

So I got my nexus 6 last black Friday. I have mainly been running pure nexus since then. My issues with it are many.
Terrible battery life. I'm running greenify, tasker, amplify, and better battery stats. I have improved it somewhat but I would like to know I can get a day out if it. I am not a heavy user at all. I'm at 35% an hour right now but can get it down to 8-11%. The is screen off and not many wakelocks reported. Smh.
It is laggy as hell. Chrome takes a while loading websites, keyboard takes a while coming up and sometimes doesn't come up.
I'm running elite kernal at the moment with interactive governor. I also have xposed installed with a few apps.
Can anyone give me some advice?
ok so i would backup whatever needs backing up, flash back to the latest factory image and then see if the phone acts the same.
If it is still this abomination that you describe then get it replaced/warranty.
Try that report back, good luck im interested in the outcome.
I'd go with Skinpipe's advice. But don't load all those apps back on when you test. I'd bet you have an app gone rogue with wake locks or maybe kernel issues. Anyway with a fresh new factory image - and none of your current apps, you'll know.
Thanks I will try that and report back.

Stock unfortunately runs like crap no matter what I tried the closest I came to Nexus 5 smoothness was stock + Elite kernel with Blu-active CPU governor. battery was still kinda crap though.
If you really want smooth I'd recommend Pure Nexus rom + elite kernel w/ blu active. <-- This is that kind of combo where you actually follow instructions and make a backup of before every update because it's so good.

you do realize that "so good" depends on the user? and your so good can be my terrible. I guess I'm better off, because I can use any custom kernel, change up how the CPU works, and become happy instantly. I'd even recommend the op to learn about governors and schedulers, what they do, and how to adjust them and everything that goes with them. I also use pure nexus BTW, but with despair kernel. despair kernel because its extremely easy to get what you want out if your CPU with it.
Thanks for all the help. I reflashed stock N and ran it for a few days. Now I'm on stock N by rocketpanda and it running 1000x better. Battery life has greatly improved. I get close to a full day now maybe even more but I have only been using it lightly. It is snappier. I put on Nova launcher but I think stock launcher was snappier. I did have to up the min CPU freq because it wasn't waking from screen off correctly. Battery life still good though. I also clean installed all apps and left off a few that I use and will just keep those on my tablet (Bluetooth apps)
One quirk is keyboard popping up slow at times. I disabled the option of letter pop-up but still acts up.
Other issues I think are app/N specific. Google play games won't log into my account. Chrome still loads slow. Bluetooth won't always turn on after turning off.
I will look into governors since it is not as fast as my old note 3. I think there is some room for improvement.
Right now I'm happy though. Don't know how much of a fan I am of preview N since still figuring it out. I have no xposed install which is fine. I am off work next week so may try going back to PN.
