This is a review for the Poetic Keybook Case and Poetic Slimbook Case. Why did I buy 2 cases? I'm a picky person, I want to have the best experience with my Nexus 7. Please no griefing/complaining/"another thread because some dude bought a toy for his nexus." I'm spending my own time so you guys can see about possibly case ideas.

Poetic Keybook first.
View of the back, and instruction manual.
View of the top of the case.
The inside of the case is covered in a microfiber-like leather and feels very good.
Top-down view of the keyboard with the mirrored charging light panel and link button. The keys feel very thin and/or cheap.
I was a bit worried the keys would hit the screen, but they do NOT appear to rub up against the screen. There's about a 1.5 MM clearance.
Charging usb slot and the on/off switch. The keyboard is good for 120 hours work time/130 days standby time.
The keyboard is detachable (for charging reasons I assume) and is held in place by 4 magnets. The keyboard does NOT slide out of place.
Speaker hole without Nexus 7.
Speaker hole WITH Nexus 7, cutouts are in the perfect spot.
The flap for the stand are held down by another magnet, and feels VERY sturdy when erect.
My Nexus 7 dressed up and ready to hit the town!
Pairing was as easy as typing in a passcode.
On a final note there is Android specific keys on the top layer, as well as media keys and volume up/down keys. Very nice.
===============================================================================================
Now for the Poetic Slimbook!
The inside is also covered by the very nice microleather stuff.
My Nexus 7 fits snuggly into the Slimbook.
USB and headphone jack cutouts.
Volume rocker and on/off switch cutouts.
In high profile landscape mode.
On the backside there's an elastic strap so you can hold your Nexus 7. I would have liked this feature more if there was a way to hook the back cover onto the front, but it will do the job. It is way more comfortable than holding the nexus regularly.
View of the backside.
==============================================================================================
So, which case do I prefer?
Keybook positives:
Has a removable keyboard.
Fits together very snuggly.
The stand is very well made.
Made of a tougher leather than the Slimbook.
Negatives:
Keys feel flimsy.
User manual was for an Ipad.
Slimbook: positives.
Very light.
Has wallet-like slots in the cover.
Elastic hand strap.
Negatives:
To stand the case up you have to bend the back piece of leather back and forth, probably can't be good in the long run.
I will use the Slimbook for when I hang out with friends and don't plan on being anywhere where I can sit down and type. For going to a general hipster coffee shop or while I'm home, I'll use the Keybook. Fun fact of the day, I typed this whole review using the Keybook!
So you are happy with this? Looks good, was thinking of getting something like this.
Any major gripes?
Sorry, thanks to the mod who helped me out.

Mistaken post. Ignore
Thanks, I was really going back and forth trying to decide what case to get, your review helped me decide on the slimbook!
Thank hottbill. I've been using an old folding Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard (video of it working if anyone's interested) but this seems much more convenient.
Can you confirm what the weight of the Keybook (including batteries) is please, just by itself without the Nexus 7 or packaging? I can't manage anything too heavy. My current keyboard is just 160g.
They keys seem like they would need to small to fit in the case. If you have bigger hands, do you think it would be hard to type?

I do have big hands, and it took a little bit to get used to it, but it's not that difficult to type on. Only problem is the space bar is slightly off center and I press the space bar with my right thumb.
I just got the poetic keybook. Typing this response on it. The smaller keyboard makes me feel like I'm back on my Timex Sinclair 1000, but overall not too bad. I love that the keyboard can be easily removed if you know you don't need it on a particular day. Even without the keyboard the case is still a little bulky though. Easy access to the port and the camera isn't affected. I would give it 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5.

Bought one yesterday after your review. I was tired of waiting on Senyx to ship the CaseCrown model. Its been delayed twice, now out to the 14th.
I had gotten the Keybook but didn't like it. I kept missing keys and it didn't work well for me overall so I'm sending it back for a refund. I'm going to get a slimbook however as that should work for the time being.
Once these become available I'll probably get one at that time. --> http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-REVOLUTION-Google-Android-Tablet/dp/B008PB4F7K/

Cheers hottbill. As my existing full-size folding keyboard weighs only 160g I think I'll stick with it until I find a keyboard case that weighs less!
Nice, thanks for the breakdown. Definitely helps!
is there any way to order these cases in Canada?

Hi,
You can order them from Amazon, although shipping will take a bit longer. I believe standard shipping is 7-11 days (as opposed to 3-5 days in the USA.)
Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.
I have the poetic slimbook and I love it mostly. i recently got a slightly different poetic slimbook for my wife's kindle fire, which I think has a much nicer texture and look. I wish poetic would make this for the N7.

I reached "Nexus 7 poetic slimbook" and found this yet-to-be-released Snugg case, which looks interesting.

The reason I ask is because when I tried ordering it, it gave me a shipping error, saying the item does not ship to Canada. Is there any way I can fix that, or am I out of luck? ):
Funny how we still manage to want to go back to netbook era with all these accessories. There is a quad-core netbook available, isn't there? But that is a nice case anyway. I just wish more accessories will come to our country also.

I am looking for a case which doesn't cover the bezel and has a stand. I have two ten-one flings for gaming, and I want to be able to use them without removing from the case. any suggestions?
I was hoping speck would make a fit folio for the nexus 7.
I have THIS one waiting until something better comes along. Just covers the 4 corners and a magnetic closure (though probably doesn't act as a "smart" case). Decent for the cost, especially if you have Prime.

I need a case for a Thursday trip and this one is on my short list. Can you tell me a little more about what you like/don't like, I'd really appreciate it.
Since my N7 won't be here until tomorrow I can't comment on fit, but it seems like a decent case for the price. Obviously not real leather, it does look to be amply padded for protection. The slots for adjusting the stand are shorter than the width of the flap that is supposed to fit in, but with the weight of the tablet should still provide enough to hold it in place. The magnetic closure is nice, better than an elastic band to hold it closed unless you drop it. Like I said, nothing special, but it'll work until some nicer cases are available.

I received that same case today. It will do, it's not as nice as the Blurex one I have for my Fire, but it's okay.
Negatives is it has a bigger flap then the blurex. I like a simple book style. But worse is the top corner strap covers the power switch making it difficult to use. I also just noticed the N7 sticks out about 1/8 inch from the bottom.
I can't wait until the magnetic bluerex shows up, ideally with Prime shipping.

Damn that's nice as F lol
i pre-ordered the crowncase since july!!! but the pre-release date have been pushed back from july to aug.. now sept.. got an email from them saying that the "C" logo on the front is stamped backwards, and the front flap puts thetablet to sleep when folded behind the device... so i'm guessing they are fixing the problem yet pushing the pre-release date further? i want that case already!!! i love how it looks and how slim it is.. anything else similiar?
i'm currently using this http://www.amazon.com/CaseCrown-Sta...459337&sr=1-4&keywords=casecrown+bold+nexus+7 LOVING IT!! it's slim and nice.. but want something without the bezel
Can't post links yet, but google or go to amazon and search "EXOTEK Premium Slim-Fit Folio Cover Case With Multi-Angle Stand For Google Nexus 7 Tablet (With Automatic Sleep/Wake Function) (Black)" it's 6.99 with 4.99 shipping, unless you have prime,
I order from eBay for less than $10, US seller:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/221095819899...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3100wt_978
It comes in different colours, it says "Smart Cover" so I would assume a sleep magnet, but even if it doesn't have, it's still not a deal breaker.

I recently purchased a Poetic Slimbook case for my Nexus 7. I got it for $7 from Amazon. It's up to $10 now.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IEGSGU/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
I don't have my camera so I can't take pictures, but the pictures on Amazon do an excellent job of showing it off. The construction seems quite good. There's no cuts or anything in the leather and the stitching is neat. As you can imagine, it adds a bit of weight and some girth to the tablet. I consider that a good thing, because my Nexus 7 seems very well protected. It seems like it could survive a big fall, but I don't intend to test it.
The device goes in easily. You wouldn't think that a leather flap could keep it in, but it's not going anyplace. Nevertheless, it is easy to remove the device from the case if you want to. The lid is held shut by magnets on the top and bottom right. The "smart" cover also turns the device on and off as expected.
I think there's going to be a break-in period before I feel comfortable using it as a stand in the nearly upright position. It's pretty stiff and quite wobbly. It seems to work fine in the lower position (see the Amazon pictures for details/explanation). Since I didn't really intend to use it as a stand much, it's not a big deal for me.
All of the ports and buttons are easily accessible, although it is now a smidge more difficult to press the buttons. The speaker in the back is completely exposed. It does cover the bezel, but the good news is that the cover does not come right up to the edge of the screen itself. There is a little bit of bezel visible. That means that typing, etc., is not impeded in anyway. I like the bezel being covered because I know that there's no way my Nexus 7 would slip out.
On the inside of the cover there are little pockets to put things like business cards, tickets to sporting events, etc. There's a larger pocket behind those where you could put a check, cash, or something like that. There's also an elastic band that you can use to hold it without fear of dropping it. It works well enough, but the case itself isn't slippery, so I'm not sure how much I'd use it. It's nice to have in case I need it.
Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase. I was expecting much less for $7 with free shipping. I thought this might be a stop-gap case until something nicer comes out. As it is, I don't think I'll be in the market for anything else. Now I can stop being paranoid about my kids dropping something on the screen.
Hopefully you don't mind if I also post a review in your thread...
OK, I had originally thought I could go without a cover on the Nexus 7, until I found the Poetic Slimbook cover on Amazon for under $7 shipped. The case has not disappointed at all, but how can you for disappoint for $6.95? The smart cover capabilities work great and are a nice feature (see attached video for a short demonstration). The cover is held in place with magnets that fit firmly, but not too firm, you can hear the magnets snap in the video too. As revmra mentioned, the case adds some weight and girth to the tablet, but compared to previous tablet cases, one being an otterbox, it is really minimally invasive. The leather and stitching seem high quality, as well as the hand strap. All ports, buttons, speaker and camera are open and accessible. The volume rocker and power button are a little tougher to access since the side of the nexus has a curve to it, but with smart cover tech, I can't see myself using them that terrible much. The hand strap works well and the "kickstand" abilities of this case work better than my other leather case that I had for the Kindle Fire. I will echo the sentiment that the case appears to be able to withstand a fall and give protection to the N7. The edges have leather protruding outward, which should cushion the fall if it lands on a side or corner, and the case has a little padding if it falls flat on the front or back.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IEGSGU/ref=ox_ya_os_product
All in all, it is a great value for $6.95 and probably still worth it for $12.95 which it has shot up to now. It will be good for me until something cool comes out, like a case with a backup battery, microSD slot and USB port or something like that...

Are any of you finding the case to be a bit "stiff" when it's brand new?
I just got my case today, and I am finding 2 issues:
(1) the front cover does not sit flat when closed. Specifically, where there is a fold in the leather, it pops out ever so slightly.
(2) the stand function seems a bit flimsy to me. When I put it in on its stand (where the tab is at its most vertical position), I find that the tab isn't holding the flap very well, such that the tablet has a tendency to fall down on the screen.
Does it put tablet to sleep when the cover folded back?

It's a little stiff, yes. The "fold" in the cover is so you can use it as a stand, so it won't lie completely flat. Not a huge deal and probably will get better with use. The tab on the back is VERY stiff on mine (which is probably good), but I think it will work better as a stand over time as well.

Did you read my review? There are magnets that hold the cover closed and a magnet to active the sleep/wake feature, all of which work very nicely.
thanks for the review but i cannot understand how anyone can use a case that covers up the bezel.
not only does it look ugly (IMO), it hinders functionality. it makes it so much more difficult to swipe in from the side.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or beer-holder, as the case may be). That's why I made the specific point about the fact that the bezel is not 100% covered. Every part of the screen is available, plus a small amount of space on the side. I have not found functionality to be limited in any way, even though I was kind of expecting it. With the bezel mostly covered you know the device is not going anywhere.
I do know what you mean, though. I've got a case for my HTC Desire where the bezel is covered. I often found myself taking it out to use it because the case interfered. Having said that, that case saved my bacon more than once when I dropped my phone. Of course, the Nexus has a far more substantial bezel. While I heard some people complaining about that, here is one situation where it is a definite benefit.
I looked at some of the cases that just hold on at the corners. I think I'd be too paranoid to have one like that. To each, their own.

Agreed that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I had an HTC Flyer w/ the Bluerex case. My brother also purchased this Nexus 7 and got the Poetic case that sort of reminds me of the Bluerex, where the tab is held by 6 tabs, but leaves the bezel completely accessible. I'd agree that the case my brother got is a bit more attractive, but I felt like the Slimbook offered a tad bit more protection since it covers the bezel. The design of the slimbook is adequate, in my eyes, plus at $7, I'm not complaining.
It's all a matter of opinion.
I got one similar to this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IEGS9W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 sorta looks the same. Everything the first two poster said is true. My n7 fits perfectly , the fit feel and overall structure of the case is by far more then what I expected for the price. Giving that it also has puts the n7 to sleep when close is just lovely. I have yet to test it out in stand-up mode seems a bit trouble some to do. Bit if that works well it will be great for gaming since it only stands up in landscape mode. Other then that for the price its a great case.. also fast shipping I ordered it this pass sunday and got it yesterday or today (did t check the mail) its winner in my books.
Also it was $9.95 at the time of purchase
I just got a Poetic Slimbook from Amazon. I paid a bit more than some of you guys, but it works a treat. No issues whatsoever with the magnet. It locks the screen when closing the front cover, and it's not so strong that it causes the Nexus 7 to lock when it's folded back.
I'm already making use of the stylus loop. The only thing I think could be better is the angle when it's set up as a stand. It's too high, Otherwise, I couldn't really ask for a better case. The holes are in the right places, it's got card pockets, and it has a stylus loop.
It would be nice if the card pockets featured an integrated bag of holding, but I suppose it's a bit much to ask for magic at that price.
I have it, and I'm really pleased.
Does anybody know how the auto screen lock actually works? It really intrigues me!

I recently picked up the SupCase Slim Fit Leather case for the Nexus 7, and this is my review.
Build Quality: The case is pretty well made. It's not the most well constructed leather case, but it's made well enough. The stitching is alright with a few quirks here and there. It's also not genuine leather if you couldn't already tell. It's like a rubbery and synthetic like material wrapped in a leather wrapping. Despite not being genuine, the leather does look and feel nice.
Cutouts: No issues here really. SupCase did a really nice job with this case, it offers near perfect cutouts for all ports and buttons. I had no issues accessing anything.
Design: The Slim Fit Leather Case is a folio-style case, or book-like if you will. You need to slip your Nexus 7 inside and tuck a flap underneath. The flap is held nicely with velcro so it's very secure. The fit and alignment of the Nexus is also good inside the case. I did notice at times that because there is a frame that surrounds the tablets bezel, it would sometimes hinder accessing things at the top, bottom, and sides of the screen. You just need to sort of work around it, but it is definitely something to keep note of. The case also incorporates a stand. You prop it up by taking the front flap and tucking it underneath the holder on the back of the case. This gives you two stand options: a keyboard typing angle, and an upright viewing angle for videos and other media consumption.
Sleep/Wake: The case has embedded magnets that turn the Nexus 7 on/off. Not ON/OFF literally, but it awakes it and puts it to sleep. The magnet also keeps the front flap closed as well to prevent it from flopping around. The magnets are just strong enough to perform the sleep/wake and keep shut. I have also not noticed the front flap turning the Nexus to sleep when folded all the way back.
Overall, I can highly recommend the SupCase Slim Fit Leather case for the Nexus 7. It offers nice style, protection, precise cutouts, and decent functionality. Moreover, it's only $15!
View my high res pics of the case below. I'd also appreciate it if you can thank me if this review helped you out.

Looks like the same as my CaseCrown Bold (I went with black, on sale at amazon.com for $5.21). The material is what they call PU leather, a faux leather.
I purchased this a while back as my first case. I chose the dark maroon/purple one. I like it, but I think the stand is a little weak; it flops over pretty easily. I think I only paid $12ish so it wasn't a bad choice for my first case, but I'm definitely looking into one that doesn't cover the bezel. Good review!
A lot of cases like that for less.
BTW.. you can have a link to the product without all that extra stuff (like the referral code)

Yea, the stand doesn't work too well when upright. It usually only works well for me on a hard surface.

I like the case as well. However in the tall stand mode (for watching movies, etc.) it can be a bit unstable.

Perfect case for the Nexus 7. I was a bit skeptical at first, I've bought cases for many electronics and they usually end up disappointing. The Nexus fits snugly in the case, like a good set of driving gloves. The case has cutouts for microUSB, microphones, power button, volume rocker, rear speaker, camera, light sensor and headset jack. It adds minor weight to the Nexus. It comes with a magnet on the front cover, which auto wakes and sleeps Nexus. Overall feels like a quality item for the price, recommend to anyone looking for a Nexus case.
I got my in white. Just want to share the pics. It's pretty awesome.
Wow this looks really nice. I Think ill buy this one. Thank you for Review
I hate the design. It covers the edge of the screen and it makes it hard to navigate. And its uncomfortable to hold. Not worth it.
I recently bought a Nexus 7, and then when it became available one of these cases. I normally do not bother to write reviews, but was so pleased by the product and price am glad to do so now. The design is excellent, as is the quality. According to my friend (who knows about these things) it is indeed nicely done leather. It does a very good job of protecting the device, cunningly folds to make a handy stand, and I find all the controls and ports to be completely accessible. Especially considering the price, what's not to love?
It's personal preference I guess, for me I have no problem with navigating or holding the device. Only one con would be the kickstand, you can only stand it in one angle. Other than that this case is perfect for me.

This case is so nice
First off, let me describe what I look for in a case/ sleeve.
First and foremost, I want a premium look and feel, preferably leather, but other materials will do. I paid a large sum of money for this gorgeous tablet, and I would like to put it in a gorgeous case. In my opinion, getting a slim tablet and putting it in a tank like case defeats the purpose of the tablet being thin in the first place.
Typically the premium factor is limited to sleeves. I have not found any high end leather CASES, they're all either pleather, or low quality leather, and look poor on the tablet. Also most leather cases that double as stands look weird, or have too much excess material to secure the tablet to the 'board' of sorts on the back of the case.
Shown here:
http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimbook-Leather-Function-Warranty/dp/B00A6X4048/ref=pd_sim_pc_2
As far as cases go, cases that have a cover, but then fold back to form a weird angled stand like so: http://www.amazon.com/i-Blason-Google-Elastic-Included-Warranty/dp/B009RZPH1G/ref=pd_sim_pc_10
are just weird in my opinion, they look odd, and I don't want that much snapping on and off the corners of the tablet, it'll create ware.
However Sleeves often do not have a clasp, or a securing mechanism, but as far as I can tell, friction will do it's job of keeping the tablet in the case, especially due to the Nexus 10's grippy back.
So far I have found two cases that employ both form, function, and a premium feel.
A sleeve: http://www.dodocase.com/products/durables-sleeve-for-nexus-10
(Although it is neither made of leather, nor does it have a clasp)
and a Case: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimbook-Leather-Function-Warranty/dp/B00A6X4048/ref=pd_sim_pc_2
(Also not leather, but the leather texture will do if realistic enough. At least I don't think it's leather)
I do have one question about the poetic slimbook case I just linked to, would the cover of that stay attached and covered if held upside down via a magnet of sorts, or is it rather flimsy, and just flops around, as a slave to gravity?
To close, I would like to ask a few questions.
Does anyone else have a want for a premium case or sleeve, or am I the only one?
Has anyone found cases or sleeves that are similar to the ones mentioned above (the last two, not the first two)?
Any word on that smart cover that the nexus 10 was unveild with, shown in the video from The Verge Hands on and such.
Also I'd like to mention that I'm really interested in buying a product from http://www.vajacases.com/ however they conveniently do not have a nexus 10 case.
You hit the nail on the head. My thoughts on cases are basically yours. And the Vajacases are really awesome but in my opinion too much premium and therefore too expensive. I think i'll wait for the verge-video-case which hopefully seamlessly attaches to the N10. It can't be too expensive as well. I'm curious when we'll get more information on the same.

SF bags offer some good looking high quality sleeves.
http://www.sfbags.com/products/nexus-cases/nexus-slipcase.php. In this slipcase video, it shows kindle fire slipcase and it shows that even when turned upside down, the kindle won't come out.
they have plenty other choices but it's pre-order for now and start to ship at 11 december. The prices are kinda steep but since you don't care much about price, might as well try it out. Personally, i love the citysleek design.

I've looked through and seen all of the SF bags for the Nexus 10 a while ago, the suede jacket (http://www.sfbags.com/products/nexus-cases/nexus-suedejacket.php) seems to be to my liking. I personally would want something with a little more protection (I don't know how, but I feel like leather would protect it more than suede, despite them being virtually the same material).
The city slicker one is cool, and so is the out back one, but as far as the city slicker and other multipurpose/ travel/ compartmentalized cases go, I already have a North Face Surge bag, so I don't need any more space. I'm looking for a case or sleeve that would protect my tablet INSIDE of my other back, as well as protect it from day to day carrying outside of my backpack, such as if I'm driving to a friend's house, I'd want to case it and throw it on my passenger seat.
I know the previous sentance is a run on, but it's 4:30 am where I am, and I don't care about run on-s and grammar at the moment.

The Nexus 7 case was well reviewed. I'd like a quality case too, but $100+ makes me think twice considering the life of gadgets.
Thanks for the heads up. Looks like it's pre order now and becoming available at the end of the month.
Here is the sfbags.com sleeve with optional pocket for the Nexus 10. Ordered it Friday morning and paid for the FedEx ground delivery and was upgraded to the priority delivery for free and received it Monday morning. This thing is nicely made and it was exactly what I was looking for, tablet goes in snug and has 3 anchors to help to you insert it and remove it from the sleeve. The mesh pocket is a extra feature and I use it to carry my freedompop hotspot and a stylus pen. I am hoping that when the oem cover is release, it will fit without a problem but its a very snug fit.
Only thing I would change would be added a cord at the end to fully enclose the device inside. I paid $32 shipped to me.

I've actually been looking at this case since it appears that the nexus 10 is pretty similar in size to the note 10.1, and this case seems to offer good protection.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nimbus-10-U...1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1355416000&sr=1-1
Anyone know anything about it or have any opinions?
EDIT: On closer inspection it seems the nexus 10 is too wide. Odd, I thought there was a different version of the case for bigger tablets but I can't seem to find it.
I just received an Ultimate Sleeve case from SFBags for my Nexus 10. This is one nice sleeve. It's very sturdy, well-made, and fits the Nexus 10 perfectly. I bought it to protect the tablet while traveling and I think this sleeve will do a far better job than the Case Logic case I bought and returned. I don't care to test it, but the SFBags sleeve has thick padding and the plastic insert sewn into one side should prevent damage for anything short of a drop-kick. I definitely feel a lot better about throwing my Nexus 10 into a backpack or suitcase. It's not cheap but it's worth it if you're looking for quality protection.
SF Bags Slip Case
Received mine yesterday. It is $36 (shipping included) well spent. It fits tight and looks good.
I got the CitySlicker from SF Bags. It's really a quality sleeve/bag. :good: I imagine it will be too big for some, but it's great having space for headphones and a cleaning cloth with the tablet at all times. Also looks and feels high end.
For the price, I sure hope it fits whatever I end up replacing the Nexus 10 with down the road!
I second SF bags. I have their slip case and couldn't be happier.

Purchased a nexus 7 32GB for $175 plus tax ....now need to get a case and a good screen protector. I see some brands
Moko,Bluerex seem to be around $15 while poetic is $9.99. Any recommendations? Reading the reviews I see people complaining about the magnet issue and also i dont know if these cases support 360 degrees or work only in landscape mode?
Hi, I would advise you to take a look here.
My personal recommondation would be a Noreve case. Expensive, but the best in my opinion.
Poetic case from amazon is the best for a smart case. You won't be upset if you get one.

Seen a few.
Get the poetic slimline case. Trust me.
Best bang for your buck.
Saw some guy who dropped his N7 with a poetic slimline and his screen cracked...
Don't drop your things just because they're in a case.
But seriously, it offers complete protection on all sides from scratches and mild bumps, not from concrete...
It functions as a stand, automatically turns your screen on and off, and isn't too expensive.
http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimline-Portfolio-Automatically-Manufacturer/dp/B008NMCPTQ
I have the Portenzo book cover case. Little to no protection on the sides but will protect it in daily use.
I've pretty much had them all. The Poetic was my last case. I recommend them to. Offers a little more protection but cheaply made.... it will fall apart after a few weeks. They have a 3yr warranty and have replaced mine with no questions. Not sure if they still offer that.
I've also owned the Blurex and the TPU cases. All are nice cases but it depends on what you want. I wanted front and back protection with a minimal addition to thickness (Portenzo). If you want something like a smart cover then the Poetic. Basic back protection would be a cheap TPU like a CruizerLite. Coupled with a good screen protector like a Spigen SGP might suffice. The Blurex offered the most protection but was the thickest.

The Blurex was thicker than the Portenzo case?

Poetic Slimline
I have to concur that the poetic slimline case is pretty awesome.
I too am a new Nexus 7 owner, though I didn't get such an amazing price as you. This is actually my first smart device... first touch device in fact (not counting my ipod touch 2nd gen which came free with a family members computer). Android really kicks ass, and the Nexus 7 is a pretty amazing device.
360 rotation case
I thought I would suggest this case to you or anyone new looking for a case. I was looking for a rotatable case that would still provide the desired level of protection. I didn't like how some of the cases required you to remove the bottom corners to fold or, only held the tablet in with a couple of elastic bands. I don't know that it has an official name, I got it on eBay for about $20. It was from the UK so it took a little longer for shipping than it normally would have but well worth it. It came packaged with a stylus and a few screen protectors (But, I always get a zagg for the screen). The features included a sleep/wake cover and an industrious button that attaches the actual device's case and the cover it rotates on instead of a metal ring resting on the back of your tablet as you rotate. I decided on the white one and the stitching looks great. A really good case, and I have had my nexus 7 for almost 7 months now taking it back and forth to college.
Send me a PM if you want the link I'm a new poster otherwise I would post the link in the thread.
Seriously, just get a Noreve case. A bit expensive yes, but you get what you pay for. Offers fantastic protection, smart cover function works beautifully, and it's hand made genuine leather with a ton of colour options. Here's my review for it if you're interested.
thanks to all suggestions, i ended up getting bluerex case as that comes with a screen protector from amazon. Also got the eForCity Micro USB OTG to USB 2.0 Adapter Compatible with Google Nexus 7. However this cable is pretty tight and i fear it might damage the micro usb port (already see some scratches). This cable btw only recognizes a flash drive but not a portable hard drive. Wondering if i should return it.
I have a Portenzo bookcase. Pricey, but I highly recommend it. I don't have another case for comparison, seems much better than the typical case I see on other people's tablets.
^^ seconded. I also have a portenzo. I went with the bookcase for full side/corner protection and aesthetics. love it.
I also have two handmade sleeves from etsy.com for when I want to go "naked."

Strange that no one mentions original ASUS case, which is really excellent quality and practical, beautiful and comes in several different colors! I bought one (not the cheapest here in Czech) and am completely satisfied.
The ASUS case is pretty terrible in my opinion. No sleep/wake function, and the top doesn't latch down securely. Way too expensive for what it has to offer. Much better choices out there for the same price or even cheaper.
