I am positive that I came across a thread in the Skyrocket section that was titled for and provided a tool to port any Skyrocket ROM to ....? (some device that I can't recall). I can't find it now (been searching about 45 mins) but am positive it was there. Anyone know what I am referring to?
My point to the above is that it would seem with the similar hardware that tool could be used (with some modification) to port to the i957. I have a current interest in this as I hope to pick an i957 up soon.
*I came across the tool because I recently got an ATT Note and DT at droidhive ported a Skyrocket rom to it (which was showing before droidhive was hacked). I went looking around to see what was interesting in the skyrocket area here and found the tool. Really wish I would have noted the url.

I have both the skyrocket and the i957. I believe the thread you are referring to was a tool to port T989 (Tmobile) to I727 (ATT) and vice versa. I am also interested in porting skyrocket roms to the i957. I think the difficulty lies in the fact that the i957 only has a honeycomb kernel, and using the skyrocket ICS kernel could cause a brick. I would like to look into it further though, and may inquire within the skyrocket forums later today.
Yeah finally found the hellraiser tool again. Forgot they never released hc source so porting is a pain. Good luck with the other forum. I got my Note the day ics rolled out so maybe i will buy the 957 soon and bring us all some good fortune.

Kernel source for the Honeycomb i957 kernel can be had directly from Samsung's open source release site:

That's right. They were going to release it after ICS. Been that long since I thought about it although I think now only having HC on a tablet I'm buying will keep me up every night. :crying:

Honeycomb is actually pretty sweet on a tablet, and the i957 ICS update from Samsung is currently in test at ATT.
If you want a hacker's tablet, get a tegra-based tab already supported by Cyanogenmod

Thanks for the heads up but I def have done a lot of research. I want the ATT LTE version for the cpu (not a tegra fan). I'm not even on ATT so I will just use it with my vzw Mifi like my Note. I really wish Verizon would get a phone with a decent screen size (phablet). I know the dev community for the i957 is small but will be fine with it at least on ICS with it debloated and deodexed. I don't want honeycomb because I always immed increase the dpi in ics/jb so nothing shows in tablet mode. I can't stand tablet mode and small icons.
*Plus since it's Qualcomm I'm hoping I can reverse the work done getting Bionic to work on GSM and maybe get this puppy and my Note working on Verizon. Maybe not possible but I'm willing to tinker...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297714
EDIT: Unlike GSM the CDMA networks have a database of MEID/ESN numbers that they allow to activate. Maybe I can get away with using my SIM that's already activated in a verizon phone. Part of the trick is to not go through the activation when updating the radio. Who knows...

100% with you on this, I hate having to wear glasses to read crap on my tab. A big part of the reason I got it is so I can read on it and pinch zoom the text bigger, but more than half the apps are unreadable.
I can't wait til you get this working.

Hopefully this means if I can get my Note working on vzw using the reverse qualcomm hack for bionic I can flash the radio to the 8.9 and that would work as well. Already excited about trying this stuff out and don't even have a 8.9 yet.

If at&t note radios work on the 8.9 that just might open the door for a working phone.

If dan-htc has already flashed Note radios on the 8.9 then likely flashing the current Note radio would be a step toward getting working ATT network phone capability on the 8.9. Not sure about the required hardware related pieces that may or may not exist in the 8.9.
For my purposes - There is a firmware hack that gets a qualcomm chipset with only cdma radio firmware to work on a gsm network. I'm hoping the similar qualcomm chipset found in the Note and/or 8.9 currently only with gsm radio firmware can be hacked to work on a cdma network. I only need the hack to allow for data so any additional hardware in the device that may be required for voice won't matter.
So basically I hope to get an ATT Note and/or ATT 8.9 working with a VZW sim card for data.

I'm assuming that by ATT you mean unlocked. Regardless, the Nexus One does not have the necessary hardware to use AT&T's 3G. Aside from this, they are compatible. It is the same phone.
No he means the verison thats comming out to be compatible with AT&T's 3G network
It doesn't seem as though Google released a different set of kernel sources for the AT&T Nexus One, so I would assume that all current ROMs are compatible with the new hardware revision.

Yes, it does now. It's a different model.
So the question remains - are the roms/procedures the same?
i got my att n1 today and the first thing i did was flashed cm 5.0.5 test 2 on it and all i can say its behaving just like the t-mobile one.
im loving the ability to use rogers 3g network since i hate using wifi.
So i'm in the market for a nice 7 inch tablet, and obviously a galaxy tab is going to be a forethought in my mind... I've done some reading on various tablets so far, and what i've read about the tab, it seems there are some versions that have more development on them.
My question is what is the best model of tab to be hunting for? verizon tab, att, sprint? and i guess a model number could be helpful. Is the wifi only version one even worth considering? if so what model?
i really would hate to have to hunt for a carrier specific tab, since those seem to go for ~500 easy, which is way too much for a 7" tablet imo.
thanks for any info on this subject.
Depends which carrier you are on, if you want to use mobile data. T-Mobile is not compatible with at&t and sprint is cdma.
Some nice deals out there if you know what you want and are patient. Mine was under $200

what version is it? and what model?
are you able to update it to later versions (2.3?) and use custom roms?
i dont care about any specific carrier in general, but i would like to be able to connect a tab to an ad-hoc network.
the original galaxy tab model is GT-P1000, it have android 2.3.3, can be upgraded to 2.3.7 trought cm7 or BOCA roms, and theres an android 4.0 port unofficial but very smooth.
ROMS:
MIUI
BOCA
Overcome
CM7
and many others, check the development section.
pd: sorry my english.
My particular tab is a p1000r - tied to Roger's up in Canada. Basically the same as the AT&T model.
Spend some time on the forums and hit up Wikipedia for the differences.

Just curious, does anyone else think a cmda version of the note will come? I've seen rumors of the galaxy journal, but nothing set in stone, just trying to gather some opinions
Sent from my ICS Droid 3!
That was a joke, right? CDMA is sooooo 20th century!
Seriously, in Oz it used to be the canines testicles. With a crap CDMA phone I managed to get a signal from 45 kms away, and that can save your life in the outback. The signal goes in and out, as you'd expect from longwave radio, but it was at least there. Nobody else had had anything for 30 kms or more.
I now have a sat phone as a life-saver, and that is better than CDMA any day.
Looks like Samsung is pushing the note now, what with the Super Bowl commercial, so it'll be a good chance it'll come to Sprint and Verizon. I'll stick with my GSM version.

that's the main reason I stick with stock rom [mine sgh-t879], rooted, and way debloated.
fabulous device really. 2 days of batt life [i turn it off when I sleep], lean, mean, fast, beautiful.
I use wifi exclusively in home home-office and every other place I get a chance, which as everyone knows is an increasingly long list.
the only 'bug' I have at the moment is something sporadically defeating NoLED which I use for notifications, and that Noozozide [a fabulous app] doesn't like something in there... probably the google play player. haven't had time to sort that yet.
I was reading that the tmo wifi app was figured out to work on another android phone(can't remember what one)- they altered the build prop and hacked the apk. Too bad no one is interested in doing this for the ATT note There are so few ATT Notes running on tmobile. Once they are out of contract- another year or so, and they will be moving on to newer phones. Jedi4 worked for me as far as wifi calling- but I have no need at present for the wifi calling feature, but it is great when you need it!
I was looking into the new tmo uncarrier plans and thinking about getting the iphone5 to add to my android collection- but no wifi calling for it. At least not initially, and they are being coy about future plans for it. If I am gonna get a new tmobile phone it should have wifi calling. Am going to europe in the fall and it will come in handy!
I love my note- really do, but there are times I would love a smaller phone to slip into my pocket and go. The Note is huge- at times a great thing, at times a not so great thing. New Iphone will rescue my itunes and make music an easier managed thing on the computer. Doubletwist and air sync just isn't the same. Might have to get my apple hacking tools sharpened!
the sgh-t879 is just fabulous and a bit of a bargain, though the i717 is typically a tad less in pristine condition.
As far as I know samsung T-mo variants have the Wifi calling very solid but I don't know what to expect going international - you obviously need a world phone multi-band.
we have the SII, the "S 4G" and the Note - all deliver the beans well on wifi. The Blaze does also and is the better choice vs. the S 4G, as we've found out.
I understand what you mean about smaller size - you may have to go Nexus but I despise the fixed battery [the life is not great...do not let anyone fool you] and lack of removable storage. if you want to go cheap, get the LG optimus L9... its a great phone to use just out of the box debloated: wifi is excellent. the knock is there's not many hacks for it since LG made it difficult. those can be had for 250 bucks and sold for nearly the same as it gets terrific user reviews. around here [austin tx, san antonio etc] some steals come around on craigslist ... people get those with a contract upgrade for free, then sell on c'list to go buy a note or some other thing. have seen new ones for $175

I just wanted to chime in for a moment. I acquired a att note from eBay a couple of weeks ago and I am running the jedi 4 ROM and WIFI calling is great with no hiccups. It's fast and beautiful. Now mind you I am coming from a gs2 before the jellybean upgrade. In fact the second day my wife had the gs2 was when the update was pushed out. Access LTE on T-Mobile
Hi just wanted to chime in. If T-Mobile has LTE in your area, you can access it by using the stock AT&T Rom and Modem. Just root it and Debloat it. Here's some of the speeds I've been able to get. The only thing, When I'm sitting at my desk at work, I have to switch to a different modem to pick up 3G and HSPA+ (21.6 Mb/S) I will say every test that I did using the stock AT&T modem was higher than any other modem I used.
Everyone seems to be talking about wifi calling.. how well does normal calling work? how is the signal over all? is it worth it to get an AT&T version and try to use the blaze modems instead of getting the T-Mobile version?
Just use jedi leader ics 4.0.4 it has wifi calling and stable...for tmobile version...

Hello to those that came here,
First, I just came from the S4 to the S5 yesterday, got it rooted last night and I'm on OC4. It's an AT&T 900A. I loved my S4 and I absolutely refuse to get the new Galaxy iS6. No replaceable battery? No expandable memory? WTF Sammy!!!! Anyways.....
Ultimately what I'm after is a ROM similar to CM12. From what I gather, CM isn't fully supported for the AT&T S5. They used some extra little tweaks that I really liked, such as a 'reboot to recovery' in the power menu.
Is there anyone here that has used CM and the ROMS for S5? There doesn't seem to be near as many for this device. I am just unfamiliar with them and looking for advice. I'd prefer to stay on Lolli as I'm sure it'll improve, but JB was by far my favorite.
Thanks for any insight!

OC4 on AT&T limits your options on custom roms. @talkingmonkeys has been deving for Kitkat and made an excellent rom called Extreme Dynamic Kat. Looks like he is getting ready to put out something for Lollipop now.

is the starting point for that. Keep a look out for Twi5ted v4 rom , several people have gotten that to work. Read everything you can. Best of luck to you.
Well, that sucks about not being able to use CM.
I guess Samsung doesn't really feel the 'open source' aspect of AOSP fits their needs.
Thanks for the feedback.
I'll keep an eye on those ROMs.

It is not Samsung, it is At&t. You could go to T-Mobile and buy the same exact phone flat out for 600+ bucks, take it to At&t and buy a Sim, and have a phone with an unlocked boot loader free to flash away. Let this phone be the final lesson in "research phones before you buy" and "voice your opinions with your wallet".
