Hi I have an opportunity of buying one of these and understand from elsewhere that: 'All Motorola phones locked to Verizon Wireless (USA) are not supported for unlocking. Do not purchase the unlock service if your DROID 3 is locked to Verzion. '
Which strongly indicates to stay away from it?
The current owner says:
I brought the unlock code but it has already been entered wrong to many times and is now subsidy locked. I have already spent nearly $600 on this phone Is there any way to unlock it?
If there is, can anyone point me to the resource url or give advice thanks vm.
Alistair.
If it is subsidy locked then your only hope is to flash it to Cricket or some other CDMA carrier from the way I understand it.

I have tried 3 different codes even one from verizon and still the phone is locked. The people in verizon told me that they only have one code for my phone and do not know why it is not working. Perhaps the phone has to be in the verizon network when in input the code.I am in Colombia right now and I am trying to use it with movistar. Thanks
Sorry for offtop.
How you taken unlock code from Verizon? I have code for my droid, but this code not from Verizon and not working. And I think code from Verizon will be work.
I guess it was just luck that i got a very helpful rep. I told the that i was abroad, that i pay in full and all that stuff.
Hi.. when i bought my Droid 3 in ebay, it was not unlocked. I asked the seller to ask for de SIM unlock code and verizon gave it to him as good client. This guy saved my life.
I am in Movistar Uruguay, and code worked. No need to use CDMA network to SIM unlock. Phone is superb.
Then I do not know what is wrong with my phone. I did exactly the same but the code does not work. I got the code from Verizon too. when i put it it does not work and it goes to subsidy lock. I guess I tried too many times and now it is in a different type of lock. Anyone knows how to restore it to original. I restored, flashed and nothing still the same.
i am trying to unlock and flash my verizon d3 as well global tech support told me the phone had to b active on there network to unlock there is a code for each meid# and things they do ota on there end also , they told me the phone could not b unlocked out of the country off of there network i am in the midst of flashing my to chinese ver.firmware but im not totaly unlocked i had a glitch flashing and had to restore factory now verizon needs to release again .,or so it seems im tryin to find away around it they only unlock each ten months
The whole problem with unlock codes from verizon is that I bet it's not the sim/network unlock code but the PUK or pin unlock key that's used to unlock the phone after too many invalid attempt but not to unlock the network/simlock. Pretty sure I can get my network unlock for bell for $75 after I've been in contract with them for 3 months and my account is in good standing. Just some idiot rep reading "unlock key" but not the first work and handing it out without really knowing what it's for, I've had it happen on rogers, bell and virgin mobile.
Ihave this same problem i buy an xt862 and a code on moto4unlock.com and dosnt work so i get a code from motorola and la this same that the moto4... So i dont know what to do same one can help me please
Hello
I wanna ask you guys if you know any SIM Unlock tool for my Droid 3 XT862 from Verizon. Firstly, I'm not in US, so for me contact VZ is impossible. I did purchase for the unlock codes from some websites, but non of them work. So my very last choice is praying for any tool that could unlock my phone.
If you know any one, or how to do that, please help me, my hero
Thanks in advance

i used it for my droid 3 and used the guide to get it working with tmobile in the usa but after unlock you will be able to use it anywhere. the guide is only necessary if you want to use it in the usa
the main point is my cell phone isn't unlocked GSM yet. I bought some code on internet, they are all the same code, and it doesn't work with mine
same problem here.
Did you input the code correctly?

Isn't Verizon known to replace the standard Motorola SIM unlock codes with their very own (which forces the user to contact Verizon to get the code, where they would request that the user have an account in good standing for x amount of months before they will give it up?)
This happened to me when I bought a Verizon Droid 2 Global during a visit to the US. No more Verizon phones for me... ever!
I purchased two codes from ebay both works

My understanding is that once user disconnects their phone from Verizon, sometimes Verizon will replace the unlock code with their own code making the code generators to not work unfortunately.
One can put their D3 on Verizon and receive the unlock code (as I understand - so, if you have a friend on Verizon who won't need an unlock code to ask to put your phone on his/her account briefly and request unlock code?). I made sure that the person selling me the phone got the unlock code and unlock the phone BEFORE selling it to me.

I noticed one company offers a more expensive unlock code service beside the standard rate serivce. Not sure if its actually increases you chances or anything, here's the link:http://www.swiftunlock.net/UnlockServices/Motorola.html
EDIT:Here's another one: http://simlock24.pl/simlock/New_Motorola/XT862/
Hello all,
I'm quite aware that sim-unlocking questions are generally frowned upon, however the phone is not under any sort of contract or commitment, and I do live in Canada, so hopefully that should cover the legality of this inquiry.
The issue I'm having is that I won an Xperia Z1 at a Telus press event (hosted for mobile resellers locally). However I am a Rogers customer, and do not wish to switch providers to switch phones. After calling in Telus and requesting an unlock code (traditionally $35), I was told that the phone is not eligible to be unlocked by Telus, since their unlocking policy doesn't include "Prize" phones, or promotional phones of any sort. Apparently it is blacklisted in their unlock code database and there is no unlock code to be purchased from them as a result.
I've attempted two different online unlock code sites, the first of which immediately issued me a refund saying they couldn't locate an unlock code. The other has said they couldn't find the code and are now looking under an international Database but it would take a few days to *possibly* locate the unlock code.
My question to the experts is: Can this phone be unlocked? If there is no code via Telus does that mean that there is no other code elsewhere online that can be generated? Is there other solutions (via rooting, online, elsewhere), or do I have to sell this phone and buy an unlocked one.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you

Thank you! I managed to get it unlocked (using an international code? according to the sim unlocker) but I definitely appreciate the help! Cheers!
Hi
Any advise on unlocking my recently bought Verizon Droid 4? I tried the service from sim-unlock.net and they seem to have troubles doing it, because the device uses CMDA and cannot be unlocked by code.
I am stuck right now and searching for a solution mainly provided unsuccessful stories or questions without answers. I have tried the default 000000 and 123456 and they failed and have only one more try left
Please keep in mind I don't live in the US and calling Verizon can be pretty costly. I've seen a post of someone calling Verizon for hours and never managed to unlock his phone.
Phone bought on ebay from a seller in the US should be unlocked to be used on a GSM network in Europe. I already bought a pre-paid sim card
Just replying to my own post to give an update.
The code that was prompted to enter was not to unlock it from the previous carrier, but the sim unlock code from the pre-paid card.
After unlocking that I could immediately start calling with it. So I assume this Droid is already unlocked... I was totally surprised by that, I was convinced that unlocking was necessary (it was even mentioned by the seller from ebay)
While investigating this I found out you can call to the US very cheap (1 ct / minute) by some services. So I've learned a few useful things
Now my next challenge will be to install cyanogenmod on the Droid

Imho all Droid 4's are GSM unlocked. GSM is what's been used in the EU so it will work just fine.
They are only locked to Verizon in the US (CDMA instead of GSM).
Hey y'all, Verizon Moto E4 Plus (XT1774) owner here. I've seen a couple posts on XDA and other Android forums about bootloader unlocking for Verizon-specific Moto devices relating to subsidy (SIM) unlocking.
As we all know, the XT1774's bootloader is locked, there is no way around that yet. I have seen people mention that subsidy unlocking allowed their bootloader to be unlocked, but from my testing that is not true.
I tried an H20-Wireless sim, and an US Cellular sim; obviously I also got an unlock code. Neither of the sims changed my get_unlock_data, so neither would unlock the bootloader.
Just wanted to disprove any of these claims so no one wastes their time. Thanks.

You are correct. If unlocking your bootloader to customize the device is the goal, you need to steer clear of any Verizon branded devices. ATT, Sprint and a few others will also not allow bootloaders to be unlocked.
I have found that to be safe, purchase the device straight from Motorola as an unlocked device (Any US carrier/international) is the way to go. You will not get a discount like you do when purchasing through a carrier or big store name like Walmart but you will get a device that allows for bootloader unlocking.

I don't know about ATT, but all the Sprint/boost/virgin mobile devices ARE unlockable. It's only the Verizon variant that isn't. This is how it's been for some time.

I agree, but lately, Sprint has stopped support for bootloader unlocking. I read this directly from there site. It may be a little while tool it trickles down to current production devices but beware. And I am taking about Sprint Branded devices, and not devices you bring in on your own.

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess I'll have to start buying retail models. A little more $, but I'm very tired of the cdma data problems on custom ROMs every time there's a new Android version or new device anyway.

I hear ya. Where I live Verizon is there only network that is any good/dependable. As much as I despise BigRed, I have to use it. If I had my way I would go Boost Mobile or any other GSM network carrier. That would open up the doors for my YouTube channel and allow me to test more devices the right way and not just in WiFi. I love my OnePlus5 but can only use it with WiFi. So I can't fully enjoy it. But it would in GSM.
They do make a device that is unlocked for the US Big 4 carriers and that's what I bought. Subsidy unlock to my knowledge does not bootloader unlock your device. If I see a really good Rom come out, I'll look at it, but Motorola did a really terrific job keeping what they did to it "light". At the price I paid for it ($159.99); I might buy another one and store it, though I have read a few threads that indicate that Motorola won't update the device to Oreo.
