[Q] "Prize" Sim Unlock Issues - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm quite aware that sim-unlocking questions are generally frowned upon, however the phone is not under any sort of contract or commitment, and I do live in Canada, so hopefully that should cover the legality of this inquiry.
The issue I'm having is that I won an Xperia Z1 at a Telus press event (hosted for mobile resellers locally). However I am a Rogers customer, and do not wish to switch providers to switch phones. After calling in Telus and requesting an unlock code (traditionally $35), I was told that the phone is not eligible to be unlocked by Telus, since their unlocking policy doesn't include "Prize" phones, or promotional phones of any sort. Apparently it is blacklisted in their unlock code database and there is no unlock code to be purchased from them as a result.
I've attempted two different online unlock code sites, the first of which immediately issued me a refund saying they couldn't locate an unlock code. The other has said they couldn't find the code and are now looking under an international Database but it would take a few days to *possibly* locate the unlock code.
My question to the experts is: Can this phone be unlocked? If there is no code via Telus does that mean that there is no other code elsewhere online that can be generated? Is there other solutions (via rooting, online, elsewhere), or do I have to sell this phone and buy an unlocked one.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you

Thank you! I managed to get it unlocked (using an international code? according to the sim unlocker) but I definitely appreciate the help! Cheers!

Verizon Droid 3 Subsidy Locked

Hi I have an opportunity of buying one of these and understand from elsewhere that: 'All Motorola phones locked to Verizon Wireless (USA) are not supported for unlocking. Do not purchase the unlock service if your DROID 3 is locked to Verzion. '
Which strongly indicates to stay away from it?
The current owner says:
I brought the unlock code but it has already been entered wrong to many times and is now subsidy locked. I have already spent nearly $600 on this phone Is there any way to unlock it?
If there is, can anyone point me to the resource url or give advice thanks vm.
Alistair.
If it is subsidy locked then your only hope is to flash it to Cricket or some other CDMA carrier from the way I understand it.

[Q] Bell Xperia T - unlock

Has anyone been able to successfully unlock the Xperia T locked to Bell?
I have tried with 3 separate online unlock Companies. All three have failed to generate an unlock code. They were all very apologetic and refunded my money but the phone still remains locked...
Any suggestions before I take it in somewhere and have it unlocked via cable and software? This will void the warranty though.
Thanks

Hi,
I have a Rogers Xperia T and also tried two companies that failed, and then found one that succeeded, though it took 4 days to get the code.
http://unlock.canadagsm.ca/ was able to provide the correct code for me. They are more expensive, but if you need help their service is excellent compared to the others I've tried. (I am in no way affiliated with them, to be clear).
PM me if you need more information.
BTW, you can't have this model unlocked with SETool at the moment, if that's what you had in mind by "cable and software".

I saw this on youtube the other day, the person apparently used cellunlocker.net

Maybe give them a shot? According to the video it's about $30?
I used bellunlock.ca. Took three days but worked.

Unlock codes
My provider is MTS, their website says to unlock you just have to swap out your sim card and put in one from another provider, enter the code and you are unlocked (for free). Does this permanently unlock the phone? I know that my provider will unlock it for $50.00, I've followed search links and discovered $45 codes are avail - not worried about price - but what about reliability? This will make the process of flashing much more simple for us if it's been proven.
So after little research I found (unfortunately) the definitive answer I was not hoping for. Apparently sim-unlocking your phone is not going to unlock
your bootloader - noobie idea I had - so it does not get me very far down the road of customizations. Too bad, but I have faith in the creativity of the devs out there.
Buying them beer seems like a good idea.

Please Help!

Purchased a HTC One that appears locked to O2 carrier (unbeknownst to me when I purchased on Ebay). When I inserted my AT&T sim card, I got a message asking me for the SIM unlock code. (not AT&T PUK code). Anyone have any idea how to remedy this situation. Any advice appreciated.

Is it locked to English O2? You can buy these unlock codes online, or wait 3 months and then get the carrier to unlock.
If I were you I would contact ebay and return it and wait for the AT&T model to be released. Someone here may know how to unlock it though, I have no clue.

Are you in the UK? If so buy a Pay as you Go O2 sim card, load it with £15, then fill in the unlock form on the O2 site and it will be unlocked within 3 days.
If you are in the US, then there is nothing much you could do, there might be unofficial ways to unlock the phone but I am not aware of them. Since you purchased from eBay, your best bet would be to return it as wrongly described.
Try one of these solutions:
1) If you have a look at this forum thread, it may help you with your problem
2) Also try this company mobileunlocks if they cannot supply the unlock code they will refund you.
3) Search ebay you will find sellers selling unlock codes on there too

AT&T Moto X sim unlock issue

Hi
I recently bought and at&t moto x from ebay. I live abroad so I needed to unlock it and I've done it for many of my previous phones. However whatever unlock service I try it doesn't seem to work. I've tried ebay, unlock247, cellfservices & Unlockonline. None of them can find the code.
I contacted the seller, who was really nice and said He will refund me if I send it back. However that's really not feasible. He tried contacting At&t directly but they wouldn't do. The reason being the phone was given to his company directly by motorola. They develop software for android and iOS. So at&t said that they can't give the unlock code and we needed to contact motorola directly. But motorola is saying that carriers always provide the code. What do I do in these cases? Any possible way to unlock this? I don't want this to be a $300 brick or ipod :|

We haven't found a sim-unlock 'exploit' yet. As I understand it, AT&T will only sim-unlock devices that have been active on an account for a certain amount of time and meet certain criteria. Moto cannot provide you with the code, that is correct.
I thought the AT&T variant was already sim-unlocked for international use and only locked for domestic use though....
Could you trade it for the XT1053 (T-Mobile variant), which comes SIM-Unlocked?

No at&t is locked internationally as well. The subscriber is in good standing, but like I said the phone was provided by motorola to the seller's company. That's why at&t won't unlock it. What I don't understand is why I can't get the unlock code from the 3rd party services. Any particular one I could try?
So I tried to contact the seller
He said he talked to at&t, but at&t said that they can't provide the code and that he needed to talk to motorola directly. The phone was provided to the sellers company by Motorola for field testing and such. He thought it's a bad idea to contact motorola asking for an unlock. So talked to motorola regarding the phone and they kept saying that the carrier is the one to provide the code. I even called up at&t today and they said the won't do anything unless I provide the IMEI & phone number and SSN.
I live in Bangladesh and I really feel powerless at the moment. I don't want to have a $350 brick :|

Unlock Network/SIM AT&T

Hi,
I have the AT&T model, stock ROM.
I am about to travel abroad. Called to AT&T to unlock. In the past, as long as I have used the phone for 60 days, that's no problem. However, they said the policy changed 18 months ago and they won't unlock the phone for free until the contract matures.
Is there any way to unlock Moto X for free?
Thanks

Free, no. But for somewhere around $10 to $20 you should be able to get it unlocked from any of the online merchants selling "SIM-Unlock" codes.
You will need a NON-AT&T Sim. When you place the NON-AT&T sim in the phone, it will prompt you for the unlock code. You will enter the code provided by the online merchant, and if correct, it will be unlocked and you'll be all set.
Several users have reported success, but a few have reported that the code provided to them did not work. All you can do is try.
WARNING: If you enter an incorrect unlock code too many times, it triggers a LOCK-OUT and the phone will be permanently locked to AT&T and you will never be able to unlock it.
Good Luck
