Ics help just bought a vivid - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I recently bought a HTC Vivid earlier this evening and before that I had a HTC Inspire 4G which I successfully rooted with ace hack tool and AosopX ICS Rom latest BR4. I wanted to upgraded to a dual core phone so I bought the Vivid. Anyways, I manually installed the updated 4.0 ICS w/ HTC Sense 3.6 on the Vivid. I fell in love with the interface ICS on my Inspire 4G which I know is the original ICS interface.
I've looked around the forums and there are too many confusing topics and terminology which I don't understand. Is there an ICS rom as close to the
ICS 4.0 update for the Vivid but just without the sense 3.6 interface?

You're looking for a close-to-AOSP ROM. There are a couple in the Development section (Virtuous Inquisition, and a Senseless ROM) I'd recommend searching google for Vivid ROMs, the development for this device is not centralized at XDA. There are some really good ROMs out there - modded stock ROMs, CM variants, "De-sensed/Senseless" ROMs, etc..
To install any of them, you'll need to unlock the bootloader through HTCDev, flash a custom recovery, manually flash the boot.img, then flash the ROM.

Yeah, I definitely recommend the Virtuous Inquisition ROM. It's as pure to AOSP as you can get I think. I've been using it for a couple weeks now, and I love it. I'll post some screenshots so you can see it.

I would highly recommend contactwajeeh's De-sensed ROM. I have been running for a while now and love it. Here is a link to the ROM. Running it along with kozmikkernel, this rom gives you excellent battery life. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582670

Not a one, and I've been using Virtuous Inquisition for about 3 weeks now. Didn't have any problems, once I flashed the ROM and kernel correctly lol. I had to flash the ROM separately from the kernel, as I am still S-On.. debating S-Offing my Vivid though..

I managed to flash the kozmikkernel. I had a bit of trouble loading the recovery.img on cmd turns out I had to press tab to make it a complete recovery.img.img which was wierd and it work. Flashed it from the sd card. To anyone who has this kernel why won't I able to customize the setting from the system itself? Only way i can customize is to go back to the recovery and flash it again. And on bootloader why does it say its still S-ON? I thought flashing this kernel will S-Off my device or am I wrong? I downloaded the desensed rom and I heard that particular rom is already rooted according to jenkem 110.

No, actually.. S-Offing, is something completely different than rooting. Check out Hasoon2000's S-Off Toolkit, in the development forums. I've been debating to S-Off my Vivid.. haven't decided yet haha

How is that Faux kernel treating you? Experiencing any crashes on certain apps? So far this kozmik kernel is making some apps crash even as simple as text messaging. it will crash it right after sending a text message.

I kid you not.. the Faux kernel I have, has given me no problems at all. It's your basic system functions, it doesn't have like "sweep2wake" like some of the other kernels out there might, but honestly I wouldn't use that function even if I had it. But since I installed it correctly, I haven't seen any issues thus far; first I didn't flash it right so my Wifi wasn't working.. didn't realise I had to do that thru fastboot bc I'm S-On, for like a couple weeks lol. Hope this helps!

Yeah, I had that ROM for awhile too.. the one by Team CodeFire. But I wanted a ROM with the blue AOSP accents, then I found Virtuous Inquisition by cruzin_cruzing.. and I've loved it ever since. It has DSP Manager, which actually in alot of ways, is better the Beats Audio. It gives you more options for sound quality improvement while playing music.

Huh, I never thought of it like that.. maybe I'll try n find a kernel that has that option, one that works with this ROM. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631499
As far as customizing on the system, I haven't been able to do much; most is with the help of SetCPU, for overclocking. Some installers I've seen, like Aroma or something allow for tweaking the kernel or ROM, before it's flashed. But I think, to customize you'll have to flash it..

Its been asked befor, and the threads usually ends up beeing closed because its the same as asking: what color is the prettiest?
You can't answer that becuase its a matter of personal taste and not fact...
And then there is the whole matter about Sense or no Sense, speed or battery life, new features or stablity...
arhd: most stable..
u can try nik's rom: very cool visuals and sense 3.5
rcmix rom is released too try that one too

you are gonna get various answers from people because everyone has different preference/taste. for me, arhd and vu2.39 have been rock solid. it's weird that you're having battery issues with arhd. it's one of the best roms in terms of battery life. there are numerous things you can do to improve battery life. i'm not gonna go into it here since it will take all day and it's been discussed to death. go to the first post in the arhd rom thread and scroll down to the faq section. under the very first question, there are a couple of links to guides that will help you improve battery life.
I'm using CyanogenMod at the moment, but if you want a Sense ROM, I've had great experiences with Nikhil007's Sensation XL.. It was super stable and I got great battery life out of it.
the virtuous team just released their sense 3.5 rom: virtuous affinity. you can find it in the dev section. i've been using it for the last few hours. it's awesome. as expected from the virtuous team.
there are a couple of things missing when comparing to VUv2.39 though...crt animation, extended quicksetting. therefore, my vote for best rom still goes to VUv2.39, only until the virtuous team adds the features i just mentioned to the new rom
Yes, I am a big fan of Virtuous Unity v2.39. I install that, then use ROM Cleaner to scrub off traces of useless HTC stuff, then use OC/UV Beater to underclock (245 Mhz to 998Mhz) and undervolt. My battery drain when idle as reported by Battery Monitor Widget hovers around 19-22mA, which is great! Note that current drain for IncS seems to be reported wrongly using Battery Monitor Widget - we can't get values like 4mA or 6mA compared to other phones like DHD. Cheers!

Going to try the new Virtuous Affinity ROM in a couple of days after seeing what the other users have to say about it. And there's a new ROM from RCMix3D too! So many roms to try.. =)
Actually there is no best ROM...But there are few most famous ROM... like ARHD, CM7, Nik Trinity Sensation XL and bla bla bla...
Is totally depend on personality, some people like sense some people not...
So ask yourself what you need?
Pretty look? Long Battery life? or what....
If you like sense... maybe can test it out Nik ROM... is cool and i am using it, so far stable and smooth, battery life for me is good too...

Ram?quadrant score? CM7

there is a lot that which requires your preference..
I dun think CM7 is very smooth.. just similar to those adjusted sense rom by yourself with suitable kernel.

Personally one of the reason's I bought an HTC is HTC sense, otherwise I would have bought a Samsung or Sony Ericson or something like that. [Q] NonSense ?

Hello everyone,
After getting my Atrix 2 water damaged, I ordered HTC Vivid... Since it has bootloader unlocked I suppose there should be some ROMs without Sense skin.
Do you guys know if there is any fully functioning nonsense ROM ? Preferably ICS...
Yes. Pirate ghost's Rum Float Beta Rom has a no sense option:
http://blog.androidninjas.com/
Unfortunately the one you mentioned is not functional. So at this moment HTC Vivid can not have stock ICS experience....
PG is currently working on Rumfloat Beta4 btw if you are patient enough.

Andre, I think you are confusing "stock" with AOSP. ALL HTC "stock" ROMs will have Sense user interface.

I believe PGs nonsense Rom is nothing close to what you are looking. Basically just stock sense with the trebuchet ics launcher from cm9. You'll have to wait for anything more AOSP than that
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
Off topic: I was really looking for a nonsense rom but I changed my mind after the ics upgrade, the new sense is soo smooth now, I'm impressed. (Part of it may be the memory management and probably the multicore support in ics).
Sent from my HTC Vivid via Tapatalk
Just to clear up the confusion here -
Nonsense/sense stripped/ect: a Rom that has had sense "removed" from it. There will still be traces of sense left behind but that's the price to pay instead of building one from scratch while still having a functioning ROM.
AOSP: a built from scratch ROM. So vanillay its more vanilla then Vanilla.

[Q] What's the best ROM for the Holiday in your opinion?

Additional Question - I have my phone -Unlocked-, rooted and S-ON Is this safe to install any rom?
or should I turn S-OFF? I have CWM 5.5.0.4, but will be upgrading to 4ext soon
With S on, you'll have to flash the boot image before installing the new rom, it's not hard, there's even a program somewhere on this board that easily flashes it for you from you computer. You can also download an app from the play store that should flash it for you too. Or you can flash it the command prompt way. It just makes it a little more involved to change roms.
Now as for which ROM is the best, that's all on what you want. If you want a de-sensed experience, I'd recommend wajee's ROM from code fire. I love it.
Sent from my De-Sensed HTC Vivid using xda app-developers app
I would use the wcx recovery instead of ext or cwm, it seems to work with all Roms without issues. You can find it in the "All in one".
Roms are of a personal preference. It depends on whether you want a de-sensed or Sense and whether the Rom has everything you want and your wants actually work. I would suggest WCX Illuminati for a Sense based Rom and wajhee's de-sensed Rom. You will just have to try them out and see what you like.
You only need to s-off if you wanna flash the kernels in the recovery. Without s-off you will have to flash the kernel with fastboot then flash the Rom in recovery.

[Q] Which roms and kernel should I use

Hello
It's been a while since I've got my htc one and I was waiting for the release of the stock 4.3 firmware before going into the custom world. Unfortunately, it's been quite some times now and I'm pretty tired of waiting.
So which rom should I take as a daily driver.. I'd like to be able to control tv (so I think I need to look into stock based roms?)
I'd also like to put a custom kernel and to be sure there is no problem betwen the rom and the kernel
So I was thinking about Android revolution and elementalx (no **** ahah) or can you suggest some?
is there a big chance that android revolution will be updated to 4.3?
(I'm still on 4.1.2)
Thank you!
Ps. What's s rev-on?
This thread's probably going to get closed because some people here are a little sensitive about people asking for ROM suggestions, but before it does... I LOVE ARHD and Elimentalx kernel lol. They're both super srabel, which on a phone like this with its awesome stock set up is a necessity for me... There's just no incentives for me to flash a custom ROM that's gonna be anything but perfect when stock is so close to perfect itself...
I get great battery life, performance, and stability. So that's my suggestion
And if you're talking about s-on, that means that certain partitions of your internal memory are still locked... You can still flash a custom rom, but you wouldn't be able to update your firmware or anything like that without getting s-off first.

You can update your firmware without S-Off. Android Revolution is stable because it's boring, just like stock. I'd recommend Viper Rom due to the vast customisation options, and it's just as stable. As for the kernel, stock kernel is best for most people. It's the perfect blend between battery and performance. Custom kernels such as ElementalX overclocked to 1.8/9GHz will give better performance but will drain your battery faster.
Everything can be done without S-Off. All S-Off is good for is changing your CID, MID, removing tampered from boot loader, and easily unlocking/locking without wiping anything or alerting HTC to your request of an unlock token.
the best rom is stock and the best kernel is stock. you sound like a man who will end up with a brick so i'd stick with stock

I flashed viper and messed around with it for a couple days and it was just a little too stuttery and I had apps force closing every once in a while... Tried a clean wipe, and still a couple problems.. Nothing huge or intolerable, I just value performance over the colorful theming and fun appearance settings of viper, but that's just my opinion and experience ... Everyone is different.
And I wouldn't worry about bricking... Being stuck on 4.1 sucks lol so if you wanna stay close to stock, arhd with stock kernel is the way to go. As long as you stay s-off and don't mess with your hboot (and always read read read before you do anything) you'll be fine.

I don't mind going with miui or cm10.. but I really love the remote control app ahh
Also, I want to do the s-off thing because.. I'd like to install ubuntu when it will be stable enough ahah
And i'd like to have the s2w function
Oh! I'm also very tired of the touch menu button on the bottom of many app... Dunno if stock have solved this tough.
Thanks again!

I'd also like to put a custom kernel and to be sure there is no problem betwen the rom and the kernel
So I was thinking about Android revolution and elementalx (no **** ahah) or can you suggest some?
is there a big chance that android revolution will be updated to 4.3?
(I'm still on 4.1.2)
Thank you!
Ps. What's s rev-on?

if you want no problems then you have to stick to stock kernels and rom.
android revolution is just another fancy name of a stock rom with minor tweaks Incorporated from other developers (such as APM). so thats the only rom which might fit your needs and has stock kernel too. actually there is nothing which is revolutionary in that rom... lol.
note : i am not a hater of that rom, but there is nothing i like about it too and it did sound funny so i wrote. anyways chill out arhd lovers .

the best rom is stock and the best kernel is stock. you sound like a man who will end up with a brick so i'd stick with stock

I found this extremely funny. Anyways, I suggest getting ARHD with its stock kernel. Personally, I like GE roms but I cannot overclock on 4.3 because elementalx is not out .

Well so I'm like a noob because of my poor skills with english then...
Thanks again!

lol.. and miui .. cm and ubuntu will never be stable.
cm is just for flasholics.. and it might not fit your needs
i doubt miui will ever be stable on this phone and ubuntu is just out of question.
stick with stock, enjoy life and have beers.

yeah ok if the OP REALLY wants to do it and knows what he's getting into, then id recommend ARHD.
i'd recommend S-OFF first, then it gives options later
So Ubuntu touch will never be good on this phone :/ sad news ahah
Okay... I'll stick with stock roms then or arhd... I do like aosp roms too... But since nobody suggested one.. seems like I need to use stock to fully use this phone.. another sad news ahah...
Nofrills vs setcpu?
Anyway.. thank you then..

get S-OFF first, then you can try ARHD 12.3...
and if you want logo2wake then i recommend tbaldens 2.1.5 kernel
I'm surprised my thread isn't closed yet.. but I'm happy since the htc one world is very different from the xperia ahah
and.. well ahah I didn't s-off since the only reason for me to s-off was to get ubuntu someday :/
Anyway, such a big difference in rom size vs the xperia play ahah 150mo for xplay vs 1go o,o
Thank you everyone for your reply
what's for S-OFF ? is it mandatory for installing custom rom ?
what's kernel ? what's the function, sorry for noob, I've read quite a lot threads on xda explaining this, but I don't get it in a simple way ??
still confuse....

[WIP] [ROM} [sense5][4.2.2] [htc one mini port}

Ok. with a few people trying to do this i decided to give it a go.
I HAVE NO DEVICE TO TEST THIS ON.
Flash at your own risk. I am not liable for any
problems that do occure from this rom
i may be able to test these this weekend when the girl comes over. if anyone tests these please let me know what the outcome is.
I made 2 different ports going by 2 different guides. i named these beta 1.001 and beta 1.002
These are made from the HTC first deodex and the M4 one mini deodex.
These are compiled on the Newest September 2013 versions of both. trimmed from 1gb to below 600mb
STOCK htc first kernel
No Root
Debloated at&t apks and some useless files
Htcspeak.apk removed (190mb)
TEST VERSION DOWNLOADS
]beta1.001 removed
Beta1.002 Download this versions boots to the boot animation and stalls at HTC ONE Logo
thanks JMZ for the deodex roms.

cool i tried to port it awhile back with no luck so if one of them worked it would be awesome. i gave my First to my daughter so i would not want to test it and mess up "her" phone also I have her on the latest update cause I had to flash a RUU and did the latest by mistake so it is s-on right now and i have not been able to downgrade. I messed it up trying to port cm 10.1. So another reason i would not want to test till i could downgrade and re-s-off. but i do wish you luck.

chance for cm ROM????
I'll test your sense room tonight!
Any chance at getting a cm port for the first??
Would love latest cm on this phone
I tried the latest beta version of a HTC One Mini port by nlsolja123 yesterday. It seemed to have flashed with no problem, but then it doesn't go past the "One" screen. I would let him know that I tested it since he asked has anyone done so, but I'm unable to since I'm new. Has anyone else tried it besides me?
That was a post in another thread. But it did not specify which one he tried.

i wouldnt think a cm port would be that hard once there is a htc mini cm rom but we would have to start with a 4.1.1 rom for ease.
maybe a htc one xl cm rom would be ported like jmz did the sense rom.
i would like to know what version the people are flashing and the best one i will keep up and remove the other, any one able to get a logcat ?
i am new to all this so any DEV help is much appreciated.
I tried both zips. After installing (I'm S-On) 001, the phone rebooted, then shut off completely. It did this multiple times. I tried 002, it rebooted and went to the HTC One splash screen, but just hung there. I did a hard reboot, went into recovery, wiped everything again and rebooted, but it did the same thing.

Jmz had a post somewhere about the reason he was able to port Sense to the first pretty easily is because even though it looks like stock aosp under FB home it is still HTC and still sense based. I am guessing till the kernel would need to be worked on to port a cm rom. Also in many of the guides i have read on porting roms it says the port and base roms have to be the same android version i bet that would be the problem here. so till we can get a update to 4.2.2 from AT&T there might not be any luck.

In some sense I agree. But, my old HTC one x, had cm4.3 when only the 4.1 was available. And recently 4.2.2 just release this month for it. Going by the specs of the one mini. Everything is identical except the cameras and the batterys. Same processor, and ram size maybe it could be a hboot holding us back. Would be nice if CM picked up a device and set us up a 4.3 Base .
Alright I'm stand here confused..... Why are you trying to port 4.2.2 from HTC Mini.?
For starters you'd have to use HTC Mini kernel source and add HTC First coding on it to have even a chance if booting 4.2.2... Because a 4.1.2 kernel will not boot 4.2.2.
Why don't you port sense 5 4.1.2 to the device, you would hold a higher chance if it booting

Not Working
ROM Not Working on HTC First
stuck on startup
seems kernel problem
Good Luck!
if its a kernel problem. flash jmz's kernel and see if it helps (now that i think of it i doubt it will.)
Then...if you need a good back up...i have one just pm me ill send you the dl link of the stock rom back up rooted
another thing...
HAS ANYONE tried this rom and been able to restore a back up? or has anyone gotten this to work?
EDIT:
By the way...im no rom dev but using my human logic why not do this:
Get the NEXUS rom. like a stock aosp rom (odex or deodexed) and then simply take OUR stock rom, take the drivers from it, (or from the htc one mini which has ALMOST the same hardware) and put those drivers into the nexus rom. Then the kernel? um...as usual that i have no idea how the hek it is made. But still...is this feasible?
