Can I change the kernel on my s5830i to allow me to use custom roms or will it brick my phone ?
If so, what kernels are available & will i need corrisponding wi-fi modules like on the xperia i had.
Thanx in advance
yes u can, but kernel for s5830i only
btw, why you not search on s5830i android development section?
maybe you can find custom kernel on there
There is a kernel available for S5830i, made by Rafael.Baugis. The only custom rom available for this device is the retribution, but is under construction. In S5830i development section you find it.
Thanx guys,i'll check it out

PM me if any help needed!
A few of the links didnt work my friend ?
Just take your time and go through every bit of the threads i can make sure that you will find the best ROM !!
I would say that get Darky's v10.3 EE (ime) and the link is below!
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/rom-cwm-sgs-cappy-darkyrom-xxjvr-10-3.4508/
it is the best rom you can get without OC but if you want to get OC, then there are 2 options but the latter one is preferable when it comes to OC !!
1)Get Semaphore kernel v1.6.x or Galaxian GT version and use Voltage control
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829731) or setcpu or pimpmycpu in Darky's ROM !
2)Get CM7+Glitch Kernel v12 BETA (OC'ing upto 1.7 incl. GPU ) follow the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041532
and one more thing checkout this page for kernel flashing !!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15609632
i think these would be enough to get maximum out your phone!

Where can I get odin from ?
Is there a guide to using odin and rooting anywhere ?
Odin is simple and follow this link for 2.2 Froyo
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ezbase-ezrom-for-android-2-2-install-revert-back/
and same way it is for Ginger bread!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155623
in the above link check the 2.3.4 Odin3 method not the ROM!
just use it for only switchig through ROM's and Android versions but for Kernel flashing get Neldar's SGS flashing tool app from market.
If you are on Jetpack or Darky you can get a custom rom tool from their ROM DEV page or market!
and learn Gooogling the problems out!!
What's stock kernel??And what's latest kernel?I found the words many times in many threads in this forum.Who can help me.Thank you in anvance.
i dont know the correct term but kernel is the thing that kinda complete a rom. u can open about phone under setting in ur phone to see ur current kernel. that is stock kernel.
some roms require certain kernel to enable the rom to works, n some roms can work properly with stock kernel or optional to use with custom kernel.
there are 3 kernels available now for x8, n the latest is nAa v07, however, note that the latest kernel doesnt means that it will provide the best performance. its just depends on the matter of whether the kernel is compatible or not with the rom
Sent from my E15i using xda premium
Kernel is generally drivers in between your rom and your phone hardware..
Stock kernel is the kernel which is installed by default from the manufacture company.
Custom kernels are kernels made by developers to work better of the roms with the hardware..
sorry for bad english
hi there
i have a couple of questions about kernal modules
is it possible to use other kernal modules from different devices on a gnote ?
e.x if i use Samsung Epic 4G's kernal modules, will it work on my Galaxy nte?
if i change the kernal of a rom, will it still work on my Gnote or any different device?
e.x if i change the ics stunner kernal by copying the abyssnote's in stunner pacakge, will it work on my Gnote? or is it omg no way this is binary language and development part?
[dev-part]
I want to understand how the android gigerbread and ics os hardware and software works logically and physically .,.,but how ?
e.x the drivers the boot files the ui everything .,.,what source that you suggest me ?
is it possible to take drivers or system files from linux and re write it then you use it at my gnote ?

If you are rooted then just flash ultimatum ROM .zip file
It has AROMA installer and it will ask you which kernel to install.
If you want to flash kernel separately then you can find the files on Ultimatum ROM page itself.
Glad you replied me bro
Thanks alot for the reply..
Sir
While Flashing Kernels, Should i look into BaseBand or Something related to it. I have DDKQ8. Well this ROM supports this ? How to check that
For installing CM 10.1 or 11, Latest CWM version i required. So for installing CM 7.2 Is CWM 5.2.0.6 is enough ? or i need to upgrade ?
Waiting for ur Helping Hands..

If you are running a Stock rom, root your device and flash CWM5 and then you'll be able to upgrade your firmware
With CWM5 (Stock rom e.g.) you can flash directly CM10.x and viceversa, so:
CMW5.x >>> Stock Roms/CM7.x/CM9./CM10.x
CMW6.x >>> CM11/Omni/Android 4.4.x
Want to know what kernels to be flashed over what ROMs?

Hello... Check development and original development forum for kernel threads. You can flash most of them I guess over any ROM unless specified by the OP.
Some also provide different kernels for different Android versions.
Ex: 6.x, 7.x, 7.1.x
Read the first posts of these threads or use the search function and simply download the proper version for your ROM/Android version.
Some offer some extra features, but overall you can tweak most of them as you want with a kernel manager app: kernel adiutor, Ex kernel manager, etc...
Good luck...
