I have a single crack in the LCD of my streak, and I am looking to buy a screen for it. It is only the LCD that is busted, the top glass is fine. I am also interested if someone has a broken streak I can scavenge parts from. Can anyone help me?

Hi Ruphus,
In the thread below yours, you will find a good, reputable link on finding a replacement LCD. It's a little pricey, but they're getting harder to come by now.
Also, might I suggest opening a thread in the 'want-to-buy' section of the XDA Marketplace? Selling and buying outside the MP is against the Forum Rules, however opening a thread in Want To Buy gets around this nicely, and should see you get far more traffic than in here.
Good luck with the search! :good:

Hey,
Just looking for some advice where I should go for a cheap solution on how to fix my phone. Basically, everything still works great! Apart from the big crack, the screen doesn't seem to have been damaged (eg. All the pixels look fine, touch still works, only glass/plastic panel is cracked)
I'm actually really impressed by how it took such a hard hit and the device works fine, the screen didn't even smash! Basically it nudged in between my car seat where you close the door, didn't realise it fell out my pocket and closed the door (you could imagine it would be a hard hit) and the phone lives.
If I just needed the glass replaced, can it be done DIY? Or should I not bother and give it to a service centre? I got it from 3 but I know they'll probably overcharge me for something like this..
Any suggestions welcome, thanks!
if the damage is only to the exterior screen then you may want to consider getting this:

be carful! the screen from my firlfreidns diamond is broken too and I had ordered one of those touchscreens... but the screen which comes has no "window" for the frontcamera and after disassembling the phone I saw that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame.
Replacement LCD & Digitiser
I recently replaced an lcd and digitiser on a HTC Touch Diamond. I bought the complete screen (lcd & digitiser) as one pre-assembled unit from a guy on Ebay (£34.99). Fits straight into the front of the unit frame. I don't think you can remove just the digitiser because it is stuck onto the LCD, and the LCD itself is very fragile. Disassembly is fairly straight forward if you've got the right tools.
Thanks for all your help guys! I've just been bogged down with work so havn't been able to get back here for awhile.
I've taken some time to look into the webiste and others, decided to just order it off ebay in the end anyways. However, taking note from the previous 2 posts, would I be wasting my time ordering just the digitiser itself? I would assume that's what HerrVorragend also meant by "that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame."
If so, why do they bother selling them online separately? I guess I won't really find an answer, just seems stupid to me. Anyways, guess I'm stuck purchasing both LCD + Digitiser but as a final question, does anyone have any guidelines as how I should replace this myself? I'm very paranoid about this sort of thing because it's only 1 month old, however, I have also replaced an LCD on my old Nokia 6280 before using a step-by-step picture guide online.
Don't think I'd have much luck finding one for this model, hey.. haha.
Once again, thanks!
Double posted, sorry.

If you google for HTC Diamond Service Manual, that will help greatly with assembly and disassembly - there are also a couple of videos on Youtube. From my experience the most tricky part is re-connecting the two flex connectors when you re-install the main board. I use the back of a pair of tweezers to slide underneath the connector carefully. If you are nervous about doing it and happy to cover postage costs, I can replace the LCD for you - PM me for details and I'll see what i can do.

Is there a place where I could buy a black mask for x8 ? ( note, I don't want a external casing for protection or whatever, I want the original black phone mask with black back cover - I was impatient enough to buy a new cellphone so I rushed in and bought a white xperia x8, while I really wanted the black one )
pa sta nema nista kod nas?
Keep an eye on this thread.
Only place I've found a black housing so far is on eketshop. However! I have no idea if the site is a scam or not.
I have ordered one for myself, but it has not shipped yet. I recommend you wait and see if the shop turns out to be fake or not. I'll post in the other thread if I recieve mine. By the looks of it, the shop is either a scam or just very slow.
I really don't want anyone else to waste money if it turns out to be a bad tip.
on ebay
look here (19 usd with free shipping worldwide):
http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-X8-Cover-Case-Housing-Black-/110631685887?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19c2298eff
or just search "xperia x8 black cover case" on ebay.
If you pay with paypal you can make a complaint and then you get your money back. Draw from the experience of me.
Yea, found that some time ago but unfortunately they can't ship to where I am (NZ) so couldn't try it out.
black cover is almost 16$ for X6
I buy a black one cost me 22RMB,it looks no problem
argh...should've warned people on this thread too.
I did get a black housing eventually but the problem discussed in the other thread mentioned that the clear touch screen is glued to the front housing so changing it would be hard without damaging it.
I hope this helps
This must help you guys, the video of disassembly shows that the LCD can be seperated.
Xperia X8 Repair Manual
I found this link in the X8 multi touch thread, do this at your own risk.

Thanks for that but the problem is not with the LCD assembly...
The part list in this manual indicates the 'cover front assy' comes pre-assembled with the touch screen unit (glues together) so I assume they were never designed to be taken apart.
Very useful manual though, thanks.

Checking to see if anyone knows of or has a source (other than eBay) for screen replacements for the focus. I've got a badly cracked screen that I'd like to replace, but samsung direct wants $156 and the cheapest on ebay is $98.xx coming from overseas. Everyone I found via google is in the $120's give or take now as well.
Kindof kicking myself for not picking one up when I had the 10% off ebay coupon and there were US sources at $98.
Just bought 2 screens from a wholesaler. Installed one and its working great. Need sim card replacement tray now. Can't find them anywhere. If anyone has a link please let me know.

I'd like to know where you got the screens too.
www.wholesalegadgetparts.com, US wholesaler, $99.00 bucks, BBB rated etc... I just ordered one.
******** UPDATE, this seller is legit. Fast shipping, and the new digitizer/screen is flawless.
How about some info on disassembly and replacement?
So, if your 2 year old is like mine, he's quite efficient at shattering your phone's screen. SO, I went online and found a replacement screen and set sbout installing it myself. I make no claim at any sort of electrical know-how... Damn it Jim, I'm a med student not an electrician. But I do enjoy my gadgets. Anyway, I went online and found some you-tube videos and successfully changed out the screen! Woo-Hoo! I used a hybrid of the two videos as one of them seemed a little too, much but it had a good rebuild sequence.
The first video has a good description of how to remove the screen (I didn't use the hair dryier and it worked just fine), and the second shows how to put it back. The second video should also be good to show how to replace other thinsg (camera, etc.).

I hope this helps people out there make their own replacements a success!
I have a cracked glass, the LCD and digitizer are fine. I have found someone that sells the outer glass for $16. My question is if I can get the digitizer off the old glass and onto the new one.
I honestly don't want to spend $100 on a screen replacement when I can buy a slightly used one for $150...

On ebay is 12dlls the glass, somebody told me that they fix it in a mall were i am from (Mexico) they heat the screen to disolve the glue but i'm not sure about this. The total of the price should be like 35dlls the replacement.
Hey guys,
I've cracked the screen on my S3 19305T. The buttons and screen actually work perfectly its just the glass screen that is broken. After doing some research I have found multiple sources where people say you can just replace the outer glass screen.
What my question is -
Is the i9300 outer screen the same as the i9305? I am looking at purchasing this but want to make sure its the same for i9305 - I have found a few ebay sellers who just have the glass screen for around $20AUD but need to make sure it fits before purchasing. Any other advice or feedback will be greatly appreciated also.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't know if I need the glass screen with the 'sensor signal ribbon' or without for the i9305T?
Can anyone please confirm?
Not 100% but I do believe they are the same. Doubt you'd need the ribbon unless you cut the original while removing the glass so be careful.
Edit: Remember that you are only replacing the glass. There are no wires or anything connected. The digitizer and LCD are under it.
Hey mpeyrac, I wondered how you got along trying to replace the GS3 glass. I got myself into a similar situation this friday night...
Searching and asking around leads to contradictory advice: someone say the whole front needs replacing (including display) others have mentioned just the lens...
Cheers

I would be 99.999% sure its like the I9300 and i have seen a youtube video of a guy only replacing the glass only but this is harder to do and its a really slow and tedious procedure.
do a youtube search you will see this guy in the states doing it. And yes it is also same screen for the US devices
The info I have from a distributor is that Samsung do NOT supply the glass on it its own so I would be a little cautious as to whether you would actually be getting gorilla glass.
I have also seen horror stories of people tryign to replace the glass and completelly srewing up the display. It is also a nightmare to get off.
I appreciate it is much more costly but I would actually buy the whole screen. In the UK you can get them for about £150 but you just do all the work from the back, move your circuit boards over. The whole screen assembly comes with the metal bezel so if you wanted to you could actually buy the black version.
Also, the 9305 and 9300 are different so make sure you get the 9305 version.

Lol, "cracking the display" while attempting the glass cheap fix is not a problem, you will be replacing whole screen unit anyways if that happens, if you succeed like many people, you save yourself some hundred bucks.
Down to budget and preference!
I have the budget so I would not even consider just replacing the glass, others may not but then if something goes wrong they will not have any choice.
But my main point is that Samsung do not supply just the glass on its own so imho you will probably not be getting gorilla glass.
Sad story but I just cracked my N6 screen, not just the glass but the display itself and I need a replacement screen on the cheap and soon. Does anyone know of a good source?
At this point I'm even willing to purchase a cracked display that still works just to get me by for the moment.
Thanks in advance!
