I'm having this problem for almost a month.
I tried several different ROMs (2.3.5, 2.3.6, 4.0.) With the same result "NO DATA".
I downloaded dozens of apps in an attempt to activate and configure my APN but without success and also tried to manually configure. I tried with 2 different SIM CARD'S that work well on other devices.
Through Wi-Fi everything works fine.
Please help me

Actually, the Droid 3 and the Milestone 3 are quite a bit different. The Droid 3 refers to the XT862, which is a dual mode CDMA/GSM phone, while the Milestone 3 refers to the XT860, which is GSM only. The XT860 is sold under various names in other areas of the world, however it is not called a Droid 3 in any of those places due to copyright issues with the name Droid.

What kind of ROMS have you been installing? (Custom ROMs? or Stock ROMs?)
Almost all the current custom ROMS for this phone are Verizon / DROID3(XT862) friendly. There are things you may have to do to the ROM to get it to accept your APN's (like maybe replacing the ROM's libmoto_ril.so with your stock one?). I put together the steps for the Bell (Canadian) XT860. (Link below). BUT!! I don't know if this will work for your situation... hopefully this helps as a reference.

this link: http://www.ajudandroid.com.br/2012/05/tutorial-restaurar-rom-oficial-do.html
we have 8 different ROMs, all of them are official. Tested with at least four of them.
I tested also with other non-official, ex. ICS CM9
Just to reinforce. Before the problem I had already used several of these ROMS the link above and all worked well.
Before the problem have also used several unofficial ROM and all worked fine as well.

So - right now if you install the "Milestone 3 Retail Brasil SBF" (which sounds like it matches your phone exactly), you are saying that you still will not get data?
I think you should install that SBF, then look at the APN to make sure it has the correct info (the APN should be correct because it's an official SBF). If there is no data still, check:
1) Is your mobile data enabled in the settings? (I know, bad question)
2) Is it possible that you're technically in a "roaming" area? (and roaming data is disabled in settings? I know... another bad question!)
I cant think of anything else... sorry... in my experience, an SBF flash has always fixed everything!
This sounds similar to what I would experience when installing a Custom (verizon/xt862-based) ROM on my XT860. They would ONLY allow APN's that contained a Verizon MNC and MCC. When I would try to put in my Bell or Rogers APN, the MNC and MCC wouldn't match, so when I hit save, it would simply discard (leaving my APN list empty).

This problem is driving me crazy, makes no sense.
Like I said I'm trying with two different carriers. The two sim cards work fine on other devices. Just place and use. A relevant information found here is that the "STATUS" have "mobile network type" = edge "service state" in service = "roaming" and not roaming "mobile network state" alternates between connecting and disconnected. (2 in 2 minutes approximately).
About configuring APN. I tried all manual and automatic (using apps on the two carriers)
I'm used to reinstall the operating system of computers to "solve everything" in smartphones should be the same.
Do you know any way even if doing a "root" I view the LOG this connection APN? would be great.

Maybe the way you named your APN doesn't match the config file?
Try an app called APNBRASIL

Hi,
I'm wondering if you might be able to help me.
I'm currently using a Droid 3 (from Verizon, XT862) in Australia.
I'm assuming it is already GSM unlocked, as I just put my SIM card into it and was able to make and receive phone calls and SMS.
However, I am unable to get any sort of mobile data connection (besides WIFI).
I have tried tweaking the mobile network settings to use GSM/UMTS instead of Global network mode, but when I do, it drops the network signal and asks me if I want to revert to Global network mode. In the global network mode the APN and Operator Selection options are disabled, so there is no way I can actually set up my provider's APN.
Any ideas?
THanks.
Switch to GSM/UTMS.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I managed to switch the preferred network mode to GSM/UMTS.
It's also set to "automatic network selection".
However, when I set my provider's APN (I've done it several times), nothing happens. No connection.
I've enabled the data. I've also tried the "Reset to default" option in APN.
Would this be a radio problem?
I mean, the phone's connecting to the network (I can make and receive calls).
Cheers.

Hey, I'm in Australia (GSM) and I purchased a Motorola Droid 3 (XT862) from America a few months ago.
Should I have bought the XT860 (GSM version)?
I was with Optus but because they don't support the 850mhz network I switched to Vodafone because they had it. So now I atleast have data working on my phone after those months of not having it, but vodafone sucks, especially on this phone (text messages sometimes don't send/signal cuts out all the time) but the 3G is very good.
The phone I previously had before the Droid 3 was a HTC Tmobile G2 which I had also bought from America, and everything worked perfectly.
If I buy the XT860 will it fix everything?
On the Motorola website it says the XT862 and XT860 have the same networks... but the XT680 is supposed to be used on GSM, so would it work fine?
Sorry if I confused anyone, I'm really baked.
Thanks in advance for anyone trying to help
Maybe you could try the T-MOBILE AT&T hack?

i have XT 862, on GSM and it works perfectly. More than that, I use also vodafone
The xt860 (and xt883) would not be any better; all they (along with the xt862) support UTMS 850/1900/2100mHz. Thus, you probably didn't get a lot of 3G on the Optus network (which uses 900/2100mHz). The main Vodafone 3G network in Aus is 900/2100mHz, but they are in the process of rolling out an 850mHz network.
Telstra Next-G uses 850mHz (and they have 2100mHz as well, but only in cities I believe)
Anyway, in brief: If you're willing to switch to Telstra, you should get great results. If not, Vodafone is the next best option.
I have xt862 on optus in Austraia. I just stay in global mode. I did experiment around with some of the custom roms but found weirdnesses like my calls not coming thru. I went back to stock and now im going to stay on stock until cm9 reaches release. Im not having any issues on stock.
Hope this helps

Just did it, I suppose it improved the situation a tiny bit, but i'm not sure.
I will do some tests on the Telstra network, see if it's better than Vodafone.
Im using the phone in Global mode atm and I'm getting a decent 3-4 bars instead of the 1 or 2 i'd normally get which excites me
And the network type is displaying HSPA.
But I cannot send text messages, everytime, it just says "Text message not sent" which is very annoying. Anyone know anything about this? When I swapped over to Vodafone from Optus I could send texts but after a point it just stopped working...
Anyone know anything about this?
thanks
So does the droid 3 bought from usa connect to data services with optus at all?
How fast is data transfer in "global" mode?
late reply i know, but I'm on TPG [Optus network] in Qld, Aus with the droid 3 XT862.
from memory, all i've done is done the 'hack' to show actual reception, rather than 1 bar. I run the phone on the global setting.
I just ran a speedtest.net check, got an internode server in Sydney. ping 139ms, DL 5241kbps, UL 1202kbps.
OP, when you were with Optus, did you go through your account settings and make sure you had 3G data turned on for your phone, etc? I'm not trying to patronise or anything, but it always helps to start with the basics when fault finding.
Regards,
Hi All,
Im also in Australia, with Vodafone, and am looking at getting myself a Droid 3 as well.
Since the phones aren't released here, what happens about software updates? Im assuming they won't happen via OTA?
Im leaning towards the XT860, rather than the XT862, any particular reason to go for either?
Thanks,

No difference between them but the xt860 has more dedicated roms here. Both are the same phone and just build.prop edits are needed to get the phones up and running in 5 mins. OTA updates will still work anywhere tho if you root and mod your phone don't use use the OTA feature as you will screw your phone.
All you need to do select wcdma/gsm mode and manually put in your service provider APNs to get 3G. Find this on the Voda site.
Best place to find your APN is here:

I managed to get a xt862, but I cant get data working on optus? (live connected)
calls/text works - tried global mode, tried GSM/UMTS mode, tried manually selecting optus 3g network, made sure the data setting was enabled which is actually under "battery & data manager". Already manually input the optus apn.
what am I missing?
Do you have to do the tmobile at&t hack? running everything stock from factory; or will rooting the phone/install ics help?
I have the one bar reception bug which I read on another thread if that makes a difference.
nvm, got it to work, for some reason manually inputting an APN didnt work, had to find the optus site and send it via sms.
Speed isnt too bad.

Droid 4 On Rogers Wireless (Canada) - Incoming "Pay Phone" caller ID Solution
I recently got my XT894, Droid 4 in the mail, and hooked it up to Rogers Wireless in Canada.
When I was receiving phone calls, the built in dialer would tell me that "Pay Phone" is calling, the solution to contact the Rogers Customer Care, and have them remove the "Name Display" option.
Rogers has 2 services for call display:
Name Display (which does a phonebook lookup from Roger's Side)
Call Display (the number of the dialer who is trying to dial you)
Most motorola radios don't actually support these 2 features together, so Blur reads it as "Pay Phone". After contacting Customer Service, have them remove ONLY "Name Display". I restarted my phone then everything started working properly again.
I hope this helps someone!
First off, I wanted to say that I'm on the leak 6.16.206
I also got mobile hotspot working on Rogers (this solution may apply to other rooted users running on different providers).
I added the APN settings as defined originally here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20366961&postcount=2
Name: Rogers Tethering
APN: isp.apn
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
APN type: dun
otherwise, any other fields are showing as <not set> OR None
When I tried to add dun to the apn type, the moto UI told me only providers could add DUN types, so I went into SQLite Editor -> Phone/Messaging Storage -> telephony.db -> carriers -> Located the last APN which I added manually, scrolled over to "type" then long pressed that field, chose "edit field" and added dun. Once completed, I restarted my phone. I now have the stock mobile hotspot app working (I had to also disable the entitlement check earlier) on Rogers!

I can confirm that the Droid 4 works on Rogers. Took a week of fiddling, but it works.
Received the Droid 4 with 2.3.4 installed. Did the over-the-air updates to 4.0.4. Rooted it, installed SafeStrap 3, and installed Olegfusion's CM10/JB ROM (4.1.2), and was off to the races. Shows "E", "3G", and "H" when accessing the Internet.
have you ever try with stock kernel?
I wonder not to update to CM10 right now. I have a problem, it seems to connect, 3G/H letter, bu no tranmition. I have an old jaj, Droid3 working perfectly with same APN records.

LTE on this phone is not compatible with the Rogers network. If you want a Rogers LTE phone, pickup the Motorola RAZR HD. The phone will operate on 3G or 3.5G, although we in Canada consider HSPA+ to be "4G".
LTE can give you rates of up to 100mbps usually gives you about 25-30mbps
HSPA+ can give you rates up to 12-15mbps I usually get 4-5mbps
I hope that helps!
how hard is it to get Droid 4 to work with Canada (Rogers)?
Do u have to have unlock it and then update to ICS, and then you're all set?

The phone comes unlocked, you just have to load up ICS and throw on the Rogers APN (rogers-core-appl1.apn) and you're good. If you want to do some of the advanced features like setting up wireless tethering and stuff along those lines, you'll need root. I created a full Rogers how-to on droidforums.net, you can view it here :

eBay, yes.I got mine as "bad ESN" from a liquidator, it was quite a good deal. Obviously, by now you can find clean ESN versions for below $250.
Anyways, I am on Koodo/Telus. Under Mobile Networks Settings / Network Mode set GSM/UMTS and Select Network must be UTMS only, the default finds GSM which is weird because Telus AFAIK does not even have a GSM network! It has CDMA, HSPA+, LTE even iDEN but not GSM. Before I forced UMTS, phone calls worked more or less but mobile data rarely. Since I forced UMTS I get mobile data everywhere, inside buildings, all that -- I had lots of reception problems with Wind Mobile, Telus is infinitely better.

[SOLVED] DROID 4 Canada SMS/voice only, no data on Rogers/Fido - help!
SOLVED! see below.
Droid 4 from Ebay, $135 or something + shipping. Replacing my string of bad luck with i927's from smartphone_wholesale (aka Cell Phone Forever) on ebay (tho the 1st one they sent was great til i lost it).
SMS/Voice is fine but cannot do any cell data on it. Following all settings on fido's site for APNs the fido-core-appl1.apn doesnt work. Had to manually put it in (APN list was blank). Tried my wife's Roger's sim, it populated the APN list itself (4 of them, all combos of internet w or w/o MMS, and rogers +/- 'internet' in the name). None of them work either (they match what's in the fora here and on the rogers site, rogers-core-appl1.apn etc).
Im a bit of a newb: is my phone not unlocked properly or something? What gives? Radio is set to global or GSM/UMTS (CDMA doenst work of course). What's the solution here?
System version: 98.72.18.XT894.Verizon.en.US
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: CMDA_N_05.25.00R LTEDC_UI_09.1D.00
Kernel: 3.0.8-g473e586
Build #: 9.8.20-72_VZW-18 Feb 8 13:11:57 2013
yes mobile data is on (and roaming set to yes but phone states it's not roaming now)
every time i've added apn's and saved i've rebooted (and rebooted twice with wife's SIM in too, in case settings had to go sim -> phone + reboot, etc). No luck any way ive tried.
Thanks for help.
[UPDATE]
belay that request cadet!
Ok I just removed the wife's sim and put mine in, rebooted, and this sim (fido) doesnt populate the APN list. I was in the middle of inputting settings for it, hadn't finished and a buncha text+ came in and wifi is off (I saw I was on Edge, big blue E on status bar). Then before I could even react I had hit save, and data turned off.
Yep, removing "internet" from the APN 'type' works fine. Leave it blank.
W t f. Maybe someone can explain that shiz to me.
Hi,
i have a verizon droid 3, i live in Argentina and im trying to get the 3g running...
I applied the radio flash described here. 3g is still not working, but now Swype is also not working.
When I try to use it it says something about the license and it doesnt work.
I first tried it with the build.prop with the model=xt883, then changed it to droid3 but still no luck.
Anyone knows how to fix, at least my scrybe issues? And if anyone else can help me with the 3g would be awesome
Thanks!
What exactly is it not doing. And swype is probably another issue entirely.

Huh? You changed the model in build.prop to Droid 3? Pretty sure its supposed to be xt883 in the first place, your supposed to use the build.prop in the thread
And I thought the droid 3 was a global phone anyway, even the verizon version
Swype doesnt work at all, its activated but not working.
I changed the model in the build.prop just to see if this was the problem, but apparently something in the radio.img has broken my swype. Is that possible?
Btw, droid3 isnt global. Here in latin america is known as milestone 3, and apparently verizon's droid 3 is a pain in the ass if you want to use 3g here...

If you are using this device is South America then why are you trying to band unlock it? The band unlock was designed for use with AT&T & T-Mobile inside the US. If you are using outside of the US you do not need to perform this procedure.
You probably should flash your device back to stock, make sure you sim unlock it and setup your APN settings.
After flashing back to stock reboot in recovery(hold x then press and hold power, then volume up & down once you see the android!) and perform a factory data reset. Hopefully this will solve your swype issue as well.

the GSM BANDLOCK is only to prevent the phone to connect to USA networks but in southamerica as long as you have the 850 band it should work! (ATT, TELCEL MX, Others)

(link in my signature if you have/had version xt862 v 5.6.890 or before if you had version 5.7.90X then there are other SBFs that would help)
once in stock change to GSM mode and add APNs if you are on an 850 network it should give 3g and in an 800 (like t-mobile in USA) network should give you edge
also check you are SIM-unlocked (different from band unlocked) so you can detect sims different to verizon.
What a coincidence, I bought my Droid to DevicesNow in eBay haha
When I first received it, it never worked in 3G... I have the APN set up and everything, but still not working...
I'm now using a non-Verizon sim for calls and sms, so the phone is sim-unlocked right?
I'll try applying the sbf, but since it never worked frm the first minute.. I don't think it wil now.
Thanks for your help.

Hello axel.isr,
The Motorola Droid 3 works on 3G Networks HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100. Claro, Personal & Movistar all support 850/1900.
Yes the device is sim unlocked if you are using already for voice and sms. If it wasn't sim unlocked you would be promoted to enter a sim pin code upon powering up the device with your non network sim card installed.
Which device were you using prior to the D3? Do you have a data plan associated with your sim card? Which carrier exactly are you using and what APN settings have you entered into the device?
You can download an app that automatically enters your carriers APN settings for you called tweakker here.
So.. I went back to stock with the sbf, wiped data and everything but still no 3G.
I tried using my sim card in a ZTE N720 and I get 3g connection.
I've tried a lot of apn settings but none of them worked, I also tried Tweake with standard and alternative settigns but still no luck...
Should I have to change the radio, baseband or something? I already have the radio set up to work on GSM auto (prl).
Sent from my DROID3 using xda app-developers app
Maybe you could try the 883 radio and build.prop?
Sent from my xt862 using xda app-developers app
What APN are you using?
Try turning off airplane mode then turning it on again
SuperbigextremeFacepalm for me!
I called my carrier to get the apn setting again, changed it and now I at least get Edge connection
If I want to get 3G instead of Edge is there something I can change in my D3 settings or it has something to do with the 3g coverage in my area?
Btw, thanks a lot to everyone for helping me out. Specially to DevicesNow for my awesome D3, I totally love it <3

Glad to see your up and running.
3G will work when in coverage areas and there isn't anything that would need to be done to enable this.
I followed the instructions on the first post of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406812 but I'm not sure if it has worked or not. Would like to know before trying to activate the phone. I would post on that forum, but because I'm a n00b, it won't let me.
Here is what I have done:
1 - Make sure you are on the stock XT862 ROM, if you aren't flash it via this method found here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4370-sbf-...959-and-56890/

Download link was broken, so found stock ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686911 and flashed the phone OK.
2 - Make sure your phone is rooted, if not download the following and follow the steps found here: http://www.psouza4.com/droid3/

Bad link, so got Super One Click and was able to root the phone with that.
3 - Unlock the phone. This can be accomplished by purchasing the unlock code, and later entering the code upon insertion of a sim card. (T-mobile ATT sim cards will work, but you will get an error saying UNLOCK FAILED, this is NORMAL do not freak out)

Got SIM from Straight Talk and unlock code from Unlock Fusion on eBay. No problems there.
4 - Download the following files and unzip it to your desktop: http://www.mediafire.com/?y1wjw775v8itsx3
5 - Click Start and open cmd.
6 - Type in the following in cmd:
'cd desktop'
'cd fastboot'
'moto-fastboot flash radio radio.img'
ONCE it flashes, then enter:
'moto-fastboot reboot'
Click to collapse
Took me a while to realize I had to be in AP Fastboot mode to make this work! Saw the box and android icon with progress bar, so I think this worked.
7 - Use root explorer to push the build.prop into the system folder
8 - Reboot, select GSM/UMTS in Network Settings.

Did both of these, also set APN settings per ST instructions.
Problem is that I have no service still. Shows grey bars with red crossed circle. I'm hesitant to activate the phone as I think I should be able to see bars even without activation. Or is it normal not to until activation?
did you set phone to gsm/umts? I am currently using a Droid 3 on straight talk and love it, also ,did you get the simm for an unlocked phone or att or tmoble

I have the phone set to GSM/UMTS, but have also tried Global as someone on that thread suggested that might work if GSM doesn't. I specified an unlocked phone when I ordered and got a SIM that was for Unlocked or AT&T.
I guess the real question is, am I supposed to get service bars before activating the phone? I haven't purchased the activation for it yet. However, I think I should be able to dial 611, but it says no network is available.
I tried re-flashing the radio several times and copying build.prop from the zip file into the /system folder. Still getting the no signal icon. Once I got a gray box with a red plus inside, but on reboot it was gone and the no signal icon was back. Shouldn't I get signal even though my phone has not been activated?

I changed it back to the stock build.prop. No signal. Then changed it back to the build.prop that came in the zip file. Still no signal.
I guess what I'm going to have to do is do a factory restore and start all over again.
I wiped all user data and started over. Performed all the steps again, except I didn't have to unlock the phone. Still no service. See attached picture for what I get.
I have gone through the steps several more times, tried a different order (SBF, flash radio, root, build.prop), tried 2 other build.prop files posted on that thread, and even tried a different program to root the phone (motofail-gb). Same results.

Here's a picture of the phone info. Looks like everything is correct. Any idea what I might be doing wrong???
So I'm trying to configure my Droid 3 for net10, and I keep getting stuck at step 6. I enter everything into the terminal and it says "waiting for device." I did some reading and tried "motofastboot -i 0xfce flash radio radio.img" and still get the same result. Is there something I missed? I have root. I haven't changed the ROM so I don't think I would need to reflash with step 1. I got the unlock code from Verizon and after I installed the net10 sim and entered the code it said "unlock successful." I've tried it both with the phone turned on like normal and hold M+power and selected AP Fastboot and neither seems to work
*update* I reinstalled the drivers and the flash was successful. I copied over build.prop into the system folder (overwrote the original) and now I'm stuck with no signal. Added the APN exactly as it is in my wife's phone (which is active on net10) and nothing. Where should I go from here?

SIM is unlocked. When I search for networks, it finds ATT 2G and 3G and Tmobile 2G but won't connect to any of them. I'm reading through the 48 pages of the other thread looking for info. I'm thinking of trying the XT883 stuff outlined on page 18

You HAVE to use the XT883 radio and build.prop, the stock XT862 radio will not work on US GSM networks, Verizon had blocks put in the radio firmware to prevent it from being used on competing networks (such as AT&T). I use the D3 on Straight Talk with an AT&T compat sim, if you need help with the XT883 stuff, let me know.

Also, is the SIM already activated? Else it will NOT be accepted onto the network (it'll show signal strength under 'status' but no bars) it only shows signal bars if registered on the network. Since it 'sees' AT&T and T-Mobile (when you scan networks) I do not think it's a phone/radio problem.

Awesome, so when you decide to activate your sim, it should work fine! Good to hear, also I suggest (if you followed the instructions for data) remove the 'proxy' field. It actually blocks a few apps and whatnot and try to keep data usage around 1~1.5GBs a month. Else you'll get throttled or possibly cut off.

The APN I used for her (and now me) I actually had to piece together from three different ones I found. I don't know why net10 would change what they're telling people to use, but until I set it up like this, it wouldn't send or receive MMS. The current ATT APN on their website doesn't work at all for me. This is what I ended up with that works great
Name: net10
APN: wap.tracfone
Proxy: NA
Port :80
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com (lead by http but new members can't post that)
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: PAP
APN Type: default,mms,supl

Alright, you mentioned you used a china mobile network, first off I suggest flashing the xt883 radio and push in the appropriate build.prop. after loading in the correct apn (double check with your carrier) ensure you have at least default, supl in the apn type.
Ensure data connection (and roaming data) is enabled under battery and data in settings. If your apn requires a user/pass try removing those and rebooting. Also grab the app "Network Signal Info" from the market, from KAIBITS Software, when you open it, should show signal strength and information. Ensure the 'net type' reads edge/umts/hspa etc and not 'unknown' and it should also say enabling data connection if it is trying to enable data. If the edge symbol appears, then disappears and network type says 'unknown' then the carrier is blocking data and you should contact them. I get this situation when roaming on gsm.
If it sticks at connecting to mobile data and says edge on net type, but never connects. Ensure proper apn and if that is correct, try an sbf for a completely clean slate and try again. The stock radio SHOULD work, granted it is an unlocked device. Being as you get talk/sms it should be.
Also, DO NOT modify any libs, all of the libs are for enabling the radio on the xt860 (gsm only version) using xt862 roms.

If you use the xt883 radio on an xt862/droid 3 rom, you have to use a modified build.prop to make it work. If you flash an xt883 rom, I would suggest using the xt883 radio as well.

Use the 906 sbf, last one listed on the site, then root with motofail. Have you tested the sim in an other phone? It connecting for a second, then disconnecting sounds like a carrier end problem. Something else you can try, go into dialer > *#*#4636#*#* > tap phone information > tap menu button > tap enable data connection.
EDIT: Also, do you have any kind of power control programs, such as watchdog, juice defender, etc. Or some kind of security app. They may be disabling your data.
I check the app,I think there is no problem. You said "*#*#4636#*#*......",I have already tried this way,it desn't work. My stock sbf come from that website,906sbf,so I will not re-flash it.
on next Saturday,I will go to another city, and will try the date connnetion.

I try to do what I can, sadly from what I can tell, it should all work. Especially when you mention it connects for a second then disconnects. I am inclined to say that it is on the carrier end and not the phone. Can you test your sim in another phone? Or borrow a friends sim to put in yours?
