How much on screen time do you guys get? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How much on screen time do you guys get with not much running. I mean with the screen on non-stop, without any app on or video playing, just on the home screen.
Does this look like normal battery life to you guys?(wifi is on but i dont have anything synced)
Only last about 3min 30sec before 1% goes down

I usually browse the internet using 3g i get 3 min per 1% with 25% display brightness( about 5 hrs or more, non stop). Alba lrg v4 by xoac 747.

i see so i guess my battery is normal, maybe i was just paranoid about the ics battery because i never actually payed attention to my battery% on GB.

record of five hours on gb and speedmod k2 just browsing
record 4.5 hours on cm9, undervolted, pdroid and supercharged with v6, the crashes bugged me thought, fc fix didnt always work with permissions. Also only browsing. But really light browsing. Heavy then 4 hours.
both with governator ondemand and scheduler deadline, set to 90% cause I dont mind performance.
both ultra clean installs, straight to rom version with no ota/kies updates.
exchange set to push, and 4 accounts
Connectivity : wifi
browser Opera mobile and tapatalk forum client
No screenshots sorry

maybe 3-4 hours is already a good result for on screen time on ics rom..for me
i don't know how to manage to get longer than that with stock battery hehe
i had 3 push email and other chat app running..with auto brigthness and 60% screen filter app
too bad i forgot what ICS Rom that i used on attach screenshot below (sorry my bad english haha)

I once had left my phone with opened docx and the smart app protecter had all docx viewers to be screen ON locked. I guess in v18 of asylum I got around 6 hours.
Auto Brightness just worked fine.

so the battery life gets a little worst at v7.1? or maybe thats with other things running?

I think it impossible to get 8 to 9 hours continious screen on time, please post steps to reproduce and usage of screen
You, and rom maker will be legendary if its true. I however doubt it

It depends really. You'll get more screen on time watching videos than browsing for example. Open a pure black image, set screen to not timeout and brightness at minimum and im pretty sure you'll get a huge screen on time.

Yes that one thing i really want to know, how to manage that with network connection still on whatever is 3G/wifi .. like i said before 3 to 4 hours is the best screen on time i always had

Alba LRG v4 by XAOC 747
Using 3g while browsing the internet untill i consume the 5 hrs, 3g consume more than wifi.
5 hrs using notecore, if i use speedmod it will go up.
25% screen display brightness and also the internet.
No adjustment in cpu speed
No undervolting
No power save

Yea 5 hours is about how much i can get with constant wifi and 2g on with some browsing

the best i can get is only 3 hours :/

[Q] Best Kernel for long battery?

The battery life on my stock ICS LP9 is horrible. I was thinking of rooting it and installing some custom Kernel to improve battery life. Can anyone suggest which kernel is best for battery?

For better battery and stability use SpeedMod 3-3.
kernel and modem combination.
speedmod k3-3 and lb2 modem works fine for me.
This kernel works on Rocket Room V7??
Do you have to root the phone first?
Before applying Speedmod 3.3?
thanks

Yes it works very good on RR v7 tried flashing franco kernel v6 but that gives random reboots v5 eats lot of battery,(i guess due to overclock) so I flashed this kernel so far its going very good.

notecore is stable and give a day long battery and gives you custom bootanimation+15 toggle+call recording and much more.it is double check for emmc brick.
speedmod is superstable and give a good battery life and gives you custom bootanimation+15 toggle+call recording and kills useless things.
NOTE-1. Dont use oc as it will heat up your device, better to go for std.
2. downgrade to pre-rroted gb rom, dont take a risk although they are safe to wipe, but still first downgrade.
Both the kernels give you better battery life
But for me its Notecore
Hello,
I made a lot of tests.
today, here is my config :
samsung ICS DDLPA. rooted, with kernel SpeedMod K3-11.
with stock kernel, I had good battery life.
with SpedMod kernel, I have better battery life.... when Note is sleeping.
I also had installed Lightning launcher. is better or not ? difficult to tell the difference it is slitghly the same.
to be honest, when I read a movie, listen music, go on internet, it use a lot of battery... which seem to be normal.
today, with medium use, I can have 3 days of battery.
with more use of the note, I have 2 days of battery.
Medium use is : no video, New republic (RSS reader) for around 1 hour, several SMS, some phone call, Internet (around 30 minute), one or 2 time google play, 1 hour reading an ebook in the night (black background, white text)
more use : Add Music, more internet, time spend in tweak the parameter of my launcher.
without SpeeMod kernel, I could lose around 15% to 20% of time listed above. no much.
I hope it helps.
Olivier
The latest speedmod is the best kernel for the battery...
I just tried speedmod and while listening to music via bluetooth and playing solitaire, my battery drains 4% per 10 min.
It's this normal?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
bluetooth drains like crazy, as well as playing games, so yeah. Youre better of using normal wire headset.
4% per ten minutes is 24% per hour, so approx 4 hours screen on time is actually pretty good, very good even. Cant believe that with bluetooth on.

Not sure if it had made a difference, but I did removed alot of the stock samsung apps such as samsung app store, samsung push service etc and also changed the modem to XXLRI, which I find is better than XXLRK.

Best rom for Battery?

Hey guys. I only want to ask which rom do you think is the bettest for battery life.
Thanks.

My suggestion would be stock gingerbread with speedmod kernel k2-12, i used to get around 4 days with normal use.
That sounds nice. Do you have heavy use of yout phone? Or only deep sleep all the time?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I use it for playing games, little music, calls and messaging. Sometimes connect to Wi-fi. With the same in ICS i get around 2 days.
okay thank you i´ll try. :fingers-crossed:
to set expectations straight, expect thought about 4.5 hours nonstop usage on gb with speedmod kernel.
4 hours on ics with speedmod
alk stock dont expect more then 3 to 3.5 hours.
you only get 2 days if you dont synch, barely use phone and are in good reception area with data switched off always.
Note general tips which can be found in the 10000plus threads about battery drain and how to analyse deepsleep issues

I don't know whether you like gingerbread roms or not , but till date the rom with which I got maximum battery backup with modeate to heavy usage was CheckRom Revo HD V6. This rom never lags , best battery life , and good speed .
If you are Gingerbread hater and ICS lover , then you can try Rocketrom v7( very good battery life with the included kernel , and would be much better with Speedmod Kernel (latest version) ). And then you have CleaNote V2.30 ( V3.0 has bluetooth glitches but its faster , if you are bluetooth user i would suggest you to stick with V2.30 ) , I personally love CleaNote because it has stock look and very fluidic :good: and as the tagline says 'You dont want any theme forced down to your throat '. KingDroid are good at speed but many have reported few glitches with it , you may try it if you like ( I dont like KingDroid , its sth personal ). If you hate Samsung's bloatware then we have Cassie's XtraLite rom for your rescue :cyclops:. Its a good rom too .
Well finally to end , I use cyanogenmod 9 and i update it everyday and with each update it gets more fluid and responsive, fast , smooth . i just love cyanogenmod9 ( waiting for cm10 ).
ParanoidAndroid are for ppl who love fun , who want to showoff their phone , the ability of their phone , the sweet hybrid interface of their phone , its for geeks :-0 .
Make a choice or try all of them :good::good:

I am using CLASSIC V1+15 toggle with MOD V1 which is ICS 4.0.4, and I also updated kernel to chainfire LRG, which is more stable and smooth, battery life is excellent comparatively to all other ROMs so far.
Which is around 4% drain per hour, I have (facebook, wechat, LINE, mitalk, whatsapp, email, exchange service, maps, mixed chinese input, make your own clock) running and leaving it on idle.
Tony.

For the past 2 years of beeing a S galaxy user, I've quite looked for best battery life at top performance. Most of the time, battery life is no longer measured in "days" of usage , like we used to do with our Nokia phones. Nowadays, you ten to look at display (screen on) time , CPU profiles, and also connectivity patterns.
You can think of battery life as a factor of the above mentioned, however I think that display time is the most important parameter related to battery life. CPU profiles, connectivity, tend to work only when you have your screen on, and from my experience, you tend not to extend your usage time by more than 10-20%.
So as a conclusion, I did not expect a specific rom / kernel configuration to offer more "screen on" time but to offer a more faster way to do my tasks therefore I did more tasks in almost the same display time.
At the end of the day, it is more important how you USE your device rather than finding a "magical" combination that will increase your battery life.
KID + SpeedMod
+1 for GB (i was using checkrom but i'm sure any gb rom will give similar effects) with Speedmod.
If you make setcpu to 200mhz on screen off, i find it uses almost no power at all when it's on standby.
Like it was on 77% when i went to bed.
Woke up in the morning and it was on 78% (i was like lolwut).
Yay for setcpu.
But seriously though, any GB rom will give you considerably more battery life than any ics rom.
ROM
The best ROM for a battery-HALF ILLUSION and placed on the scale smartas governor.
Try and tell me your impressions.

Alternatively you could take the overclocked NoteCore kernel and underclock it.
The kernel is undervolted, so disabling higher processor frequencies will give you the benefits of undervolting and the benefits of underclocking.
I.e. low power consumption and low temperature.

Its not a 4.0.4 LRK issue. I was running a rooted stock build and installed NoteCore kernel without any issues. When I flashed Rocket V10 it was only then that the battery life became crippling. Shame, I love Rocket and the tweaks but guess I'll go back to stock!

Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Take a look at the NoteCore thread in the development section for the undervolt details.
The overclocked kernel is undervolted.
Install the overclocked kernel then use something like Tegrak to limit the processor frequency to 1400 or 1200 then you will get the reduced battery drain of using lower voltages and lower frequencies on your processor.
Don't change the undervolting set in the overclocked kernel add this had been optimised.

I don't think it's the kernel's fault for the battery drain.. I think it's the modem..
I have been using notecore with all the touchwiz roms no battery problems at all
RR 10 with NoteCore 13
Just installed NoteCore 13 8hr ago, and plug the power cable for charging. Still plugged now, but the SpyCPU report shows that during the past 8hr, the phone didn't go into deep sleep (while I was ) , but it stays at 100Hz.
Will unplug now and go to work for a day. See if I can get a usage report after work.

Yep, definitely faced the same problem, which was the reason I switched to Classic Rom V4 (because of the newest firmware) but actually, though battery life is better, it is still worse than with AlBA v4...I haven't been able to determine whats behind it...

2nd of RR10 with NoteCore 13. The screen-on drainage improved. I read my whole travel time (around 1.5hr) on newspaper via 3G signal, and the battery went from 100% to 81-82%, which is acceptable for me.
Again, Deep sleep works perfectly.
I left this good rom because of this, deep sleep ok, but when the screen is on, too heavy battery drain. same with 2 kernels, should be another reason.

I tried with notecore and speedmod. I have used RR10 about 3 days to have several battery cycles. but I felt a big battery drain when using the note, even at low brightness, with nothing strange in CPUspy or BetterBatteryStats.
so I switched to JB liquid. Yesterday night. I would not say it is better for the moment to be honest. New rom, new kernel, not even a beta, so hard to compare, but you are right I feel the same today: high drain with screen on.
(but whatever the battery drain, with palm rejection available on CM9/10, I will switch again to a sammy rom)
I really cant seem to find a way to lower the screen on battery drain , its ,horrible ,
been on latest std notecore and speedmod , and with both i cant seem to get more than 2:00 - 2:30 hours of screen on time & basic use (in total of 10 - 12 hours ) , deep sleep is perfectly fine with 1% loss per hour (sometimes even less !!) , but with the screen on , battery just goes bursting -1% per minute........
we do need our devices to be used , not rested on deepsleep the whole time , otherwise this defies the whole concept of a "smartphone"....
on GB it was very good ,it got worse when Samsung introduced ICS (but was manageable) , but now on 4.0.4 , its just horrible and unacceptable!!! dunno what kind of testing Samsung does before rolling out an update...
sorry for the whole rant and rage post in there , had to speak it out cos im struggling here..
would be highly appreciated if someone can help or a suggest a 4.0.4 rom with a "reasonable" screen on drain... im even considering going back to RRv7 (4.0.3) cos as far as i remember i was getting good battery out of it (deep sleeping and screen on was great there)
cheers.

i'm using 1800 mugen power battery. it's better on about 20/30 % and you can really see that. so if you want to buy new battery - better buy this one than original. i'm working with it for half of a year n everything is fine.
about your battery - yes, it can go in that way and its normal for our dev.

Mine is about the same as yours, 100% at sleep and 88(at times it's 87 or 86) or so when I wake up. But I think I slept for about 10h

A tip is to disable sweep2wake if you have it enabled. it consumes a lot battery. Since I disabled it yesterday my battery gained a couple of hours battery life.

Imo it's just placebo effect. I actually think that they waste battery than save.
About battery saving apps:
Some might help save some of your battery, like Juice Defender, but about 100% of the stuff that an app does is something you can do for yourself.
Like dim the screen when you don't need 100% brightness, turn off data and use only GSM when you don't need to use data (and if 3G has better reception it might be worth staying on 3G though, at least in my world a better reception would mean a little bit better battery than if you changed to the network mode with worse reception) and when you don't need WiFi - you turn it off.
Using apps to kill other services and apps are not a good idea either, since some apps will only restart and restart and restart while the task killer will keep killing = both apps will drain your battery.
And by turning off both WiFi and data and the apps are well designed, they should not try to look for updates and such if there are no available internet connections.
And, by undervolting you gain more than using different apps and such and if you then learn how to set up your device in the best way for battery you will get longer battery life.
If I don't use my phone so often, I can get about 2 days with 3G/GSM + WiFi turned on all the time and mobile data connection turned on all the time. If I use it a lot I still get long enough battery time to make a full day, usually I need to charge my phone every 18-24 hours when I use it to check mail, send some texts and read news (and XDA, as the addicted person I am).
Now, I just hope that I haven't f*cked anything up - I'm just too lazy to read it through.

I bought myself a Nexus 7 about a month ago to satisfy the cravings for that Jellybean goodness. After trying several ICS/JB roms on my IncS over the past year, I decided to revert back to the CM7 Nightlies. Much to my surprise it's almost as if I forgot how blazingly fast Gingerbread was.
Given how i use my IncS on a daily basis, I seem to be averaging around 34-36 hours before it hits below 5%. It really only gets used for calls, texts and wifi tethering to my N7.

I used to average 30% battery drain per day with light use with stock GB rom and kernal, it has upped to approx 50% per day with stock ICS rom, with lOst profit's overclock kernal running at 1400 wake and 368 sleep. ( setcpu )
Not bad considering 40% increase in processor speed, but less than 20% increase in battery usage.
Addy
I tried latest cm7 nightlies and it wasn't smooth at all so I reverted back to jellybean cyan x
don't know why you are saying that GB was blazingly fast...
My battery is so bad on the jellybean ROM though!!
So 1 sacrifice for another :S

You must be doing it wrong, I'm on nightlies 146 with Tiamat kernel and this thing is like lightning. Battery lasts forever on moderate use about 36 - 40 hours. Lag is no where to be found.

keep in mind you have to give it a couple of hours , maybe even a day(depending on how much it has to do and your connection etc) Before the rom settles down after flashing. Then you can give your impression of it if it is laggy or not.

Screen on time on our LG 2X..!!

Hello guys and girls.

Anything doing like gaming watching videos using facebook and other apps so we can compare aour screen on times.

i was always around 3h screen on
had only 2g on.
but when i was at home with wifi on, was some more than 3h
but the phone was already 1.5 years old when i go it. must now be 2.5years old. never changed battery (maybe because of that i had bad battery..)
now passed to the lg optimus l9 get every day 4h screen on time, great standby time.
ow btw i'm sending text messages hole day with go sms. (browsing the web is more battery friendly..)
Flashed PA ver. 8. and the battery life improved greatly.
Now i get about 3.15 hours with screen on an improvement of 50% over the cm10 unofficial of pengus.
Usage:Facebook Tapatalk browsing music little gps reading books etc..

Lol.that is placebo or user app related, you are using same kernel on both roms and only maybe few little batt. tweaks in tony's rom which don't make that much difference
Probably you had app battery drain couse there should be verry slight difference between this rom's in terms of battery usage
I have tested both, and the drain for me is the same...

Definitely NOT a placebo...
Just the same apps with battery stats checking out for an app that drains more on both roms and nothing special found.
For sure it wasn't an app issue cause i checked it many times.
How about yours?
