Vapercon 2012 anyone??? - Off-topic

Its going to be in Richmond Va Oct 12-13. Wondering if any "Vapor Heads" here plan on attending. Must be at least 18 of course.

If it's what I think it is I might just have to. I have a birthday not long before then so I certainly have an excuse to.

Its for people who use, and build/sell personal vaporizers. I.e. e cigs. Some people use no nicotine, others have varying strengths of nic in their liquid.
I literally just tried my first batch of 0% nic, 100% VG.
Didn't turn out as good as I really want it but its still pretty awesome. Lmk if you're going.

yeah it should be fun. from what i saw on youtube of last years event, its pretty awesome. they have some give aways and door prizes, and you get to see the faces of teh websites selling all the goodies. im mainly going because i want to hang out with the other vapor nerds like myself.

Thinking about it. I just got home today from Vapexpo in Michigan. It was a blast! From what I hear Vapercon will be better. But for our first big meet like this it was pretty well attended. Vapercon is a lot farther away so it will be a little harder for me to get to. Considering Vapexpo was only about an hour away. If this is your first one. Its pretty over whelming. Seeing everything you have been reading about all together is overload! Bring some cash cause your going to need it!!!! I bought a few mods and slew of other stuff. I only planned on some cartos, drip tips and some juice. Spent almost 300.00. But I wont need anything for quite some time now. Like I said it was a good time!! My screen name is a device I use.

Shaweet...... glad to know at least some people here are vapers. Hope you can attend in Oct. I'm going and there is a local dude having a pre VC party here in VA.

Giving Up Smoking

Hi Guys,
Just wondered how many of you have tried giving up smoking and what methods you may have used? (whether succesful or not)
I am currently using an electronic cigarette (contains non of the carinogenics) and have managed to have no real ciggy's in 7 days. - and also have no disire to have one!
I have dropped the cartridges down to the medium nicotine from High and am still doing well! after a few weeks I will move to the Low and no Nicotine cartidges.
this is the most positive try I have had at cesation to date

I am looking at ecigs as a short term solution, but I am too finding myself using it more than I would normally smoke!
I am going to continue reducing my intake and make my way down to the zero nic carts planned for a couple of months time, I figure that in the short term, even tho still not great for me the e-cigs are a better alternative, for a start they contain over 3000 less chemicals
I am already seeing some benefits, I am more awake, I have more colour in my face??!, I have the obvious benefits too, (Dont smell, etc etc...)
the first few days were hard, and I knew I was missing something else other than the nicotine, but I am now used to them
My long term plan is not to smoke at all, Me and the wife are looking at having another expensive habit ( A baby) in the next year or so, and we dont want to be smoking parents, I for one had smoking parents and feel this is probbably a part of why I smoke (and really enjoy it too )

I found the site has a lot of info.
I know it has only been 1 week, but I would certainly recomend them (I have never gone this long with gum, patches, lozenges etc)

You know when I saw somebody that get a cig starts to smoke even in the tv i feel that i want to smoke too. I can manage to avoid do it in that case.
After the meal... sometimes when I awake at the morning, I smoke.
When its cold...
When i have nothing to do or im just walking on the streets i need a cig.
or when i saw any of my family smoks just fro the meaning of smoke or a nice spoken... i need to smoke.
and the last one... when i need to read a lot of forums here i need a cigarrete
My boss on my job told me one day long ago... i had that vicious thing on my life... but when my first child borns i leave it, it just need to have 2 big balls and hold it tight to void smoke again. thats all you need, guts to leave it.

well i might not be very experienced with cigs as most of you guys may be......
but still i managed to quit
i was 17 when i started smoking regularly
it went on increasing for a year or so
all it took to stop me is my girlfriend and sis who always shouted at me when i used to smoke
and a few nicotine gums for a month or so
i suggest you guys to go for nicotine gums rather thn e cigs they are a lot safer and they really help
(havent smoked a cig for about 3 months now and even stopped using nicotine gums)
smoked 14 years, and dropped it now... just dropped, no need e-cigs, gums and etc.. just stop smoking it easy. And now i feel myself maany better.

Unfortunately already tried gum, and lozenges, and inhilator, and patches, and cold turkey, as you can tell from the creation of this thread none of these worked for me.
I believe there is no "one size fits all" solution to quitting smoking.

mayeb then try to have someone to shout on you everytime you smoke(like sis ,gf,mom,wife)
girls are good at this
they will surely help you quit
it might be irritating but atleast will make you think twice before you smoke

I stubbed out the ciggy I'd just lit, crushed the almost full pack I had, and haven't touched a ciggy since. All you need is sufficient incentive and willpower. eCigs, patches, gum, they can help with the symptoms of withdrawal, but they ALSO drag out the process.
Cold turkey lasts about 2 weeks tops. It's not nice; you'll be irritable and difficult to live with, but it worked great for me.
After about 2 weeks of not smoking, you'll discover some things.
* Smell. You sense of smell is seriously affected by smoking. Once your system is clear of it, you'll discover a world of wonderful aromas.
* Taste. Like smell, your sense of taste is also seriously affected by smoking. You'll find it hard to believe just how good food can taste now it's working properly again.
* Virility. You'll be amazed at some of the other things that smoking actually buggers up.
WARNING: Do not substitute snacking for smoking! There's a damn good reason for my nickname!

I quit 5 years ago, I even have constant nightmares about smoking again. The gum, patchs, etc help to smooth over the initial shock of quitting, but you really really really have to want to quit. You have to hate cigarettes and truely not want to smoke them.
I found myself bargaining with myself.. "oh one now and never again" or " one now and then when I'm older I will go back to smoking".. The answer had to be NO NO NO NO NO NO NEVER AGAIN..

i quit smoking 3 years ago and since then never looked back and felt a need. Its quite easy to quit, but you have to have will power and determination. And mind it when you feel that you want to quit, never run for a last drag, then just quit.
I quit several years ago. Tried first not smoking at all, but two weeks later I was in hell. Then I tried gradually with simple goals like today I'll only do 5, then today I'll just do one, and so on. Until it was like today I won't smoke but I'll have 2 tomorrow. Currently I don't smoke, but I can have 1 cigarette socially from time to time, though I don't really enjoy it that much anymore (because of the smell).
I've just quit cold turkey 59 days ago. The first 4 were critical. After that, all went well. It's just a matter of will. Take it as a test: could you or could you not?
I had been smoking for 25 years, ever since I was 13, and tried everything. And I do mean everything, short of resting on my head, upside down for 30 days. Have tried the gum, the patches, etc. etc.
The solution that I found that works for me, but maybe not for many is Chantix. I was taken a little aback by the price of it. It was $120 dollars for a months prescription. (I used it for 4 months and am completely cigarette free for almost a year now.) And I am a Pharmacy Technician and work at a chain pharmacy!! The problem is, many insurances just does not cover it yet. But when you think about it -- at the minimum 1 pack of cigarettes per day is roughly $3-$4. Multiply that times 30 days = $120. So for me, it was worth it.
Chantix works with certain receptors in your brain. When you smoke, these "pleasure" receptors are active and therefore you get a reward response for smoking. Chantix blocks, fewer then more with continued use, these receptors. So without the receptors being active your body says "whats the point", and doesn't desire nicotine, and smoking. Now, besides the price, there is one pretty big con in the pros and cons of Chantix. You WILL have strange and VERY intense and vivid dreams while sleeping. At times scary, at other times just confusing. This interfered with my sleep a lot, but after about a month they started to be more normal. Granted, this might not have been from the Chantix, it could have been withdrawal from nicotine. I mean, nicotine is a drug.
No course will work for everyone, and you really have to have the desire and willpower to quit smoking. Honestly, I think another reason for my success is that I didn't want to go back to having the dreams again.
Good luck to all that are quitting, and believe me, it is really worth it. I can actually taste food again, smell nature around me, save $120 bux a month, hopefully live longer, breathe better, and have a lot, LOT, more energy.
I quit about a month and a half ago, smoked for 26 years. I'm using that pill chantix, and it seems to be working.. I haven't had a smoke, and I haven't killed any one, and haven't had the urge to kill.. yet. <evil grin>

well there are many reasons which would make someone start smoking
like being a cool kid in school to using cigs as stress busters
and here in india we(college/school students) generally smoke to supress sleep to study and perform well in exams(there is a large group that does it just for being cool though)
there have been times when i had to study for more than 30 hrs at a stretch
so at those times you really dont have any option rather than to smoke
(studying in india is harsh you REALLY have to work hard to stay in the competition)

Some of us just want an iPod Touch with the phone and GPS. In my case I've got Wi-Fi at home, at school, at work and at my girlfriend's house. Canadian carriers charge an arm for data.

[rant] If there's one thing that annoys me beyond belief, it's people who bring too many items into the 12 Items or Less Express Lane. IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT TO SEE WHEN YOU HAVE MORE THAN 12 ITEMS IN YOUR BASKET. Yet, people insist on taking too many items into the Express Lane, and because the people who do so are usually very stubborn, you often end up waiting the offender to argue with the checker about what constitutes an item, and whether they really have more than 12 items. After they inevitably lose this argument, they then must gather all their things back up and move to a different line, at which point the checker could have already served 2 or 3 customers instead of dealing with an insane person who can't do basic arithmetic.[/rant] Much better

valentine's day 2012

Valentine's day is coming up pretty soon.
I know we've been going through the same thing every year, ranting bout it's all part of the market's plan to boost item sales and chocolates and blah blah. That's one way to look at it.
anyway, any of you got special plans you'd like to share with us ?
or is it just myself that i tend to over-fantasise on these kind of things cuz im still a kid ?

I'm sure there's plenty of other XDA members that are doing something for V day.
Mind you my guy (and no I'm not a girl) is not into chocolate much so flowers and teddy bears are what I'm aiming, besides he loves flowers say I could buy them more often. Got a nice little place called Black Tomato's booked for us and friends.
Men last year for the V day special they had this amazing Lamb chop souflé and salad (5 course meal) for 35$... WAS amazing. Just check out the pics.
The desert was just as equally enjoyable.
Very much looking forward to diner with friends on Tuesday it's going to be great.

My mom wants to go there for a trip. Possibly New Years or June for sister's birthday. I've read somethings from google on other forums, but the newest is from Sept, and next is Feb of this year. I'm wondering if a tourist can go anywhere besides the French Quarter to sight see. And if so, do we really have to take a cab everywhere? Not safe to walk. That's what I read.
Honestly, I don't want to go. I don't want to babysit 3 drunks while I'm missing my girl. But I'll tell her your answer whether good or bad.

why ever leave the french quarters its amazing! every time i go i either walk or take a cab and ive never had a problem. once i park my car i never see it again till i leave to head back north. i know this is not much help sry

There is a lot to do. But I can only tell you what NOT to do. LOL
If you go to Pat O'Brien's don't drink the hurricanes like they are coolaid. They taste like it. But they are not!!! You will regret it.
Don't go to the bar The Dungeon. You might see things you can't unsee. Like midgets dressed in leather crawling into a hole in the wall to another room.
Did I mention NOT to drink the Hurricane's at Pat O's like they were coolaid?
You can always do the swamp things. Also there are a lot of historical places in NO. I hear. All I found was Bourbon Street when I was there. I was always within crawling distance of the hotel. Stayed at a nice historical place called Hotel St. Marie just a half block off of Bourbon St.

EDIT: I never took my car out of the Hotel garage. It is safe in the quarter to walk. Make sure you know the boundaries though. It turns to crap REAL quick if you venture outside the boundaries. That is in the immediate area of the quarter and other parts of NO are nice and safe.
Huh, well thanks guys. I'll let her. If I go, I want to see some good bands, and things I like 85gallon was talking about. Idk about them. She found a place a block away the French Quarter on airbnb.com owned by a couple gay dudes renting their apartment out for 160 a night. 3/2 with upstairs balcony. Seems pretty cool.

5yr old's bday is planned 2weeks ahead of time, then morning of, my brother who asked to host, asked to cancel and reschedule for the following day.
Reasons given, my brother's fiancé has her mom's death anniversary, and her grandmother is in the ICU with skin cancer, and she can't get it off work.
1) If this day bothered you so much, wouldn't you have recognized the date when we planned it? Or at least just not the morning of?
2) for skin cancer to put you in the ICU, that means you've had it for a while, so it's no shock. So go be with your grandma, absolutely, but why does it matter if you're with her today but not tomorrow? Plus you could be with her from 8am-4pm, then come to the party?
3) you can't get off work and you just found out now, even though you said you were booking it off 2weeks ago?
Aside from the fact that any sane/rational person would've just opted out so as not to inconvenience everyone else, she also assumed no one had anything else scheduled for the following day. Reverse the roles, if I was going to someone else's bday party and the morning of felt horrible, would I ask that person (and everyone else) to reschedule for tomorrow? No, definitely not.
What are your thoughts?
Personally... I think his reason is valid, his girlfriend's grandma is important to him. At the same time, you've planned this for two weeks so it would be a lot of work to reschedule.
My proposal: Have your kid's birthday, if your brother can't host then oh well, but welcome him to come when he can. Even if it's a day late, even if he misses the party, I'm sure your kid will appreciate seeing their uncle.
Life happens. Don't hold it against people.
To me, it's valid. Remember that we're talking about a birthday party for a kid who is in kindergarten or first grade. Does anyone remember their own 5th birthday and the associated celebration of it? I didn't think so.
Also, unless you are one of those parents that plans an extravaganza for such things and spends thousands of dollars on it, it's not that great of an inconvenience for you or your guests to show up the next day for an hour or so and wish the kid a happy birthday and possibly give him/her a gift. (Don't start on me with the pronouns argument, please. It's the kid's birthday we are celebrating here.)
It's also a teaching moment where the kid will learn that life doesn't always go according to plan and we must make due with what life gives us. The kid will probably cry and express frustration at not having the party as planned, but it's good to get used to those things happening at a young age so that in the future your kid won't grow up to be a YouTube "entitled person" and be the focus of bad commentary about how they melt down like a snowflake when things don't go right.
Have cupcakes with your kid on their birthday and a quiet celebration with the knowledge that most of the guests will be over tomorrow for the real party.

Your proposal is a little more complex as now the decorations and supplies (that were brought over there last week) need to be picked up, moved and put back up. While it isn't a big deal, it's an unnecessary 2hr drive there and back, plus setup time. There isn't enough time in the day, so having it tomorrow is unavoidable now, crushing whatever plans people had. My mom frequently works on Sunday, I don't even want to ask her. While my wife and I did had plans for tomorrow, luckily it's wasn't with my wife's parents and we could easily move it to today.
I'm impressed with your outlook on things, don't think I could do it given I'm also undergoing life saving treatment right now. My hat's off to you, the world needs more kind people like you in it. All the best.

I know the kid won't be able to tell the difference, I'm talking more of the inconvenience for everyone else. What's the point of planning something with multiple people 2weeks ahead of time, if we're just going to force everyone to do it on another day so as to accommodate one person? It sounds ridiculous to suggest, because that would mean there is never a choice then? Choice is only an illusion.
To me, the logical answer would be to have the one person that can't make it (for whatever reason), not make it. If "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one", then the decision is clear. 5 people inconvenienced, versus 1, and really, how inconvenienced can you be if you've only met the kid less than 10 times, and miss one of the many children's parties.
IMO ( worldwide accepted) common valid reasons to cancel last minute include sudden illness or injury, family emergencies, unexpected work obligations, transportation issues, and inclement weather.

Lol, indeed those are all great reasons for YOU not to make it, which would've been 100% cool. It's not the first time she missed a family event. If it were me, I would've bailed on the party and went to be with my ill relative. If she just wanted to stay in bed, and maybe come down for 15min to have dessert, 100% cool with me too. But to shut down the entire party morning of, inconvenience everyone else by scrambling last minute to rearrange plans, all while presuming everyone is free on the day you choose.......no, that's selfish.
