We Need Team Sonic Roms Over Here! - Nexus 7 General

No slight against any dev over here already. But TeamSonic needs to get over here, I am just a lowly tester.
But a dev with username Clark44 has been over the in GS3 Threads and is absolutely slaying it with his Rom...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748818
It happens to be the very first Galaxy SIII Rom that has the Aroma installer and about 15 or so boot animations, as well as Update Me, making the install of mods and UI stuff EASY PEASY! :victory:
He is also making and sharing some unique mods to all other dev's, like a universal modem installer that utilizes the Aroma Installer...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816530
Please ...send him PM's and Money! DONATE HERE > http://forum.xda-developers.com/donatetome.php?u=3885544
I will do my part to persuade (or threaten or beg or whatever it takes) him over here should he raise enough money to purchase this AWESOME device.
Please take a look at his work and all the props he has been given for his product...
Sorry Mods, this is a duplicate...put other is Q and A...Please delete that one...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29829289#post29829289

Dude, people are only going to develop for this if they want to. Begging gets you nowhere.

Absolutely agree. Clark has the talent. He's just short on cash to get the device.
_______________
Just Flash It !!!

Heck ill develop for it if I can get my hands on the device

Links to donate to a developer of a GSIII ROM that doesn't even have this device doesn't have much if anything to do with the Nexus 7

Support Legend Developers?

Hi all,
This is my first post, although I have been following the group for a long time. My post is motivated by the observation that a massive imbalance exists, particularily in the Legend development community.
There is a huge mass of non-contributing users badgering a small group of hard-working developers, whilst free-loading off the many hours they spend trying to improve the Legend for all of us. (BTW - I'm not pointing any fingers that don't equally apply to myself!) The value of the hours they are putting in is huge, and the return amounts only to the occational humble click of a thanks button.
I have written to the XDA owners and proposed that they implement a system whereby users can donate to a specific thread, and that each month the proceeds of thoses donations are distributed to posters according to the distribution of new "thanks" clicks to them. Unfortunately I have not heard anything in reply, so in the meantime I propose that we start here in the Legend development forum in a less systematic way.
For example; all of us eagerly following ogo2's thread on his Alpha rom should support how we can. We have all heard BlaYO's hesitance to get too involved in that he needs another Legend to do development work on, as he can't render his own out of service for days on end. Absolutely fair point. I would suggest that all active developers in here create a donation account somewhere so that the rest of us ungrateful, free-loading scavengers (again, myself included, and meant in the most positive way! ) can contribute.
Let's get BlaYO a second development Legend, or ogo2 some resources on Linux compilation etc. It's the least we can do, even if we are just selfishly offering to help them, help us
It would not take much, and I am quite certain that anyone who can afford a Legend can also afford to donate $10-20 now and then. What a small price to pay for all the hours that our devs spend working to bring all of us the latest and greatest. Let's give something back!
There were a bunch of users that actually donated to my PayPal account (a few months ago I didn't believe this could happen by the way).
I'd personally object to such a system for various reasons, the main one being complication of something which is a pretty simple in fact: You like the work of someone, you donate (or buy).
Moreover, there are a few CM developers whose work on their device (which happens to use an msm7227 chipset) directly influences the Legend too and therefore my work as well. They are not active in the Legend forum though.
So what I basically want to say: There's a lot of work going on – not hours but weeks – which you might never see because these almost unmoderated boards here are full of you-name-it and every CM developer I know pretty much dislikes XDA for that very reason.
You don't see us (40+ developers) working, but that doesn't mean we aren't.
Edit:
Ah, and by the way, I've been busy too, so tiwlan on 2.6.35 is almost finished.

Is this meaning that the new CM7s will have the new kernel?
By the way, what was modified in the kernel source so the tiwlan didn't compile normaly?
I don't need a new Legend, I just need some peace...
There you go

Hmmm... OK, I get that my proposal could have some shortcomings, however the intent is good. It's great to hear that users donated to your Paypal, Ali Ba, perhaps other devs should just publish Paypal details too, and users can direct donations to where they feel they are most deserved?
It is not meant to be fair compensation for the numerous hours spent, as the basic principles of community development should still be the driving force. It could, however, be a token of appreciation from those unable to contribute in any other way.
I can't help but feel that there would be more devs involved with more and faster progress as a consequence, if only there was a little reward in there too. Surely that would be in everybodies interest.
In any event, I offer my thanks to all the devs here, and I would be happy to back that up with a contribution, should you decide to go that way

I was working on getting wl12xx driver working with 2.6.32 kernel but I didn't succeed yet. Is there a reason not to switch to wl12xx driver instead? It also provides soft AP support int the same driver.
Regarding donations, it would be nice if I could donate you via Google checkout.
Thanks.
Yea leave Blay0 alone man, He's getting enough hassle on the Alpha thread as it is! people say they'd like to help then just request more things like a2sd,overclocked kernel etc.If you know anything about linux try helping by trying to build drivers for the last 2 bits (i.e Bluetooth, wifi)
I must say also that there were individuals who offered me donations which I respectfully refused and instead apoint those guys to their nearest charity. I'm not doing this for money (I make money doing other things) I'm just doing it coz I like to know how things work and I always like to learn new things. So if I become bored those donations definitely won't convince me to keep on doing it.
Don't you guys ever think that I'm doing all this for you! Noooope! I'm doing it for me and my own satisfaction. Yes, that's right I'm actualy a selfish, egoistic basterd but in a process of achieving my own goals (which are also inspired by some of your suggestions) I'm really happy if someone else learn something from me. They are few but it doesn't matter... they will definitelly pass on their knowledge and that's important coz I believe knowledge is universal and must be available to anyone willing to accept it and you cannot charge for that.
Don't kidd yourselves, this Legend thingie will be among us at most for another year and then it will get its successors and its community will become even smaller and eventually it will be disbanded and some of us will find new projects, learnig new thing and again passing on all the gained knowledge.

A whole year is an optimistic approach
The main problem in the development of the HTC Legend is the device itself. It's a rare phone, and pretty much a very small group of people is using it. That also makes the group of talented developers thinner. Look at the Hero or SGS forums topic/post count. Sure - most of them are retarded, and previously answered questions, but still folks in the dev section are coding some crazy and amazing stuff. That's because those devices where popular and successful. The HTC Legend was ment to be the successor of the HTC Hero, but this ain't gonna happen. Nobody will remember this phone in a year or two. That's of course HTCs fault, not ours.
Also mentioning all the request, demands and stupid questions in the dev forum - this forum is not that bad
Go check the Nexus S section. For example the NexusSense topic (my girlfriend got a Nexus so I'm somewhat interested). Now that's pure fukcin massacre out there
Greets!

Agreed, I thought Legend was a kickass sucessor, but very few people actually bought it...I've deserted to Desire S, but I think that's a very similar case so far anyways...
But back on topic: The thing is, everyone has an interest in what he's doing and unless he has a gain from that work he wouldn't be doing it But the idea of donating is noble ofcourse
Let's support our developers by not asking stupid and obvious questions, using search button, hitting that freakin' "thanks" button as often as we can, and most importantly by using our own brains to gain even more from their work

Dude I am not interested in starting an immature rant with you. But since you started it , let me tell you something.
The reason i started this thread was to inform people what they could do or not and uncover wise people like you ; unlike you, opening 2 threads with a powerwidget one and a battery mod, both of which you did in the UOT and calling it your mod and for roms you didnt even use (how pathetic is that). Probably if i didnt comment on your thread at that time, by now, you would have had tens of threads with all different combinations of mods from the UOT ( of course for every rom you would find here) and that is probably why you are taking this rant here. lolz.
So please spare me of your useless comments cause you do know what you have done!
I want to give you a heads up ! I think that there are many people that do not know the existence of uot and how easy it is to change a lot of things, like batteryicon, statusbar etc . So i think it was a good idea to point people to uot .. People tend to look no further then the section of their own device.

Im Not like u that made 1 themes and make yourself on top of everybody else.
Gosh... there are plenty ns users still have problem of installing SDK so that they can root their ns, not to mention they still have to spent hours or maybe days to root their device. And also spent more couple days to able use adb commands. I just tryin to make it simple. But I never call them a noob.

And u can stop calling me a noob and cheater, i am 31 years old man with a bunch of expertise, On Blackberry , iphone mod , and also symbian MOD.

Can u delete an OS on blackberry? can u fix a boot loop on blackberry? can u fix nooked blackberry?
Can u make screen animation on symbian? can u Hacked a symbian?
And u already make yourselve the greatest on top of everybody else just because your "Green elegance Theme for oxygen", and under estimate me as a noob and cheater. There are skies above the Sky.

Clearly you must have meditated a lot before writing this post. Anyway, just point out where did i ever call you noob and i will apologize immediately.
i never called you noob and never doubted you; my only response was why did u open 2 threads for UOT mods and claim something which wasnt yours. that was the only thing i said!
You might be a know-it-all in symbian, apple or whatsoever but things here should be this way imho: when you take something somebody else has worked and developed, you cannot simply call it my mod and even if you do so, you should always give credit to the author!! (which you didnt and that was the whole point).
Clearly my post has affected you deeply and you have been doing your homework very well going through my previous posts and threads and insulting on a personal basis. Unlike you, i wont go that far.Strict on topic, i have said what i thought. Some will disagree with me some wont. Final words.
Can we please just squash the fighting. We have had a pretty good forum, let's keep it that way. This really does not do any good for any of us or our section of the forums. That's just my opinion, but please give it some thought. Thanks.

You already did it once with the power widgets, now with the battery icons. why dont you create 20 types of styles for all the different roms here and creating 20 threads here. LOL

Maybe you should relax a bit and take a deep breath .. You are taking this way to personal and judging by your posts English isn't your native language (it also isn't my native language), that can easily lead to misunderstandings .. As far as I can read it, he isn't calling you a newbie ( which is not extacly the same as a noob anyway) and he is not calling anybody using uot a newbie .. Newbie in this case is referring to what it means literally , people who are new to the scene and may not know the existence of uot ..no more no less ..
so breath in, breath out , breath in breath out ...

TheWhisp is developing for Mini/Fit. We're supporting him. I don't think it's making sense to develop other ROM is he's there.
And which right? We planned to use every $ from donations for Mini, but in last 2 months I received 25$ only. I planned to use my own money, but for WHAT if TheWhisp is there. As I said, I'm supporting him, yesterday I fix'd browser on CM10 for Mini.
And I didn't received any donation for Mini from a looooooong, loooooong time...
And if you want to explain something, write to me first. If you think that's thanks to this topic I'll buy Mini, you're wrong. Why should I do this now?
Ok, I can buy Mini, but I won't develop something. It doesn't make sense to create two similar ROMs at the same time. TheWhisp is great dev and he have my full support, in words and in practic - I respect him.

And: MINI USERS WANTS RIGHTS... but Mini users can't help developer, when he says he want to help them...

i didnt ask you to buy, but asking for you responsibilities, thats all
I don't want to be against of you or anyone but why did you stop doing CM9 ,Where we have an incomplete cm9 rom and I heard you have the camera working then why don't you implement them and update the CM9.
Guys, this time Maclaw is right. If you want the kernel, I can try to continue Squadzone's work.

+1. its not logical to build another copy of the rom if one's already building it. and besides, maclaw is supporting Whisp now. give respect man. maclaw is not a robot to order around just because you liked to.

"How about MINI USER that DONATE to you until now or long time ago, and STILL waiting for the ROM, and the device for u to fix??"
so this means, u waiting for donation? you do have community right now after what u did, and u have the responsibilities towards them
it is same method for artist, if you willing to get fan, and u willing to be responsible towards them?innit?
and i know about TheWhisp, but if like that, there is no other ROM for each devices? one ROM for one device?

Hey, you talk about donation so much.
I think someone will donate to developer because that developer have already done something great. I think someone who give their money to the developer, should be give their money with whole-hearted, honest, sincere.
They should know that with donating, doesn't mean they 'buy' something, because the developers isn't selling anything.
It's true that Maclaw promise something that isn't good for himself, I think. I don't know what really happened. But creating a thread to him like this is too offensive, I think.
Maclaw removed his CM9 ROMs due to uncompliance with GPL license, which is good (not for us and the devs, but for Maclaw's understanding that he shouldn't play with those kind of things).
Current CM10 is using his kernel, and i will believe him about helping TheWhisp this time. A little bit of respect is needed now.
@Maclaw - just don't so the same thing all over again, leaving users with expectations and then dumping them away like nothing is just not right!
i 'm not the one, everyone else did felt the same
just don't be a pathetic because u wanna feel neutral
i just wanna know, whats the responsibilities towards mini user?that all.
and actually he should post something, maybe let the mini user know he didnt make it ( the rom or anything ) not just easily post,
something like, the rom will transfer to the other hand, that easy?
and maybe he can continue the cm9 for mini..
i dont want to argue or get fight, but just for the rights

+1 guys really it makes no sense in making the same rom again and again whats the use man you will have cm9 and also you will have aokp both are based on the same thing and as far as camera goes i agree with the others maclaw if you have working camera then please update but still even if maclaw promised mini it isnt compulsory for him to buy it he felt whisp is working on the same thing maybe he has a mini so whats the sense in wasting money and time on something that is just going to be the same thing under a different label
What a load of Spam! Get this straight - Users of any mobile have only "rights" from their seller, manufacturer and service provider. You have No rights from developers on xda at all (even if you donate thousands of Euros, Dollars or Pounds). I'm shocked that a moderator has not stepped in yet to explain that as a member of xda you have absolutely no "rights" whatsoever.

There is a misunderstanding here.
Donating upfront is not allowed. Maybe some did that, if so they are at loss.
Nothing can be done now.

Do you know what donation means? No? Let me explain that
Wikipedia said:
A donation is a gift given by physical or legal persons, typically for charitable purposes and/or to benefit a cause. A donation may take various forms, including cash offering, services, new or used goods including clothing, toys, food, and vehicles. It also may consist of emergency, relief or humanitarian aid items, development aid support, and can also relate to medical care needs as i.e. blood or organs for transplant. Charitable gifts of goods or services are also called gifts in kind. The largest form of gifts in kind is created in many nations by the donation of aging automobiles with the item donated being picked up, sold and the proceeds given to the charity or non-profit (type or named) which was the target of the donor's generosity. One standard way of obtaining donations is the use of raffles for the accumulation of funds.

So. In short - you can't demand something because you paid for that. In short this means, that you are freely give Macław and his team some money to use it for their own purpose.
Android wasn't involved for making money - it's Linux adapted to run on mobile devices. Linux is a GPL OS, so you are not paying a damn cent to receive anything. Android is the same. Don't exepect the developers to spend all their time to improve the OS. They have to earn some money too. Nothing is for free, especially food or flat.
Politics of companies is brutal - release the device, give one or max. two updates and pretend that this device is dead. That's normal - it's all about the money. Even biggest companies doesn't give a damn about their old devices/products.
You should appreciate that you have something more than plain GB. It took a lot of work to adapt all of the libs to run CM9/10.
You don't owe anything to Macław and he doesn't owe you anything as well.
I don't appreciate TeamICS politics, but I'm not the one to judge them. Developers are always welcome, especially here on XDA.
So please hide your grudge under the pillow and move on.

No. He just fixed the Browser issue. That's all, the rest of the work is done by me and Rohan007. He helps us, we help him.

State of Development :)

For those of you that have been around these parts for a while, you may remember the State of Development updates that good ol' Gsleon3 used to update us with. These came for us at a time when development for the Vivid seemed to be at a standstill, and for those of you that were here, you remember why. For those of you who don't, let me catch you up a little (and I apologize for the bad feelings that this may drum up, but I don't want anything to get out of control again). So grab a beer and a snack, this may be a long one
It was about April, and development for the Holiday was still in its infancy. There were a few good ROMs being released, and generally, it was a good place to be. Then accusations of stealing other's work, accusations of corrupt moderators, and all around child-like behavior started, and it became the downfall of the Holiday forum at XDA. ROM threads started closing. Then came the bickering. Then the Devs left. Then the users began to play the blame game, and the "let me try to whine my way to what I want" game. All the best devs left and opened up shop in their own little corners of the internet (and I can't blame them one bit), and development for the device was no longer centralized. There were/are still AWESOME ROMs available for this device, just not on XDA. This always made me a little sad. As painful of a place as XDA (or any internet forum for that matter) can be at times, there's sooooo much good information crammed into one site that it has always been my one-stop shop, but that wasn't true any longer. I settled in, I found a home, but I kept a close eye on what else was happening across the interweb's Holiday community. I liked to keep my eye on one project specifically, synergy's CM10 project, because who wouldn't want JellyBean, right?
Now, a little more information for those of you who weren't around.. The original CM10 thread was opened at another site in July, where the project started. Syn put a lot of time and effort into it, but in the end, found it to be not worth his time to continue on a project he didn't see possible to ever be finished (mainly due to the ATT in-call mic issue and video issues), and again, who can blame him? He abandoned the project at the beginning of August. This is where mg picked the project up, and continued it with a few fixes himself, before somehow we caught the attention of h8rift. h8 has been awesome - cleaning up our trees, getting things in their proper home, and powering through anything that gets in his way It's so great to have him around.
Myself, up until October, had only ever had experience with things like making boot animations, icons, editing .xmls in .apks, and some slight .smali edits. Thanks to mg's excellent guide and a crapton of Googling, I learned out how to compile/build cm from source. Then I thought, "I wonder if I could do the same for other JB flavors?" So guess what? I tried, and it worked. Every single question I had along the way (with the exception of a few Ubuntu and git specific questions), were answered by a thread here at XDA. Cool, right?
I am very excited to see new ROMage out for this device...as I'm sure anyone who was here through the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012" would agree, I was pretty sure what we had was all we were ever going to see. Which again, would have been OK, cause there are some great ROMs out there, but I've never been the kind of dude to settle in on the same ROM for too long - that's why I came to XDA in the first place. Now as I'm sure everyone can see, through collaboration, this project is making HUGE progress! I cannot thank mg and h8 enough for keeping it going. This brings me to my last point...
I encourage everyone to participate, and offer suggestions, and share information - that is, after all, what a developer's forum should be about. The wealth of knowledge that's available at XDA is out of this world, but sometimes hiding deep within the threads, filled by off-topic chatter and users who have way to huge a sense of entitlement. Please always keep in mind that the things you're getting here are free. Hours upon hours upon hours of work go into these projects, just to be shared for very little asked in return. Wait, we ask for something in return? Yes - READ, SEARCH, and SEARCH AGAIN before posting. Like I said, there's already a wealth of knowledge here that's incomparable to other Android forums on the web, but yes, sometimes it can be trying to find that information. But it's not impossible. Also - keep an eye on the issues list. There are bugs. There will probably always be bugs. And as long as there are, they will continue to be squished to the best of our ability (though h8's ability is far beyond mine, so let's especially be nice to him )
In closing - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not let this place become what it was before. So far I feel like the atmosphere around here has been a lot better, but I know how easy it can be for it to slip back to where it was. So be respectful, don't ask for ETAs, and be thankful for what we have - cause what we now have is a TON more options that we had before.
I remember the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012"... it was ugly, didn't even want to visit the site half the time. But things are looking up and I'm glad I didn't return my vivid thirty days after the release date like so many did.

Well said homeslice. Although I haven't been as active in my participation I got the Vivid on day 1 and am really happy to see development where it is today. There were many points I thought the device was basically dead and time and time again it was revived with new life. Hopefully the few left can make sure not to repeat drama mistakes of the past.
And great job on going from a reader to a developer, very well done.
Why is my xda premium app only let me reply/post on certain sections of forums and not development??:banghead:

Sorry but we don't approve of the use of our work by non-team members and do not condone the porting of any of our roms to other devices for various reasons. One of those reasons is these roms will never meet the same level of quality and support our users have become accustomed to as such, these roms will never be allowed on xda and will also be refused Venom Hub access.

That's exactly what I want but there is a language barrier, instead of releasing could you try to make it legit here with your team? Please I know there are really good developers and they can find how to make it legit is all I ask I do not want to make an issue out of trying to help others with this device, this device is capable of running this Rom flawless just like the one x or rezound which in fact is is the same device but cdma could you help us or assign this port to one of your team members?
Or if none of you has the vivid let a vivid developer take care of it please we have really good developers here to!!

Let's just drop it. The villec2 should get its jellybean sense+ update soon, and maybe we can port it. Or maybe we can get the Koreans to share their secret. In the meantime, it appears to be elsewhere, so get it there if you must

So, the options are:
1. We remove all of our tweaks from the framework files of a kanged port of one of our roms so that you can use it as a base
2. You find a Korean translator to ask the one who got data working how he did it.
Let's not start more xda drama the vivid forum has already been thru this. Either find someone who speaks Korean to ask to translate or have them remove all of their tweaks like they ask. The vivid has come to far now to start drama over a sense 4 ROM

Note 8 Device Counter!

Lets start a counter in this forum and let devs know about popularity of this device so we can get good AOSP rom etc as fast as possible!
"+1" from my side
+1

+1 for me and another +1 for my cousin who's not in xda
Really pointless thread. If you've followed any of the other AOSP request threads, you'll know that it's a very complicated and involved task. Amassing "+1" posts isn't going to motivate anyone more to take on such a task.
On a more personal note, I don't know why someone would buy a device like the Note 8 just to strip it of all of its features. Personally, I bought my device because of all the features Samsung has put on it. I wouldn't put AOSP on this, likely even if someone paid me, because it would defeat the purpose of having this device in the first place.

If you think that way you shouldn't be on XDA then, development is main thing we discuss here. Giving support to Dev in any way concerned will help them!

We all have different opinions and preferences, so I think we all belong here. Of course support for devs is always welcome, but a +1 thread may not be the most effective way to go about getting what you want...They can already see the view count on aosp-related threads after all. Maybe try reaching out directly instead.

Well, devs, I think, try to develop roms to attain a better experience, adding some features, taking out some not very popular ones, in general to make the overall performance better, as Max Terrible here stated, buying a note series device to strip it down of ALL the features that make it what it is, in my opinion, is pointless, to that effect, you should get a pixel device, clean pure android out of the box

Do explain to me how having a thread full of people posting +1 to try and convince a dev to make an AOSP ROM, is considered supporting the dev?
I definitely support the devs and the great work they do on here, but recruiting a mob to basically create a petition for someone to do something you want, is not what I define as support.
I assure you, any and all devs working on the Note 8 are aware of the very, very small group of people that want an AOSP ROM.

There would be lot of people who dont upgrade mobile regularly (may be 6 months) some upgrade after 2 years. And u might be knowing samsung way of updates so aosp rom etc is very help to have a taste of latest updates. I know only note special things wont be working but many extra things u will get in these roms. Till now we are not able to use gcams! This shows development for this rom. Intent of this thread was to see popularity of this device and let dev see the demand:laugh:
Thanks for +1 people! Lets go guys!!
