Hello, first, you can call me noob.
I'm using my Optimus 2X with stock rom 2.2.2 and this is one that gives me the best scores at benchmarks (don't know why ?). When using 2.3.4, it's lagging when scrolling menus and benchmarks scores are smaller.
But soon, I will need my cam to take the best videos possible while keeping the best battery life possible (like the stock rom which is good I think).
What is the best ROM (very good battery life, lag free) I should install with full accelerated GPU for video playing and encoding (1080p), that I can install a modded camera with ?
Also, what modded camera should I use ?
To finish, what's the install procedure from stock 2.2.2 to rooted phone + new ROM ? (I'm using Smartflash to install stock ROM but i have no idea about the modded ROMs)
There are so many threads, I don't know what to do :silly:
Can anyone sum it up for me in a easy step by step process ?
Thanks and sorry for my english.

Thanks, finally, I found a modded cam for my stock rom and used superoneclick to root it. It works as expected !

But i have now an issue :

Hi I am new to installing roms
and I want to install gingerbread rom anyone miui or cynogine ..etc
I was looking for Idiots guide for installing roms but couldn't find it
a friend once installed rom for me
current rom info ( don't know if you need to know or not)
Code:
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband: I9000JXJPE
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 hardcore at speedmod-k12o-500hz #56
build number: GingerBlue 1.4JPJPG DR.AKRIM
and BTW which rom is has the speed and long battery life ?
thanks in advance.
The title says it all
There's no idiots' guide to CM7 or MIUI as idiots are better off not going near them. You'd probably be better off with a normal custom ROM like Tweaky's or Darkky's. At least until you become more comfortable with flashing and recovering your phone.
Though CM7 instructions aren't hard to follow if you read them properly. Today's build is even easier.
OK found a video on youtube on how to
which one has better battery life?
Tweaky's VS Darkky's VS CM7 vs MIUI ?
Battery life is a problem in MIUI and CM7 so if battery life is your biggest concern you should probably take another.
I am totaly in love with MIUI thou, all the benefits of MIUI defenetly makes up for the slightly lower battey life.
As for installation if you just follow the guides (always a link in the first post of rom thread) to the letter you shoulden't have any problems.
Thanks alot I have just finished
Installing miui
Will try it for a while

hey guys can anybody provide instruction on how to flash cm9 on my optimus 2x. also is it ext3 or ext4 and which one is the best kernel + rom combo.
can games like gta 3 also run on cm9?
The two best CM9 roms are as far as I know, Owains CM9 build and Heis Nova HD. (you can find them both in the dev section). I believe CM9 is EXT4, like CM7.
As for kernels it becomes a little more complicated because there are about 5 different kernels for CM9 (Spicas HP extreme, Harsh's Reborn, Supernova HD, wkparks 3.0 kernel, Ironkernel (don't use this one!) and stock CM9 of course) So there is a lot to choose from, all you have to do is reading the threads and make up your own mind.
If you want to flash CM9, you first need to make a backup of your apps, contacts etc., because it requires a full wipe. Oh, you also need CM9 gapps obviously, you can find them somewhere on the Internet.
So all you gotta do in CWM recovery is:
1. (optional) Backup CM7
2. Wipe data/system/dalvik
3. Install rom
4. Install kernel
5. Flash gapps
Then you should be done!
what about games, do they run in cm9 like gta 3 or fruit ninja?
I think they should work ok, but not at their maximum potential. As you might know, CM9/ICS for our device still lacks HW acceleration. This essentially makes your phone smoother, so also gaming. With other words they should work fine if you compare it to CM7, but not good enough if you compare it to normal ICS with HW acceleration I think.

I have played both of these games and they run absolutely the same as on cm7
B/w I'm running cm9 with hp kernel rc1-r
Only thing is that idle battery life (8 hrs sleep time) is increased from 3% to 5-6%...not much of a problem if you ask me
so what i cant do in ics, take video recording and view videos as well as no adobe flash?
also is stock kernel owain kangs build stable and smooth?

Actually you can use MX Video player to watch just about any video you want, upto 720p in S/W fast mode
Havn't tried Owain Build, but i think Spica's Kernel, ironkernel and stock ics kernel are stable enough....have tried them all and no bsod's!!
As for video recording there is video illusion working in cm9

At the moment one of the best builds/kernels, an alternative would be the SuperNova kernels.

It would be nice if someone more experienced explain all steps for installing NOVA HD i mean explanation about steps for customization NOVA HD. Tnx in advance.
I would suggest you to try out latest Owain's rom and if I get it right, he have baked harsh rom with fix kernel into the rom, so you can use UMS (usb mass storage) for now latest is build 40 but i guess it is b41 comming out today for some reasons.. It is the smoothest and more stable rom that I ever had.. And battery life is awesome coz i guess harsh kernel is set to undervolt, but it doesn't affect the performance, and no problems with watching videos, for taking video you can take Videocam Illusion, works on g2x and o2x . I dont know about full version, but free one's quality is ****ty, but just in case I see UFO crash lol =)
What are the steps if i want to revert back to CM7, because i hate that the video camera doesn't work?
Tks.

They are basically the same... except for the backup part:

If you completely backed up your CM7, then I recommend you restore your backup.
Hi all,
I'm in Gingerbread 20Q now, and I'd like to install CM9 (owain's ROM) so I have some questions:
1. I have to convert my filesystem to EXT3 before install?
2. Kernel and Gapps are baked in the Rom or I have to download/install it separately?
3. There are RIL/baseband reccomended?
4. Someone says that Camera/Video have problems, someone not... I'll be possible to take photos/video with CM9 or not?
5. Someone talk about a "full wipe", so I will lose all my photos and files if I install CM9 ?
Thank you
D.
Hi all
I installed the lastet official update ... I've to say... what a disappointment. Battery life is extremely short... so before trying go back, I think a will install CM9. Being new... may I ask some help for installation? Ok, I dowloaded NovaHD_RC24-50_fixed.zip and the kernel SuperNova-RC4.zip. May I ask some of you to explain each step an which tool I have to use?
thx in advance
My OB usually lags on some games, on the homescreen, on the camera etc.
Is there anyway to stop this lag?

Yes, Stock 2.2.2 v10f Rooted
It will be better if I update to the 2.3.4 and root it again?
As for the homescreen just install Launcher Pro. Its like 4X smoother than it nearest rival. Smoother than my iphone4.
I use CM7 with the stock gingerbread launcher and i have no lag at all in the GUI and most casual games (dont know about processor heavy games though).
As far as I know even upgrading to GB stock (if you can) is much better that froyo.
So if I want to update to the 2.3.4 through the LG Updater thing. Is that possible? Will I mantain the root or not?
I really want to reduce some lag...
Use smartflash and flash the cracked v20b (2.3.4) software. The only way to update and maintain root. Do backup all your stuff before this and do it at your own risk.

Froyobread - stability and performance on stock kernel
If u want stability + stock kernel, the best choice is froyobread (much more ram and good performance). Everything is working perfectly, like stock.
PS.: it will be better if u dont install unused apps on it, and configure it correctly, like on all roms, include stock. Search more if u have doubts about one "bug". Every rom is good in one aspect and not so much in other.
Search, read, and test, it is my opinion, your will b different.
[edit]Camera: works perfectly (photo and video) like stock just on froyo roms, gingerbread have lowest quality on photos (not so much) and video lag a bit some times (not so much too).
I dont see big diferences, gingerbread is good too (not perfect like stock)
Keep in mind: Custom Roms have issues, bigs, and smalls

I enjoyed to first experience FroyoBread, the problem is not knowing where to download it. On the main page of ROM links are not working ... Someone can give me a little help?
