How do you disable capacitive buttons on Jelly Bean roms? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright here's the deal, I got the semi common problem with these phones of the search button freaking out occasionally and I know about the cypress.kl file mod that works on ICS an GB but if I do that on JB noting happens, I love the Hellybean rom but I can't use it with my phone popping up the search thing every 5 seconds. Thanks.

I have exactly the same issue with my captivate. I didn't find any solution yet.

Yeah I've gone as far as opening every file in that keylayout folder and deleting everything about button 217 or the search button but all I can ever manage to do is either break the vibrate on key press or make it so none of the buttons work including my power button

Is there a APP that allows you to switch off the phone instead of using the hard button on the side ?
Example: A widget - when pressed switches off the phone.
Something similar to Quick Reboot but a power/shut down app.

I believe Switch Pro has that feature. But you need root for that.

try quick boot works for me has options for
reboot, recover or bootloader.. but not shutdown
there are a lot of apps that do reboot, Toolbox, toolbox to name a few that i actually have, but that's a good question for the shutdown.
Hmmmm, I searched high and low and found one hopefully, over at android forums. Gotta register first then i'll have a look later.

I also saw that thing on many chinese android tablets ... volume button, home button back button ...
Why to do that if you have dedicated keys? It was created to bypass only one key on iphone.

Thank you for your replay ...
On iphone i know the "lack of keys" problem ... But chinese tablets have all keys ... and also the shortcuts in the status bar ... I only want the home shortcut, because it's more comfortable to press on the touchscreen than on the button ...
It could be ported but other users will see no point in that

I thought it was already ported for some other devices, and somebody would know how to do it ... Thank you

For those who need this solution I suggest the app Home Button on Play Store, it puts an icon on statusbar to go to home screen.

It would be great for all of those people with broken volume buttons. A nice looking recovery would be a first.

Navigating via volume rocker sucks, often times on the Nook i'll over shoot and the selector will just keep going for a good 4-5 seconds. My only reservation is I like the integration ROM manager has with the App and with the CyanogenMod community. I imagine that that souldn't be a problem, at least not for long.
The teams website http://teamw.in/project/twrp currently doesn't mention the Nook, but I guess that's to come in v2.0
It's an art to figure out how long you need to hold the volume button to reach the bottom of your root directory. You have to time it right or it will loop through your directory if you hold it to long

I'd be much more impressed if I could flash it

'Settings' button in Notification Bar (After ICS update)

A few weeks ago my Note got ICS OTA (LPY on an 'open' Multi-CSC.) Its been a great improvement from stock GB but a tiny UI change has been bugging me because I don't know if it's a standard 'feature' or a bug or something that can be turned off in the settings.
It's a new 'Settings' button in the Notification Bar. I've attached a picture of the culprit and annotated it accordingly so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

My questions to fellow ICS Note users are:
Do you guys have this?
If so can it be turned off or removed?
PS: I've recently non-wipe 'updated' (via Mobile Odin of course) to LQ3 and it's persistent.

I have this, I think it's supposed to be there. I think I remember it from my HTC Flyer as part of Sense.

Sigh, what a waste of space. I'm on CF-Root kernel now so I'll probably flash one of those cool '15 Toggle' Notification Bar mods (if there is a stock ROM version) and see if they remove it.

What you mean by "close app on KK"?
Just press back button on navigation bar and if you want to kill apps from recents press third button on navigation bar and swipe them away...
