[Solved] Unbricking Australian Galaxy S

So I've just inherited a bricked (black screen of death) galaxy s that was bought from 3 Australia (as far as I can tell its not sim locked cause they were using it with vodafone). It doesn't have the 3 combo to get into download mode but I've found the usb jig so that should hopefully help me get back into download mode. I am just wondering what the best firmware i should flash with odin once I get back into download mode.

Eclair 2.1 JM9, from there I would go with a 2.2.1 custom ROM in the dev section.

I can vouch for the above recomendation. it is exactly what i did to unbrick my sgs.

Do I get it from the forums or from samsung?
did a very quick google check but didnt find anything with download, so if you could point me in the right direction that would be great!

Jm8 has always been my fix firmware for some of my stupid attempts at customization always does the trick on unbranded virgin sgs Australia.

Thanks for you help guys, I found JM9 a little below JM8 so I'll give it a try first its also a full f/w.
While I have your attention! Does anyone recommend a custom rom? I am currently using cyanogenmod on my nex1 and will probably use it on sgs if there are no other recommendations.

any one help me. my phone after flash XXJPU, it die.
my phone don't received sdcard ( internal ) and i try flash some other Rom but still not work (

Just thought I'd let you know (and any other aussie who has this problem) that I managed to get it working using the usb jig and JM8 from the link above and the CSC from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847765 (sorry can't post urls yet), however I had to use the re-partition option in odin for it to work after reboot. I'm now happily setting it up after flashing darky's rom.

Factory reset 8.9 3G

Can anyone tell me how I can do a full factory reset which also un-roots my 8.9 3G ?
I have hooked up my tab to KIES but see not such an option in the program

I have a feeling that he wants to go back to stock firmware. The link you posted is not stock firmware for his region.

Managed to revive it by doing the following:
1. Download the stock ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350500
2. Use Odin to restore to the stock ROM.
3. Restore to any other of your choice ROM.
Hope this helps someone!
**Note: The ROM is from the ORANGE carrier, with lotsa french apps installed.

Galaxay Note CSC KOR -will never receive an update?

I have a note CSC LA4 KOR. . does this mean my phone will never receive an update unless I root or change the coding and completely wipe all my phones data?
Kies says my device does not support updgrades and I read that I wont get push updates either? ..
Im new to android and I own a mac, so am I basically f***ed and stuck with 2.36 for the life of the phone?
or is my research totally wrong?

I just did a quick google search and apparently if you know your way around a mac and it's terminal then it's possible to root and etc. As for receiving an update the new update was for Europe and since you have a Korean device you'd probably have to wait for a Korean update. I'm not to sure about Kies not saying your device doesn't support updates, I got off stock as soon as I got the phone.

Just change csc lol, easy, search for it lol. Best to dl stock rom with csc of choice, flash it and then change csc

but doesnt that require completely wiping the phone? and isnt a PC needed to do that?
a user shouldnt have to completely wipe data to do a basic update. .

I had the LPY 4.0.3 yesterday and decided to go back to my original 2.3.6 GB
What I did was because my phone is the Hong Kong model (TGY) I went to SamFirmware site and under Asia I downloaded N7000ZSKK1
After flashing that on it still wasnt the right one as Kies still displayed that it wouldn't update.
But a firmware update OTA poped up and when I plashed to that I got my original GB 2.3.6 back.
So I tested it by connecting it to my windows PC and kies displayed that I had the latest firmware.
So my advice to you is you should look for the 3 letters in brackets under firmware and on SamFirmware site download the correct firmware for your device.
Mine was TGY for Hong Kong so yours will be different or the same.

From what I'm reading the KOR version will never recurve updates for some reason...can anyone confirm or deny this?...I don't mind waiting...

Hi... Actually same happened with me too... I bought ma phn from India and and took it to korea. And started using it on KT. But when i put ma phn on kies they said that this firmware is not supported vai kies. Before i didnt knew what tge heck is this. Then after some time i inserted indian sim (which obviously is not working here) n then restarted. Ma phone was recognised by kies n it come that YOU HAVE THE LATEST FIRMWARE. So what i understood was of u have the sim from where you bought ur phone(in ma case it was India), just insert it,restart it. N update or do whatever with kies or if dont have just download the correct and latest firmware acording to ur country from sammobile.com, put ur mobile on download mode (by pressing volume down, menu, power button in same time until the warning screen comes up then press volune up key) n by using odin flash that latest firmware. If you dont know how to flash using odin Just tell me. I will let you know. I hope this will help you.

Ps: for flashing no need of rooting and all.

I bought my phone in Thailand. .but I believe it is a Hungarian model made in korea (the owners manual is in Hungarian). the back of the battery says made in japan/finished in korea?? .and now I live in Vietnam. .what a clusterf**k
I can do the odin thing but I dont own a PC (I own a mac) so it is not easy. Last time i did it it took well over an hour with downloads and installations.
Ill be in Thailand shortly so ill see if it will update with a Thai sim, but i doubt it as I dont think it is a Thai made phone ..

KOR doesn't mean Korea.It's for some European countries,and every Note will be updated.

Dont worry. The place you bought matters not the place where it is made. But i dont understand, Y ur phone showing kor. Are u using ur note in veitnam?? If yes then y its still showing korean csc. Anyway for mac there is heimdall same as odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265. :thumbup:

not sure why its saying KOR when im in Vietnam. . I really dont understand any of this. . this is my first android.
Ill try to mess with it tonight and see what I come up with, but from what im reading people are saying KOR is not a valid CSC or its a generic CSC and will never receive updates. .
man this is all overally complicated to get a basic update that was supposed to be released in Q1.

Worry not cuz csc doest matter. Samsung phone are most hackable devices. U ll know how to deal with it. I also learnt all hacking with this device. Njoy...

success!!. . I updated to ICS using Odin and it was really easy.
My only difficulty is owning a mac and the use of a PC at work is very restricted, so i needed the IT guy to allow access to download all the drivers, kies etc. .
but when all is said and done if you own a PC it is a really easy process thanks to Dr Ketans tutorial. .

After upgrading to JB XXLQB , baseband and imei become unknown.
Can some one give my the modemfs.tar.md5 for my region ( Hong Kong )
And tell me how to use this file.
Please Help !

so from your experience, how did you end up in baseband problem?..
did you ticked the "phone EFS clear when upgrading from GB to JB?..

yes cos i was angry ans so frustrated that time that i cant fix the XXXX prob, samcustservice also didNOT fix that prob
i mean its all worth a try (i checked all box that time for a record!!!) LOL!
no coz its not necessary when flashing or upgrading
**theres another post on how to upgrade gb to jb (properly)
its very simple.
dl req files
your fw from sam
odin
drivers
put file on pda (jb only have 1 file)
optional: you can put also csc if u have 8gb or 16gb version check (repartition)
check only (reset time..) and (auto reboot) if without csc file
ur good to go these are just rundown of basic flash/upgrade
click start!
thats all
***yes you can have probs when you check those boxes like hardbrick your unit!

my suspicion was either:
1. ticked the phone EFS clear
2. repartitioning (using pit files)
3. flashing sim-locked phone by carrier
for having this baseband XXXX problem
i am eliminating each.. all out of curiosity..

S3 LTE stays modified!!!

i did that several times......

Maybe you flash the wrong firmware? Try another one from Sammobile

I tried many times too, triangle away then flashing I9305XXALI9_I9305OLBALI8_SIN.zip for I9305 4.1.1 Singapore version, but still saying modified.
-When i checked with KIES, instead of flashing ROM from SIN (Singtel), its showing MM1 (Mobile 1).
Note: double confirmed my download of the said firmware
Initially it's showing Device Status: Normal but after a reboot of the phone, it shows MODIFIED.
So, this could be caused by the bootloader i believe. its using the new bootloader.
Can anyone please post a link to download the old bootloader of I9305 international

Singapore ROM have multi-CSC , you need to change CSC in order to get Singtel
try this,

change csc it will factory reset , root will be gone too

Odin to install stock firmware
Go to back up and restore factory reset phone
Root your phone then triangle away
Change csc if needed if not just factory reset again

In your phones keypad dial *#272*Device IMEI#
-another popup dialog box will appear, just select your network provider and it will reboot and configure your device again.

- i did this and i can see everything from singtel instead of M1.

Do you have a microsd inserted? - please remove it and try rebooting your device and see if system status goes NORMAL.
THat took me 3 days to figure out.

dude i should say its my luck that i forgot to insert my sd card into my phone!!!it worked out for my everything is fine now thanks to u!!!!.....
