I just bought a new 8125 a couple months ago and I dropped it and now the LCD screen is not working properly, there is a small crack on it and it is red when u turn it on. However if the phone is off you can't see it at all. I want to attempt to brick my phone so it doesnt turn on so i can try to exchange it via warranty. What can I do to accomplish this?
Thanks

Why can't you just return it for repair because of the LCD? If you are still under warranty it should be covered without bricking your device.
i dont think the warranty covers accidental damages well cingular's warranty anyway. i think they say if u drop your phone and it breaks then its not covered.
This thread is now closed - the forum is not here to brick phones but develop them!
I think I can easily flash the rom back to stock myself.
what about recovery? should i try flash it back to stock too?
and that open lock sign at the beginning, should I do anything about it?
Thanks.
you cant get rid of that lock sign in the beginning. You can flash your recovery back, but what is wrong with the phone in the first place?
the gps does not work any more (I tried all the ways I can find here but no fix)
I think I can just hope they will not tell me the rooting voids warranty..
Rooting will not void you warranty. Unlocking bootloader on the other hand, will void your warranty. But there are cases where people unlocked their bootloader, but still get their warranty.
Wish you luck.

+1 for HTC
the $529 hold for my replacement is released the same day they got my defected unit.
First thing I would do is say goodbye to AMOLED.

Bullsh!t.
1. There are no SLCD replacements
2. You get the replacement before you send in your original, so you can always check
I guess it takes a savant MORON to switch an AMOLED to an SLCD via warranty exchange.
I'll take SLCD over AMOLED any day if it'll fix my touchscreen issue!

Guys please. Make this as a Stick or announcment. It just get worse, cause liek everyone is bricking his Phone now

Still the Questions:

Short and painless: No, there's nothing you can do to repair the hard brick.
The two options left to you are:
1. Send it off to SE in case you somehow still have warranty.
2. Find a _SKILLED_ repair shop. I don't know if the phone can be revived through JTAG by using a RIFFBox, but it would be worth a try. Additionally the service guys could take a look at setool.net where the_laser entertains "SETool". There's a method on how you can revive it by using SETool and the Qualcomm Resurrection cable / test-pin connection (UART mode Flash).
I think the chances to return the phone might be impossible as it's too obvious that you did something wrong.
This is one of a 100 threads I have seen that is about bricking
1: Use the search button!!! It is not an ornament of a piece of jewelry. It is there for a reason.
2: do what b. Jay said. Send it off to se.

Hello Guys,
I recently PICKED up a DEAD VIVID from a fellow XDA'r for a really cheap price hoping I can UNBRICK it and use it
As I have understood , This phone was bricked during the ICS update Process. Looks like the Original Owner did not know what he was doing LOL,
The phone should be here in a WEEK
Can anypone shed any light on how this can be fixed and what are the possible options ?
JTAG ??? HTC service
I live in INDIA BTW
bump....
Hope I wasn't a Idiot to buy a bricked VIVID ??
I don't think any solution has been found so far. If you hadn't already known, our vivid section is really small with not a ton of development going on. The people that couldn't follow directions were sort of left in the dust, and I don't know of anyone working on a fix for the bricks.

I assume he's talking about the worst kind we've seen. Like the noob who pissed off PG and made him leave.

If it powers on and you are able to go to HBoot it can be saved.

If you can get into Qualcomm dload mode, you should still have a shot at fixing it. If it literally can't get into dload mode, does not boot into fastboot, or any other possible method of pushing files to the phone, then yes, it is bricked. You will have to find a way to use JTAG or send it to an HTC service center.
Thank you all !!!!! hoping for RIFF box to work
I started a similar thread.....I also have a bricked Vivid.....I have been able to get mine to be recognized by QPST on com6 in phone download mode.....the question is, what do I do now? QPST seems to be pretty straight forward, but I have no idea where to find the necessary files to flash the phone. Any ideas?

..
I haven't been able to find any .hex files for our device. Tried opening the various .img files extracted from the PH39IMG.zip in a hex editor and saving them as .hex files but QPST returns an error. I don't have any experience in hex editing, but I know I can't brick the phone any worse. My g/f has went back to an HTC Inspire so I am going to keep this hope alive as a side project.

Whether this guy who bricked his phone was a NOOB, isnt really an issue now is it? Nor if he is one of the ones whom ticked off PG.. I bricked my Vivid, and 1) I'm not a NOOB. 2) I followed Directions to the letter ... did everything right and it still bricked.. but i had insurance through BestBuy , sent it in and got a new phone 2 days later.. re-tried the same steps i did before which bricked my phone, and it went through without a hitch... We arent here to judge people nor start up another thread which can potentially lead to another mass exodus from XDA
Well I just got off the phone with HTC....seems I was wrong about their warranty policy. Even though I was not the ORIGINAL purchaser the PHONE is still under warranty. I will be shipping it back to HTC first thing in the AM.

Wow, I didn't even know that. All you have to do is send back the phone, no receipt, no nothing?
I called HTC and gave them my contact info and all the info about the phone....IMEI#, serial #, and part #.....told them what the problem was....and they emailed me the info about sending the phone in...worst case is the problem won't be covered under warranty, in which case I will have to pay $135 to have it fixed. Hopefully it will be covered under warranty though....
Hi I seen your problem to me step and follow these steps to get here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20807914&postcount=2 download from here http://www.filefactory.com/f/002b74e0f4775869/ version for AT & T is this RUU_HOLIDAY_ICS_35_S_CINGULAR_3.26.502.52 install it from your computer and running.

yeah i've sent them many phones, a couple of hd2, touch pro, touch pro2
can't remember what else but yeah if ur not original owner from a store they go by production date of the phone, i've been lucky that i always got them fixed for free, only once they said that said that the damage to my screen was due to physical damage and didn't fix it, and they charged me $40 (they call it a triage fee) other than that, i had to pay to ship it to them but it's worth the $5 using usps priority mail, they ship back at their cost with a nice box and HTC lint free cloth lol
You need the H-BOOT

Hi everyone,
as some of you know, I did a stupid thing (flashed wrong hboot) and bricked my phone. I have a friend who can solve this problem for me with JTAG RIFFBOX, but my phone is still under warranty.
When and IF I send my phone for warranty to an official HTC service center, what are my chances that they repair the phone if I just say it died for example during software upgrade?
Thanks
lottery mate..

I am feeling lucky!
Depends on country/replace center/staff. So it is really like a lottery
Also, a JTAG will open up the phone to the extent of physical damage, if you get turned down from HTC Warranty THEN go with JTAG.. however even then JTAG is known to cause problems for network lock/etc..
I have packed up my phone and sent it up for a repair. It is not physically damaged or serviced by 3rd party, so we will see what happens
Usually if a phone is completely nonresponsive, as it would be here, they will just replace the motherboard and be done with it.

This phone actually has faulty camera ("pink" syndrome). They have told me that they do not replace camera modules, but whole phone.
However, in the meantime, I bricked it

I did the same... I had just the pink camera and haven't send to repair and now it's bricked. No choice.
Is your phone under warranty? Did you send it for a repair?
Just to update you...
My phone was repaired and is sent back to me.
It also had "purple camera" problem, but they only replaced camera (not the whole phone). But OK. I suppose I will get new 24 month warranty because they replaced mainboard.
