hardware id missing - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i installed paranoidandroid ics yesterday and it's working very nicely, but then i find it's only mtp so i installed usb mode switch app choose mass storage, rebooted, mass storage worked but copying is so slow, so i reverted back to mtp and uninstalled the app but then windows started to show "hardware id missing" message
i uninstalled kies and installed naked drivers from here, it worked but then the mtp mode is not functioning properly and the device shows no folders in it, so i removed it and installed kies again but the "hardware id missing" returned.
what should i do ?

happened to me too, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver did it for me or maybe you could change USB port

i uninstalled kies and reinstalled it and changed the port, still nothing, if kies is installed it shows the hardware ID error if it's not installed it shows the drive empty like the screenshot

There's also a "Samsung USB Driver" installed with KIES..
Un-install this from Add/Remove Programs.
You can also Open Device Manager and un-install the Samsung device from there which will force them to be picked up again..

tried everything, nothing, i installed the drivers alone from dr.ketan's thread and still when connecting in mtp mode this message appears
i changed the mode to mass storage from paranoidandroid settings, but i don't know why the copying speed is this slow (1.4MB/s)
so to sum up:
when mtp was working ... copying speed was fine
mtp stopped
mass storage works fine but it's slow

How about checking your device if it has a hardware id?
Also search on preconditions updatability and kies. You will find my post.
Did you try in kies pc connection troubleshooting?
Also did you make efs backup of mint factory condition phone?
Also disable debugging in settings then developer options

how do i check if the device has an id ?
i searched but i can't find your post
haven't tried kies troubleshooting, will give it a try
yes i made an efs backup before installing paranoidandroid
i disabled debugging, and nothing changed
EDIT: i tried now while the note is connected, switched the mode to mtp, windows installed the driver again(i don't know why because it was already installed) and the folder appeared ... copying speed is a little slower than before though
i'm afraid to install kies right now it might mess things up

yeah network troubleshooting is a bliss. Sometimes for no apparent reason its needed.
Sometimes jumpstarting from phone settings, storrage setting usb mass mode works. Depends on rom and unknown to me variables.
sorry preconditios only relevant for updating thought kies

ok here isyour answer.
im guessing you have a windows pc?
samsung put out a driver update for the computer that caused the error.
only way i found to fix the problem is to do a system restore back a few days before the update.
my update was automatic, im going to see if i can stop that update from happening for now..
ic you can call samsung and make them aware like i did...

I found the solution on a thread for the Samsung Galaxy S II: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837434
Basically the windows update downloads an old/non-working driver, so either uninstall and re-install Kies with the Samsung USB drivers and make sure your internet is off and it should work when you reconnect or just uninstall the drivers and install the Samsung driver seperately from here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=170044&t=4&i=1 with the internet off afterwards, connect phone and it works.
I did complain to Samsung about this and got a really useless reply as if I didn't even know how to install Kies or anything. Searching Google also took quite a long time to find the solution.
At least I am now I can download the new update that came just today with extra features like S3 style ui, 3D gallery and general speed improvements.

Hey there, this is what i did. works for galaxy note, and practically any other samsung device there is.
This happened to me since I updated Kies. What works for me:
Unplug device from usb cable
Go to settings -> more (below data usage) -> USB Utilities -> connect storage to PC -> OK -> Turn on USB Storage
Windows now does recognise the phone and you can browse the phone as a drive. Kies will give you an error.
Turn off USB Storage, disconnect the phone.
Take out the USB cable and put it back in and Windows should detect the phone properly now and Kies will recognise it too.
Good luck!
Hope it helped you! Lol specially created an account to post this hahaha

No its not working still hardware id missing error

any updates to this? My i717 note does this on my home PC (Win 7 Ultimate x64), but works properly on my office machine (Win 7 Pro x64).

I solved this problem with my Note just by connecting it once in Recovery mode & letting it install the drivers, & once again connecting my Note in Download Mode & again letting it install the required drivers. When my Note restarted, No Hardware ID missing notification...!!!

[Q] Captivate & Windows 7 64bit Drivers

Hey Guys,
Firstly just got my captivate a couple of days ago and i am still struggling to get to install drivers and have my pc detect the phone. I am totally new to android (coming from iphone)... there might be some obvious things that I might be missing here...
Here is what has happened so far
I have pretty much tried all the drivers on the web and I am still unable to see the drives on my PC. Driod explorer is unable to detect the phone. Device manager is showing a USB device by the name "SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device".
In the phone i have enabled usb debugging. Once the cable gets connected, I also open notification and enable USB storage.
I am still not able to see the drive or have any applications in my pc detect the phone. What am i missing?
A simple usb device installation has never given me so much trouble. Starting to get frustrated.
Appreciate any pointers in resolving this issue.
Thanks
So you chose "Mass Storage" in settings? And once you connected, pull down the drop down men you, press USB, and then press the "Mount" button?
Mine worked just fine on WinXP and Win7 64 bit once I enabled mass storage and then confirm "Mount" each time you connect.
yes I did choose mass storage option & mount it.
I am able to see the usb drives in windows xp. But cant resolve the issues with win 7 64bit. I am using the following drivers

I know a few people who had connections problems too. They were able to fix it using this driver: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
Some others were also able to do it using the Samsung Kies program.
Just one thing, though. You said in your post you're selecting 'Mass Storage'. Did you try selecting 'Kies' (this is even without installing the Kies program)? Try doing that. Also, try having USB debugging off when you perform the aforementioned test.
All I can get with debugging on or off and mass storage is this

no matter what drivers i use. I cant mount it on Windows 7 but I can on vista
My desktop is running Windows 7 64-bit, and I couldn't get it to recognize my phone for anything, even with the drivers from Samsung. The computer doesn't even pick up the phone as a device, much less one it recognizes. I had to use my netbook (Windows 7 32-bit/Linux) to do all my phone-related hacking stuff.
I'm using Win 7 64-bit and here's what I did after reading some suggested steps in another thread:
Install Samsung Kies first, before ever connecting the phone.
Run the program, then connect the phone to a USB port on the motherboard. Not one on the front of the case.
Windows SHOULD start installing the drivers.
I think I selected the Kies option on the phone the first time. Three or four different drivers were installed I believe. When I connected the phone again and selected Mass Storage, two or three different drivers were installed by Windows.
Does this mean I have proper drivers:?
Hi guys,
I just bought a new hp computer with win 7 64 bit os. I am able to use microsoft synctoy to syn itunes to my cappy. Does this mean that I have the proper usb drivers installed on my computer for my phone. I was thinking about rooting my phone and wanted to have the correct drivers installed.
Thanks, I consider myself a newby to the forum and to rooting, so any help would be appreciated.

Has any headway been made on this as I just got windows 7 64 bit, and am having a similar problem. Tried various drivers and whatnot but still cant seem to get the usb to mount like a flash drive. It is being recognized and can receive commands like reboot into download mode from AOI toolbox, but no mounting.. Kinda driving me up the wall bc Ive been stuck on the same rom for a few weeks now and Im itching to get back to flashing all the fresh new cm7 stuff out and just in general new roms.
The newest Kies will install a driver pack when you download it now.
MAkE SURE YOU REMOVE ANY SAMSUNG DRIVERS THAT ARE CURRENTLY INSTALLED
1.) download the newest Kies http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as?COUNTRY_CODE=CAN&LANGUAGE_CODE=ENG
2.) Install it. While it's installing it will install a driver pack.
3.) Plug your phone in.
This works for X64. I just used it on my own pc last week.

Turn on USB Debugging.
Lol I know how to enable USB debugging man. What I'm saying is windows wont allow it to mount for some strange reason. Going to try the kies driver mentioned earlier. Maybe that will work.
So I tried the kies drivers, and Im getting the same problem. The drivers will install and it will even trick me by showing the removable letters for my storage, but then after a second or so they disappear. When looked at under device manager they are just shown as unknown device. I just wanna backup my data like I used too.

I definitely don't want to insult anyone's intelligence here (which usually means I am going to). i assume we've tried restarting the computer again.....a couple of times.......and if that doesn't work, then manually uninstalling all the drivers which have been installed so far and then starting over using just kies?
Yea, all those mentioned have been tried.

I don't know if this means anything, but windows can recognize my device. Sorta. I tried flashing to stock in hopes that would fix the problem, but it didn't. Isn't it strange that I can flash my phone but not be able to mount my storage??

okay...
So i was able to connect to my Win 7 64 bit computer for a little while ... had to in order to update to Mini Keis 2.2 (ran into problems there but fixed it <if you have questions about it PM me>)
But now that i am in 2.2 i am not able to connect. I get an error saying drivers could not be installed. I have uninstalled the original drivers and installed the ones from AT&T and also tried the ones from Samsung... still same problem. Does anyone one have an idea as to what i can do to solve this problem.
Thanks to any one who can help
I've had luck by doing the following:
Had my phone plugged in - it went fubar - computer didn't recognize the phone.
Re-installed USB drivers (ones Design Gears posted and the ones linked in the Q&A sticky btw) over the top of the existing drivers with the phone plugged in - USB De-Bugging on.
Rebooted PC - winblows found the phone and everything was peachy. Windows 7 64 is definitely nice - but still has issues with detecting drivers and USB devices sometimes. Its still Windows after all
If it works on another PC than you know its a software issue with windows.
If your still getting the same error on another PC - then its possible that your internal card might be fubar.
Well I have tried EVERYTHING. Multiple drivers, uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting, usb debugging on/off, flashed to stock....Nothing. Windows 7 64bit. I hate hate hate you and hope you die of viral infection.

USB Drivers issue strikes again on Win7 x32 and x64 again...

I know there are many postings around for this as this is quite the common issue but i've read many of them and still can't get drivers to work for me on any Windows 7 machine... I have win7 x64 on a pc and win7 x32 on laptop and it's not working on either...
i' ve downloaded the newest drivers direct from the Samsung site and tried it on both...tried kies as well.. tried a few of the other drivers that i've found here and there but to no avail....
but its not completely failing....here's what i've got so far..
usb composite and usb mass storage install...with the newest samsung.. the only one that doesn't is the SGH-I897 drivers line...it never installs and stays red and no drivers stated...but i am able to connect to my phone via usb mass storage device... after i click it from the phone, then my pc or laptop will allow me to browse my phone and transfer files back and forth..even though the drivers for it aren't installed (at least on any screen that says they are working) but Kies will never detect the phone and if I want to MORE IMPORTANTLY run something like Odin... I can't connect...
so only usb mass storage connect to my phone from win7 x64 or x32 but that's it..i've tried different usb ports (as suggested many times).. tried a whole bunch of different drivers from every link i could find in this site and others..
the only thing i haven't tried drivers wise yet is the Galaxy S drivers for x64.. should i try those on my pc?
technically, if i can connect to my phone via usb mass storage and transfer back and forth (regardless of any supposed driver issues showing in win7) then shouldn't i be able to connect through a program such as Odin, etc?
I'm at a loss here and have tried a lot.. any other suggestions?

adb interface detects as different hardware for the device, the mode is completely different. Not uncommon to have driver load on one and fight you on the other. even happens when it was working before.
Did you try Heimdall using the driver loader for it to manually change? then flash from there.

What rom are you using? Aosp roms (this includes ICS) require the google usb driver for your computer to recognize it with usb debugging enabled.
When you uninstall your drivers, are you deleting the folder in program files labeled Samsung?
The drivers that most people use, 32 and 64 bit, are in my sig link (for gb and previous roms).
this is so effing confusing.
I HAVE WINDOWS 7 64 Bit.
I HAVE NEVER HAD TO INSTALL DRIVERS.
I plug in the phone, and windows gets the drivers and installs them AUTOMATICALLY from the windows servers.

Ics rom requires the google usb driver (aka nexus s driver) for usb debuggjng to recognize properly. To use the phone without debug, use Galaxy Nexus drivers. Both are in my sig link. The G Nex drivers are simple click and install. The google driver requires you to use device manager to specify the driver. You can google "how to install google usb driver" for detailed instruction.

Hi, i was also having the same issue when i purchased my gnote. i format it several time and updated it to final version 4.0.4. but MTP error was still scratching my head. Finally i got the solution. Keep it in mind that there is no problem with your PC neither with gnote. the main culprit is the APPS which you would have downloaded that prevent gnote to get connected to the PC due to some crappy security reasons. Do this to solve the issue:
1. go to settings>security>device administrators.
2. delete what ever is the device administrator since it is creating problem in your note due to some security reasons.
3. BOOM problem solved.
Now connect your gnote to PC. KIES will detect it and you are done.

Anyone, please help me fix the MTP issue on my note N7000. I bought the phone without the original usb cable and I had to buy a universal one, so I could connect it to my computer. So, I connected my phone to my laptop, then some drivers started to install. 3 of them had been installed, nut the MTP failed..I tried to reinstall all of the drivers, although I had been using another galaxy note before this one, but nothing worked...Now, when I connect the phone to my computer it shows "connected as media device", the computer sees the phone, but when I try to enter the SD or external SD card, it stucks and won't open...I need to fix this problem because I want to flash the phone via ODIN and won't work this way....please help me!!!

[Nook HD+] Nook HD+ will not get out of MTP Device mode

I've been working with leapinlar in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994129
to get my HD+ ready for sideloading and root. One thing to know up front is that I'm running with HD+ OS 2.0.2. I got to where the Nook shows up as a MTP Device (BNTV600 under Portable Devices in Win7 x64 Device Manager), but when I unplug the Nook, enable ADB, and plug it back in it keeps getting redetected as the MTP Device. I tried disabling and re-enabling multiple times, rebooting my PC, power cycling the Nook, different USB ports. Nothing seems to work. I used USBDeview to make sure there is nothing else with the same Vendor and Product ID installed (there isn't).
I have other BN drivers installed for my other Nooks (a Touch and Tablet). These have the same Vendor ID (2080) but different Product IDs. I don't think I should have to uninstall them, doesn't seem like that should be necessary.
The odd thing is, the first time I plugged the HD+ in to my PC ADB was accidentally already enabled. It was detected immediately as an Other Device as it should before installing the Android Composite driver. Once I disabled ADB and got MTP to install (and it does work - the HD+ is visible in File Manager) it will now never show up as a new Other Device with ADB enabled.
My apologies in advance, but I was hoping posting this in its own thread would maybe provide better visibility.
Per the NEW announcement,

I used USBDeview to make sure there is nothing else with the same Vendor and Product ID installed (there isn't).

I'm having the same problem. Were you able to get it working?
I think it has something to do with the OS being 64 bit and not being able to install the driver but it recognized it as an Android Composite Something once before I tried installing the driver on it and restarting but now it won't recognize it if I enable the developer option. It just keeps repeating the device disconected sound over and over and over OMG THE SOUND!
please let me know if you were able to fix it and how.
BTW, has ANYONE been able to get adb to work on win7 x64?
I had the same problem. I was able to fix it by going to the device manager and uninstalling the device listed under portable devices. Then when I unplugged and re-plugged in the HD, it showed up under Other Devices.

I've got it working with win7 64-bit and so does my husband.
Ok, I got it to work, somehow.
I'm not sure but here's what I think might have done it.
-with adb disabled connected the nook to the pc
-uninstalled device under portable device, it gets reinstalled automatically as BNTV600 under portable devices, again.
-restarted the nook and it's still recognized as BNTV600, without disconnecting it from the pc, enabled adb(which causes the pc to go into the annoying reconnect sound loop(now I noticed a usb mass storage device with the yellow yield sign with the exclamation mark so I decided to:
-click on the new device with the yield sign and select update device to install the device drivers for the adb(same as you would have tried normally before, just that this time it will work)
-check "adb devices" in command promt to make sure that it's being recognized
and that's pretty much what I think did it.
I think I've rooted it and enabled sideloading and disabled ota, I've yet to install any apps yet though. But there's this graphical glitch in the unlock screen which I think is a side effect from rooting(hope it isn't a glitch though...)
But yeah, I'm going to try installing an app now and will report back with my findings.
Thanks all for these suggestions. I had tried using various combinations of disbling / uninstalling but it never worked. I went to my Win XP Pro laptop and got it all hooked up in seconds that way.

This worked great for me as well, thanks so much! I'm struggling to figure out how to use ADB to install an APK that I extracted from my phone. Aptoide worked for every app I wanted that I hadn't paid for in google play. But I have three apps I'd like to install that Aptoide does not have because they are paid apps. I'm stuck where I am trying to use ADB. All of the APK installers did not recognize the files if I just moved them to my nook from the computer. These are the files on my SD card. View attachment 4649607
The highlighted ones installed but the red circled one was a paid app and it did not even get recognized by the installer. I've gotten as far as getting my nook to be recognized in command prompt. I'm attempting to use command prompt to install the .apk but I think it may be a problem with the .apk itself. Do you know how to go about that? This is where I get stuck.

My other struggle is that my nook also does not allow me to send anything to it. It connects. It's recognized but it will not allow files to go onto it.
I'm not sure what to do now. It doesn't let me type anything at this point and my nook doesn't even respond to the fact that I'm trying to send something to it. Please let me know if I'm doing it all wrong. I realize how green I am. I know this was forever ago for you so if you can't remember it's no biggie.

Thx to the Member brant34 of 4pd.ru who has uploaded the new Version from HiSuite.
The only Problem was that the Language was in Chinese, but i found a simple fix for that:
After you install the prog (you don't need to deinstall the old one, just update)
go to your'e userfolder than AppData/Local/HiSuite/userdata
(for this you need to unblock hidden files in foldersettings)
and open UserSettings.xml with an editor
change this Line:
Code:
<utpsdoc>
<language>
<active>[COLOR="Red"]_de[/COLOR]</active>
to your'e Language code example en:
Code:
<utpsdoc>
<language>
<active>[COLOR="Red"]_en-us[/COLOR]</active>
Now you can start the Programm :highfive:
You can find all available Language codes under
Win 32bit
C Programms/HiSuite/LanguageFiles/
Win 64bit
C Programms (x86) /HiSuite/LanguageFiles/
DOWNLAOD

This version is now also in SK language
others must be checked

May be you can try on another computer to see if it's the application or the PC/OS...
these versions are still in developpement, but show a good evolution...
perhaps

Perhaps you must give permissions to the cell phone to communicate with the software HISUITE !!! in the developer options press on USB debugging, on the contrary you cannot access the cell phone !!!!

2.3.35 working and translated following your tutorial, thanks
In my configuration I needed to give hisuite.exe permission for outgoing TCP to 127.0.0.1 or it would not connect

My test machine is running windows 7 64bits with Windows Firewall Control to manage permissions, it depends on your configuration. Hisuite also called home at 44% progress during backup and resumed after connection failed.
Adb needs also to connect to localhost so if you didnt add a rule for that you shouldnt need one now.
In case is of any use, this is how I updated:
I installed over v1.8, during pc installation and before choosing target path I took a copy of hisuite.apk from windows temp folder and installed it by hand on my device so it upgraded to v2.3.35. I also saved a copy of .apk on sdcard
After checking backup and restore worked ok I tested backward compatibility: I connected the phone to another pc with hisuite 1.8, which replaced hisuite.apk with an older version. Disconnected and back to test machine with latest version which failed to connect and transfer .apk, I then updated manually to latest hisuite.apk. on the phone and worked.
it seams latest hisuite.apk is not backward compatible.
I also found what I believe is a nice feature, under contacts -> message there is a button to place calls from the desktop.
Test it together with 'Speaker Mode' apk and worked ok!
