Just finished watching the Playstation Gamescom conference and when they got around to the Playstation Mobile segment I was pleasantly surprised to find that Sony has partnered with Asus to bring Playstation Mobile to Asus devices. Though with the Nexus 7 being the official Google tablet it only makes sense really. I look forward to playing Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Driver, Syphon Filter and MediEvil on my Nexus 7 in the future
It was also said that if you buy something on one device it will be available to ALL your PS certified devices, for anyone out there who has a Sony phone or a PS Vita or for some reason, one of those unfortunately horrible looking Sony tablets ><

Haha sounds awesome. Do you have a link where we could read more?

I wonder if it will apply to the Nexus 7 though. It's really a Google device manufactured by ASUS.

Would there be a benefit to this over a emulator?

The game would be likely optimized for our devices. I don't think tegra3 optimized, but updated for newer more powerful processors. So the same game should run better natively than on emulator. But FPse emulator with open gl plugin looks great.
Looking forward to this partnership. Almost positive this includes nexus 7 also. Since its made by Asus. Being partnered with Google doesn't negate that.

You mentioned cross compatibility, does this include the PS3?

Don't get too excited...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Mobile_games
And it is still under "beta" stage... sort of......
And it is mostly 1st generation games... or possibly up to "some" PS2 games down the line... although, some original "titles" for PS Mobile could be interesting...
But if you are looking for PSX games... I think you will be better off with FPSE emulator.

My xperia. S is playstation certified, all i get is ps1.games. I would not think that we are gonna get ps3.games!

I don't think the Nexus 7 is getting this at all. Looks like it's just for the Transformer tablets...
""Inspired by the diverse needs of consumers in all areas and phases of life, ASUS' foremost mission is to deliver truly innovative solutions that inspire consumers to reach for greater heights of productivity and fun. The ASUS Transformer Pad, which can transform from tablet to Notebook PC delivers this value," said Samson Hu, Corporate Vice President & GM of Mobile Communications Products BU at ASUSTeK Computer Inc. "As a leading enterprise in the new digital era, ASUS offers PlayStation-like gaming experiences with the convenience of its array of products. Hell I'll just be glad if they allow PS3 controllers to sync up without 3rd party apps.

Not without flashing some files via clockwork recovery. Nexus 7 isn't PS certified. Yet....

It works, I installed it last night and added the require jar and permissions xml. I was trying to see if there is a free game to test with but they all cost money. I'm not going to do much with it as I am still pissed about the huge security breach while back and refuse to use my credit card on their network.
Edit: Here is the link I used to get it working on my N7

Lets hope you don't have an Xbox, as their security breach was much bigger, cost alot of people REAL money, and Microsoft have just been keeping quiet about the problem.

At least Sony were honest and upfront about it, yet the press still raped them over it. Nobody ever lost any money or details on the PSN hack, it all turned out to be blown out of all proportion. There was no CC fraud, Sony never stored CC numbers, and no rise in identity fraud was ever seen as a result of it.
( we all know the hidden agenda - American press pushing the American console).

Thank goodness I don't store my CC on Xbox as well. Security breaches happens all the time, thats not the point of this thread. I was just stating that I have not tried any of the games yet because I don't have one on file. I do see that PSN has redeem vouchers like Xbox, so I might get one so I could get some games.

He means its a good idea however it is probably going to be hard to set-up/make work.
Some more explaining
The idea is an online service that connects a number of devices through their different applications to a service that allows them to communicate and interact with each other through the service that works around the limitations the devices and device apps present. The end product will be cloud based. That means that it will stream to the designated device while being operated by the companies’ server, allowing for a broader spectrum of devices to gain access to the service devices such as low end mobile phones will have the opportunity to play games that are usually designated for the high end devices. Large server clusters will be set up to allow that kind of service to operate.
Tonixx allows people with mobile smart phones to connect and play games with each other regardless of their operating system. This is made possible by creating a client over a cloud server that is placed on a web browser like infrastructure that can be accessed by every smartphone that passes the minimum requirements for the service. While there will be standalone applications for each of the major operating systems, the web browser interface practically gave us a way to overcome programming issues related to compiling the different Operating system factors into one platform that would work for all.

Apple and Android already have cross platform real time multi player games.
Android has games cross platform compatible with the 360 and PS3, the problem is Microsoft and Sony not wanting their games cross platform compatible.
There is also the PlayOn service with cloud gaming, where IOS, Android , and PC users can play actual PS3 and 360 games. This service works extremely well

No I Know They Have Cros Platform Multiplayer Games
And I Know That There Are Services That Will Come Out Within A Year That Will Offer Real PS3/XBOX 360 Games To Mobile Users....
Thing Is
There Is NO Single United Mobile Gaming Platform Out There That Allows Gamers From Different OS Platforms To Play ONLY Mobile Games With Each Other (The Mobile Only Restriction Is So Much More Mobile Users Can Use Our Service Due To The Significantly Higher Mimimum Requirements For High End Desktop Games)

You sure? I'm pretty sure it's cross-platform.
Gameloft games on Android are missing lots of features and the initial ports are buggy and lacks lots of features like Native gamepad support, less special effects than iOS versions, bad customer support, etc... . Gloft games on iPhone 4 are better than my galaxy S which has a better GPU and lower res screen Wake up Gameloft!
Cheers Gameloft! You guys have an amazing consumer support lol!

I don't get what's going on? I've noticed that on different phones, my Gameloft data would either save on the phone itself or the phone's SD card. It changed depending on the phone. Right now, the data saves on my SD card. So that's why when I flash my phone, my Gameloft data is still there. My G2 saved the data on the phone, so I had to re-download every time.
That's probably what they were talking about when referring to Android/data/Gameloft
Also, I had some games save in /Gameloft/Name-of-Game and sometimes Gameloft/gameloft-data.
It was different for every Gameloft game I had.
Is that the problem I'm reading? Did I comprehend it correctly? Or am I just way off. =.P

They do try. Customer support hasn't been terrible for me through Gameloft, although some things were not 100% resolved, but very close. People are complaining about iOS being more favorable than android, but with android they have to come up with so many different versions to become compatible, and iOS they don't and it is just much easier for them to code it all.

The initial ports for Android are rushed and not optimized. Gangstar Rio is the prime example - iPad files for my Galaxy S? WTF?!
I'm pretty sure Gameloft makes games in C++ and uses the Android NDK to port it over to Android like this.

Google Fiber (TV service)

http://www.theverge.com/2012/7/26/3188845/google-fiber-tv
Looks like Google is getting into the television service providing game. $120/mo is waaay too high for TV IMO. Thoughts?
The free Nexus 7 is nice (but not $120 a month nice since it's $250 for the 16gb), being able to stream from Android devices is nice, but with a service like tv the only way they can oust the monopolies is to beat them on price point. I can't justify spending $120 a month on just tv when I get internet and tv for less than $100 from my local monopoly.
Take out the commercials without the use of the dvr then I might justify paying that much. Also if you are going to play reruns dont just rerun 12 different episodes
LOL Cool idea but too expensive.

I've never understood the idea of commercials on anything other than the free over the air channels. I already pay for the tv service, why am I being advertised to like I didn't?!
Google fiber is also a broadband networking service in Kansas city

That's cool but definitely not worth 120 a month.

You're paying to be able to receive the channels, you're not paying for the channel itself (that's why starz, hbo, and cinemax are extra, they don't have commercials).
Depends though.. What exact features are coming with the package? I mean it is a bit pricey, but if it offers something another service won't besides a free Nexus 7 "Win!" Than it would be worth looking into.
From my understanding it would be wise to drop DirectTV and Dish at this point because I've heard they dropped plenty of channels an average consumer watches, AMC/Comedy Central etc.
I'd be using Verizon right now if my apartment supported them :/
Have to rely on crappy charter unfortunately.

It is free internet, can't really complain? Household average, seems about correct. Charter gives me about 10-20mbps "Not really" they are ripping me off completely even after I've complained and argued.
I was suppose to be getting 30mbps, charter is not trust worthy at all.
But.. you get the Google package, wade out the two years :/ you have a nexus 7, free internet and now you can drop them for the low package (which I didn't see them mention in the article) for ever how much it is. Then get the bad ass internet.
I'm sure its more complicated than that but from a gist that's what I gathered someone would probably do.

Anybody else see VHS VS. Betamax parallels to Android VS iPhone?

I don't know where this thought line came from but I just started thinking and I'm seeing a surprising amount of parallels between the "Videotape format war" and the current Android vs. iPhone war.
Here are just a few (that I'm sure people will be able to add to) :
1.VHS was the cheaper format which was a big factor in it's dominance; Android has gotten on to so many devices in so many different price ranges just about anyone can afford a Smartphone. Betamax was the choice of people with disposable income and videophiles; iPhone is sold at a significant markup for people with excess money to buy as a status symbol.
2. VHS and Betamax entered a sort of race to fit as much video recording space on their respective format; Android and iPhone are engaged in a crazy war of features one-up-manship (coining the word now).
3. VHS won because it was the cheaper and more available format; Android is dominating as far as marketshare for being cheaper and far more widespread (just about anyone can have an Android phone, even people with older WinMo phones, looking at HTC HD2).
Anybody else see anything or am I just making connections that aren't there?
I thought we weren't allowed to have android vs apple threads because they would lead to too much flaming
IB4L
JKJKJKJKJKJKJKJK
It's not an Apple vs Android thread. It's a comparison between format wars in the 80s to the current Smart Phone war. If the mods don't see any potential for actual discussion here they can and should close it.
Isn't point 1 and point 3 the same point?.

Good point. I see them as different because 1 is just a comparison of what the formats have become from a consumer standpoint and 3 is a comparison of the winner of the Format war and what appears to be becoming the winner of the Smart Phone war.
I would consider it pretty accurate to say that price is going to be the deciding factor. The Nexus 7 has been a massive success for Google and I think it's going to represent a paradigm shift in the tablet market.
VHS vs betamax is completely different to the phone market. Different phones have different price points, hardware and software. VHS vs betamax is similar to HD vs Blueray. And in those situations there can only be one winner for mass production and international exports, so companies will make it so there is only 1 winner. There will never be 1 phone manufacturer there are too many variables, target market groups and consumer preferences.

I see Apple as Laserdisc - beefy, better sound quality, first consumer disc based format, goes out of style real fast.
I see Android as DVD - more streamlined, easier to transport, better use of space for the money.
I loved my laserdiscs for the novelty, but I'll stick with DVD any day of the week.

What about HD DVD and bluray?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
That wasn't even a war, that was a skirmish between a first-world power and three kids from down the street with supersoakers. HD DVD never stood a chance with only one studio and a paltry number of manufacturers backing it. Bluray had Sony and Panasonic on board off the rip and pretty much every major studio except for MGM I believe. I didn't pay that much attention except to not that HD DVD was going to go down hard so if nothing else had decided me on a PS3 over XBox 360 that would have.
I can't believe I still have a betamax machine, with tons of vhs video... but no vhs player or betamax tapes.
Does this mean I will end up with an iphone that has no apps, and lots of android software?
Absolutely!
Hey, I googled "iPhones and android like VHS and Beta". and your comment here was second on the Google search page, so I had to join to agree. Iphones are too exclusive and a nightmare doing most things that are not with Apple compatible software (like trying to download gmail). It will be there downfall.
Never heard that argument comparison. It's not a great one tbh. It's incredibly favorable to have a Universal media format (i.e. bluray hd dvd), not so much for phones.
I know this is an old post, but still relevant in 2017
Virgin Mobile U.S.A. just went all Apple, no more android phones. Another pet peeve: the usb ports. We had Mini-B and went to Micro-B. USB ports should have all been standardized in my opinion. I have older chargers with with mini-b usb type that are useless now because most electronics are using the micro-b type.
I sort of understand the Blu-ray vs Dvd and at least most players can use both.

Bestbuy has Moga Power A Bluetooth Controller for $23.99.

I believe this is an in-store price because it is more online. This is supposed to be an excellent controller for use with the GVR. It's normally $59.99. Not all stores carry this so check online before venturing out. Here's the SKU: 1883244.

I just bought it for that much in the store about an hour ago. Here's the web link for the online price. If you are hesitant please call ahead for pricing:

From what I've read, B-mode is best for non Moga games.

Yeah it did. They have changed that lately. You may have to re-enter the zip code again manually.
Called my Best Buy and they said it's been discontinued so it can only be bought in store. Bummer

Probably why it's a good deal. You don't have any in stores near you?
Checked and called within 50 miles near me and they've all said the same thing. I even showed them your post and they said they've discontinued it. :/

probably not going to show inventory online but might luck out by going and walking through the store, what section do they keep them in? gaming? or cellular
Well they may be mistaken about the discontinue as they have them advertised for sale online and my best buy had 4.

They usually have a small hook of them by the phone cases and an end display between console games and computer accessories, depending on store layout. Your best bet would be to go for the Power Pro (same generation, but "premium") on Amazon or somewhere that has it discounted. It is far more comfortable and still fits into the Gear VR bag by propping it in the area meant for the Sammy one.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/power-a...ices/1883244.p?id=1219066387956&skuId=1883244 <- That is what comes up for the SKU. They are $36.99 and it is the Moga Hero, so chances are they will not price match based on a rumor. Usually discontinued items are marked or regular price on the site, not on sale.
The Hero line is known for being problematic. They do some interesting things with the buttons, such as sending out buffer codes. It is not something you may see as an end user, so long as the apps you use it with have accounted for use with the Hero.
If the controller didn't work for you, that may work to your advantage. Before returning it, it is a good idea to contact Moga. Moga doesn't do recalls, they discontinue the controller and then do warranty replacements for a similar item. They have done the same thing with their console controllers and you can buy a $30 PS3 controller and with one phone call a week or so of waiting, come out with a $60 Xbox controller.
My thoughts on the Hero are not based on experience with the Gear VR specifically, they are based on experience with designing the controller interface for an emulator. Moga releases a general plug-in for Unity, so chances are using it with the Gear VR exclusively will never present the issues. The plugin for Android as a whole requires you design a separate interface just for the Hero, which unless you use their SDK, is when you begin to notice the eccentricities.

You're better off waiting for a sale on the Power Pro or praying it's broken out of the box. Moga tends to cut all ties to discontinued hardware, but their warranty repair is to replace it with a current model.

What?!
Mine works fine and for $24 is a steal. I really can't be worried about "continued support". I mean, it's a controller - how much support does it need? You turn it on, you press the buttons, boom boom. Don't think I'll be calling support for a walk-through. *SMH*
My BestBuy had 3 flavors, the Pro, an iPhone model and this one. They sold them in the mobile section. The Pro version was very expensive and not on sale. The online inventory thing did show they had these in 3 stores in my region.
The problem with "waiting on a Pro version sale" is waiting on a Pro version sale. Are you willing to wait months (if ever) just to save a few bucks on a controller? Kind of ridiculous plan assuming you actually want a controller anytime soon.

I prefer not to run out and buy something because I saw one thread about it on xda. That is how you end up with $200 in hardware that you have to post all over xda bashing. It is better to be absolutely sure it is the device you want, not just the one that was on sale. Whether or not you want to be impatient is your discretion. I am only providing the info I found through a lot of research before I bought the Moga Power Pro that has stuck with me through three devices.
Other cheap but extremely well-rated controllers that do not require special software:

And here is the Hero Power with a regular price of $33 on Amazon. Obviously you aren't missing a great sale if you wait a week to see if the other one goes on sale first.

Thanks for links. Those are all significantly more expensive than the model discussed in the OP and the last one isn't even a controller at all, it's a clip.
