[Review] *Update 28DEC12* Extremely Thin Smart Cover like Apple "aka Ebay case"
** Updated GPS issue at the bottom**
This is going to be a quick review of the "Google Nexus 7 Slim Magnetic PU Leather Smart Cover Case Stand w/ Stylus- Black" Case from Ebay. Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Google-Nexu...ccessories&hash=item2320f701ac#ht_2989wt_1271. I bought this case from ebay last week for $11.95 with free 3 day shipping. The shipping was extremely fast and it arrived in 2 days.
I have received a few PM's asking about the quality of the case so this review will address a few of the questions from others. If you would like any more information please ask below and I will answer them as quickly as I can.
Build Quality: The snap on backing is hard plastic with no internal padding. In every day use your hand does not come in contact with this hard material because of the wrapped cover. I would compare it in feel to the silver bezel surrounding the Nexus 7 screen. The flap is a type of plastic (NOT PU LEATHER) on the outside with a softer felt on the inside. It reminds me of a picnic table cover you would use in the summer with the waterproof plastic top and thin soft touch backing. The flap is held onto the casing with clear glue and you do not see unless you pry is back and start looking for it. While it does not feel overly expensive in the hand it does not feel cheap either. It does not compare to my wife's apple smart cover which was $50, but at a little over $10 I do not expect it to.
Folding: The case folded in the closed position makes the device exactly as thick as my tpu case. (A good way to tell it has limited protection capability.) Additionally the only part of the case still exposed after the backing is snapped on is the silver bezel, a known weak part on the Nexus. The flap covers it up... but that will only help to keep the bezel from getting scratched. When folded closed the volume and on/off screen are covered. This is not an issue because of the "smart cover" feature. I also want to note that when the case is folded and you are using it to watch movies it is extremely stable. you can push on it and it will not fall over.
The cover has 2 sets of weak magnets. One set is used for the smart cover (yes it works) and the other is on the edge that holds it closed. When you roll the cover up to make a stand the magnet meet much like an apple smart cover to keep it from unfolding. When the cover is folded back on itself it does not shut off the screen as seen on the initial moko/blurex cases.
Improvements: The one note I have for the magnets is that they are weak. I am sure this was to ensure that the cover does not turn off the device when folded back. The problem is that until my case gets broken in.... The magnets have a hard time keeping the case in the folded position as a stand. It stays closed very well when pressure is on the case or after you push down on the creases. I posted a pic of it working. Where it is weak is after you open the case and fold the cover into the triangle... just prior to setting it down it will sometimes unfold itself unless I hold it. It has been improving over the last 2 days as the plastic gets more broken in.
Would I recommend? The answer is based on price. At around $10 it is a great case. Very thin and works well as advertised. I keep my flight publications on it and keep it in my pocket 24/7 and for this application it works great. I am glad I got it. As the price starts to climb around $15+ I do not think the quality justifies that kind of money. Reading other forums it looks like the Poetic Portfolio has started shipping and it looks like a good option for $20. At $11.95 I am glad I bought this one. I use this case as my daily however I still think I will get nicer one in a few months. I have a Moko slim leather case, moko tpu case and this one and out of all of them I like this the best for traveling.
** Update **
I use my Nexus 7 for aviation maps when I fly. I have a bluetooth GPS I normally use as well as an s-style tpu case that I put it in. A few days ago I unexpectedly went flying and could not change cases or get my GPS. My Nexus was having a fit trying to get satellites. It would find them only if it had direct exposure to the sky. As I am sure you know this is not a normal characteristic, normally in my tpu case it is spot on. I did not think to much of it (I was preoccupied).
Two days later I received a PM from Amt0571 asking if I ever noticed the case interferes with the use of Google Sky. I installed the application and Amt0571was spot on. I am making a loose correlation that the case was also weakening my GPS signal. Not failing it but under harder condition like tracking am aircraft at 170 MPH inside a metal fuselage it weakens it just enough for it to get lost. Thanks Amt0571 for bringing that to everyone's attention.
The case still works great, just keep this in mind for specific applications. I would still trust it for driving.
**Update 28DEC12**
I am sorry to say that I woke up today to a stress crack on my case. I know many of out have posted this throughout the thread however up until today this case has been perfect. I have used this case as my daily since I bought it. I removed the case on the weekends. I have not decided if I am going to buy a new one. I do LOVE this case I just want to check out my other options. I will post what case I decide to go with.
Hope this helps. I will post pics in a few from my phone.

Great review, thanks!

Good pics too, pocketability is important to me and that one looks pretty good, certainly less bulky than the one I'm currently using.

Update: in the review I mentioned that the weak magnets have a hard time keeping the cover folded as a stand. As I have continued to break in the case this issue has resolved itself. The case is getting better each day. Traveled with it all day and I am so glad I bought it.

thanks for the review mate - glad I actually ordered one; waiting for it to arrive today or tomorrow

Ordered the same case from a different seller... I love the case. I noticed the same weakness in the magnet... As the case flap loosened up it got better.

Great review! Could you post a pic where the case is folded all the way back? (with the leather folding behind the plastic casing if you know what i mean)
I like to "tighten" it when i'm having in it my hands, but i'm not sure whether the "flap" is going to be annoying here.
Thanks in advance

please note the location of the magnets behind the screen sensor. Even in this position with TWO sets of magnets behind the sensor the screen does not turn itself off!

As requested. It does not bother me. Normally I make 2 folds to keep the cover under the case. Sorry for the low quality pics and bad lighting. I am traveling for work and am in a hotel.
**update** I wanted to make note that as I continue to use this case the folds continue to get tighter and the case will lie more flat against the backing when folded. That is a good thing, not that it was ever thick it just makes it more comfortable to hold.

Thanks, i was wondering if it was going to be a problem, couldn't find pictures anywhere else. Thanks, will go buy one right away

Received mine today. For the price, it's a good bargain.

Really nice review and pics, I am digging the thin-ness of it

Looks like a decent case. Too bad the seller raised their prices. If this was around 10 or 11 bucks I would probably order one.

does the case protect the nexus completely - is the bezel fully covered when the case is closed?

Please look at the pics and the description in the first post. No the bezel is not completely covered by the case backing, however it is covered when the cover is closed. My case is completely back so the silver you see is the actual nexus 7 bezel. I posted pics above. I am liking this case more and more as it breaks in. It protects the nexus 7 very well.

I have it in red but I'm also getting the Poetic case. I'll sell this one to you for twelve bucks shipped since I can't return it on eBay. Let me know if you want it.

Wow selling it before you get the poetic case... someone has high hopes for a case that was recalled on the first shipment. Just kidding. What don't you like about it? Please explain so we are all aware.

Okay so I've had mine for about a day now and I can proudly say that I'm very happy with it and glad that I waited out for a couple of weeks for it to become available.
Works very well and I love the minimalistic design. Looks great in gray too.. Thinking of grabbing another one in blue or purple to interchange the colours. Couple of pics below..
For just under $15, this case is a real bargain. Much prefer this style over the leather folio cases that are out in the market at the moment.

With the cover closed would the corners of the bezel be protected if you dropped it from say the couch/sofa? Also if its closed would it be safe enough in your coat pocket?

Yep it should be enough protection if dropped from a couch/sofa as the back casing covers the lower portion of the front bezel - it's only the top portion of the front bezel which is not fully covered. Also the front flap would help to create a bit of cushioning for the front bezel too, if it were dropped from that height. And yes, I would say it's safe enough in a coat pocket when closed.

Official Samsung TPU Case (Lots of pics!)

I really like these cases.
Here are some pictures (sorry, I took them in low light with the Galaxy S3):
I got the black and white cases, I personally like the white one more, but the black is also nice.

The case is very sturdy and very nice to the touch. It's kind of slippery, but it feels fine in the hand.
It doesn't hinder the Spen. I've had other cases for this note, and the original, and the Spen on some cases were impossible to take out
Buttons are easily accessible and they're raised! FINALLY! They're easy and clicky! Also, it has a charm loop or a lanyard loop.
Here are some pics of the black one
The cases are easy to apply and the phone basically snaps on, it's not a tight tight fit, but it's not going to come out on its own. It's snug in there, but you don't feel bad having to press really hard or anything like that to get the case off. It basically just comes out with ease.
These cases are going to be my daily drivers for a while, until something better comes along. I usually like Samsung cases. I love the S3 cases and now the Note 2 cases. The only thing I wish it had was the silicon flap to cover the USB or the headphone jack (or both!) to not let any dust in.
Hit thanks if this review has helped you or you just like the pics Or if you'd like me to continue reviewing cases I buy .
Thanks for reading!
Regards,
ZKYEVOLVED
Update: I have been getting a lot of PMs about where I got the case. I finally ordered it from here: CLICK, 15 euros.
On another thread (this thread) I had found some ebay links, and then I found some stores
All you need to do is search for the model number of the one you're looking for:
Black case: EFC-1J9BBEG
White case: EFC-1J9BWE
Pink case: I don't remember sorry!
Hope I've helped!
UPDATE: Today is my birthday, and last night I went out with some friends and I used this case. Oh my... The dark photos were ... let's just say that they could be used for Paranormal Activity 10! The white case gives off a reflection! Check this out. I don't recommend the white case if you're going to take night time pictures with flash. Without flash the pictures were fine, but the white edges of the case reflect and kind of destroyed the pictures. The reflection kind of threw off the rest of the picture (exposure, white balance, not to mention the spirit appearing at the bottom of my picture)!
Thanks for posting so many pics. I just ordered one of the white ones today and feel more secure in my decision after seeing your post. I'm currently using one of the generic "folio" type cases off of Amazon and was looking for something that was less awkward to use while I wait for Otterbox to release the Commuter/Defender cases.
It's disappointing to hear the cases are a little slippery. I was hoping for quite a bit of grip improvement.

The back plate is a slippery (and on the black, it's a fingerprint magnet, as you can see!) but the sides are rubber, and it won't slide out of your hand if you're holding the sides. But the back itself is slippery. It's plastic... Of course it is! It's SAMSUNG!

I'm glad to have helped! I'm really content with the cases. You can tell that they've been made specifically for this phone. All the details are there for the ports and buttons. It is actually slimmer than my other TPU cases.
I'm not a fan of folio cases because I don't want to cover the LED Notification light, or when it's open cover the camera! They're probably two of the most important features about this phone for me.
get the bodyglove :good:
Looks like a winner so far.. still waiting for one to arrive. For now using the body glove case

thanks! just ordered the white one based on the pictures (especially since my white tpu case from asia is taking forever to get here).
hope this case isn't too thick. i need a tpu case for accidental drops, but with minimal added thickness.

I ordered mine on the 25th and shipped out on the 27th. I'm in SoCal USA and it shipped from Dallas, TX.
Received and agree on all points. Fit is superb. Yeah, it's a little slippery on that glossy back piece but you're going to be gripping the rubbery sides so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Those raised plastic button covers on the sides for the volume and power are indeed nice and very assuring to the touch. It's not as thick as I thought it would be from seeing the pics.
Only con is it does add more weight than I would prefer but I feel more secure with the phone inside so I can deal with it.
My new favorite case over the Nilkin that exposed the top and bottom of the phone. :victory:
mine shipped today. I usually dont use cases, but i gotta say i loved the way the samsung cases looked on the GS3, looking so thin, i barely even noticed people had cases on them when i saw people pull them out. gotta love the samsung 50% off coupon too, ordered the tectiles and charging dock and battery. ( rE155266e coupon code)
I've received some PMs about where I got my cases from. It's a company here in Madrid. Their website is www.Octilus.com, they had the cheapest price I could find and their shipping was only 1€. I'm enjoying the cases highly recommended.

I was concerned about adding bulk to this sexy device, but I can safely say its a non-issue with this..
I got my black case yesterday and I'm very pleased with fit and finish. I don't think it's possible for a case to add less bulk and provide similar protection. The hard back does show finger prints and finger oil smears very clearly but no big deal and overall looks better than the T-mobile logo IMHO. Soft sides provide good grip and the charcoal gray color looks very good with the front bezels of titanium model. It didn't seem like a tight fit going on but doesn't seem loose in use. I imagine a little looseness is a good thing when it comes to shock adsorption and I believe the rubber sides will grip well enough to prevent the phone from separating during most falls. The edge surrounding the screen is raised enough to keep it from touching a flat surface when face down but just barely. I expect the screen could make contact if the phone is dropped on an irregular surface. I have a Spigen SGP Ultra Clear screen protector for that situation and highly recommend it as well. I can't even tell it's there from looks or function. Invisible to the eye and S-pen with cut outs for camera, proximity and light sensors as well as the speaker and home button. Feels like the native glass to finger and pen might actually feel better with a very very slight and benefitial increase in drag. So slight it may be imaginary.

Got my white one today. Looks amazing. Now come on Verizon, send me my GN2!!! Getting the case is just a teaser!
Ordered the black for myself and white for the wife. Still waiting on them to get here, we usually only use Speck cases but since Speck has not came out with one yet These will have to do. Plus we got each of them for 50% off for registering our phones on the Samsung site.

Packaging:
No need to dwell on this one. Package arrived with no issues. I opened the Fed-Ex box and found the case secure within a plastic packaging. No annoying sealed edges to cut or deal with.
What's included:
Inside the box are a few items:
A silicone flexible "inner" piece
A soft-touch hard "outer/skeleton" piece
A soft-touch hard Multi-Purpose Cover
There are also instructions for those who have a difficult time with these kinds of things
Instructions:
There are instructions (as is normal with Seidio products) in the shape of the device. The directions fit inside the case in an attempt to replicate the product. No special tools or triple jointed body parts needed!
Next there are also instruction stickers attached to the soft-touch hard "outer" shell and the Multi-Purpose Cover. Personally I saw these as overkill but you never know when someone may need it or can't figure it out. Fortunately these additional directions are just pictures. These secondary directions are pretty well stuck on there and are not made to peel off (in case anyone wants to know). They frankly annoyed me for the first day. Now I don't even notice them.
Quality:
A+!!! Seidio nailed it with this one! Everything lines up great. Headphone jack, speaker, microphone(s) and charging port all have ample clearance. The power buttons and volume keys also line up perfectly with the physical keys that say hidden underneath the case.
Silicone Flexible Inner Piece:
A+ As mentioned above, EVERYTHING lines up perfect. Nothing to note here. Easy as pie to put on. Easy as pie to take off.
Soft-Touch Hard Outer Shell:
A+ A lot of reviews refer to this piece as the Skeleton as it is what gives the case it's strength. To be honest, that makes a lot of sense. This piece is what makes the case useful and sets it apart from the standard case.
This Outer Shell/Skeleton is a hard plastic that features Seidio's signature soft touch. It's not slick at all. This shell literally "clips" right onto the the silicone piece and is a TIGHT fit. It's not easy to remove (at all) so you don't have to worry about it falling off. It's there and it's on there TIGHT!
When you order a different color case, this is the piece that varies, the inner silicone and multi-purpose cover will remain the same.
***As is, Seidio sells JUST the combination mentioned above but they also sell a combination that includes the Multi-Purpose Cover (mentioned below)***
Multi-Purpose Cover:
A- Let me start by saying this. I have the book-style cover on my kindle. It's great for books and if that's your preference. Personally, I wasn't about to put one on my Nexus 7. Personal preference.
That being said, the idea behind this Multi-Purpose Cover is what sold me and it, mostly, does the same things that all those popular iProduct and Nexus/Kindle cases do. In my opinion, this blows them out of the water. Here is why: every case I've seen has a landscape (and occasionally portrait) option. Each of those cases usually can sit at 2 or 3 angles. If you don't want the front cover of the book-style your only option is to take it out of the case or use the funky-elastic straps to snag the front of the Nexus and hold in it place. I refused to do this because I feel that this looks TERRIBLE!
Enter the Multi-Purpose Cover! There are indents on the corners of the Outer Shell/Skeleton that line up in all directions with the cover. Basically it clips on and stays on (for as long as you want it to) whenever you want to store the cover on the front or back of the device. I was easily able to pick up the case and shake it around with the Nexus attached without fear of it falling.
If you want it on the back of the case, you can put it on. If you don't want it on the back of the case, you can take it off. If you are transporting the Nexus, you can put it on. If you aren't and are just using it around the house, you can take it off. There is plenty of room between the cover and the screen of the Nexus 7 when in place over the screen to help prevent damage to our fragile toys.
If you want to use it as a stand, you can! There is a piece built into the cover that folds out and acts as a stand. Not only that, but there are 10 angles you can choose from to use the cover as a stand. I must say that this piece feels a bit clumsy and I am curious to see how this holds up long term.
When using the cover as a stand there are long rubber feet that help prevent the the stand from sliding across a desk or table.
I only have two dislikes about the cover which is what gives the cover itself a A- rating. First, when in landscape mode it feels like there is a bit of wiggle (front and back) where the Nexus sits in the stand. It doesn't seem to affect anything but it's worth noting. That being said, it didn't stop me from using it. It works great when working on projects in bed, etc. Second, there isn't a viable option to use the stand in portrait mode (if I ever wanted to) as the Nexus 7 would only be resting on one tab of the cover. I feel that this is an oversight that could have been corrected with perhaps a longer middle tab. Perhaps it'll be worked on in future versions. Either way, as long as you know these two things going in, you'll be happy.
It's also worth noting that having the Cover on the Nexus 7 does not seem to effect the sound quality of music/video.
Overall:
A In my opinion this is the best product I've ever seen Seidio produce. It's simple and to the point. It protects our beloved Nexus and looks good doing so. It withstands the pressures that the day to day activities can throw at it.
We've all seen the horror stories of the glass on the Nexus 7 breaking too easily. This was one of my MAIN reasons for wanting a case for it. I can confidently say that this case has alleviated those concerns. I've had the Nexus in the outer pockets of my luggage and in my gym bag and have put them through their standard uses and the case (and more importantly the Nexus) have come out completely unscathed!
Is it worth $34 bucks ($44 with the cover) when an ebay case can be had for 1/4 to 1/2 the price? I would most definitely say YES!
Want one? You can find them at Seidio's website by clicking HERE!
If anyone has any questions about the case or would like additional photos, be sure to let me know. I'm in the process of moving so responses may be delayed. :good:

I was going to say that's too big to fit in my cargo pocket but the case I'm currently using is an easy 3/4". What is the overall length with the cover on? that's crucial.

This case does not have the sleep function in the cover, right? Was torn between this one and the FitFolio from Speck. I went with Speck. But I am drawn to this one for some reason. It is Otterbox-esque. I have 7 & 5 year olds. Great review.

I found a small but powerful magnet (it came from an old phone holster) taped it to inside of the seidio cover above where the sleep sensor is (the part / side that has the stand and the area would be about 1/4 inches inside of the pogo pins) and sleep function works..... You can use felt tape, or even crazy glue... ymmv....

So the magnet is high enough that it never comes in contact with the nexus?
does the border of the case around the screen seem like it gets in the way when holding the device and swiping the screen or anything?

For me, not at all.
Thanks a lot. I was going to order the Speck Fit Folio, but I'm a bit paranoid and worried about drops. I also have cats and dogs at my place, and I don't need them knocking it over or something.
Thanks OP. I really like this case. Its just what I need. It looks way better than the roo case I'm using now. Plus it will keep slim profile. I think I will order this this weekend. With too case, the corners are stil exposed. This case seems like the best protection overall fpr nexus 7.
how about the bulkiness off the case, just ordered mine from seidio, so i should find out myself by next week. The gf said it looks to be very much a guy case when i asked her what she thought of it, but i always find myself spending the money in order to protect my investments in devices. looks much bettter than the fake leather cases that fold like a book.

Ebay case arrived today!!!!!!

Well I only had to swallow my pride for about a day because my new ebay case arrived today after only having ordering it about a day and a half ago so off goes pink and grey and on come white on white. I really wanted a white case since i opted gor the white Note 2 it just didnt seem right to put any other case on it. So here are a few pics. To me I would compair it to a siedio since it is a two piece case consisting of a silica rubber case and a plastic outer shell. The case also has a built in stand for watching movies as well as a holster whose belt clip doubles as a stand as well.
I tried to put the Note 2 with the pink and grey body glove case on it in the holster but it was too loose and would not stay so that lead me to believe that this combo in thick but not by much which equals more protection to me.
The case and holster were only about $12 bucks shipped and it is an unbranded unit but better built then some of the units I have seen that people have purchased off ebay.
I am happy with the case, I may or may not purchase a "Big Name Brand" case in holster in the future but only if it comes in white.

I just got this case in black, it's really very nice. I like that it covers all the buttons and the ports, it really provides some great protection. Having two options for stands is nice too.
Thanks for posting this, I just ordered one myself. I had a few questions if you don't mind. How does the overall fit of the case, is it easy to put on and take back off? How much thicker does it actually make the phone? Does it attract lint/dust when it's in your pocket, or is it too big to carry around in your pocket.
Link to ebay please??

.i ordered a case that had a similar belt clip for my GS2 and i broke the clip...TWICE
please comment on whether or not the belt clip seems secure (if it will snap off easily or not)...both times i broke it i barely even touched it
with a phone this large i can see it getting caught somewhere or banging into something
also...does the phone fit properly in the holster (when the screen is facing out) so that you can actually use the kickstand feature? not the kickstand that is connected to the case...im asking about the kickstand that is connected to the belt holster... the one i bought for my GS2 didnt...it only fit when the screen was faced inwards
Thanks for showing this. I bought the white and black one today. I did consider getting the white only. It looks pretty nice. Thanks for sharing.

A lot of questions?..........
To all that wanted a few better pictures then what is posted on ebay your welcome.
Unfortunately my work computer will not allow me to look at online auctions so ebay links are out........maybe....wait one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110973691923
I find the case to be very easy to put on and take of if necessary, fit and finish a very good, as far as lint from pocket, I cannot comment on that one because that why I got a case with a holster.....lol. I dont think it makes the phone that much thicking and its weight is still very minimal.
I have not attempted to put the phone in the holster with the screen out. I had an experience once walking by the ironing board in my bedroom and bumped a metal piece sticking out and a had a wonderful 1 1/2 inch scratch on my beautiful phone but I or someone else will check that out and post it up later.
I do think that the holster clip is the weak link of this whole package. Its is no Otterbox or Ballistic but I have broken my Otterbox holster clip getting into my truck in the past.
I can say that for the cost it is one of the nicest, cheap cases floating around on ebay. I am happy to display my incredibly expensive phablet in it.

the holster clip is my concern...as you said that you believe it is the weakest link as well...like i mentioned i went through 2 of these on my GN2 (not the same exact one, but the holster clip part looks to be exactly the same) which ended up costing me like $30..that is why im strongly considered getting the Seidio Surface combo..but that is gonna cost me $57..i think i might have to pay a higher premium to get better quality this time around
follow up
does the phone fit properly in the holster (when the screen is facing out) so that you can actually use the kickstand feature? not the kickstand that is connected to the case...im asking about the kickstand that is connected to the belt holster...
The answer is...... It does not go into the holster with the screen facing out. I know that seems kind of weird since it has a kickstand feature but it does not slide into the holster that way.

The rubber around the top and bottom is the same as it is on all sides, no extra padding in possible problem areas. The rubber is soft which should give some shock absorbtion as well as bounce if dropped on a hard surface (may I never need to know)
I will try to post a pick of it later.

MYBAT Jolt Case mini review - amazing case for only $6

I'm not that great at prose. Bullet points for all of you!
Bought from here. Also comes in white and red.
Notes:
The great big DANGER sticker and Big Scary Laser sticker is something I bought separately.
Pros:
It's 6 freaking dollars!
Does not feel cheap
Volume/power buttons retain their 'click'
Reasonable protection
High lip for drop protection
Lip does not impede touching the edge of the screen
Stand actually useful (comfortable angle)
Slippery enough to slide into my pocket, grippy enough to comfortably stay on a table
Does not attract fingerprints at all
Fit is very tight, phone absolutely won't come out on its own
Feels comfortably rugged but not ridiculously so
Would not be afraid to drop the phone whilst in the case
Cons:
Volume/power buttons have very little definition on the case, very easy to accidentally press volume down whilst holding the phone
Stylus cutout could be a tad bigger
Larger headphone connectors may not fit
Larger microUSB connectors may not fit
Can be a little fiddly to get the phone out of the case due to tight fit
Neutral:
Stand only has one angle (I like it for the simplicity, but each to their own)
Stand feels a little flimsy (I don't think it will break unless someone smacks the phone down whilst standing)
No dust covers on the jacks (I personally like this as I hate having to remove dust covers when I want to plug anything in)
Wrapup:
For $6 shipped I couldn't be happier.
Unless I find something hugely better or the otterbox commuter drops in price by $20, I'm sticking with this.

I've got the same case, modded it to use with my flip cover and it works great. With the flip cover on I can fold it back and prop the stand on it or it lays flat in front like a keyboard on a laptop. The only problem I have with it is the kickstand is a bit flimsy.

I put the flip cover on, then put the case on and marked it just 1mm-2mm from the top and bottom of the flip cover then removed the case and cut it down to the little groove along the back edge, then cut along the groove. Afterwards I sanded the back edge with 200-1800 grit sand paper and it looks factory finished now.

Monty, i found one exact replica of the Otterbox Commuter for $5 and mod it to have a thin kickstand.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2153383
I spliced in the kickstand from a $9 TPU casing. The point is it's more protected from drops & has a functional stand without the $70 cost from where I come from.

I just received my uag scout case and then I see this thread. Blast. The uag case is nice. Fit is not a hundred percent but protection feels good. What it is, is not worth 39 that I paid for it. This case looks like it would offer similar level of protection to the uag case. Anybody compared the two? Might get it to cutout the back to allow for better charging wen I finally get around to performing the induction charging mod.

The only thing to be careful with on this case is the inside edges are pretty sharp, at least on mine, and scuff up the edges of the phone. The reason I don't use it on my new note.

Sorry, but in terms of quality these are in a different category. Two months ago I said to myself after getting a handful of ebay cases - hey they all cost as much as one of the premium one. Then, I compared it to those from UAG, Case-Mate, and Otterbox - and the quality and fitment of ebay cases was pale in comparison. They will offer a similar level of protection, I will not deny that. But you will see how brittle plastic material is, how hard to push volume/power buttons, how flimsy and stretchy silicone inserts, how poorly inner/outer shells interconnect, how flimsy kickstand is, the silicone/plastic gets a blue shade from your jeans pocket, and how poor some of the port openings are. Regarding price of UAG - that's expected when a brand new product is released and there is such a high demand for it, thanks to a great reputation of their S3 cases.
Here's pics of it on the phone itself

[Review] Official Samsung case (NOT the flip case!)

So after my Nilkin case took a tumble and broke one of the edges by the volume rocker I wanted to review some other cases that offered more protection around the edges without adding bulk. The criteria was simple, stick as close to the thickness of the Nilkin as possible but add more protection.
Today I have the Samsung official case that Mobilefun have kindly sent me.
One thing is for certain, pictures make it look thicker than it actually is. The Nilkin case is barely any thinner but you get the added top and bottom protection on this Samsung case which gives the impression of a thicker case in images. In reality it feels more comfortable than the Nilkin due to the curvier shape and soft case bezel. I find it nicer to type with this case on as my fingers are no longer rubbing against the straight edge at the bottom like they would with the Nilkin and all other snap on cases like it.
Negatives:
I can spot one immediately which is that the back is glossy and as such does attract fingerprints, dust and scratches. Over time this finish will look tired like car paintwork that's seen sponges and machine car washes (I've yet to see a glossy black finish that doesn't end up this way on a gadget!) so bare this in mind. It might be possible to take a scouring pad to it like we did with the glossy Galaxy S2 bits back in the day
Regardless of the name "Hard case" it's not actually all hard, the Nilkin is harder. The back of the Samsung case is hard glossy plastic but the rest is harder flexible material and feels like it will take more of an absorbing impact.
Pics & final thoughts:
Vs Nilkin

It's a £15 case so for once it's not unreasonably priced compared to the branded 3rd party cases out there (Casemate, Otterbox etc) given that it's an official accessory. I'm due a couple of other cases so will compare the lot in a few days but so far this Samsung case has impressed me. It will definitely take more of a beating than the Nilkin has and protect my phone at the same time... Which leads me on to beatings. Had I received this case a couple of days earlier I would not currently have a chip on the lower right of the screen on my handset after a nasty fall on brick stairs.
Such is life
I also use this case now and like it. Although got it slightly cheaper from amazon - around £10 ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009KZ36ZM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 )
I was thinking of combining this case with the official flip case (to better protect the screen surface). Has anyone tried it? Does it work or the extra bulk of the flip case does not allow this protective case to be fitted?
Hmm not sure how the flip would work with this case on without cutting the soft side bits?
I tried the case mate tough first but the cutouts around the usb port and s-pen were too sharp and made the phone uncomfortable to hold.
Have the Samsung case on my wife's Note II and and liked it, have one myself now

I am not sure too - would be good to try it myself, but nobody of my friends with Note2 has a flip case.
I have seen this idea being implemented using a slightly moded UAG case (if I am not mistaken) and official flip cover. I think I saw it in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931209
Update:
Here it is - look a short discussion around posts 1002-1010: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931209&page=101

Wow.... Those photos.... So beautifully shot it made me tempted to get one myself too!

Yeah that's the problem with some cases where they have sharp/non curved bits around the bottom so when you use the phone it's a bit uncomfortable. Normally it's not noticeable until you use another case that doesn't have it and it's a nice welcome difference.
This case can be used along with the replacement backdoor flip cover (OEM Samsung with nfc). I also use the backdoor flip cover with my Otterbox commuter case without a problem and without modification. It's awesome in both applications because you get full phone protection, and in the instance I'm using the case discussed in this thread, without adding a lot of bulk to the phone.

Thank you for the info!
Could you post few photos of the combo in closed and open states please?
Just to make sure it is convenient for my use patterns before buying it...
If you want to use the official Samsung case with the flip cover, many people (myself included) just cut the softer outer plastic bit where it impedes the flip cover. Thanks to the back being a harder plastic it doesn't lose too much integrity and still holds onto the phone fine. There was a thread about it here in this section with photos and stuff, I'm sure you'll find it with a bit of searching.
The benefit of actually cutting the case rather than leaving it intact is you can still fold the cover back and type with two hands, whereas I'd you didn't the case would only open to about 90° from the screen

And why would you do that, Back to the review I brought this case off amazon uk and yes its a good case does not add to much bulk ti the phone either. No point wasting money on cheap tpu cases anymore as the official is only £10.

To see what it's like with a matte finish as matte looks more professional than glossy. And why not for the sale of posting feedback?
Nice post!
Could you post a picture of the inside of the case, specifically the part where the lanyard loop goes? Is it recessed, and is it strong?
Amazing pictures, makes me want to get it more, and it's one of the few cases with a lanyard loop :good:
Damn sorry I don't have it any more
