CWM boot loop - unable to access via heimdall/odin/adb - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using cm-10-20120726
Last night, for no apparent reason, my phone turned off and didn't want to come back on again. I didn't change anything, plug it into anything, or do anything fancy, it just turned itself off and now it's stuck in a boot loop.
I've tried connecting it to ADB but it seems to not be able to access the device. Windows detects it differently on 2 separate windows machines that I have, and I'm not sure how my Ubuntu OS detects it, but it doesn't seem to detect it at all.
It boots into download mode okay, but I can't get it into recovery.
So, my difficulty right now is I don't know to access it in any way, and I can't take it to a repair store.

Hey
Have you tried installing its drivers..?( you can from any of the links below)

Yeah, great I can detect the device in heimdall now.
Code:
$ heimdall detect
returns "Device detected" now.
I've managed to install the CWM Recovery v2.5.1.0 SpeedMod Kernel.
Would it be possible to stop the boot loop without flashing the ROM? I could do that but I think there are some phone calls I've had recently that I'd like to get the number from and I'm pretty sure flashing the ROM would remove my call history.

go to download mode and flash via odin semaphore kernel ... recovery work

[Q] After using an official update threw kies my phone wont start up HELP

when i plugged my phone into kies it offered me an update from 2.2 to 2.2.1 (PDA:JS5 / PHONE:JPY / CSC: JS4). i have rooted my phone before the update using Z4root and also installed voodoo lagfix using a one click installer which was on the market. after the update the phone went into recovery mode and on kies it said something like "disconnect and reconnect usb". i didnt do this and just clicked the reboot now option on recovery mode. and now my phone boots up but the OS does not start. the tmobile boot animation is no longer played, instead it is the (i am guessing) original galaxy s boot animation. after this animation the phone vibrates once, pauses and the vibrates 3 times. if i leave it on then it will do this continously. it used to do this while the phone worked on 2.2 and it ended up force closing whatever app i was using at that time. is it force closing the OS? i can no longer get into 3 button recovery mode even though i could before. i am going to try the ADK which i am new too and if it works and i get into recovery mode what should i do? factory reset? and if doesnt how can i get it to recovery mode?
i really want to get it working again thank you in advance to everyone.
UPDATE: i have tried the adk reboot recovery but it says device not found :S

Your woes are probably because you didn't disable lagfix.
But don't worry - JS5 does not disable the 3-button modes or anything. Maybe you are just releasing the buttons at a wrong time (too early / too late)? See if you can get to download mode (Vol Dn - Power - Home). If yes, you can flash JS5 (or any other stock firmware) via Odin.
Try download mode never make customication without haveing them working!
If 3btn doesn't work built a jig then flash a FULL rom(3files +pit) using odin +repartition
Or if you want it super easy just flash darky resurrection (one file+ good rom)
Could try useind adb to grlet download mode theres guid on hear how to get three button combo useing adb

Adb reboot download but i think it will not work if he can't connect adb....
Try hold volup+home+power and do a factory reset.
thanks everyone for helping me out however the 3tbn recovery/download mode is not working and to top it all of my internet provider cut my internet so i cant even research into this matter. this morning i turned the phone on and left for work i'll see what happened when i get home. all i really need to do is get my p.c to recognize the device so i could use adb/odin and that doesnt seem to work. i might end up having to buy/make a jig
you wouldnt beleive the luck i had. i sent my phone of for repairs to samsung while i waited for the parts to build a jig in hope that they wldnt b able to do anything and give me a new one and instead they fixed it. for free. im so happy

All gone wrong.

Something really gone wrong for me here and have a feeling I have a brick.
1. Flashed ROCKET ROM-V19-XXLA4 from external sd using CWM.
2. Flash was confirmed rebooted.
3. Got Bootloop (Rocket Logo)
4. Could boot into download mode but PC not seeing device.
5. Removed battery for over 1 min.
6. Still no difference, the device just cant be seen. Even after reinstalling the drivers. via Kies trouble shooting.
Anyone have any ideas??

I had the same problem today, but it worked when i did this:
- Volume down + Home + Power
- Do not press continue yet
- Open Odin
- Connect it to the computer
- Choose Continue on the Note
Now the computer should install two new drivers (modem and another one), and then the phone will pop up on the computer.
Odin is seeing :- 0:[COM4]
Thanks so much really thought I'd bricked it. Forgot all about Odin A Beer and a thanks to you both.
Just a note, not sure what went wrong but I had to flash a full stock ROM including the Modem, Code and Multi to get it working again.

[Q] Unable to make changes

I am unable to make permanent changes to my T679 Exhibit II and need some help. Here are the symptoms.
1. Any changes in Settings go back to previous settings after a power on/off cycle.
2. When attempting Factory Data Reset, the phone just turns off or seems like it's off (display is black).
3. Attempting to enter Stock Recovery results in the same black screen after the Samsung logo is displayed.
4. Tried flashing CWM 6.0.1.2 with ODIN. Although I get a Pass indication, I can't get into any recovery mode.
5. Tried flashing stock UVLG3 with ODIN. Although I get a Pass indication, The old Rom remains unchanged.
Otherwise, the phone seems to operate normally. I can make and receive calls, gps, bluetooth, and wifi works. Files written to an external SD card are okay. Files written to the internal SD disappear after a power on/off cycle.
Any ideas?
Hmm Odin is hit and miss, sometimes I have no problems other times it won't work at all

Tried ODIN again
Thanks for looking into the problem.
I tried UVLG3 with Odin again. Although, it says Passed, I'm not sure anything is getting written. Everything is finished writing at about 20 seconds after starting and then the phone is reset. At this time the phone's screen goes black. I'm not sure if the phone is off or what's happening. If I press the power switch, I'll get the Samsung logo and a normal boot up after about 13-14 seconds. On a regular power on sequence, I get the Samsung logo after about 5 seconds.
Keep trying cwm via Odin, I know I only had to do cwm once and it worked fine. Also make sure you have the proper drivers installed, a quick search of Google will help with that.

Odin again
I tried Odin again (many times) with a different tar file. With the new file, the time to complete all the writing takes approximately 4.5 minutes vice 20 seconds with the old file. There must be a glitch with the original tar or ops file. The file sizes are about the same, 600MB. The results are the same also... no change to the ROM. It's like the ROM is write protected. Even the clock starts off at the same time every time I power up the phone. Anyone have any ideas?
I would just do cwm the Odin stock is possible corrupt.

Do you mean flashing CWM with Odin? I've tried many different combinations but nothing works so far. The main rom doesn't change and I get a black screen when I go into recovery. Funny thing... when I'm in the black recovery screen, my computer will sense that the phone is there if I plug in the USB cable. Also, when I tried ADB, reboot or reboot recovery takes me to the black screen.
The only screens I get are download, memory dump, and the normal 2.3.6 operating system. No permanent changes can be made to the operating system and I can't get into recovery. When I write the CWM zip file to the internal SD, I can see it with my laptop and also with the Files app on the phone. However, the file disappears when I power the phone off and then back on. Like I said before, it's like everything is write protected.
When you are doing cwm via Odin it has nothing to do with your internal SD, you should save the Odin file to your computer, if you follow the instructions on the page you get cwm Odin file, you should have no problem, I just did cwm from Odin and it worked just fine. But if you miss a step you will still get a pass but in reality it failed. If it does not work for you then there is a problem on your device I have never ran into.

Sorry, I did not mean to say that I was trying Odin by copying the file to the internal SD. I was just trying to illustrate the read only characteristics of the phone. I've done Odin downloads before but the first thing that I tried to revive this phone was to copy the CWM zip over to the phone thinking that I would flash CWM and then reset/reflash the phone with CWM.
Since you can't do cwm flash. That's why I recommend you try cwm via Odin.

I did try it. I thought I mentioned that CWM via Odin only took about 4 seconds to do the write (I didn't).
I would like to mention that one thing does change... the clock/calendar does update (I thought it didn't). It doesn't keep any changes that were made to the phone (manually or automatically via network) before turning it off. I just noticed that when I turned it on today, the date was Aug 17, 2012. Yesterday it was Aug 16. So some changes are being kept.
There is a cwm flashable zip for stock recovery. Why not just use that? After the 2.3.6 update there is really no need for Odin with this phone.

Tried something different
I tried to gain root via ADB. I pushed and executed psneuter and also gingerbreak. The two programs seemed to execute (get several lines of messages for each program before stalling), though not to completion. Each one hung after executing partially. The funny thing is after a power off/on cycle, when I use adb again and navigate to the directory that I pushed psneuter and gingerbreak to (/data/local/tmp), the directory is empty. I don't quite understand why all changes made to this phone are just temporary. Any change stays only until the next power off/on cycle. Any ideas?

[Q] [OSX] total brick of P990

I've done something really stupid today. After flashing my Galaxy S several times already I thought I'd give my friends Optimus 2x running Cyanogenmod 7 an update to nightly 10.1. Obviously I tried flashing a 10.2 build first that I found somewhere, but installed the wrong gapps to go with it (and even after it continued to boot into CM7). So after phone boot I had FC's every two seconds and couldn't reboot into recovery with clockworkmod.
I can't reboot into download / fastboot mode on the Optimus 2x. power + volume-down goes into "SW update" which is totally useless, and all others boot into CM7. I've installed the ADT and tried lots of things through adb, but nothing wanted to go into recovery mode (like adb reboot recovery), so in the end I did a 'su wipe system' after remounting the file system into rw mode.
Now the phone is totally dead. I think I've really wiped everything as I can't even shell into the phone saying no shell executable is available.
Any way I can fix it? fastboot just hangs saying 'waiting for device' (was doing it all the time); heimdall doesn't recognise the phone ('ERROR: Failed to detect compatible download-mode device.', also always), doing both as root.
I just want to factory-reset the whole thing and flash an image. Any way I can do this from OSX?
Help appreciated!
This device is unbrickable, so don't worry.
Unfortunately, I can't help you with OSX...
But using the AIO-tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34809475 can let you do anything... So, of no Mac answers tick in, go windows...
Maybe, Progmaq's tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975274 is even easier as it also restores some CM10 nightly.
