If you haven't got the drivers installed on your computer then get them from Google and use Odin to flash remember to disable modems in devices and printers in cp and terminate kies it u have installed it

[Q] SGS 2.1, Can't use recovery mode or download mode, and won't connect to kies!?

Hey all I have a SGS on 2.1 update 1, and the 3 button combos used to work to take mt to downloadmode/recovery mode and now for some reason I can't.
When I try connect to Kies it says 'connecting' forever on kies and 'connected' on my sgs...
I have tried to download ROM Manager to install clockwork mod, and it says its all worked but it never goes into it, even when I try to boot to clockwork from ROM Manager.
Also I am rooted - (z4root) and I have installed SU.
Recovery jig as posted on the front pages .
Samsung Service centre if its stock rom .

Not keen to do any physical changes on the phone like taking it apart. If a software fix is available that would be great?

can you get into download mode ?
Or look at building a rom in rom kitchin and flash via clockwork recovery from internal sd card .

If you can connect the phone to the computer in usb debug you could use the adb command....or get the quickboot app it has the download and recovery option in it

From what I read your phone is still working so there is no way you need a jig. If your phone is soft-bricked then yes you will probably need a jig.

yeah the phone is working and doesn't seem to be bricked at all, i just can't change from 2.1 update one.
And sharptr it didn't work but thanks
Your posts say you cannot get into downloads mode but jig fixes that .
Nor can you get into recovery mode ??
Nor will Kies update .

Try cleaning port or adb
I was going to suggest something stupid but then I read the first post.
Instead, try cleaning the USB port with alcohol and see if that helps the connection. I am assuming you've removed and reinstalled kies and/or drivers until your blue in the face....
You don't mention if the computer see the phone at all - if it does adb approach might work to put it in download mode. If not try the port - can't hurt and even though I suspect it will only help one in a hundred it would have saved me a week of my waking life to have read that suggestion earlier on...

[Q] ***ODIN does not recognize Captivate!***

Hi guys, I just recently flashed CyanogenMod7 on my Samsung Captivate. After getting a bit tired of the rom, I have decided to revert to stock to install a different rom. The problem is, when I'm trying to go into Odin to flash back to stock 2.1, it does not recognize my phone at all and does not make a com port for my phone. I have tried reinstalling drivers, I have tried all USB ports on my computer, I'm clueless as to what I can do. I can mount the phone and move things into the phone but Odin does not recognize it even in download mode. Any help would be much appreciated!
Have you tried a different version of odin? I'm no expert by any means but maybe that might help. I got my odin to stock from ponack.net in the flashing to stock post.
Hope you get it going.

The same thing happened to me when I decided to flash back to stock from CM7. Odin would not recognize my phone at all. I downloaded a new copy of Odin, made sure that I ran it as Administrator but still, nothing. I then left my phone connected to my pc while in download mode and noticed that my computer was installing drivers??? I was not sure why, but after it installed them, I disconnected my phone, removed the battery, restarted Odin, then went into download mode and PRESTO...my phone was showing in Odin...Its worth a shot, I mean it worked for me.
Make sure have odin open first. Plug usb cord into the back of your computer. Get it into download mode THIS WAY: take out battery (and sim if going back to stock) plug in the usb to the phone, hold both volume buttons, insert the battery. If it still doesn't work, restart the computer

Try odin one click too sometimes it well recognize when the full odin will not

Might try using AIO Captivate tools from the development section. If you have one, you might try using a different cable too. Failing that, try installing a different kernel or custom ROM before trying to flash to stock again.

Did you make sure to download and install Nexus S drivers rather than captivate?

[Q] "Weird brick" ?!

Hello...
I have a problem with my SGS. I was on Darky 9.5, and decided to upgrade to JVB. I had CWM & working recovery on Darky 9.5, I disabled lagfix, and I downloaded deodexed JVB rom - in a zip file. I flashed it trough cwm, and it worked. With some issues. The rom (JVB) worked fine, but dialer app force closed a lot, and it was slow, gps badly working etc... I rooted trough odin with chainfires kernel 3.1 and then flashed a small zip file that enabled overscroll glow effect. And all of those things worked. I tried to flash to stock rom using odin and download mode but when I connect my sgs, my pc cannot recognize it. It says "USB device not recognised". So I cannot use ODIN, and also all of a sudden, i cannot enter cwm, even with 3 button combo. I tried this on 3 computers, and I have a second SGS which works fine, including download mode & odin DOES recognise it. So drivers should be fine. Anyone have a solution to this problem? I CAN start DOWNLOAD mode but 3 PC's don't recognize it. And my other SGS works on ALL 3 PC's.
Oh, I fogote to write. I directly flashed 2.3 JVB cwm zip (deodex. file) from cwm (darky 9.5) and that didnt't update bootloaders. The JVB rom booted and worked fine, but after powering on sgs displayed a weird looking boot screen, but the rom booted successfully anyway.
I would really appriciate your help.
Thanks.

CWM boot loop - unable to access via heimdall/odin/adb

I'm using cm-10-20120726
Last night, for no apparent reason, my phone turned off and didn't want to come back on again. I didn't change anything, plug it into anything, or do anything fancy, it just turned itself off and now it's stuck in a boot loop.
I've tried connecting it to ADB but it seems to not be able to access the device. Windows detects it differently on 2 separate windows machines that I have, and I'm not sure how my Ubuntu OS detects it, but it doesn't seem to detect it at all.
It boots into download mode okay, but I can't get it into recovery.
So, my difficulty right now is I don't know to access it in any way, and I can't take it to a repair store.
Hey
Have you tried installing its drivers..?( you can from any of the links below)

Yeah, great I can detect the device in heimdall now.
Code:
$ heimdall detect
returns "Device detected" now.
I've managed to install the CWM Recovery v2.5.1.0 SpeedMod Kernel.
Would it be possible to stop the boot loop without flashing the ROM? I could do that but I think there are some phone calls I've had recently that I'd like to get the number from and I'm pretty sure flashing the ROM would remove my call history.
go to download mode and flash via odin semaphore kernel ... recovery work

Bricked or not

i found my year old galaxy mini s5570 a few weeks ago..it was running the good old froyo 2.2.1...i rooted it and updated it to 2.3.6 and rooted it again...after the update my computer started giving me error "USB Device not recognised" whenever i connected my phone. I tried booting it in download mode and recovery but the computer says the same error. My device is unable to get into recovery but download mode is accessible....i have tried the usb fix which involves a gentle lifting of the toungue of the micro-usb port........i was trying again and again to reach recovery and suddenly i was able to access it (Stock recovery).i did a wipe data and a wipe cache and since then my phone is stuck at the screen where it says "Samsung" and underneath it "www.samsungmobile.com"....thats all i seei cant get past it and now again i am unable to access the recovery.....IS IT BRICKED AND WHAT IS THE SOLUTION..
SORRY FOR SUCH A HUGE POST BUT I THOUGHT DESCRIBING ALL THAT HAS HAPPENED MIGHT HELP......
i have the proper device drivers and the cable is also fine (Tried switching cables and it did not help).
Windows 8? And as long as you have download mode try reflashing stock GB and avoid windows 8 with flashing.
