Firmware upgrade problem + 4.0.3 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Earlier I was trying to upgrade the firmware via Kies and something went wrong. My Note is now stuck with a " Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". But when you try to connect to Kies via usb then nothing happens and is unable to connect.
What are my alternatives to get my phone working again?

next to following the recovery mode steps, usb connection troubleshooting, etc in Kies,
you can get phone into download mode and flash the desired rom throught pc odin See dr Ketans thread in sticky section original development
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

Can't seem to do it via Kies anymore since when I plug it via USB to KIES - its just says "connecting" the whole time until it times out. Sucks that this could happen even if i'm using the Kies software. Such a hassle.
Looking over dr ketans thread, would it matter which country ROM one uses from the list? What are the pros and cons?

Enter in download mode and flash the .tar file via pc odin

[Q] Odin didn't recognize the SGS

Hi,
I'm about to Flash to 2.3.3 firmware.. but the problem is that after i put my SGS into download mode the Odin didn't recognize my SGS (ID:COM) didn't display YELLOW.., but while i'm on normal mode every time i connect to my laptop Odin always recognize it..
Please help...
Thanks
Start Odin after connecting the phone and the laptop has already 'seen' the phone.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It's recognized my phone, but once i turn it too download mode by " Volume down+Home+Power) and connect to laptop again.. it's never recognized...
Try running Kies in the background then connect and see what Odin says .
jje
Disconnect SGS USB cable... Close Odin. And update your SGS drivers!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
-> Restart PC.
-> Open Odin, put in your files
-> Connect USB cable to PC, THEN to the SGS! (First PC, then Phone)
-> Hopefully you should see Yellow COM!
PS: While in Download Mode, and when connected to PC... Windows may download/update some more drivers. Let it happen! Do not disconnect!
There are two version (*86) and (*64) which one should i choose?
Never had this problem but can suggest few things
1. uninstall kies and reinstall SGS drivers only (Google them, they are available on net)
If doesn't work
2. do a factory reset and try with Odin
3. if not, restore the phone, if you have backup on Clockwork mode recovery.
As i said, never experience this issue, so just suggesting
x86 is for 32-bit Windows, and x64 is for 64-bit Windows!
To check what you own, Right-click on "My Computer" -> Properties -> And see what's written, 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64)
Also, try uninstalling Kies, and install only the drivers posted on that link!
While running Odin, it is recommended that Kies should not be running, even as a service!
Okay, but my SGS is not yet rooted, so is there any chance the Odin didn't recognize my phone due to unrooted device??
i've got the same problem, cant upgrade to gingerbread because of it...tried everything suggested in this thread..even restored a backup i made using clockwork recovery...spent 3 weeks googling and restoring my phone reinstalling drivers e.t.c...ive given up and im stuck on froyo 2.2.1 XXJPY.
Rooted mobile or not rooted, no difference, odin shd recognize, u may try another version of odin or use update.zip or root it to install a custom rom, guessing, u might be missing some bootloaders

[Q] Phone Dead after kies restarted PC while updating then using Odin3 to "recover"

[Q] Phone Dead after kies restarted PC while updating then using Odin3 to "recover"
So my PC suddenly restarted while installing 2.2 on my phone. When I started up again it could not use its "emergency recovery". I searched for help and found a place where they had the exact same problem fixed it via "Odin3 Flasher" (google "Stock Firmware Odin3 Flasher" to get the exact guide I followed)
My phone is from Norway so I do NOT have at&t but now that i followed those instructions, all my phone does is flash on and off "at&t world phone", and I cannot get into download mode again. When I plug in the USB the at&t logo stops flashing and it goes completly black.
How can I get into download mode or fix this?
same thing happen with me today
the same thing is happened with me today when i used the ODIN3 v1.00.... Please help me...
you will need to make or purchase a usb jig : http://www.1giftbuy.com/p-10279-i9000-i9100-micro-usb-download-mode-jig-/?currency=GBP , then you will be able to use odin to flash a stock rom
Search on the forum, you can install android SDK, set usb debugging and then do an adb reboot quickly from computer after attaching the uab cable. I had the same brick problem, and I fixed it without usb jig.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S stuck on boot screen

Hi, i'm noob in Galaxy Flashing so this is my problem:
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 blocked from italian carrier.
Few times ago i tried to enable 3-buttons download/recovery mode installing Aries_P-SBL.tar.md5 with Odin. The installation finished successfully but the download/recovery mode still didn't work.
After some reboots (where the phone worked right), now the phone stucks in the boot screen (the one with Galaxy S GT-I9000 SAMSUNG).
With the JIG i can enter download mode but my computer can't detect the phone (Windows feels my USB connection but Odin does not detect it).
If i connect the phone to the computer in normal mode (not in download mode, so with stuck screen), Kies can detect the phone but says that it can't talk with phone in this way(like if it was in USB Debug mode).
I Hope someone can help me
Restart your computer>>>Go to task manager and close all Kies applications (I usually have 2 Kies running from startup)>>>Start Odin and select all the files>>>Put your phone into download mode and connect>>>It should be detected now.
If it is still not detected, close odin, disconnect phone. Start Kies go to tools and install drivers. Once this is complete. Close Kies and start from the top of this post...restart...
Solution Is HEIMDALL.....
Here Comes your solution:
You can easily back your phone with Heimdall.
It's a flashtool which is more complicated than ODIN.
If interesting, simply PM me and we will do it.
I'm Here...
Well,first go to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
Second: Download 7-zip PC software & extract your official md5 firmware to obtain several other files.
Third:Search the web for a Heimdall How-To(if you didn't find,I'll provide You links)
Last:You'll flash the firmware via Heimdall & again your peace of mind will be back.
Try to reflash your phone normaly with another Rom, it should work

Try reinstalling the samsung usb drivers and/or try from another pc and see if it shows the same thing (meaning nothing) .
Hi,
sorry but i tried all the ways, Odin and Heimdall.
I tried Odin on Windows and Heimdall on MacOSX but always they say
"Failed to detect compatible download-mode device."
I'm sure that phone is in download mode
May i install drivers on OSX with Heimdall?
I have not original samsung USB cable, but i think this is not a problem
Rooted my GT-I9000, and now it has crashed!
First off all my Galaxy I9000 was trying to software update via Kies, and it failed. The it would not start, but i managde to root it with a stock "VOD" rom.. But after a while i wantet to root it back to "Nordic Version"... But i could not do this, because the 3 button combo dont work on my Galaxy I9000 anymore.. :/ So there for i baought a USB JTAG, that puts it into download mode. So far, So good But when it is finished rooting, it fails to mount/unmount a bunch of stuff.. I have a picture of the screen, so that you guys can se what the problem is. I have tryed to root it with the same version that worked before, but it dont work. I have also tryed with som pit files, and so on... I give up, i need help with my Samsung Galaxy S - GT-i9000. Please help me out with this..
Getting Hopeless...?
1)For you to become sure,my Galaxy S Aka I9000 was exactly the same as yours and right now there is nothing wrong with that of course after flashing by HEIMDALL.
2)Remember,if your are going to do anything,Your first and your last key,is your HOPE so be so hopeful and let's start to get over this.
3)Download I9000 USB driver from here and simply install it on WINDOWS OS.
http://hotfile.com/dl/48893334/93383a1/I9000_USB_driver.rar.html
4)Before Using Heimdall, Enter it's folder and you'll see another sub folder called driver and you'll see just ONE executable program, run it and follow these instructions:
(I'll Shortly Provide You A How-to)
5)Enter Heimdall and follow these instructions:

Hi, changing computer worked. I tried on OSX and didn't work, on Windows 7 on VMware Fusion and didn't work. After all, i tried on a laptop with Windows XP and it solved my problem. Now i get a mobile network error, with one carrier it works and with another it does not. The mobile network detected is always really low.

Is It Possible To Flash The UK ROM XEULP4 Over The German ROM XXLPY?

I own an unrooted UK Note which I have flashed the stock German XXLPY over GB using PCOdin and now that the official UK ROM XEULP4 has been released I would like to use that. I've tried to flash the UK ROM using PCOdin but the COM box fails to turn yellow and I wondered if it was perhaps not possible to go from XXLPY to XEULP4.
I would be grateful to here from anyone who has gone from the German XXLPY ROM to the UK XEULP4 ROM and how it was done.
Many Thanks
I flashed back to XEU GB then did an update in Kies. Sorted.

Do You need to be rooted to go back to XEU GB?
I allready told you in your previous thread.
If you cant flash through odin. You must be rooted. No options left
There is no problems if you flash UK ROM on German ROM.
Com Box is not showing because there is a problem with the Phone-PC connection.
---------- Post added at 02:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:14 AM ----------
You don't need Root to flash ROMs with PC Odin.

Thanks for your reply. It is very useful to know that the UK ROM can definitely be flashed over the German ROM because that is the easiest thing to do. I'll investigate further my Phone -PC connection.
You wrote in other thread that your PC detected your phone with kies.
Reinstall kies, disable everything related to kies on your PC using msconfig.
----
Btw
I never use kies.
Before you uninstall kies, back up SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe
file located in kies installation directory. It is enough to install all necessary drivers.
No need of whole kies ****.
It interferes with PC Odin.

Thanks once again for the extra information. Whilst investigating my problem I tried connecting the Note to my PC but with the Note NOT in download mode and the COM box turned yellow. But it doesn't turn yellow in download mode. I received an offer to update Kies before trying to flash the UK ROM which I did.
I've uninstalled Kies but that has made no difference, still no yellow box on PCOdin when I connect the Note in download mode. Strangely, the COM box does turn yellow if I connect when NOT in download mode. If I cannot get PCOdin working with my Note then I cannot try going to the UK ROM from the Germany ROM via GB for I won't be able to flash the GB ROM either. So I'm really stuck.
Any more ideas anyone?
When I downloaded the UK ROM from Sam Mobile it was in the form of a zip folder. I've tried extracting the MD5 file from the folder using 7-zip and trying the MD5 file without unzipping but neither help my yellow COM box problem in PCOdin. Do you need to extract the MD5 file from the zipped firmware folder using 7-zip or not? The extracted file looks the same size as the one in the zip folder.
I'm downloading the EU GB ROM to try that to see if I can flash that using PCOdin.
Maybe a stupi question. But are you sure you are in dl mode, not recovery?

I'm using volume down+home button+power button and I get the download screen with a yellow triangle warning about downloading custom ROMS.
Ok. Thats the right way. Odd problem you have.
I've re-installed my original Kies and not accepted an update like I did before but still no yellow COM box when I connect the Note in download mode. I cannot understand how the PCOdin COM box turns yellow when I connect to the PC NOT in download mode whilst it does not go yellow in download mode.
It's getting late and I'm getting tired so I'm going to sleep on it and try again tomorrow.
I have discovered two error messages when I connect my Note to the PC and it seems the Note is not recognised. I've installed the Note device drivers using Kies and the Note connects to Kies OK.
I attach the error messages which appeared when I connect my Note to the PC: Does anyone know how to fix the problem? I've just tried connecting the Note to my PC with it powered up and I don't get any error messages and the PC recognises the Note. So perhaps that is why I got the error messages.
I'm still no nearer to discover why my COM does not turn yellow in download mode though.

Odin not recognize my SG I9000 in download mode

Hi. After official upgrade with Kries, from Froyo (2.2) to Gingerbread (2.3.6), Odnin won't recognize my phone (SG I9000) in download mode. Also, now in download mode get message "Can't access to /system/csc/SWC/system", When phone boots up in normal mode, odin recognize phone properly and in odin get message "ADDED". Kies also recognize phone. Window also recognize phone properly.
I tried on three different PC, three different USB cable, reinstall drivers and nothing changed.
I want root phone and install unofficial ROM. Now, is there now any way install to root phone and install another ROM ? Tnx
