What does the "thread closed" mean if people are still adding comments to that thread? example- yesterday I noticed a closed thread I wanted to comment on, then I went into it today and there were posts from today! maybe a link to what the little icons mean next to a thread, would be helpful? -i'm not seeing a link. Or what a new person can and can't do link?

That is something that doesn't normally happen, although it can. The only people who can add onto a closed thread are Moderators - you will note that quite often, because you are in Off-Topic, other Mods (especially ConanTroutMan) like to add their own comments after one of their fellow Mods closes a thread. Don't worry about it - they live on a different plane of existence to us mere mortals
Suffice to say; if it has a padlock on the icon then it is closed.

In an effort to decrease what seems to be a growing number of complaints over useless, counter-productive posts (which in my humble opinion, are in and of themselves, also useless, counter-productive posts) I've started this thread.
Got a problem with a stupid, useless, thread-clogging post?
Want to flame someone endlessly for not reading the thread before posting? Or not reading the Original Post? Or asking a question that was clearly answered three posts before?
Cut and paste it, list it here and comment on it. Then if possible, PM the perceived wrongdoer and let them know. Or let them know as part of your next "useful" post by adding a short comment and a link to this thread. Take the fight or argument off-thread! That way, the complaints that you would be tempted to post in the affected thread, won't cause the very thing you're complaining about!
If anyone likes this idea, add the link to this thread in your signature...please don't PM me telling me you don't like this thread...
First Complaint
This is a waste of space.
All posts I make are a waste of space AND time.
The ironic thing is, although a majority of the posts on XDA qualify for this, watch this thread be the one that's the least commented in. Oh irony.
Oh NO!!!! It's Mr Bill!!!

*sights*... how do I put this?....
There is no flaming allowed ANYWHERE in this site. Not even in Off Topic regarding to anything else. By opening this thread, you are in essence encouraging people to be rude to others, allowing them to "vent" against others. Users are not allowed to be disrespectful or flame at any time in this site. If a user does, then he/she is breaking forum rules and moderators will act accordingly. The little triangle with the exclamation sign on each post is so that anyone can let us know if any of this is going on...
I am going to close this thread simply because the only thing that you wanted this thread to do is causing users to do exactly that. They are flaming you and posting comments that serve no other purpose other than... well, flaming the OP.
If you would like to revisit this case, pm me and I will be more than happy to talk it over with the other mods. But for now...
thread closed.
OK I am fairly new here, But I can now see why alot of people are leaving this forum and going to others. One main gripe i have is moderators up and moving posts all over the place. Ill be coming back to check a post and then all of a sudden its gone? no idea where it went have to dig through 20 topics to find it. lots of this going on as of late.
Not to mention some of my own posts moved for no reason, well at least not ones that make sence. Had one moved from general to off topic why? my post was a general post about tblet and phone things it wasent an off topic post.
also had a post for the acer iconia a500 moved from the acer iconis a500 forum becasue it was a question??? Um would not people looking for questions and answers about the iconia go look in that section? No ones gonna go to the q&a section to look for my acer iconia spacific topic. makes no sence that it was moved.
I have noticed a few devs have also abandoned xda becasue of the silliness here and moved to other forums.
OK so let me know where your gonna move this topic too ok I put it in off topic sooo. I guess im not off topic enough?
Everything ends up in OT eventually.
General section is more general and relates to some "useful" or "serious" information or discussion. OT is mainly meta topics or spam parties or jokes or happy-fun time.
Questions are ALWAYS in Q&A section, unless the question is not a question and is more of a rant.
Did I answer you enough?
p/s: Don't mess with the mods.

If your post/thread was moved most likely it was rightly so. Devs are not leaving XDA because of threads are being mved...devs are leaving because of many reasons, one being noobs posting in Dev when they should not be. We are very strict when it comes to where something goes...and soon to be more strict. We have a method to our madness...if you are confident that something you have posted was in the right area, I would suggest sending a PM to your forum moderator. You can find the list in my sig if you are not sure who that is.
And to add to the TRM post....if a MOD moved any thread, an automated PM is sent to the OP of such thread sooooooo, your accusation/rant/complain is futile and irrelevant
I call for closing this thread...question has been answered already and as Apu says: "Thank you, come again!!"

Agreed. Thread closed.
To the OP: If the thread was moved, it was most likely ill-placed to begin with. If you have a particular instance in which you believe your thread was moved in error, PM me the URL to the thread and I will look into it.
For some reason you blocked me from sending PM.
Weird behaviour of a mod, you don't even give new members the change to explain.
So here is what i wanted to send:
Strange, why you closed my thread?
I just saw the link the polish guy posted and found a few answers there.
But not all answers are in that thread, simply because it's not the same rom.
Ok, i'm a new member and don't know all the rules and find everything right away, but since when is it forbidden to ask simpel questions that weren't asked before?
And b.t.w. new memebrs are forced to spam questions in those threads, because we have to wait 10 posts before we can ask in de dev thread.
I understand why that is, but it doesn't solve the problem because after 10 posts people do it anyway.
Thank you for your help/time anyway.
I now reached my 10 posts, so you can close this thread or place it were it belongs (off-topic thread?)
I understand your feeling but many members newbie or not they say use search button first before asking or specially creating a new thread like the one you create there's a identical thread that tonyp's created in that section you can ask there even your post is below 10 because the q&a section is the section where you should learn first the things you want to know because its full of question and answer

You made a new account just to say that? I'm impressed.
This thread should be closed now.
If there no answers then ask a question in proper thread and it will be added to Q&A.
Your thread was closed, because I reported it as useless.
If MrXT would became moderator, he probably behaved the same. I am moderator on another forum too and some user just don't feel rules that the person must keep to make forum clean. MrXT is just a hater, don't know what his mind is pointed on.
Hulk does his job very good
Sorry, if I offenses you. I wanted to point you to ask all questions in thread that contains library which grows up i properly thread.
Cheers.

What the hell are you complaining about?
Your thread was closed with a very polite message pointing you towards the correct place for your question and your response is to throw a public tantrum....
Nobody has stopped you sending PMs and pointless threads will be closed, just like this one.
This is no way a bashing thread towards the moderators here. All I ask that if you're going to close or delete threads please give us notification of why. I know people have a habit of posting in the wrong area and the thread has to be moved. But if I open up a thread which I did about 2 days ago basically saying thank you and expressing my like for this forum and the people who make it all possible why would my thread get deleted without any reason of why it was deleted? Especially if I didn't break any rules or cause flamming or trolling.
I love the 90s good times
I've seen them post reasons for closing threads, but I can see it being very time consuming to post a reason every time. If it was closed recently, I bet they thought your thread could have been posted in our nifty new off topic lounge ([OFF TOPIC LOUNGE] The Four Galaxies) or the New Forum Request thread. We all want to thank somebody, but I don't think a new thread is necessary. Just my two cents...

Would the mods consider that thread to be official? I wouldn't think so. At least not enough to expect us to post certain things there. Not sure how thank you threads are treated considering all the bashing lately.
That being said Kenny does a great job so if it was him I'm sure he had a good reason. Not to single any mods out over others... Just my dealings with him has been great. And he is fast at getting back to you.

I saw there wasn't a topic in this section that was for general discussion. Lots of threads were getting locked, moved and deleted. I thought it would be good to have a place where people could post off topic stuff without getting reprimanded. I asked Kenny for his permission to start the thread and he said it was okay. So I started it.

At this point, I'm certain they do expect us to post certain things in there that aren't relevant to already opened, much needed, topics. That thread will help declutter our forums & keep us from opening unnecessary threads (I.e. "this forum is dead" thread).

100% support. Like I said above, it will help everyone from opening unnecessary threads and declutter our forums. It will even benefit newbs/noobs, making everything easy to access, find & understand.

Stop it guys you are embarrassing me...lol.
@E The Magnificent it is entirely possible your thread was deleted for the reasons mentioned here.....or maybe your spelling J/K.
And my PM "door" is always open so similar questions can be asked directly to me if you like.
But yes the Off-Topic lounge opened by @oscarthegrouch is the official lounge for this device and please post there anything not device specific.
Thanks Oscar for doing that.

Ok, this is getting crazy over here. Why on earth can we not have a SINGLE THREAD about Android L? It is the biggest release for Android and some people are excited. Everybody was confined to one thread prior to this, and guess what? That thread was closed. Why? Because people were apparently "spamming questions" (I didn't read through the entire thread so I don't know exactly what was going down, but the last couple pages didn't see all that bad).
Every other thread now is getting shut down. Seriously, what does it matter if people are asking too much? They are excited! Closing all of these threads are just going to make new people (those who weren't here last night or today) keep posting more topics on the matter. So what if people are being annoying. That main thread that was closed still had some genuine people in it. Who cares if there are a few people throughout the thread asking too much? Let them be! At least it is in one thread and not making a mess of this and the Q&A forum, likes its been since the main thread was closed.
Let this topic stay please, and let anybody speculate, ask questions, build hype or whatever towards Dev preview!
May I just remind everybody who would say something along the lines of "Oh XDA is a developer forum not blah blah blah", which is what I have seen numerous times in these topics that have been closed:
Quoted Directly above the threads here in General!
"Since this is not a development section, you can post on general topics that all users will encounter with the Nexus 5. Any registered XDA user can post in this forum."
I believe all users will encounter Android L, so why can't there be speculation, posts about things that were discovered, new pictures ect.? Look I know it gets annoying, but that's when it is all over the forum. Can we just keep this one topic open and confine everybody to it? It will make those who want to talk about it happy for they have a place and it will make those annoyed happy for it is only one thread.
Noble cause, but it won't work. It will derail in a matter of seconds and none of us mods feel like taking on the burden of keeping it in check simply for speculation purposes. Wait for the test version to drop, until then nothing is allowed.
Thread closed.
