hello, i now have my phone rooted thanks to the all in one tool kit...everything seemed to go fine. the main reason for me rooting my phone is to try to remove bloatware and to change wifi scan interval etc...i used to know how to do all this stuff when i had the droids a year or so ago, but have forgotten how to do this. can anyone help or point me in the right direction of a thread/s that could help me with all of this..thanks
It just so happens that this website has a search function...

For WiFi, you will need a root explorer app (I use es file explorer cause its free)
Navigate to /system and open up the build.prop as text...
Look for WiFi intereval scan and edit to your liking
For deleting bloat I suggest using titanium backup, create a full system back up (that way in case you uninstall he wron app you won't have to do a total flash...) Then uninstall the bloat through titanium backup or a root explorer...system apps are located in /system/apps/

I'm on the Motorola Droid using the BuglessBeast ROM and I've noticed an error that occurs where my text messenger will FC and when I try to reopen it, it won't open and force closes instantly. I have to restart my phone every time this happens and I don't know what's going on. I want to uninstall and reinstall it but I couldn't find it in the market. it's the stock text messenger that comes with the US phone. Anyone have information for me?
I could really use some assistance with this issue, anyone have any ideas? please!
For testing I would try a different txt app to, handcent is very good and u may like it more than the stock one. If you don't want to use a different app then I would flash the Rom or do a nandroid restore if u have a recent back up. Good luck.

I just re-installed the rom, I'm testing it now to see if it worked.
If still having problems you can try to fix the permissions. Should be in bb tool box. The other thing is I had this problem with chevyno1 v4.6 and gmail app. I extracted the app rom the rom zip and deleted it in the system/app folder with root explorer. Then rebooted and reinstalled with app extracted to sdcard by running the apk installer. It work after that. No more FCs.

Actually if I remember in the bb tool box you can enable godmode. That will allow you to edit the system/app folder without root explorer. You can use any file explorer if you don't have root explorer or don't want to pay for it.

apparently in BB tools, there is a way to delete mms and re-install it, it allowed me to start my messaging without having to restart my phone (the only way I could get messaging to work after fc) appreciate the help there guys, seems like it may work this time, crossed fingers
for some reason after flashing a custom theme my browser .apk went missing. i can find it it the file explorer but cant install it or do anything with it. so i was hopi9ng someone can post there browser .apk from cm 6.1 for me so i can install it again. i cant stand using dolphin and opera browser.
...or you could pull it from the CM 6.1 zip that you flashed?

once I accidentally replaced browser.apk in /system/app by another apk, later I just deleted browser.apk, and from SD card I re-installed it, and browser came back.
i actually tried that and it says application could not be installed. and the browser has appeared on my app drawer now but when i open it, it force closes. what can i do?
What are you using as you file explorer? I recommend Root Explorer, and don't forget to set the permissions...

ive used root explorer and es file explorer and still no luck. and yes ive set the permissions. it just says application not installed after i hit install.
ok... I had same problem when installing "Android Terminal Emulator" actually~and still don't know how to fix it
so what can i do, this is getting annoying
I think you may have to resort to restoring your backup...

Do you think if I re flash the theme it will possibly fix this issue? Because its the new inexus theme that was just released. Also reflashing the backup will really be a hassle.
Never mindj just tried to reflash the theme and it didn't work so I still don't know what to do
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
You can try the theme, it certainly won't hurt, but I think you'll end up having to do the ROM eventually...
Once you're up and running again, make a backup before trying the theme again.

i did a nandroid backup before flashing the theme. if i restore that backup will i get everything back. like apps and data
is there a way to remove all apps with out flashing to a clean rom?
Use root explorer and delete your /data/app folder. Then, go into /system/app and delete any apps (.apk files) that you don't want, but be careful in /system/app because alot of those .apk's in there are necessary for Android to work at all. Delete only what you really need to remove from there.
Why do you want to remove all your apps anrways?

Sadly I also newbie here but I do understand the feeling to get rid of unneccesary apps. Got myself a SE ARC recently and so had converted my old HTC HD2 to an Android rom. I love my new SE Arc but hated that stupid foursquare apps that drain tons of resources and battery as well as my data plan. Tried to uninstall it but to no avail. It can be irritating as well as frustrating. And if you install all the nice juicy apps that you love from the market, together with the existing apps, there hardly much resouces left. And the battery drained even faster. sad case really....

Delete your Data.img that's all.
Anyone know the command for adb to remove the F-Secure from a stock rom (rooted)
Also is the a way to copy text and paste in the command prompt?
adb shell pm disable package-name
As for copy & paste, use the mouse

Does that leave f-secure on the phone but disabled?
And also does anyone know the full file name of it as when I looked it was somthing like F-Secure_android_device and the rest is off the screen so can't see the full path name
Yes it does, but I don't know the name as I'm on CM7
Why don't you just freeze it using titanium backup, that is what I have done. ;-)

you can uninstall it with titanium as well, make sure chuck norris mode is on.
I simply removed the apk file from system/apps.
Ok you will need to have root permissions and some kind of file browser like root explorer.

It's not that simple to remove a system apps as they are installed as Read Only files, tried with titanium and it still did not uninstall, but i did manage to freeze it
There is a way to make it so it doesn't run... Do a hard reset (non root) and never open the app. That's what I have done and never get the stupid sounds from it or anything else.

I'm having trouble making any application a system app. I have root etc. But every time I try, it fails with what I understand to be a read/write failure. I've tried titanium backup, systemapp mover, even ES root explorer and copying it manually. This is getting really frustrating and was never an issue on my old phone. Can someone tell me if it is possible, and how you did it on a HTC one.
Many thanks..

You probably need a custom kernel with R/W capability
