Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I thought it relevant so I'm posting it here. I've always used just my GMail account with the native app and it's worked fine so I never really bothered with my Hotmail account since it's only POP mail and I feel that having it poll my Inbox every 15mins drains the battery heavily. But I read this morning that they've just started rolling out the new Windows Live Hotmail Wave 4 today, which includes Exchange ActiveSync support for Push email and Account syncing for Calendar and Contacts.
As it's being rolled out in clusters, my account hasn't been upgraded yet. But I decided to try to set up my account to Push anyways and it seems like it's working fine.
If you want to do the same in the Stock Email App, Add a New Account. Then input your Email Address and Password then hit the Manual Setup button and Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and use these settings:
Domain\Username: \username@hotmail.com
Password: password
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
Accept all SSL Certificates: No
hit Next, then make sure the Email Check Frequency is set to Automatic (Push) and then just set your other sync options. (I've only synced mail since my contacts and calendar are synced with GMail).
I'm sure some things will change when my account actually gets the upgrade, but for now, it's basically all I need.
Full Disclosure: I'm on 2.2 and using the stock Email App for this. I don't know how this will impact 2.1 or if you're using K9 or Touchdown, etc. so feel free to post you results.
Just tried your settings with the 2.1 email app and it's no go.
Just tested...
...and it works! Running 2.2 (FRF50).
Even though I rarely use it and that it's mostly used for pretty useless mail it's still nice that it works, finally.

Using stock 2.1 update 1, it works except there's no calendar option(should only available in 2.2), but the server is not very stable, need a few more retry to connect
Must be why it failed then.
2.2 you can add with out having to change any settings.
Do you know the setting to use in any other apps? The stock mail app doesnt allow showing html pictures, so i'd prefer to use k-9 or touchdown...
THANKS!!

Worked for me on 2.1 email app. Now, how do I get a widget to show me the unread count?
Finally MS do something useful to their antiquated service!
Tried it, but doesn't work (yet)
Do you get an e-mail when your account is upgraded?
Guess that is cool if it works, but you can only have 1 Exchange Activesync account on any device...that includes iPhone, WinMo etc...
Has this stopped working for anyone? I'm just getting 'unable to connect to server' now.
Same here, getting the "Unable to open connection to server."-message now.
The wierd thing is that yesterday I got the little yellow bar up top in Hotmail telling me to restart the browser to try the new version (which is what actually got me to try this) but nothing really changed, rollback?

Technically true, but two Push accounts can be accomplished on both Android & WinMo(windows live + exchange)
For us with X10's who are stuck with version 1.6 of Android,
What are the settings to get this working in K9? Has anyone successfully got it working with that mail prog?
Thanks!
Still not working here. Go Microsoft
Small update:
My Hotmail account was upgraded to Wave 4 this morning... Hotmail via Exchange? Still no go. It worked for about an hour back on 17th June, and nothing since.
Well it's all working again now
so its real push service?
if yes i need try this
i wa susing SEVEN but lack of html =(
Yes, it's proper push.
Month old note 3.
Disabled magazine and now get email message "unfortunately, email has stopped" I see from threads elsewhere that this is the issue.
I DO NOT WANT magazine. Is there someway to eliminate all the junk on this phone without killing the apps that work. I thought my Atrix was bad but it isn't nearly as crammed as this phone. I have 26 apps turned off, and some more that wont give me the option. I use this device for work, not play, and only want the apps I need.
Samsung please fix!!! Give us an option to unload all the crap with the next update. You are killing a really nice phone.
Anyone have a work around??????

What email service are you trying to use? If it's hotmail or yahoo, use the Outlook, or yahoomail app instead of stock email app. Gmail works fine with magazine crap removed.

Thanks I switched to the gmail and yahoo apps and for those accounts. Need to find a suitable outlook replacement. The corporate sync that came with phone still crashes and burns.
Thanks and Peace!
I have that also... I froze Magazine with TiBU. When I get the email crash, it will often open the 2nd or 3rd time.
I am using gmail it`s work fine for me after disabling magazine

Mine also opens on the 2nd or 3rd try but it is too much of pain. I haven't had time to try another outlook app yet (don't know which is a good one).I hope they fix it soon, my wife needs a new phone for work too, and if this isn't resolved we wont get a Samsung.

No haven't tried anything for outlook yet. The only mail account I have to move is the one on a corporate exchange server. Need to make sure what ever I substitute is secure (as well as can be expected that is). Nothing cloud based.

Try this: you can PW protect the app and or leave out the PW.

So, my phone has to be encrypted to get corporate mail. Even though I have the silent boot up option checked it still makes a sound. I assume this is because when it first turns on it's not actually accessing my settings (It does the animation, asks for my pin and then "boots up" again) but I was wondering if anyone had any solutions.
Educated guess: the phone settings are stored in the /data partition which is the partition that's encrypted, so the settings can't be read at boot time. Disabling the boot sound would require root so it can be removed or replaced by silence I guess.

You might try Nine - Exchange ActiveSync email client. It allows the device administrator security policy to be applied to the application rather than the entire device, so full device encryption isn't required in order to use corporate exchange email.

Yes, -- Email, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Notes can all be synced. Stock calendar works, although I use Google Calendar app instead.

Have you ever used Touchdown? Any thoughts on Touchdown vs Nine?
Sent from my Nexus 5
Touchdown works fine, but it hasn't been updated in a while and its user interface looks like it's from the 90s. I switched to Nine because it has a much nicer, modern interface and with the latest updates it also has some nice features Touchdown doesn't have. I'm using it in combination with Tasks & Notes because it's still lacking in that department although they're improving it constantly, both apps work very well together because they have a similar modern look and feel. Nine support is also very good, I once reported a small bug and it was fixed within 24 hours. I can really recommend it, we're using Zarafa with Z-Push and it works as good with it as it does with Exchange.
Any idea if Nine encrypts the application data when applying the security policy to the application level? Seems like a huge security liability if that's not the case.
I don't know, I'm using full system encryption (and Android L will do that by default).

Yes, I believe that it does because it requires it's own application specific PIN which is probably used for the encryption key.
I emailed the support desk at Nine, and they responded (within 15 minutes at midnight!) that the cached and application data is not encrypted, but is in the plans. I bought the application anyways since the interface is so nice, but I look forward to when they get that implemented.

That's good to know, I just assumed the PIN was used for encryption but it looks like they require it only to satisfy the pin code requirement of the security policy.
I definitely like the interface and the active development. Since I started using Nine several months ago they've added Notes, Tasks, GAL photos, mark read on delete, etc., etc.
Is anyone else having issues adding an exchange email account using the Gmail app? I flashed my phone to the stock 5.0.1 (LRX22C) version. After returning to complete stock I rooted and flashed TWRP but the issue was present before I made those changes.
Nope. Mine's running stock 5.0.1 without issue. 2 exchange accounts and 1 gmail account attached.

Thanks. Were the accounts already setup prior to updating which didn't require you to add them back after the update?

I'm not sure what the issue is but i'm tempted to downgrade just to start troubleshooting. I know we haven't made any changes to our exchange server so I'm confused as to what's causing the issue all of a sudden. Thanks for your help though. :good:
I have two exchange accounts (going to different domains) configured in gmail. I've deleted and recreated the accounts several times over the past 2 weeks. Both are configured to "push."
The only problem I've encountered is that, on occasion, the notification sound for the second exchange account is wrong. (It's configured as one tone, but for some reason that I haven't discovered yet, it might play a different tone - but only for that second account, only about half the time, and it always plays the same wrong tone.)
(Of course, there are other issues, but they usability issues and not really bugs.)

Thanks for your input. I just tried wiping data for exchange services but it still failed. I'll have to take a look at our exchange server to see if something may be blocking it all of a sudden.
I was able to add an Exchange account on the gmail app after flashing the 5.0.1 factory image. What is the issue you are facing?

The error is related to permissions connecting to the server. I think this issue i'm having is helping to recognize a potential issue with our exchange server that may have just occurred that we were not aware of. We're currently in the process of testing other devices to see if we receive the same error message. I didn't think it was our server because nothing had changed, to our knowledge anyways. Seems the timing was just ironic.. Update to 5.0.1 and exchange server issues on the same day. Have to love technology lol.

Hi,
don't know if this helps, but i had this issue and turned out that even though i was using gmail and exchange services was enabled. Because i had disabled the old email app as i didn't think it was required anymore, i could no longer setup my exchange account.
My problem with my exchange account was with encryption. Before I upgraded to .1 it was fine. I'm aware that lolli is encrypted by default but when I upgrade to .1 and try to add the accounts it wants me to encrypt so the phone reboots like it's going to encrypt but then does nothing because it's already encrypted but for some reason exchange doesn't seem to teahouse this. This is using the gmail app. I reverted back to .0 and all is fine. So not sure what's going on but frustrating for sure.

The issue was actually on my behalf. Being a flashaholic, I had maxed out the number of devices that could be connected to my exchange account. All is fine on my end now and no issues.. Well besides slow download speeds within the app store. Not sure what's causing it but running a speed test using Ookla, the speeds are accurate but upon downloading apps the speeds slow down drastically.

Is your phone using the original google firmware, or something you downloaded and installed yourself?
The stock firmware has the app needed for gmail and exchange, while AOSP based firmware does not.

On trying to configure the built-in email client, the gmail setup errors with "unable to establish connection with server".
I have made contact with Huawei on the matter, and the response was that I had to install Gmail official app. That made me wonder what Huawei is doing with their email app. They have issued the app with a separate setup for gmail account connection, but it does not seem to work. And they recommend using a different app.
Do they not care to maintain their own app? And if so, this being their general attitude to problem solving is disappointing. And leaves an impression of a half-hearted effort in development.
Anybody having found a way to work around the issue?
I find using anything other than the Gmail app to manage my gmail a pain in the ass - not sure why you would want to use Huawei's app for Gmail. The Gmail app is way faster and better to navigate. In saying that, I do have 3 gmail addresses (2 google apps and the other Gmail) so I don't ever need a 3rd party email client.

I agree to using Gmail app, and its benefits. It just struck me that they have this issue and don't address it at all. They could at least have removed the option, as long as it is not working.

Hi guys, I just started using Huawei P10 a few days for work. I setup the email using huawei native client and I like it. But since last night, I notice I didn't received any email. I tried to send email to myself but the email didn't go through. I'm curious and check my email using my laptop. Then I saw few email came in.
Then I'm wondering what's happening here? I press sync few time but came out "Couldn't open connection to server".
I tried removing the email and perform setup again... didn't work either.
Has anyone got the solution why this happens?
I'm not saying the gmail apps is not good, but I prefer in that way. Almost like using outlook.
I have a few gmail/msn address, and they all worked well with native Huawei mail client. no problem.
I am using a BlackBerry z30 now, and I loved the blackberry Hub, is that something similar in android? and free is better, or one time purchase is ok,
