Is anyone else having issues adding an exchange email account using the Gmail app? I flashed my phone to the stock 5.0.1 (LRX22C) version. After returning to complete stock I rooted and flashed TWRP but the issue was present before I made those changes.
Nope. Mine's running stock 5.0.1 without issue. 2 exchange accounts and 1 gmail account attached.

Thanks. Were the accounts already setup prior to updating which didn't require you to add them back after the update?

I'm not sure what the issue is but i'm tempted to downgrade just to start troubleshooting. I know we haven't made any changes to our exchange server so I'm confused as to what's causing the issue all of a sudden. Thanks for your help though. :good:
I have two exchange accounts (going to different domains) configured in gmail. I've deleted and recreated the accounts several times over the past 2 weeks. Both are configured to "push."
The only problem I've encountered is that, on occasion, the notification sound for the second exchange account is wrong. (It's configured as one tone, but for some reason that I haven't discovered yet, it might play a different tone - but only for that second account, only about half the time, and it always plays the same wrong tone.)
(Of course, there are other issues, but they usability issues and not really bugs.)

Thanks for your input. I just tried wiping data for exchange services but it still failed. I'll have to take a look at our exchange server to see if something may be blocking it all of a sudden.
I was able to add an Exchange account on the gmail app after flashing the 5.0.1 factory image. What is the issue you are facing?

The error is related to permissions connecting to the server. I think this issue i'm having is helping to recognize a potential issue with our exchange server that may have just occurred that we were not aware of. We're currently in the process of testing other devices to see if we receive the same error message. I didn't think it was our server because nothing had changed, to our knowledge anyways. Seems the timing was just ironic.. Update to 5.0.1 and exchange server issues on the same day. Have to love technology lol.

Hi,
don't know if this helps, but i had this issue and turned out that even though i was using gmail and exchange services was enabled. Because i had disabled the old email app as i didn't think it was required anymore, i could no longer setup my exchange account.
My problem with my exchange account was with encryption. Before I upgraded to .1 it was fine. I'm aware that lolli is encrypted by default but when I upgrade to .1 and try to add the accounts it wants me to encrypt so the phone reboots like it's going to encrypt but then does nothing because it's already encrypted but for some reason exchange doesn't seem to teahouse this. This is using the gmail app. I reverted back to .0 and all is fine. So not sure what's going on but frustrating for sure.

The issue was actually on my behalf. Being a flashaholic, I had maxed out the number of devices that could be connected to my exchange account. All is fine on my end now and no issues.. Well besides slow download speeds within the app store. Not sure what's causing it but running a speed test using Ookla, the speeds are accurate but upon downloading apps the speeds slow down drastically.

Is your phone using the original google firmware, or something you downloaded and installed yourself?
The stock firmware has the app needed for gmail and exchange, while AOSP based firmware does not.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

Download the apk file from here, force close gmail and relaunch. U will c "Exchange" option in new account now. Cheers!!

I have two ActiveSync exchange accounts I need to set up...one sets up fine (no domain) but the other continues to error out. They are the same settings I used on my Droid Charge for the two weeks I had it, the same settings I used on my G2 for the year I had it, and even works in Touchdown on the D3, but not on the standard software on the phone...
Anybody else successfully setup an exchange account with domain?

I set mine up with domain, as I did a thousand times on Tbolt. Piece of cake. Immediately go into manual of course and go from there. I have not set up two accounts however.
Are you using a self signed SSL certificate? I'm waiting back for official word from Motorola, but I think the Droid 3 doesn't support it, which makes no sense since every other droid has (and Android in general).
I fear for what Blur is going to do to this phone.
lol, the blur on this phone is better than any android skin or aosp... by far.... and i'm coming from a DX and hate blur.
I've had a droid since day one, I can't wait to get asop or cyanogen running on this. I love the hardware and speed of the phone, but after running cyanogen the last 1+ years, its hard to live with the stock moto blur
I agree, cant wait to get CM on this. The bloatware sucks, and although the phone is fast I know it would be a lot faster on CM....
for now though, I'm actually not annoyed with blur (yet)

I'm not sure, I just know that SSL is needed for the account settings to work, and that my account works fine in Touchdown, but when I set it up in the stock "email" app, it errors out. And yes, I'm connecting manually and inputting the correct server address...

Im getting the same issue, trying to load up my regular email account.
I manually put all the right values in, as I have in the desktop email program, thunderbird, to no avail.
Anyone got a clue what is wrong?
I was able to sync my work exchange account no problem, went pretty easy.
What are you guys trying to connect to?
Exchange Server ? Do you know what version?

Just my regular ISP's email account.
UPDATE: Went to my ISP's site for instructions. Seems on the android, Mediacom wants secure authentication to retrieve emails.
Thunderbird doesn't require that to log in, for some reason.
Touchdown, which works with this account on the D3 btw, says this:
Connection Mode: ActiveSync ONLY
"Uses SSL" and "Fetch and trust certificate (not recommended)" are both checked.
When I go to Refresh ActiveSync Settings in Touchdown it says:
Versions:Microsoft-IIS/7.0,1.0,2.0,2.1,2.5,12.0,12.1
Policies:SET
Again, this email account has been properly setup on:
Droid Charge running 2.2
T-Mobile G2 running CM7 and CM6
T-Mobile MyTouch Slide running CM7
Yet, when I put in the settings into EMAIL on the Droid 3 it comes back with "Error: Count not connect to server."
Ive noticed one thing with exchange emails the last couple days and wanted to see if others were having it.
Has anyone had emails cut off, like its only loading some of the message. I get daily email updates on some xda threads, and it seems if they are very long it cuts it off and you can't read the whole message. Didn't have this problem on my old droid so must be something in motorolas new setup.

Motorola's software isn't defective and works as intended. The corporate sync doesn't trust self signed certificates. But there are ways to work around this and later set the account to not verify it's certificates. First you need to either setup the account while on wifi on the same network or setup activesync to answer http requests. Meaning allow insecure connections. Once you do this you can setup the account insecurely, then goto settings -> accounts -> the email account in question and deselect the verify certificates option. Yes I agree that motorola is a pain for doing this, but the device is actually more secure disallowing self signed certificates.
I have to use K-9 Mail for my corporate, since Motorola doesn't support self-signed certificates.

I cannot setup the account while on the same wifi network, as there is no wifi allowed on that network. How do I "setup activesync to answer http requests?" Thanks for the above info and your help in the future with this.
If its any conciliation I cannot get my work mail to sync regardless of allowing or disallowing the self signed certificate. I will have to try it over WiFi to see if that helps, and I wasn't trying to use exchange either.
I do however consider the mail client defective as I did not have this issue on previous Moto Android 2.2 devices.
I could use a little help. After updating to 4.3 I can no longer send emails on my exchange account. Everything else syncs. I get emails, calendar, contacts, etc. I even went to Sprint and they sent me a replacement phone. So, I tested it out. I set everything up pre-update. Everything worked. I took the update and got the exact same result. So, it's either the update or a setting on the exchange server side that only interferes with the 4.3 update. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
4.3 update right? Just to be sure since you mention 2.3 twice which got me confused a bit.
Just check exchange send and receive working fine for me on 4.3

I've always found that the nag (from inside the email client) about activating security settings for Exchange is unreliable, and doesn't always cause the appropriate 'system level' Android dialog to pop up after you click OK to proceed from the nag inside the email client.
I just played with settings in my Exchange account on my Nexus 7, and got the security settings nag from inside the email client a few times, but it only (finally) displayed the appropriate 'system level' activation prompt after a few tries, deleting account, adding account, etc...
When the security settings activation does work, you should see a notification in the system notification area, and confirming that (system level nag) seems to do the trick.
I hope that makes sense.
I'm having an issue with email sync. In the email app, one of my email accounts will sync for a few days then just stop syncing. I don't notice it until it dawns on me that I haven't gotten new email in a while. It won't let me manually sync either. At the top, the last sync date will remain static showing a few days ago. I've deleted the account and then set it up again twice and that works for a few days, then it fails again. This is an old verizon.net account that I've never had issues with on any other device. Any thoughts?

With which email provider are you having trouble? Is it Verizon as well? (hoping that we can at least narrow down the problem...)
Thanks!
Also - Is everyone still using the stock email app, or are you having issues with another app too? I'm stock and am getting ready to try something different.

I run 4 separate email accounts (POP, IMAP, and Exchange, but not Verizon) and don't have any problems. The only thing I can think of that hasn't already been suggested is to clear the cache and/or data for the email app in the application manager. If this is an Exchange account clear the data/cache for the Exchange services app also.
I had an issue with the stock e-mail app not syncing properly with gmail. New e-mails would come in, but old ones that were read would not be marked as read. As such it had over 50 unread e-mails even though the gmail app or gmail website had 2 or 3.
I switched to K-9 Mail which works much better.

I think I'm going to have to end up running another email app as well.
That leads me to another quandary. K-9 won't do hotmail. Mailbox and Cloud Magic won't do anything but gmail and iCloud. I need to find something that can handle a hotmail (IMAP I think) account, a verizon POP3 account, and a Gmail account. Any thoughts?

Where I work, we have 5 Galaxy S5's and we have all experienced this issue. One of my users has it happen every Tuesday. This is only with the stock email app. Other apps seem fine, but that's ridiculous....it shouldn't be doing this.
Starting Friday 5/9/2014 I can no longer access my Microsoft Exchange account thru the stock email app. It worked previously up until this day on Malladus 2.0.2. I verified that all of the inputs are correct (login, password, server, etc...). Has anyone else experienced any issues with their MS Exchange account? I can login thru my web browser, but I'd like to get the email app working again. Any help would be appreciated!

Did you make any changes on thursday or friday? If not, you might talk to your exchange admin at work. Many companies (mine included) block everything and only "whitelist" certain hardware/OS combinations (I usually have to wait about a day before they whitelist my device/OS after I switch). Maybe they made a change on their end, but at a minimum they might be able to troubleshoot server-side.

Thanks for the suggestions... Yes, I had the admin at work look at it as well. He confirmed that there are no blocks on the account. I'm able to login via Outlook software on a PC, and via web browser, but not the email app on my LG G2. He was puzzled. He mentioned that it sounds like a certificate not authenticating or submitting wrong info to the server. Since it appears to be connecting to the server, but reporting wrong login info. Although we both confirmed the login and password are correct. I even had him reset my password and try it again. I did not make any changes to the account Thursday or Friday.

Yes, we tried that as well.
Not sure what else it could be. Did you install any new apps last week (esp. anything like an ad-blocker, or anything else that might have changed your hosts file)? Sometimes these kinds of apps can interfere with legit connections (I used to use an ad blocker but it caused problems with my RSS reader).
Guys, I really need help and at my wits end. I left the android platform for a bit to IPhone X....Needless to say I want to use my Note 8 again. For the life of me, I cannot get gmail to sync anymore. I tried removing my google account, I tried a factory reset, I tried adding my google account to another android device...everything syncs like contacts, calendar etc....but NOT GMAIL.
I am at a total loss here as it still works fine on my IOS device and doesn't matter if I use WIFI or cell data. Any experts here with any clue...I'm dying here.
I would also like to add that I do not think its my device as this issue exists on 2 android devices I tried and I can add a different gmail account to either device with zero issues. Seems like something is specifically blocking my gmail (maybe a security or config setting somewhere) from allowing it to sync on the gmail app.
I am starting to think its not the gmail app itself but rather some setting (or something corrupt) in how sync syncs gmail. The issue must be with sync not my devices and not the gmail app because on the same devices, other gmail accounts work fine and other items sync fine (except gmail), factory resets, removal and re-adding accounts, etc do not work

You would do best to call Google and tell them your issue. I have never had gmail not sync when it is toggled to do so.

Are you SURE you've gone through ALL the settings in the GMail app? Theres a couple, if not checked, will screw up the sync. Like make sure all your inboxes are set to sync AND notify. Make sure you have it set to sync the last 30 days of mail (or however long you like).
Also go to accounts in settings and make sure all the sync settings are toggled on. Unless Google is having server issues, it's most likely something simple you've missed which is easy to do.
See if it works with Bluetooth turned off. My Gmail app seems to sync immediately (like it's meant to) and also the Google Play app updates complete and install without any delays.
I had this issue some time ago, with my note 8, not as bad as your case, there were some periods when no sync at all, I could verify that the issue was not gmail itself, as I have 3 devices with the same gmail account, the other two always received the emails normally, long story short, I solved the problem using macrodroid to trigger gmail sync every 10 minutes, I know that this is not a real solution, but I have used it for almost a year, as I use macrodroid for a lot of things, I really forgot àbout it untill now when reading your post

How is it obviously still a problem for some people? No one has replied in this thread for 15 months, until you resurrected it just to say you don't have that issue an tell the OP to turn off his Bluetooth.
Who is the OP? He's the Original Poster who started the thread. Who knows if he found a solution, but he obviously hasn't been here in 15 months, so my guess is he either solved it or gave up on it.

Because I am one of those "some people". Obviously. And I do have this problem. Obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be searching for a fix or offering my suggested one.
If resurrecting an old thread bothers you so much why bother replying.

It doesn't bother me at all. I prefer people to search for issues before creating new threads. I didn't realize you were having issues as well, since you never said you were having issues. You actually said you Gmail syncs immediately like it's supposed to, which lead me to believe that you were NOT having an issue. Generally people don't say their phone is behaving as it's meant to, if they're having problems with it.
I thought you were just offering a solution to a very old thread for some reason. I was just letting you know it was an old thread, and the OP, to whom you were offering a solution, had moved on.
Then when you said others were obviously still having issues, I questioned that, as it was not obvious to me. Especially since your post was about how your Gmail syncs immediately and Google Play updates without delay, and your phone is functioning as it's meant to (in your words). Maybe I should've understood you wanted it to function MORE like it's meant to?
Then you asked who the OP was, so I explained that.
And you wanted to know what his solution was, so I explained I didn't know, since he had moved on.
So it didn't bother me. I was merely conversing with whom I believed to be another civilized adult. Sorry I offended you, though.
