Massive GMAIL Issue - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Guys, I really need help and at my wits end. I left the android platform for a bit to IPhone X....Needless to say I want to use my Note 8 again. For the life of me, I cannot get gmail to sync anymore. I tried removing my google account, I tried a factory reset, I tried adding my google account to another android device...everything syncs like contacts, calendar etc....but NOT GMAIL.
I am at a total loss here as it still works fine on my IOS device and doesn't matter if I use WIFI or cell data. Any experts here with any clue...I'm dying here.
I would also like to add that I do not think its my device as this issue exists on 2 android devices I tried and I can add a different gmail account to either device with zero issues. Seems like something is specifically blocking my gmail (maybe a security or config setting somewhere) from allowing it to sync on the gmail app.
I am starting to think its not the gmail app itself but rather some setting (or something corrupt) in how sync syncs gmail. The issue must be with sync not my devices and not the gmail app because on the same devices, other gmail accounts work fine and other items sync fine (except gmail), factory resets, removal and re-adding accounts, etc do not work

You would do best to call Google and tell them your issue. I have never had gmail not sync when it is toggled to do so.

@mike3000000,
Have you tried all the recommendations on this page > https://support.google.com/mail/answer/4780745?hl=en
If so, and problems persist, go to the Google Gmail forum and post your issue there > https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/gmail/QGmx0I_lDa8/jZOAbHf5CQAJ

Are you SURE you've gone through ALL the settings in the GMail app? Theres a couple, if not checked, will screw up the sync. Like make sure all your inboxes are set to sync AND notify. Make sure you have it set to sync the last 30 days of mail (or however long you like).
Also go to accounts in settings and make sure all the sync settings are toggled on. Unless Google is having server issues, it's most likely something simple you've missed which is easy to do.

See if it works with Bluetooth turned off. My Gmail app seems to sync immediately (like it's meant to) and also the Google Play app updates complete and install without any delays.

I had this issue some time ago, with my note 8, not as bad as your case, there were some periods when no sync at all, I could verify that the issue was not gmail itself, as I have 3 devices with the same gmail account, the other two always received the emails normally, long story short, I solved the problem using macrodroid to trigger gmail sync every 10 minutes, I know that this is not a real solution, but I have used it for almost a year, as I use macrodroid for a lot of things, I really forgot àbout it untill now when reading your post

How is it obviously still a problem for some people? No one has replied in this thread for 15 months, until you resurrected it just to say you don't have that issue an tell the OP to turn off his Bluetooth.
Who is the OP? He's the Original Poster who started the thread. Who knows if he found a solution, but he obviously hasn't been here in 15 months, so my guess is he either solved it or gave up on it.

Because I am one of those "some people". Obviously. And I do have this problem. Obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be searching for a fix or offering my suggested one.
If resurrecting an old thread bothers you so much why bother replying.

It doesn't bother me at all. I prefer people to search for issues before creating new threads. I didn't realize you were having issues as well, since you never said you were having issues. You actually said you Gmail syncs immediately like it's supposed to, which lead me to believe that you were NOT having an issue. Generally people don't say their phone is behaving as it's meant to, if they're having problems with it.
I thought you were just offering a solution to a very old thread for some reason. I was just letting you know it was an old thread, and the OP, to whom you were offering a solution, had moved on.
Then when you said others were obviously still having issues, I questioned that, as it was not obvious to me. Especially since your post was about how your Gmail syncs immediately and Google Play updates without delay, and your phone is functioning as it's meant to (in your words). Maybe I should've understood you wanted it to function MORE like it's meant to?
Then you asked who the OP was, so I explained that.
And you wanted to know what his solution was, so I explained I didn't know, since he had moved on.
So it didn't bother me. I was merely conversing with whom I believed to be another civilized adult. Sorry I offended you, though.

Calendar app loses calendar info at least once every day

Sometimes when I go to the calendar it is blank. Going to the Calendar app settings for my Google account, my calendars aren't listed. If I go to the main settings>apps>Calendar Storage and delete the data, I can then get the calendar back by going to the app and selecting refresh.
Any ideas why this is happening to me, but not my wife's N7? When this first happened I thought it was because I was using the QuickCalendar app so I deleted it. No joy.
BTW, my Bionic doesn't lose the calendar data--just the N7 loses it.

ANYONE? surely someone here as seen or heard of issues with the calendar app on the N7. ANY info is appreciated--I even created a secondary Google account to see if the N7 would lose it's calendar also. It does--just as often as my primary, which is many times per day.

Wife has exact same problem with calendar. It actually does the same thing with the contacts, which come back even less often then the calendar. Google cal and exchange accounts.
She tried calling the support number and the guy was clueless.
Haven't seen this and I use my N7 every day for calendaring stuffems.

I fixed it myself. didn't get any help from google forum. the fix was to reset the device. I told some folks about that in other forums, and when they reset THEIR devices, they too, got joy from the Calendar app.

[Q] Problems syncing contacts and calendar from default Microsoft account

Hello,
When I first turn on my phone, I added my Microsoft account. Then it downloaded the contacts, calendar events and emails.
Later on I updated a contact and realized that it didn't sync to my phone. I tried doing it manually (keeping my finger on the account and taping Syncronize) but that didn't do it.
So I thought maybe something was wrong so I reset the phone to factory settings, add my Microsoft account and... ONLY 3 CONTACTS copied over. I wipe the phone a second time and I get the same result. Third try, all my contacts are back but still not syncing.
Then I see that the only checkbox available for syncing on my default account is email. So it doesn't seem to sync contacts and calendar (which is weird). So, to test it, I modify an even on my phone and wait. It was never copied over to outlook.com.
Why? Why can't I syng all three easily like it does on my Windows 8 computer?
Did this happen to any one else? What can I do about it?
Thanks
Haven't seen that happening before. Normalyl I would say that a hard reset should fix that problem but given that you already tried that it seems like a rather severe problem. Perhaps there is something wrong with your Outlook.com-Account. You might want to contact their support team?

I didn't think of that! I keep trying to debug the phone but yes it could be on the outlook.com side. I'll check that out. Thanks.
I did a test yesterday. I added a new even in my calendar and it did sync. But I modified a contact and that did not sync. Very strange...

[Q] Email not syncing (reproducible)

Coming from iPhone, I love the hardware. But, OS still seems to have some glitches. My biggest issue right not is email. My work email provides IMAP push IDLE, and never had problem with iPhone having email pushed immediately into my inbox.
Samsung or Android default email has been nothing but a headache. I've checked all the settings concerning sync include data usage > sync, etc, but the email will not sync. The funny thing is if I clear cash/data and reboot, reset the email account, PUSH will work for about 2-3 hours, then stops. It won't even pull by interval, and the only way to receive new email is to manually sync.
I've done it a number of times, and it always works for about a few hours, then simply stops. I've checked off peak schedule and any other settings that might interfere with push.
This is year 2013, and I cannot believe that a flagship android phone cannot push email consistently. This is true with my GMAIL as well. Is anyone else having the same issue? Doing a quick search, it seems like many people are having the same issue, and have given up. Having email pushed immediately is a very important feature for me, and I can't imagine android OS that's been around for many years hasn't figured this out. There seems to be no support from Samsungs's end.
If anyone can shed light, I'd really apprecaite it.
+1. I am using an LG G2 instead and all emails sync in real time with Push, no issues at all. However, on the N3 it just will not work, even after changing all the sync schedules and settings. If anyone know how to work around this, it would be awesome.

Actually, it seems push email support is just a rumor, and Samsung denies it.
What an embarrassment.
I don't get why is there a Push option if it doesn't work.. I thought it was a bug.
I've heard good things about K9 mail client from the Play Store and it has push functionality.

Not really helpful to your scenario, but I haven't had problems with push notifications using the baked in email client or with gmail.
Base email is tied via IMAP to an account on a webmail server I run.
Gmail is tied to my corporate google apps account.
Rooted on N900AUCUBMI1 baseband here.
Not that you should need a root to get this functionality, but maybe it would help?
Which baseband are you on? Maybe Push is broken in the newer build.
I've had trouble running stock on MI9, then rooted on MI1 and MI9. The type of email client doesn't seem to matter.
Odd. I am using Gmail for a few mail accounts and get quick delivery and all works fine. I have not tried the baked in email client on my Note 3, but I use it (with exchange) on my Note 2 without issue.
I guess instant mail delivery on my personal accounts isn't that critical to me but I can feel your pain.
If you are rooted, have you disabled any apps even remotely related to email?
If you are using gmail, do you have IMAP enabled within the Web client?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I am running everything stock. I haven't rooted it yet, but will eventually give it a go when the firmware matures a little.
I am able to get a quick delivery on GMAIL app. But, I think something is seriously broken with the stock email app. Most people will say that push is not a supported feature. But, it works for an hour or two, then it will stop working. Bigger issue is that it doesn't fetch emails reliably even with intervals set. The top status will say the last synced time, but the emails never arrive in my inbox until I load manually.
Given that Samsung cheated on the benchmarking score, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Samsung intentionally disabling push and pull feature. Just a guess. In fact, when I enable everything I used to run on iPhone (location service, bluetooth, wifi, google services, etc), N3 battery life falls pretty fast. I wonder if Samsung intentionally cropped polling for push to increase battery life.
Regardless, if push doesn't work property, this phone is not ready as a business tool. I spent the whole afternoon trying different combination, and I am about to give up. The only thing I haven't done is root, but I am not sure how that would affect the situation. I am also trying to find some sort of bug report page, but haven't found one.
This is a pretty major issue as my work requires immediate delivery of emails. I am keeping my fingers crossed until somebody crack this.
Spent the whole day resetting, deleting, adding account, playing with all sorts of sync settings, etc, and came to conclusion that the default email app is a horribly broken piece of junk. Keeping track of fetch interval and the stamp of the messages shows it cannot even pull the email on time from the server.
So I installed Evomail. What a difference! The app is beautifully designed, and has no problem pushing all my emails instantly. I am not sure if I am sold on the gesture thing as you can accidentally delete emails, but the icon has taken over the stock email on the bottom of the screen permanently for now. Wish Samsung would've done a better job on one of the email app.

[Q] What prevents syncing? Anyone else on 10.1 having sync isues?

I'm on a Nook HD+ 32GB and CM 10.1.3. Sync is simply not working. I don't mean calendar or contacts, I mean everything that uses sync. Or, to put it another way, every app/service that registers themselves under the "Accounts" section of the settings. So for example, Firefox sync, Evernote, Vine and, of course, all Google services (including Gmail).
The only things that are syncing correctly are the apps that use their own sync like Aquamail, Plume and Wunderlist. Those are all working fine.
The symptoms: When I, for example, press "sync now" in any of the Google accounts, the little sync circle appears next to the first sync item. It doesn't spin (not sure if this rom the circle is supposed to spin) and it just stays there, forever, till I reboot the tablet. I am getting no error messages.
What I have done: Ok, the initial sync works. When I first set up the account, it syncs. I have since factory reset and re-flashed 4 times trying to fix this. The initial sync works but then it never syncs again. If I remove and re-add accounts, it syncs fine the first time but then it doesn't sync again.
I have tried deleting all data from every sync enabled app. When I do that, it doesn't sync at all, not even once. Only time it syncs, that I have seen, is on the initial account setup.
Help: I need troubleshooting ideas and, better, all the things that might stop syncing from working. The mechanism itself seems to be working as it does an initial sync. Something seems to be stopping it from doing any more syncs though and I have no clue what or how the sync system works. What apps are involved in syncing? Is it Google Framework? Other things?
Thanks!!
Be sure that you don't prevent google apps to see your personal data. Go to Settings -> Security -> Privacy guard to check that

Appreciate the help! I don't use Privacy guard and no apps are enabled, but I do use Open PDroid. I tried deleting all rules for every system app in in Pdroid and then syncing but it still does not work.
Any other ideas? Thanks!
After not getting any traction on fixing this, I started trying the 10.2 nightlies. However, I am running into issues with that and would really rather be back on my 10.1.3 build. So a quick "bump" to this thread.
I am wondering if AFwall is somehow to blame here? Before I flashed 10.2 I uninstalled afwall and Pdroid to see if that would fix anything and it didn't. I have also removed the following items from the rom:
email, news and weather, notepad, exchange services, Google+ and picasa uploader. I should note I have removed email, exchange services, google+ and picasa uploader on my 2 Samsung phones (G4 and Note 2) and my Asus tablet (TF300) as well and not had any issues, but I though I would mention it.
I think those are the only things that make my build different from everyone else.
All right, hope this info helps someone. Instead of reading the new Dan Brown, which has been on my want to to list, I sat in a nipa cabana on Saturday, restored my 10.1 nandroid, and tracked this one down.
The culprit is the Xposed module Gravity Box. Once that was disabled and uninstalled sync worked again.
A couple of weeks ago I gave up on CM 10.1 and put on 10.2 to get past this problem. I didn't have time to do a full rebuild of my environment and only things that Titanium could Hypershell restore was put back. Xposed was one of the many things that was not installed. So I am not sure if this problem persists on 10.2 but at this point I am not going back to 10.2 now that I got this worked out.
Someone can tag this one closed/resolved and I hope this helps someone.

[Q] Email Sync Issues

I'm having an issue with email sync. In the email app, one of my email accounts will sync for a few days then just stop syncing. I don't notice it until it dawns on me that I haven't gotten new email in a while. It won't let me manually sync either. At the top, the last sync date will remain static showing a few days ago. I've deleted the account and then set it up again twice and that works for a few days, then it fails again. This is an old verizon.net account that I've never had issues with on any other device. Any thoughts?

With which email provider are you having trouble? Is it Verizon as well? (hoping that we can at least narrow down the problem...)
Thanks!
Also - Is everyone still using the stock email app, or are you having issues with another app too? I'm stock and am getting ready to try something different.

I run 4 separate email accounts (POP, IMAP, and Exchange, but not Verizon) and don't have any problems. The only thing I can think of that hasn't already been suggested is to clear the cache and/or data for the email app in the application manager. If this is an Exchange account clear the data/cache for the Exchange services app also.
I had an issue with the stock e-mail app not syncing properly with gmail. New e-mails would come in, but old ones that were read would not be marked as read. As such it had over 50 unread e-mails even though the gmail app or gmail website had 2 or 3.
I switched to K-9 Mail which works much better.

I think I'm going to have to end up running another email app as well.
That leads me to another quandary. K-9 won't do hotmail. Mailbox and Cloud Magic won't do anything but gmail and iCloud. I need to find something that can handle a hotmail (IMAP I think) account, a verizon POP3 account, and a Gmail account. Any thoughts?

Where I work, we have 5 Galaxy S5's and we have all experienced this issue. One of my users has it happen every Tuesday. This is only with the stock email app. Other apps seem fine, but that's ridiculous....it shouldn't be doing this.
