My phone is completely dead and wont answer to anything I do. I would be so thankful with some advice!
Last night my phone ran out of battery to 0 % and died normally, I charged it and tried to boot it, but all that happened then was
a loop of the Samsung logo and then the Cyanogenmod logo.
(I'm currently on CM10 rom) I tried to start it several times in both clockwork and normal but it didn't work.
I finally accepted my destiny of having to flash through odin and download mode, but that didn't work either!
Now I can't even get to download mode. I'm trying to charge through USB and normal charger but neither works,
no battery icon is coming up. However when I connect the phone via usb I can hear the "connected" sound on my computer!
Would appreciate help! My phone is black, quiet and dead
Perhaps your battery is just empty. There are some ROMs which can't handle charging while the phone is switched off (dunno why...). Have you tried using a JIG to get into DL mode? I'm pretty sure your i9000 is _not_ hard bricked.
Wow! I will try using a jig as soon as I get it (just ordered one for 3 pounds) Hopefully it will work!
I'm wondering... This works on this situation ??? >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330491

disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to install chargers
Tried using JIG, but doesn't work... The weird thing is that I get the "connected" sound from my computer when putting USB in, but phone is all dead no matter what i try to do.

try flashing rom back on phone using samfirmware.com
I can't flash anything! Nothing happens when I press power button / Power + Vol + Home, nothing happens when I connect charger either.
OK try and yes I know you said it isn't working but but hold the download mode buttons for 5 seconds then see if Odin detects it even if the screen does nothing

I think the last option is a JTAG - you may search for it on Google.

I've been reading forums all day long looking for answers but I can't seem to find a solution, so my apologies if someone has a solution in a thread that I missed but I couldn't find anything.
I have Rogers Captivate which I had applied the One Click Lag Fix that worked great. I then decided to flash a custom rom with Odin. In the middle of the flash, my pc lost power (battery ran out, forgot to plug it into the wall) and the bar on my Captivate showing the progress stopped. After I turned the computer back on, I turned off my phone (since it was stuck an I thought it was a good idea) and tried to turn it on with no success.
As far as I can tell, it's COMPLETELY dead.
Here's everything I've tried:
- ALL (and I mean ALL) button combinations
- There's no power bar, absolutely nothing showing
- I've taken sim and battery out and tried connecting to the pc, no luck
- I've tried letting it charge although the screen is dead (meaning black) and the soft keys don't light up so I have no idea if it's charging
- When I plug the phone into my pc, it doesn't even detect it
- Can't get ANYTHING to show up on the screen. I hold power, it doesn't turn on. I hold Vol up and down and nothing.
I don't know if there's anything on the board I can do to reset or something. Is my phone completely toast? If so, I'll have to resort to getting a replacement through the 1 year manufacturer's warranty which sucks, but oh well.
Thank you all for any assistance you can provide. I would hate to go back to my iPhone 4 ((

Did you try pulling battery, then holding Vol+ and Vol- and plugging in USB?
Have you tried a USB jig?
I had to disconnect my phone mid-Odin a few times before. I was able to use a JIG to get back into Download Mode and restore it to a working state. Might wanna try that!

I think this guy's phone really is toast though - no activity, nadda?
The only other thing I can think of - is make sure the USB cable is plugged directly into your computer's motherboard USB Ports.
Then try the above - pull out sime batt etc... plug in the USB with the battery out - then jam the battery back in while holding down the volume buttons.
If this doesn't work or the Jig.. Warranty Time with AT&T (Happy Times )
I would say the jig is worth a shot, I have seen several people say they came back from a black screen with the jig.
If you are just getting a black screen when you try to turn it on then the phone is most likely done. I know it's too late but it is extremely important that when flashing your phone that there is no chance of loosing power to your compuer.
I would still suggest to try the JIG option if you haven't already. Each bricked phone acts differently. My first phone I was able to get into download mode with the JIG but even after flashing it 3 times it still would be stuck on the AT&T logo loop. Likely because of a hardware related issue. I would check with your carrier and see what you options are after trying to use a JIG. Or you can call Samung and they might be able to repair the phone for a couple hundred. Which is still cheaper then paying $400 for a new one.
I had a similar issue where I got a purple screen flashin stock with odin...and then phone acted ''dead'' no response on any end...what I did was take take sim out and battery and did the volume down and power while putting in batter after every attempt with all other button attempts and putting usb in
About ten seconds the time it takes the art screen in my case to flash and after about fifty attempts it went into d.l mode

Mine got stuck in the white ATT logo loop once, and it just took many, many tries to get ODIN to recognize, but it eventually came around, and has been great ever since. If it is really bricked, you have nothing to lose, so you might as well go hardcore.
Same thing happen to me yesterday! And the jigg saved my phone. Thank you jigg

Hey, got some probs with my I9000...
Tried to restore to stock, while my cat jumps on the table... The Connection was lost, now the phone stucks on bootlogo. I cant get into downloadmode or recovery, just in upload.
Tried severel hints like vol+/- and put the akku back, vol- and home, JIG, etc.
But it seems that USB isnt working also.
When I connect to charger, it doesent charge.
It wont even turn on while connected USB.
Somebody had the same probs and can help?
I need my phone fast back working.
Thx for every tip.
have you tried to remove battery for 2 minutes?
Yeah, put it out of the phone for 5 min and something around 3 hours...
It's a real tricky brick... The only words I've got in my mind are "god damn"...
But thx already.
mmm... maybe you have corrupted bootloader... bring that to Samsung Service... it's only thing you can do now
you could try and get a device from ebay for £1.50 that will force it into download mode. "download jig"

That's the prob, I can't get in downloadmode and USB doesnt work either...
I have the same problem but worse
I have a similar problem with my Galaxy S. I was using Odin to unroot the system and put back on gingerbread. I was in download mode and it failed to downgrade so i turned the phone off by holding the power button for about 10 seconds.
Now my phone wont even get a bootloop. It wont respond to the charger or the usb. I've tried all the 3 button fixes. Even done a few things with odin and holding the 2 volume keys down whilst plugging in the usb but nothing has worked. It's not even trying to turn on. It's as if the battery isn't connected anymore even though it was full when it crashed.
It's really pissing me off now cause i need my phone for business.

Try to take out the battery for 2-3 minutes. than while the battery is out press the 3 buttons combination for download mode (Volume down, Home and Power), ask someone to insert the battery while you holding the 3 buttons and wait (while holding the buttons of course). It can take something like 5 minutes. It work for some I hope it will work for you to.
And yes Kill the damn cat
Hey guys
Youve got to try Unbrickable mod and heimdall one click, it's the only possible solution if you don't want to JTAG
my case is weird too ...my i9000 get stuck at boot logo , no recovery mode but I can get into download mode yet I have tried three laptops with xp and one with windows 7 all of them give unknown device error and not able to detect the phone hence can't use odin to flash ...tried all kind of drivers found online , same unknown device error...any ideas if this might work or any advice from anyone before I get home to try tonight ?

Ok so here goes my soft brick story.
First off I've been searching for about 4 days and cant get anything to work.
The captivate has a bad power button, I've tried opening it up, doing that QCD cleaner and nothing works. So anyways I got USB debug on and was able to get into DL mode with ADB and used Odin one click, but thats where the problem started. After about 2 hrs of waiting after the process started it just hung so I pulled the cable, and now Im in a soft brick(Phone---!----PC). I read of some people saying they can flash while in that screen but I cant get Odin or Heimdall to even recognize the phone while it is like this.
I've tried the most recommended way of pulling battery, connecting phone to USB and holding both volume buttons to get it into download mode but that doesnt work. As soon as I pop the battery into the phone the Phone---!---PC screen pops up, I tried with both volume buttons, just the bottom volume and just the top volume button but nothing works, as soon as the battery goes into the phone the Phone---!---PC screen pops up.
Only thing left to try is making a USB Jig but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before and was able to fix it without the jig. Im doing this for a friend and I dont want to have to wait for the JIG to ship to my house, and Im not confident enough in making my own considering I dont even have a spare mini USB cable(I have an HTC Amaze so the cable isnt the same) and the cable I'm using is someone elses so I cant tear it up to even try and make a jig.
Also I've tried three different USB ports on my laptop and another three on a different laptop but it still doesnt get recognized.
Sorry for the long ass rant. but this is just driving me insane, I'm about to just use this phone as batting practice if I cant get this to work.
Edit: oh yea this happened while trying the Odin one click to get it back to stock, no GB or anything of the sort, the phone was still Froyo, just a custom froyo rom.

First, please don't double post, because it clutters up the forum. You could have added a post to your original thread.
Second, with this type of problem, I didn't need a jig. First, take out the battery and put it back in (dont turn on!!). Next, plug the USB part of the data cable in the computer. Use one of the various combos to get into recovery mode, like hold both volume buttons, and power/lock button). It should show the recovery screen. Then plug the microUSB part into your phone and run one click recovery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989. This should solve your problem.
Please dont quote the OP when youre the first post...

are you putting the battery back in first? if so try leaving the battery out...I just tryed it on my spare captivate i took the battery out removed sim and sd card plugged the usb in and held all 3 buttons to simulate the power button sticking and then put the battery back in and it went right to download mode i hope this helps you.
Sorry about the duplicate threads, didnt realize that one had gone through since I got an error when I pressed post.
Anyway @nirajpant7 I cant pop the battery in the phone without it coming on by itself. Even if I dont press any buttons as soon as the battery goes in, the screen comes on with the phone--!--PC screen. Also my power button does not work so I cant really try all the button combos.
@SGA was trying to stay stock, phone was on a custom 2.2 rom so I wanted a stock 2.2 rom for the phone. Also does the cable matter that much? Hmm I dont think I have a way of getting a OEM Samsung cable.
@4-2ndtwin Yea thats what I heard but Odin, nor Kies, nor Heimdall recognize the phone while in that screen. Also on that thread you posted I've tried all the different ways more than once with no luck.
Anyway thanks for the fast replies guys I'll keep working on this and update with any new info...or a nice video of a flying captivate Lol
Just try another cable... even if it not OEM. In most cases where the PC does not match up the drivers its the cable. Even when I assigned the drivers manually to the device it would not work. It would always register as an unknown Google device. A new cable quickly sorted the problem out, and you can see that has been the main issue for anyone where Odin does not recognise. I am currently using a generic cable from the dollar store and it works, but the phones are picky. Sometimes they don't even like their own cables.
My cappy is recognised with cheap cable, my nexus s won't for the life of it identify with anything other than its own cable....
Its worth a shot...

It's OK
So here is what you do; you need a jig. It's a little device that plugs into your phone, and the phone will go into download mode. You can make one yourself or you can buy one on ebay. Another option is going on the Jig lending threads and borrowing one. So the jig will get you into download mode, which then you can flash your phone, and then it should work properly.
or you can make a jig
what exactly is a jig?

Technically, its a 301k resistor soldered to a microUSB port.
More practically, its a nifty little device that forces Download mode.

This is the explanation and how to use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIALLtbyaqU
"Me like many other people had a problem like, mobile and PC connection error or can't get to download mode whit three combo buttons (I think that it depends from your OS on mobile, because I also had that problem till I flashed new OS) or any other that you turn on your device and it freeze or stuck, but this homemade jig is a soliution for these things. Link to pictures http://babkes.webs.com/apps/photos/
What I did was:
1 - I bought micro USB cable
2 - I bought rezistor 300k OMH, 5%
3 - I cuted micro USB cable like you can see on video and connected rezistor to 5 and 4 pin. And that's all, you have download mode, but for that you need to have atleast few moments of device turning on.
Maybe it looks difficult, because it also looked the same for me, but it isn't. How I knew which pin is 4,5. I just tried all . And when you get correct ones in few moments you get download mode."

Actually it isn't, normally one turns the phone off, then uses 3-button combo. Battery is normally inserted all the time.
This is a little trick, to keep buttons while battery is removed and then to insert the battery while all 3 buttons are pressed. It inforces the download mode very often.
It works best, if just before that soft reset was done (keeping the power button pressed for at least 30sec while battery is removed)
Good to know these special tricks :good:

Hello,
Something happened with my Samsung Exhibit II phone after installing new ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2185107
First, the installation went OK and the phone booted in the new environment. But since Google Apps were missing I rebooted my phone again into recovery mode and installed Google Apps and also SwapSD. Then I selected "restart phone" and after that I cannot turn my phone on. It looks like it is dead. The battery was OK (charged in full). So, the phone does not react to pressing any buttons at all. Is it familiar situation? Is there anything to do?

Didn't help. I removed a battery for 10 minutes, put it back, pressed "Volume Up + power" and nothing happened.
I am wondering if it is possible that installing a wrong apps (like SwapSd or Gapps) could kill a phone?
Even when I plug the charger in the phone, I don't see that the phone is charging. Usually, the battery icon would appear with percentage of charge. Now, nothing is happening.

Try pressing the power button, hold it down while holding the volume down button. Hopefully that will get you into download mode so you can try ODIN to reflash your ROM and/or recovery. If you get nothing while trying to do that, than yeah, I'd say your device is toast.

No, brick yes but kill the phone no. Guess the hardware just gave you the old proverbial middle finger looks like. On the bright side you now have a reason to get something better.
