Attach a strap to the case to wear it around the neck? - Nexus 7 Accessories

My Nexus 7 case is one of those cases with a small pen holder and I was thinking if it could be possible to use that holder to attach a strap to it and thus wear the whole tablet around the neck when I'm out and about and need both hands free.
Anyone ever think of this or has done it successfully? I'm not sure that small pen holder will actually be strong enough for prolonged use, but maybe you guys have a better idea that doesn't involve another case?
Just thinking out loud here..

Definitely will!

are you doing it for the gimmick factor or do you really want to do it for practical reasons?
i'd suppose the n7 isn't so bad being it is 7", i have seen asian people with galaxy note on their neck

Get a nexus 7 case withsparkly diamonds, then wear it on your neck. Bling bling!

Practical reasons, of course. Yesterday at work I went outside to stretch my legs and I usually take the tablet with me when I do that. So when I was reading stuff, my boss asked me to help him carry some stuff. I needed both hands for that. Is that practical enough?

Put the Nexus 7 in your back pocket. Otherwise don't use it while at work.

Not very helpful. I could just throw it away if I didn't want to use it anymore and I wouldn't have this issue right now.
Also, my back pockets aren't that big (I'm not american).

Just get a shoulder bag for a 7 inch tablet/ netbook .. i have seen some very nice ones.. And i do have one for my 11.6 inch notebook.. VERY NICE Pink floral well made.. Got mine at Target of all places i believe... Or you could always carry it your purse.. I know my purse never leaves my shoulder..
ALSO Tell the Boss your on BREAK ...

Yeah, I was just thinking that if I already had a case maybe I could multi-purpose it Carrying a shoulder bag all the time just in case I need it isn't ideal

Just put it in your purse.
I wouldn't trust the little lanyard strap on a case to hold the weight of it bouncing around your neck. Some cases have a hand strap where you could reverse it on your back of your hand to hold something. Alternatively an arm band may be better suited.
What about a belt holster even?

I wouldn't even consider putting anything expensive in my back pockets (can't even say I ever used the back pocket of pants to store anything ).
Also I'm sure anyone can do whatever they want with their Nexus 7, after all, did you pay $200+ so the OP could have his Nexus 7? No? Then I think he can use it at work without your approval

I just thought that if I already had a case why wouldn't I be able to mod it and wear it around the neck or the shoulder like a small backpack/suitcase/whatever? Do you not get why this is so important?

I saw a Poetic case on Amazon with heavy armor and an integrated screen protector like the Otterboxes but it also had a removable caeabeaner that hooks to the back. It also has a stand that pops out of the back.
Sorry I don't have a link at the moment, but search for poetic nexus 7 on Amazon and it'll come up. I think they start shipping on the 15th.

First of all, I feel like I got ripped off, this case is nothing but annoying, the flappy door always get in the way even when its flipped around to the back,
you think they would atleast have put a magnet on the door so it has another purpose as a smart cover, I feel like they rushed it, and it's barely worth 10$, let alone 19.99$+Shipping. I would rather have a 10$ leather or tpu case from ebay.
I wanted to state my opinion and get the forums opinion, how do you feel about it?

Not trying to be, but when you spend almost 30$ on something that is worth 7.99$, and is nothing but a bother, yea, im a tad bit mad, but not too much, just got annoyed and decided to make a rage thread about the case.
Not saying its trash but certainly isn't worth the price (prob worth like $15 shipped? Maybe $10 and $15-20 if it had a sleep function)
i saw a video review of it on Youtube a couple weeks ago and it looked cheap. Reminded me of a TPU case with a flap.
I'd buy it off you for $15 shipped.
Overall I like it, EXCEPT for one really annoying flaw: The hinge is WAY too stiff and it keeps trying to close itself if you fold it behind the device.

Hm, make it 19$, and ill ship it to you, and thats me loosing like 8-9$ in a day.
I'm surprised anyone bought it. The first time I looked at the Nexus 7 I quickly looked for accessories for it on the Google Play website, looked at the cover ... said NO, looked at the extra power adapter, said NO for the second time.
Everyone knows there would be a flood of covers and other things for the device in a short while.
It's a pos ripoff. Much better out there at half the price.

Maybe I should put some Elmers glue on mine, and sprinkle some glitter on it, or put some crazy eyes on it.
In hindsight (being what it is), Asus admitted that more of these sold than expected. The price reflects a premium on brand, and it was very plain what these were going to be like from the pictures. They looked like basic silicone with no added features, and they are. Asus said nothing about the sleep feature of the Nexus 7. There was no reason to believe that their cover would take advantage of it.
Had I bought one of these, I also would feel ripped off. Not by Asus or Google, but by my inability to hang on to my $20 based on the facts at hand.

Actually I kind of liked how it looked from the pictures - what the pictures don't show is how badly it handles trying to put the flap behind the device.

The look is nice, but what you bring up is what I immediately thought when I saw it for the first time. There's nothing to hold the cover back and it's not hinged in any way. Asus even had pictures of it splayed out on a flat surface. A video would have made it apparent for sure, and like I say... I could have been wrong at the time. I simply put my bet on the other color.
Did you watch the numerous video reviews on this forum that said the cover sucked balls before you bought it?

Small backpack?

Im looking for a small backpack for when I want to travel ultra light and just have my nexus 7, plus a few other bits and pieces.
I already have a 13" laptop backpack.. the only things I can seem to find online that are small in size are messenger style bags... as I do a lot of cycling to get about, I prefer backpacks though as messenger bags tend to swing about a bit whilst cycling.
Any links would be much appreciated!

No mention of cost so I will recommend chrome bags. I have 3 different styles that I use and they are well known for making bags that work well for bike couriers.
I use my most recent bag from them, victor, just as you describe. It is just big enough for my nexus, a few cables, a usb thumb drive and a wifi hotspot. The main pocket secures with wide strips of good, strong, durable velcro. I have no problem trusting it.
However, if you need something a little more versatile and secure, I would suggest getting a mini-metro. I have one of these as well and use it for anything and everything when I need a little more space than the victor. It is probably the best of the three that I have for cycling due to an extra strap that goes under the arm to keep the bag from moving. This one is a bit bigger than what you need but doesnt really seem big unless you stuff it.
I have the classic messenger also, but it is less secure/ loose so I would not recommend it for use as you have described unless you are just carrying stuff a short distance. This one is not as ideal for cycling.
Here are a few pics of the victor with the stuff I carry in it:

Check out the Camelbak Mule or Lobo. (sorry, they won't allow me to post a link) I have the mule and it works great. If you don't need the water reservoir you can use that pocket for your nexus 7, it is padded and fits in nicely. That leaves the main compartment for other things and the small pocket for keys, wallet, etc.

I did read it, but I'm still going to recommend a messenger... The timbuk2 ipad mssenger is really good, and the strap tightens up so that it doesn't swing and actually sites really nicely on your back. The cushioned pouch is way big for the N7, and there's also a decent sized main compartment. On top you get a passport pocket, card holders, and a zip compartment with more slips inside it. Yet it's really small! I am amazed at how much I carry with this thing. IT's become my work bag, holiday bag, and festival bag all in one. I got it from Dell for £50 in the UK.
I know it's supposed to be backpack related, but I don't think that you'll have an issue with swing on this one, and it really is amazing quality for the money.
Having read this thread though, I really want the Chrome Victor too. Looks awesome.
I use a Kifaru E&E for the purpose you mention. It is more like a pouch with straps. Light and very well built.

Ok, so I've checked them all out.
The Belkin slim too big for my purposes... I already have the incase which is great, but Im now looking for something smaller. Ive shortlsted the following (btw, I didnt realise there was such a thing as a 'slingback' until today, these also seem to fit the purpose as the sit on the back) :-
Chrome Victor
Timbuk 2 catapult sling
Camelbak mini-mule or lobo
Eddie bauer slingpack
So these should give an idea of what I'm after if anybody else has anything else to suggest.... thanks in advance!
Are you in the US or Canada?
Take a look at daypacks for rock climbing - the smallest ones are usually big enough for a pair of climbing shoes, a water bottle, a chalk bag and a couple of snacks. You won't carry any of those, really, but the point is they're small packs.
In Canada, MECs got a few choices: http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Packs...newSortType=price&newSortOrder=ascending#list (sort by price, lowest to highest). The Blitz Crag Daypack is only 7.5L (450 cu. in).
You can probably find something similar in the States at REI or EMS.
Why not try looking for net book accessories. They're pretty small and will probably do the trick.
This one is leather so it might not be exactly what you're looking for.
Amazon
How about a street pack from Dakine? They're small, well made, and usually come with a lifetime warranty. I'm thinking the 13L would be a good bet. It's cheap too!

Looking for case

I have a case with a weird issue. Its grabbing my nexus 7 so tight that its squeezing the power button internally or something so screen goes off immediately after unlocking. It doesn't happen at all without case on. Gonna return it to amazon and grab a new one since I've been super clumsy lately and don't want to break my new toy. Any suggestions? Edit screen turning on and off appears to have something to do with light any ideas what it might be?

What kind of case is it? Many cases have a magnet in the lid, that should shut down the screen when the lid is put over the screen.
Some cheap cases also seem to have a bit too powerful magnet, so even if the lid is turned behind the screen, nexus 7 still detects it and shuts down the screen.
Does your case have a magnet?

Sorry, I didn't see this at first.
The Nexus 7 has a wake/sleep sensor, which is activated by the presence/absence of a magnet. As noted in the last post, if your case is compatible with the sensor, then when you open the case's cover, the N7 wakes up. When you close the cover, it will go to sleep.
(I wish I would go to sleep that easily!)

ah weird thought it had something to do with the lighting. then why was i able to duplicate the result by moving the camera around the ceiling fan light bulb? couldn't do it without the case on though so that has to be part of the cause. anyway i can't see a magnet but doesn't mean it's not embedded in there. this is the case by the way http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Slim-fit...=1356622879&sr=8-1&keywords=moko+nexus+7+case
Alot of those cheaper cases use magnets that are too strong and flipping the lid over turns off the screen from the back. I owned a Blurex case just like that one and I liked it alot actually. Because of the design, I can't imagine it has anything to do with the power button.
Play with the lid, as I suspect that is your problem. You may be able to put a piece of tin-foil behind the N7 so the magnet's effect is tainted from behind. That or pick up a new case. I really liked that style of case as it felt very protected. I eventually moved to the Poetic slim case (iPad style) but the quality was disturbing. After a few weeks the plastic started to buckle and tear.
I ended up with a Portenzo Book Case that I like very much. It has a great feel to it, doesn't add bulk, and looks very nice. Overall it is holding up very well. The tablet is held in by 2 3M sticky pads. The top, bottom, and button-sides are exposed. The magnets were adjusted during initial releases and working perfectly.

Quick look at the Orange Flip Case

Samsung was giving out Flip Cases for the Galaxy Note II and the SIII at CES 2013 show in Las Vegas. I decided to go orange. Didn't think I would like the orange color after getting it, as the day went by I really like the orange color. Here is a quick video of the flip case.

So sad watching the video and seeing the crack on the screen. Such a bummer.

:crying: Yes, first week of having the G'Note II it slipped out of my hand and landed on the corner and weird part was it didn't crack on the spot. The corner was scratched up and later I went to use the phone and the crack showed up. More likely it put pressure on the corner and cracked afterwards. I'm going to replace the whole screen and LCD, but will wait for the price to come down from $300.00 for the parts.
The orange color reminds me of the Dodge Charger car.

Hey guys.
For those of us who prefer the OEM flip case but want some drop protection, consider buying a cheap lariat and feeding it through the speaker hole on the back. Wear the lariat around your wrist when using the phone and if you drop it the phone never hits the ground.
The lariat also helps you to pull it our of your pocket if you are wearing tighter jeans.

I have the orange as well. I got it for 50% for registering my phone via Facebook. The orange is very odd. It's almost peach in bright lights. I find that the flip cover gets in the way most of the time. It is nice though. If you use a car mount.... get ready to hate the cover.

I wouldn't recommend you keep it on like that, I did that for awhile and eventually the piece started to bend. Instead feed it through the hole and tape the lanyard to the inside of the back cover, You won't see the tape when the cover is closed . Don't put too much though or the cover won't close. It's kept my phone from hitting the ground thus far. This was the lanyard I used http://www.ebay.com/itm/4X-NEW-T-MO...368729?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item336ab1ca99

"Otterbox Commuter" Mod with a Kickstand

Otterbox offers some of the best protection cases for devices. It rarely incorporates kickstands as part of the main casing. This shows you how I managed to splice in a thin kickstand from another casing. This saves you from carrying those stands so you can watch videos hands-free.
The "Otherbox Commuter" case you see here is an exact $5 replica done by a company called Swisstech in one of their kiosk stores here in Metro Manila. The original Otterbox Commuter cost $70 retail here.

The TPU case with the kick stand actually cost more at about $9!
You can exact the process with the original Commuter case if you want to do this.
This will give you peace of mind for accidental drops but giving you that kickstand function but still as thin.
Here's the video link of the finished case:

That's a lot of work for a single position kickstand. I just attached this kickstand to my case and I love it:

Nah, the point of the project was to really put the stand inside and not be just anything that I put on to the surface of the case. The 3 hours I put into this paid of so that it can still fit into my book hiding place for the Note II.

It must suck to live somewhere where you have to do so much to not get robbed.

I've been to the Philippines twice and love it. It's not that it's so dangerous that you will get robbed blindly down the street, it's that items of value are less common, so you could get swiped in the most inopportune times. In the US or other locations, it's more common to see expensive gadgets. There is a lot of poverty in the Philippines and in regions of the world like that, it's very common.
It doesn't suck because you grow up knowing that's the way things are there.
ANYWAY, back on topic. Is there any way to get a Swiss-Tech case online? Was looking and it seems there is no way to get them. I like the price and the difference in look from the "Otterbox".
I'm all for making mods where necessary, but a similar case with a stand already built in seems easier.
This one is $7. My wife and I have them in different colors. They're great.

There's none, as I mentioned. There are even different color variants of the silicone part of this like pink, blue, red, yellow and white.

Nice but it doesn't ship to my country and it would take almost 2 months to arrive if it does!

Ya shipping cost sucks however I was able to get 3 for $13 including shipping with a coupon.
yeah, 4-5 bucks delivered isn't bad, but anything more is silly
Id just go for a otterbox defender case. Super tough case plus the clip on the holsters locks open if you want to become a stand.. on the down side this case does make it a bit bulky but still protects it extremely well. .

Yes, there are reasons why is choose the Commuter over the Defender. One thing is the difficulty of changing the battery and taking out the micro SD card. I'd not be using that holster that much either. Where would I store that? I'm trying hard to conceal the Note, not actually show it off on my waist.

Not saying you wanna show it off. I only use it because I work on construct ion sites and it offers superior protection ......

I can understand needing the Defender in a construction site. I'm an architect.
The reason for me is to conceal the Note II:
